View Full Version : Never Been...

Hello! I think I am going to AnimeCentral 2004. I've never been there!
Can anyone tell me about it and how big it is, what the costume contests are like, etc.?

I just found out last night that my plans for Otakon 2004 have been squished flat, so now I am frantically trying to find a good con to go to this year. Any advice?

Acen is an excellent con. It's the biggest anime convention in the midwest. I haven't participated in their masquerade, but a lot of the entrants are AMAZING. I would highly recommend this con to you. For more info: www.acen.org

They have forums there as well

Thanks so much for letting me know

I plan to be there with bells on, and some great costumes! I have a lot of work ahead of me...making costumes for myself and 2 other people...

Here is what I am making for Acen:
From Final Fantasy IV-

From Lunar Eternal Blue-
Ronfar (completed)
Lord Leo

The others are To be Determined, but likely from Legend of Mana (I have a Rachel costume already started)

This is so exciting!!

THis will be my first year going to ACen..I'll most likely be dressing up by myself..I'll NEVER get the hubby to wear a costume but at least he's going with me..:) Maybe i'll see some of you here and there. I've heard it's one of the best Cons and I missed it last year :(

Ohhh FFIV cosplay! That's rare. Great choices.

Anime Central was my frist con last year and I had a blast. Never much so many nice people in one place. There was alot to do to.

Same here - well, sort of. ACen 03 wasn't my first con, but it was my first all-anime con, and I confess to having more of a blast there than at the sci-fi cons I've been doing for years. Met lots of great people, too.

Hopefully, tekla, after the hubby gets a gander at what kind of fun cosplay can be, he'll get bitten by the bug. :)

If only it were that simple..it's hard enough to get him interested in anime half the time. I'm just dragging him along so I don't have to go myself :p

I am going to Starfest ( sci/fi-ish con) on my own though and have an original costume for it :)

I've never been either but Ive heard nothing but good things about it (well, for the most part ^^) I'm just coming out this year to join my little cosplay group-age. I have a feeling its going to be a ton of fun!! Im more worried about flying by my self from California then if its going to be a crap con or not. :P

This will be my first anime convention, as well.

Actually, it'd be my first "fun" convention. I've been to Latin conventions and Health Occupations conventions through school, but somehow...I don't think those really measure up ^_^;;;

I'm planning to do 3 different costumes, each with the group I'm going with. Friday is our Inu Yasha day (I'll be Kagome)...Saturday is Naruto (me=Sasuke)...and Sunday is Kenshin (with me as Yahiko...apparently, I can imitate his voice fairly well, and thus got voted into the role).

I'm really excited about it--it'll be so much fun!!

ACEN is a pretty good starter con. It's not overwhealmingly big, but it's hardly tiny and borring either. Just have some smarts and plan on things like food, cash, and your budget for the weekend and you're good.

Oh, and FFIV cosplay is always a good thing ;P I don't think I've ever seen anybody do Cecil though :/

It'll be my first time at Anime Central too! I actually got money to fly there this year to see my friend, so I wanna go too. So me and my friends plan on this one! The only down side is i'll be totally tight on money cuz i'll be attending a con the month before and otakon not too far after...but that's not the point, lol I can't wait to go! I'm totally excited, Anime Central sounds totally fun! ^.^

I'll be in a Berserk group most of sat...and Arcia from Chaos Legion some time that weekend too...after that, i dunno ^^;;

I love FFIV! It's a fun game. ^.^ I'll look for ya! ^.^

i've gone twice, and oddly enough, i barely attend programming. i think the only programming i participate in is the soap bubble and the masquerade, which are both a blast.

my favourite thing to do at ACEN is schmooze with everyone.

This is going to be my second anime con, my first was Ohayocon this year. I can't wait! I think I'm addicted! lol

02-03-2004, 10:43 PM
wow Rydia, thats a LOT of costumes for a 2.5 day con... dont overwork yourself!

02-13-2004, 01:20 AM
I'm in the same boat more or less with Bounty, as this is only my second "real" con, (first being Ohayocon) and I sooo can't wait!! I'm addicted as well, but I...well I still just can't wait to go. If everything goes as planned, I will be debuting my costume this year at ACEN but that totaly depends on time and cash.

This will be my first convention too.....actually this will be my first time so far a way from my parents (I'll be 20 next month......pathetic, isn't it lol :dunce: ) Anyway....I can't wait....I'm planning on being Usagi (junior high school uniform), Eternal Sailor Moon (Myu), and Kagome.

Well I just was wondering what convention in Chicago would be a good to attend this spring. I just got back to the midwest and was looking into the conventions around here. After reading the posts here got to head to Chi-town in May. Now what outfit? There is never any peace...grrrrrr

02-28-2004, 08:24 PM
It's my first Acen, too! *^^* Happy to be returning to the place of my birth! Oh yeah!

03-02-2004, 01:35 PM
I'm SO pumped for this con! Most of my costumes are well under way/finished. Surprisingly, Rubicant is turning out to be the hardest of all. *rawr*

I think from everyone's responses this sounds like a fun con! I hope to see a lot of you there! Just look for the green. Very green.

Some words of advice for all people attending Acen for the first time...bring food with you....I made that mistake the first year I got a hotel room and had to pay mucho money for food in the hotel. PB and Jelly and Chips are really good things to bring, instant ramen is also....you can use the coffee pot to heat up the water for it (if you dont want to bring bowls buy the ones that are in foam cups) Pop is also great however be sure to hit the ice machine quickly sometimes it runs out and takes awhile to make more ice also, be sure to bring a bottle for water that you can carry around, it can either be really hot or not because it is May in chicago, plus your costume may make you hot...in both ways lol ^^
Also if you want to get into the masquerade be ready to stand in line an hour and a half in advance. last year I was in the game show and once we finished up there was a huge line to get in for the masquerade which didnt even start for another hour ^^ I have pics if anyone doesnt believe me anyway later all hope to see you at acen. If you see a Saito taking many pictures stop by and say hi to him....errr me. lol :bouncer:

PS it is also a very nice /friendly con this will be my fifth year going...I love this con, I look forward to it every year.

This will be my first convention, as well. So, yeah, BlitzballMstr, thank you very much for the food tips. I hadn't even thought about food, and after reading your post it occured to me that it would be much easier, and cheaper, to just bring soup-in-a-cup. Thanks again.
