The dressmaker (I couldn't make clothes if my life depended on it.) whose helping me make the dress for my Deedlit costume needs my measurements. She lives in Washington so there is no possible way for her to measure me. She told me to go to a local shop and get sized with all the undergarments I would be wearing so the dress would fit right. Scary I don't think I have enough guts to do that.

Hmm how far does the average male crossplayer go with their costumes? Should I really go the extreme and get the bra/chest and wear it while some strange person measures me so I can pull off looking as feminine as possible? The dressmaker says if I didn't do at least that I would just look like a boy in a dress and it wouldn't be convincing at all. Does anyone have tips?

Go check any sewing book at a local library. It will show you exactly what and how to measure. Singer books are good for that.

Measures usually are more accurate if somebody else takes them.

Best of luck

Here's the thing: if you want to wear falsies or any other kind of shaping or padding when you wear your costume, then yes, you must wear them to have your measurements taken, or else the seamstress will be working to the wrong measurements and the outfit will not fit. If you aren't comfortable with having someone else do it, then find out which measurements the seamstress wants (which ones she needs will depend on the kind of garment she's making) and have someone you are comfortable with measure you instead.

Don't be nervous. First off, you're going to need a properly fitted bra. Just go to a Victoria's Secret and ask for help. Or a Frederick's of Hollywood (their water bras are good!). I'd suggest the Frederick's actually... they deal with a lot of different types.
They'll measure you and everything, no prob. If you're nervous, tell them it's for a costume and take a picture. You're also going to need to decide on cup size, etc. Would be a good idea to buy two bras, even. Then choose whichever stuffing method you like from the thread on falsies. Then call up a few local seamstresses and ask if they'll measure you for a costume. Tell them everything, and that way you won't run into problems at the shop. They'll probably charge a little for measuring, but no big deal. I'd recommend wearing a tight-fitting (but not compressing) top over the bra if you're nervous. Tight fitting shorts would be a good idea too. That way you're not just in your undies.
And when you pick the bra... don't just go for the largest cup size you can find... get something that suits your body type, k? ^^;;

I think a pair of bundled socks will do the trick. I guess I could get one of my non-supporting friends to help. lol

Don't use socks! Birdseed seems to work pretty well. But socks get the wrong shape... it don't work. Trust me on that. ~_^

Actually as surprising as it sounds my Evil Step Mother has some silicon breasts. She used to use them to make her breasts look bigger. I could use those lol They feel and look just like the real thing too!

...okay this is getting a little wierd don't you think?

Also my good friend Sean who has begun to support my idea's and knows how obsessed with Deedlit I am, plans to help measure myself. I figure it would be a little easier than going to some strange dress place and having strangers do it. As long as I follow the guide my dress maker shipped me, I should be okay right?

well i went to wal mart and bought one of those medium sized soft foam ball from the toys section in the big bins that hold all sorts of sized balls. then i just cut it in half.. it creates about a size C.. then measure just below your chest and take the measurement and go to the bra section and find that size in a b or c cup,
like my lower chest is a 32.. so i'm a 32 C,
a more advantced route, if you need cleaveage is to get a size or 2 smaller and in an A cup make sure it has padding, slit the padded part open and padd it titghtly till it forms a sorta round pillow that does squich much. then put that on.. this will press your chest down and you can push your skin and fatty tissue towards the center and the padding holds it in place. then on top of this put on a second bra in the large cup size. this creates a full bust with natural cleavage that bounces.

and as to measurements.. i have never had to go anywhere and get measured with my female garments and have never had to get a bra fitted. unless your tits are real a 34 B or a 32 C isn't going to make a big difference, you just adjust the padding and hook the bra tighter.

if you feel more confortable have a friend take your measurements.
.. i myself wouldn't feel like running around in a padded bra and padding and underwear in front of strangers...
my site has a chart you can look at to figure what measurements you need:

hope this helps.
