Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew about the categories or labels for specific types of Japanese street fashion. Certain Styles have been popping up over at the fashion district in Japan, and I would love to get a complete list of what's new and old. If you have anything new to add, pictures and/or descriptions would be lovely.

If you're curious about a certain type of street fashion I have listed upon here I can also try to find pictures if you like. Or visa-versa, I might be able to find the type of style of your picture.

Cosplay (does this count?)
Cult Party Kei
Dolly Kei
Fairy Kei
Kimono Hime
Mori Girl
Natural Kei
Obakawa/Ojikawa
Onee-Kei
Onii-Kei

I wouldn't say cosplay counts as fashion. Since it's a costume, really.

Also, I'm just going to say that I absolutely love dolly kei. I need to work it into my wardrobe.

I've been looking for a certain style somewhere along the lines of vintage/nerdy/school look that I've been seeing in magazines and I've finally found it! (just maybe) I've heard that it's also along the lines of retro gyaru, or study kei.

Obakawa/Ojikawa Style
(which could translate into grandma cute/grandpa cute)

Ooh that's cute! That outfit with the blue skirt, I'd totally wear that to class. And the one on the end next to her. I love berets and cardigans and knee socks.

Love it! I just got some boots and a scarf that I think would really work for dolly kei. If I get a proper skirt, I might try a look of my own.

That's wonderful! ;A; I find it pretty hard to find some nice looking affordable vintage items for dolly kei. Second Hand shops help, but it's still hard to find things that have a Grimm's fairytale feel.

My friend recently introduced me to a type of fashion called Kimono Hime.
It deals with using a traditional kimono and dressing it up parts with lace and layering with non-traditional items.
They tend to look like these:

The items themselves? Well there are japanese-specific stores that sell some of these items. But for the most part it's just taking clothing and coordinating it into specific styles.

For mori girl there is this website called "One-Piece Shop (http://favoriteone.jp/)"

And for dolly kei the shop called "Grimoire (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:GDPWyPB3lDcJ:tokyofashion.com/grimoire-shibuya-japanese-dolly-kei-vintage-fashion-wonderland/+dolly+kei+grimoire&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a)" is most famous for its selection of vintage items that fit the style.

Your best bet is looking through fashion specific magazines because they'll usually have the stores listed on there.

Here are some Natural Kei Photos from this website:
http://xmossgardenx.blogspot.com/p/what-is-natural-kei-fashion.html

Natural Kei is pretty much "think prairie-revival style"
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k175/marthe2582/blog/comparison.jpg

And I've just recently heard of Cult Party Kei
TBH I'm not too sure what this style is. . . . I've heard it's a lot like dolly kei, only less patterns more solids, and sometimes featuring gingham prints?

Onee-Kei or Onee Gal
which is a fairly older mature look that is sort of derived from the gyaruu fashion.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lrykgknQQw1qfr6dxo1_500.jpg

the guy version would be called
Onii-Kei
http://files.myopera.com/kimheejin/blog/5bzrkl2.jpg

There happens to be more male fashion style names at this source:
http://www.jmode.com/fashion/trend5.htm
but there are no photos.

Explains:
Mode-kei or High fashion kei
Urahara-kei (Street)
Salon-Boy
Kireime
Extreme (aka street)

Cult Party Kei is like a purely light colors and pastel version of dolly kei, which branches into dark colors and light colors. They aim for a more sweet, innocent look, with less ethnic influences.
This post (http://miradell.blogspot.com/2011/05/about-cult-party-kei.html) has some good information on the style and how it differs from dolly kei.

Haha the name "cult party" makes me think otherwise. You would think "dolly" is the more innocent look, given the name.

I really like the outfits in this photo of Cult Party Kei

Loving ths thread <3

I totally love Fairy Kei and try to mix it up with Decora and Sweet Lolita ^^

My favorite fashion isnt on here! It's Gyaruo and I really love Host or Hostu style as well.
Though hostu style looks like a light version of visual kei(to me anyways) but I guess that's why I like it. ^_^ Kodona is another one of my favorite styles aswell. And visual kei will always have a special place in my heart even if I don't dress in that style anymore. ^^

@KiraCosplayHai: Thank you! :D I've been trying to collect pieces of clothing that would adhere to the different types of japanese fashion as well~ I find it fun to be able to coordinate clothing to look like all the different styles.

@Kaoru133: XD Yes Gyaruo is basically the male verson of Gyaruu and I completely forgot to put that up (me being a girl focusing mostly on female fashion afterall ^^;; ) I'll try to look out for more styles geared towards guys in the future~ Unfortunately I categorize Kodona under Lolita as well as Aristocrat so I won't be posting a lot of styles related to that, and a lot of those photos or questions could be found in the EGL forums. Personally I don't want to list the complete and possible styles for lolita since there are so many x.x

But since I just found a photo that can easily fit into Kodona I will post it up:

Hi...! really i love this mind blowing outfits in this pic......& could you help to know me how can i get chance to watch these outfits live....!

I'm sorry, I'm not exactly sure where to get those outfits. People who are into this type of fashion usually just take vintage dresses and layer them in an appropriate way. I suggest going to second hand shops if you live outside of japan. But I'm sure there are some japanese stores that sell similar dresses.

These came from Syrup's 2011 Winter Magazine and I thought they look simply adorable.
As for the name....I'm guessing they're like subsections of the style Mori Girl. To be honest I don't really have a name for it.

These are cute! I personally love Decora fashions. (6%DokiDoki...if I ever go to Japan, I'm never leaving that store.) I also like Fairy Kei. So, basically, I like the light-sweet-looking outfits, with alot of color~

I, too, like going around to second hand shops and picking up a few items that could go with some of these styles. I really like vintage stuff, but, unfortunately, I can never seem to find any.

Creating cute outfits is what I love doing the most. I love putting odds and ends together to form a pretty rainbow of colors~~ (I would so kill for a pair of Doc Martens. I love those shoes. <3~)

I was reading some academic article for an essay I was writing on Lolita fashion and one of the authors tried to classify "cosupure" as Japanese street fashion. I think he may have been mistaken only because he was listing all the different types of fashions that get worn around Harajuku on any given Sunday and either there are cosplayers running around or he thought something they were wearing was from a manga.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of mori girls. I love vintage, lace, woolen sweaters, and sheers. I love the bohemian look it gives and I love how it combines earth tones, hippie aesthetics, 20s flair, and that little bit of Japanese quirk. It's all so cute! Best of all, I actually have a hope of building a mori wardrobe without breaking the bank. Local vintage and thrift stores supply me with everything I need and anything else I want, I can make myself.

I got a Tumblr where I reblog a lot of Japanese street fashion photos I find (among other great finds).
ZTKuko's Randoms (http://ztkuko.tumblr.com/)
And here's a Tumblr that posts lots of dolly kei photos:
Dolly Kei (http://dolly-kei.tumblr.com/)
Street Snap Fashion (http://streetsnapfashion.tumblr.com/) is another good one (warning, plays music).

Oh wow, what a handy thread. It's nice to see Kimono-hime listed here. I am going to attempt a kimono-hime style outfit in May.
