Has anyone ever attempted this costume? After attending my forst con last Saturday, I've decided to try and attempt another costume for my next one in March. Gambit was always my favourite member of the X-Men so I decided to go for him, providing it won't be too hard. Does anyone know is anyone has attemped this before or has and hints or advice? Thanks for any help, Leigh.

Heres a link to a pic of the outfit I plan to attempt.

I'ze seen an Evolution-style. I'm sure that X-Men style has been done, though. Check out sites on comic cons.

I love his. Try contacting him :)
PS. I love Remy, can't wait to see pics when you finish :)

I already made his top, it was for a stuntgroup. (I don't have any pics of it:() I still have to make his trousers and look for a coat.

Im planning to do it as soon as I get rid of the extra padding on me midsection. Somewhat personalized though probably. As Ill have to take some liberties. . . comics usually dont translate to costume especially well.

Ok, thanks for your help guys. As I said I plan on completing this in time for my next Con so I have loads of time. I'm gonna start looking into the Spandex body suit now. Thanks again!

Well, I recieved a "contact" to e-mail about the spandex body suit. Heres what I mailed...

Dear Sarah.
I am interested in making a costume to which the main body would be made of spandex. A friend of mine and customer of yours (Michelle Powell) recomended that I look at your site. I am very impressed with the high quality of your work, and would like to ask if it would be possible to have a quote. I have attatched a picture of the costume to this e-mail, the part I would need is the main bodysuit underneath the coat. I would also like to ask if you would be able to make the headpiece as part of the suit and also add the detail which can be seen on the picture? (the red squares running down the legs and the coloured bands at the waist and neckline)

Thankyou for your help and I look forward to hearing from you,

Leigh Hardman.

and here's what I got back...

Two things right off the bat catch my attention as possible problems with this suit. The firs tone is the color scheme. In Metallic (like Michelle's Psylocke costume) we can only get one shade of blue. I've checked with several different suppliers and they all have the same colors of metallic (I think they share a manufacturer!) and it includes only one shade of each color. However, I also did a Google search for Gambit pics and found that several of them use *silver* instead of the lighter blue for the legs and the bands at waist and chest/neck. We could do it that way.

The second problem that may be encountered is the style of hood. Spandex is such that the actual *shape* of the hood may only be possible if we "outline" the openings with a non-stretchy fabric. I would definitely need custom measurements from you for the head, even if you went with a standard size. Question: do you plan to use your own hair (or the hair of whomever is in the costume!) or did you plan on adding a wig at the top of the hood? The reason is that I need to know about the top of the hood - if it needs to be open for hair to "escape" or if a closed top is wanted to add the wig on top. There are design issues at stake.

All in all, I *believe* that we can do this for you. The multiple applique's on the side (the squares), the custom hood and the custom logo/design for the body are the additional costs in making this costume. I can estimate that this costume (assuming the above color scheme and hood designs can be done) would run a total of approximately $250.00 for a custom sized and designed full outfit. (minus the wig/hair)

Let me know if you are interested in these options and I will get you a full quote.

I don't know the current exchange rate into British Pounds but that looks expensive!

YEah bro not sure if this hepls but if your looking for Gambit style contacts go log onto 9mmsfx.com and they have a wicked pair of contacts that are exactly like Gambits eyes. There red pupuls with a black sclera...they kick ass but really pricey..

12-26-2003, 09:14 PM
250 is no small amount of money, but custom costumes aren't cheap. By my memory of conversion rates, it's in the neighborhood of 120 pounds. But it's been a few years since I went to London.

12-31-2003, 08:30 PM
I'd say that's an awesome rate for a custome costume, my friend. Gambit is also a fave character of mine, though I've lost track of him (and Rogue) over the years.

Anyhow, a good conversion site to go to is http://xe.com/

200 bucks is about 112 pounds, so says the site.

And those contacts that Cherry has...are godly. Wow.

Thank you to everyone who replyed about my Gambit costume. <3. You guys are so sweet. The old-school version was a good starter. My next one is made of black vinyl. That's all I can give away, but it's going to be -awesome-. I promise!

How many Gambits can honestly say they went to New Orleans to get pictures? XD

Yay! My coat has FINALLY arrived!!!! :D Now all I need is to wait for my bodysuit to arrive!!! I can't wait! Heres a link to one of my pics. (you can get to the other one through that link too ;)) Let me know what you think! (bearing in mind, thats just the coat! :P)

02-07-2004, 09:13 AM
yay for gambit cosplayers! its always been a costume that I've wanted to do. The coat looks cool, and it sounds like it was a good deal with the custom body suit. Did you end up ordering the contacts?

good luck!

02-07-2004, 04:17 PM
^_^ Indeed. Custom body suits are a pain. I', doing a full rubber-type body suit in all black with a new dark brown coat pretty soon. Contacts included, a'course, mon ami.

I can't waaaait. REAL LEATHER BODY SUIT. ^_^!!! -- Though I shall pay with my life for it, dieing in the heat of comic-con. Meh. I suffer for my art! ::Dramatic hand to the head::

As I've already said, love the coat. I think personally I'd be driven nuts by the length not being to the ankles, but the collar on it is hella nice!

02-07-2004, 04:18 PM
._. Ooh. I just realized my collar looks the exact same if I stand it up. In future pictures, I'll have to do that! Good idea.

Thanks guys! I'm realy happy with the coat, and yes, it was quite a bargain and so was the custom suit realy. I didnt order the contacts because the price of my costume is a little high already! I would love to have them though, maybee in the future! ;)

02-08-2004, 10:50 AM
cool, definetly update when you get your body suit in and have the combination of the coat too. Are you goign to make a staff, or just stick to the cards?

Leigh Croft
02-11-2004, 03:11 AM
Ok!!! The suit arrived about an hour ago!!!!!!! YAY! I'm so happy!! I love it! There was a slight colour problem but im not too bothered, on the reference pic I used, the black is a purpley colour, so thats what i got! :p I'm not too bothered though, I still LOVE it!!! Here is the link to the finished pic, and as you can see, im just gonna stick with the cards for now! :D Hopw you like it!!

You might be able to, uh, downsize your... Assets by wearing a dance belt.
Male ballerinas/gymnasts/etc use them all the time and it may help you avoid some embarassment... http://www.dancedistributors.com/index.cfm?act=prod_category&cat=78&ven=0

Ah, can't wait till I get around to my Gambit costume. At the moment, I am working on Sephiroth from Advent Children. *nod*

The contacts.. o.o Where did you get 'em? (I noticed they were $300.. somewhere)

- Xidius

check "Gamet" 290$ and visit your eye doctor (forgot the fancy name) to see if you can actually wear em

02-18-2004, 12:14 AM
Also you need to know that they are extremley painful, and not everyone can wear them, or get them into their eyes. It's dangerous as well if you do not have a very presise eye appointment... :)

I have a major X-Men Suprise coming soon. ^_^ MARVEL is involved. The actual company. Let us just say that Cherry and Public Relations and Licenceing of Marvel have been talking a lot lately.

Mwaha. My new Gambit costume will be done soon! I Will post pictures here. It's full black rubber. ;d I loves it.

Good Job, Crofto. Love the coat. <3.

02-18-2004, 12:17 AM
Lol. You live in London, or I would offer to maybe take pictures with you!

Leigh Croft
02-18-2004, 04:49 AM
Well I live in Manchester but the Con is in London. Thanks for posting about making my "assets" a little more discreet, thats one thing which has been worrying me! It's all anyone seems to notice! :S I'll check out the link, thanks! ;)

02-18-2004, 02:17 PM
Well I live in Manchester but the Con is in London.

What con is it in London your going too? Cos I'm going to one there (the film and comiccon) pretty soon hopefully dressed as Rogue, so I may have to ambush you if it's the same one ;)

Yeah it was LFCC, we had a great time!! (I aint posted here for ages!) Were doing an X-men group for LFCC2 in November, but were also gonna be at Collectormania 5 in Milton Keynes in various costumes in a few weeks.

04-19-2004, 09:25 PM
Well Mon Anime, you lookin' mighty fin' for a Mssiiissippi Swamp Rate, eh?

I mentioned this over on the another place, but for you or anyone else interested in Gamibt, I found that making playing cards out of what is called Magician's flash paper works nicely. A concealed thumb lgniter and as you "toss" the "card" it just goes poof.

Very neat effect.

Cool! I was there too...

I'm going to Collectormania 5 as well....as Rogue! (TAS green and yellow catsuit thing) Doing her on the Saturday, when are you doing your Gambit?

05-16-2009, 09:47 PM
as for a staff all that is needed is 3/4 inch PVC pipe, two 3/4 inch end caps, and silver spray paint.(all of which can be found at your local hardward depot):toothy:

hope it helps!
