View Full Version : faye's hair

Oh boy. I need some help. I'm doing Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop, and the only problem I have with the costume is her hair! I ordered a wig that I thought would be perfect, but when it arrived . . . It didn't match the description at all. It looks really awful on, too. :hafha: So what do I do now?

1. Try to find another wig, somehow. (I've scoured the net and had no luck finding a wig in black or dark purple, center part, no bangs, between chin and shoulder length.)
2. Use 1-wash dye. I'm worried it's gonna run all over and look bad.
3. Hunker down and use a semi-permanent dye, leaving me with black hair for a couple of months.
4. Give it up and go au naturalle; I have shoulder length light brown hair.

Or I can hunt down other Faye cosplayers and bug them until they tell me where they bought their wig. Any insights?

that sucks! Where did you order it from, out of curiousity? I'm planning a faye for later this year and I've got to order a wig soon, too ><;
The places I've been looking at for them is http://wowwigs.com/ ... their pictures of dark purple look pretty good. And I *think* I found one I liked at http://www.fifi-mahony.com/ ... it's been a while since I was looking, so I can't really remember.
If it were me I'd end up going with my regular hair if I couldn't find a wig... but then I've got a hairdresser who has threatened my life if I ever colour my hair for a costume :D
good luck with it!!

i've learned with such needed wigs its better to settle with buying one thats too long and cutting it yourself OR have someone with cutting skills cut it for you.
My Ritsuko and android 18 wigs both had to be cut, its not too bad, just make sure to have a real sharp scissor and a water spray bottle to help get the wig flat and straight as possible before cutting. its also good to have a head stand for it or a volunteer to wear it as you or whoever cuts. ^^
bangless center parted long wigs seem to be the easiest to find. good luck ^^

I know a girl who cosplayed as Faye. I'll e-mail/IM her when I get a chance.

Kell - I'll make sure to let you know how I solve the problem. ^^ The problem with Wow Wigs is, the one they have that would work and come in dark purple is the Secret wig, and that one's asymetrical. The evil wig came from a place called Great Wigs, it's in the UK.

I found a short wig that would work - no pics of the purple though. https://secure.wavi.com/angelswigs/cgi-bin/shopper?key=FA4013&preadd=action Plus I don't want to get burned with another online dealer, I may just go trekking to places in the city. (In Chicago, EVERYWHERE is a trek.) If they don't have short ones, I'll get a long one and cut it, good idea Jibrille. I'm tempted to get a black wig, so I could use it for Yoh (Shaman King) in future . . . but that would be inaccurate I guess. :P (<-- perfectionist)

Ranma, if you do get a chance, that would be super helpful, thanks. ^^

I'd go with the getting a long wig cut. However, I'd get it done by an actual hairstylist, 1. because I have no faith in my cutting skills, and 2. they could probably style it for you too! I've never seen a costume where someone actually got Faye's hair down pat, since it's got that crazy sort of shape. Make sure to take some pictures when you go, so your stylist knows exactly what you want.

If you semi-perm dye your hair, it will be black, not for a couple months, but until it grows out. I know it says 'semi' permanent, but reds and blacks never fully wash out. And even if they do, your hair will look pretty yucky until then.

Yeah I think that's the best bet, I have a hairstylist I go to I've already had to explain the whole cosplay thing to so she'd probably do it. I'd really like to have Faye's hair just right! After all I'm going to be walking around in some seriously low-cut (just tried them on) stretch PVC hot pants, why stop there? OO;;; lol

I used a level two auburn dye, it just faded out over time, no visible roots. But I'm scared of the whole dye idea anyway, heard a number of horror stories about it.

Thanks everyone ^^ (currently hand-sewing plushie feet . . . my sewing machine broke AGAIN while I was finishing Faye's shirt . . . :P )
