View Full Version : L or Light?

I liked the anime. IT WAS AMAZIN! It's sad what happened. They could've been such good friends. So L or Kira?

I think L is a more interesting character, but only by a small margin. It's mostly the battle of wits between the two that makes Death Note great. Light is evil in a very entertaining way, and he's also kind of the scrappy underdog in the story, often surprised by L's deductions and struggling to keep up.
Although I like L more overall, Light does have my favorite scene in the whole series: the part where he reveals that he's Kira to Naomi Misora, and she has like 5 seconds to soberly reflect on what just happened before the DN kicks in. The way he allows himself to savor his victory is what makes Light such a great villain.

I like Light. Something about L I don't like. He finds things out too fast like how he knew Kira was a student and all.

I also LOVE that scene that Elsewhere described. Definitely my favorite scene ever in DN!
And I also agree with ThomasPaine... I don't think L was 'smart', I think the writers just flung information at him that he shouldn't have found out so quickly. It would've been nice to see L struggle for once. Would've been more realistic. Not to mention L may have been the best detective at the time, but I'm sure he hasn't dealt with fantasy like situations like the death note... D: If he had thought it through logically, and was stuck on the fact that death Gods didn't exist, that would've led the story somewhere far more interesting... *cough* Sorry! Ranting!
I choose Light! I love him so much, and I can see where he was going with his logic. He was trying to help the world in his own way. D:

ok, so far it's 1:2
One L : Two Light
let's get some more votes in here, even if it's just to say L or Light.
You're guy' answers are good. I can't decide anymore. X.x

I never noticed this. This makes me appreciate Light more.

L, because his actions are more moral (on death) than Light's

I like L better. Light pissed me off. (don't flame :P)
At first I liked Kira and what he stood for, ya know that whole "only killing the murders and rapist for JUSTICE!" but then he went all power hungry and evil
Well when I watched the first episode I thought he could be kinda cool but then at the end of the episode he was all bent on becoming god and that turned me off of him completely.
So L was the one I liked more.
I just love how awkward he can be even though he's like the world's greatest detective. It's cute. X3
Also he was the first anime character I even cosplayed as (Though I think I'll probably redo him in the future since I had the worst hair day ever that day).
Though surprisingly I've kinda been wanting to cosplay as Light for some reason.
Otherwise I guess I like L more than Light. -^^-

I gotta give it to Kira to have such a brilliant mind and what his beliefs were....
but I choose L for being such a really an interesting character, for someone to be the world's greatest detective to look and act that way he is, is just something very unique! I just think he's just one of those character that is pretty interesting to pay attention to!

There's somthing about Light that I really like. L is adorable but i guess i really like how smart and manipulative Light is. I think I really like how he's the main charater but the villain at the same time, too.

Well both are awesome but in my opinion L is better

Light Yagami. He made a really good villain.

Well, it depends, for L, it's pretty easy, just need a long sleeve white shirt and simple blue jeans, but he is about 95% barefoot, if you are okay going barefoot at cons, then L.
For Light, you'll need a black or white long sleeve collared shirt, red tie, black jeans and shoes. If you aren't okay going barefoot for L, then Light would be best. I too am cosplaying Light, I'll have a black long sleeve collared shirt instead of white. Plus you'll carry around the Death Note and a pen, which is what will I do.
Good luck on your choices! :)

Are we discussing character wise, or cosplay wise?
Because L is fun to cosplay, while Light is just awkward because you're trying to be all dramatic, yet people come up to you and are all "can I sign your Death Note?"
Character wise, I think L's quirks make him a wonderful character, and he is a lot of comic relief on an otherwise overly dramatic anime. On the other hand, L is a lot stupider than he made himself out to be. Light was intellegent, smart, and godly at the same time. L is just kinda cute. Matters what you like better in a character.

I read the manga first and prefer it. You get to see so much more of the intense intellectual battle between the two characters, and I liked that. I never imagined that a story like this would keep me on the edge of my seat, but it did ! All the way through.
Choosing sides is difficult. I loved and related to both characters in some way. I believe Light didn't start out evil, but became possessed by the the power he was given. However, even when he DID become evil I found myself loving and hating him all at once ! L is eccentric, intelligent, adorable, and even despite what happens to him... he is the victor in the end, if only through his successors.
I honestly was cheering for them both all the way through, and was sad whenever I saw one of them fail. I don't think I've ever felt that way about a "bad guy" vs a "good guy" before.
OMG I LOVE L! L! L! L! L!

If we are talking about cosplay wise then it depends. If you want to do an easy cosplay then go for L. If you want to go for a cosplay that is slightly more difficult then go for Light. In my opinion you should cosplay the character you like more.
Character wise I watched half of the anime and both of the live action movies (never got around to watching "L change the world") and from what I saw from those I honestly liked L more. I dont hate Light I actually liked him at first but after awhile L just grew on me more.
I enjoyed both characters in the series, but Light has always been my favorite. I've always had a thing for antiheroes, and he has always stood out to me as an interesting "bad guy".

I think I like them equally. L was awesome, and there was something so unique about Light... he was definitely evil and just about unredeemable by the end of the series, but I still couldn't help but root for him right up to the end even if I didn't want to, and found his death just as genuinely sad as L's.

saw the title, had to post;
I love them both :)

L all the way

Though to be honest the voice actor for kira gives me the shivers, the good kind ;)

I love Light!! But I love L too.... Ugh.
There are quite a few times when it shows that Light is smarter than L, so I guess Light gets a point for that. But at the same time, L gets really close to catching Light, and Light kind of has the upper hand since he, you know, has a Death Note. I think it's just really tied between the two, but, personally, rewatching the anime, I'm rooting for Light.

I cosplay and text roleplay Light Yagami, because I find him more interesting as a character--despite the fact that I hate and oppose everything he stands for. I'm a sucker for a good villain, I guess. :P
02-25-2014, 10:49 PM
L of course:)

Laito-kun. He's proficient in tennis, gets good grades, and is good-looking, ambidextrous, and charming. Most of all, his tenacity, intelligence, and deceit-mastery are admirable, albeit from an evil perspective. Tbh, a role model in several counts.

Light. Finally a bad guy who doesn't let his "emotions" stop him. He's bad to the end.
