Anyone interested?

It's a new year...perfect time to start planning for things like this. I've never seen anything happen just for cosplay in the STL area, although I've done a few things, such as the Japanese Festival and Archon. So my question is...is anyone else interested in getting together for pictures? Or even just hanging out? I've been looking around and have a few ideas...but I don't really want to say anything unless I know others are interested.

So please reply? This could be fun! ^_^

That would be fun, I am jelious of my friend that lives in ohio because she gets to go to all of these cons, lol ^^. I think I have heard of the japanese festival before.... hmm. Plus I think that it would be kinda fun to plan a con. ^^

Okay...this has been thrown around a bit, but I think it would be cool if we finally set something in stone here.

What I'm proposing is a meetup either the third or fourth Saturday in April (once things get to be in bloom!), in Forest Park for some outdoor photos. This would be a good oppertunity to bring out all those costumes that need outdoor shots, as well as digital cameras. I doubt that we could get any professional photographers, but we could always take pictures of one another's costumes. How this would go, I think, would be a photoshoot during the day, and then perhaps we could bring a change of clothes and get sushi/bubble tea or something like that downtown?

Anyone else in the St. Louis area want to help coordinate this or come? I'll ask some of my friends, but some cosplayers from the site would be nice to have as well ^_^

Please reply here if you're interested!

This sounds fun....I can try to make it....things have just been crazy around my house, but if things settle down here I should be able to come.

It'll be fun ^_^ feel free to talk about what costumes you plan to wear! as for me, I'm trying to decide between Takako Chigusa from Battle Royale (could take great behind tree and woodland shots out there...) and Rosebride Utena from Revolutionary Girl Utena. But I've got time to choose, I suppose.

Any other St. Louis cosplayers want to get in on this?

Lottie

Oooo this sounds fun! I will try to make it, April is the month of my birthday so this will be really neat to do. ^_^ Hopefully by then I will have at least 2 costumes (maybe 3) done so I will wear have some to choose from. I'm glad there are cosplayers in St. Louis!

Luna Selene
02-29-2004, 08:07 PM
^_^ sounds good! Also, if there's a particular weekend in April or so that will work (or won't work! we can try to work around stuff too), you can post here as well. If not, I'm going to try to decide within the next week after talking to other people I know in the STL area and the feedback here of what days, how long, should we do anything afterwards...and whatnot. So any input?

stormystar

Just about any weekend is fine for me.....I am usually off every weekend, but I will need to know when it is far enough in advance to ask off just in case because they like to mess around with the schedules lol.

Lottie

Hmmm well the weekend after April 22nd would be really good cuz then I would have my license (hopefully) XD I don't really know about the times and such though.

I live in Columbia would like to come too. I have a nearly finished Totoro costume that could use some outdoor shots. I will talk to my cosplayer friends as soon as a date and time are posted to see if we can't get a cosplay fieldtrip set up.

-Well, I am thinking of doing a Chobits costume, (once I decide on which one) I think it would look great with some outdoor shots. That and my Kagome costume...I am don't think my Chance Pop Session or X-2 costumes would need them tho, they are more indoor kinda shots. Altho, maybe Witch Hunter Robin would look good outside. I dunno, what do you all think? Oh, and another question, which Chii costume should I do. I just can't decide!!!!!!!!

-On another note, I did talk to my best friend and my boyfriend, and I think they are kinda intereted. So, there are 2 more people...Luna Selena you know them both. I told them to talk to you for the details.

Star Clipper is having a Witch Hunter Robin movie this sunday, if you are interested. Forest Park sounds great!

Luna Selene
03-10-2004, 04:58 PM
^ addendum to Yuuna's post:

It starts at 5 PM, right at their sunday store closing. You have to e-mail or call for seats in advance. When I went in last Sunday they said the average is about 15 people. This is my first time going this Sunday, so I'll see what it's like.

In terms of dates for the shoot, I plan on making a decision this weekend/early next week, and am shooting for either mid to late april, or VERY early May so it doesn't coincide with Anime Central, which I know lots of midwest cosplayers are attending. I just need to get through third quarter of school first. *sigh*

later days. If any of you know for a fact that you're heading to the Star Clipper thing on Sunday, feel free to drop me a PM or an IM. We can meet up.

Okay...taking a small break from working on my Julia costume (friendly plastic is evil, I've decided), to go ahead and put an update here:

In terms of dates, I'm looking at April 17 or April 24, both Saturdays. I don't really want to schedule it any earlier just because the Park needs to get some life back into it and get some green on the trees and such, and Any earlier might be too soon.

I myself am leaning towards the April 17 date, because I don't want it to come too close to Anime Central, and on the following Sunday there's another Star Clipper anime showing (Yes, I did go to the one last Sunday. It was pretty decent). That way, we could do one day for cosplay photography and one day if anyone else wants to go watch some anime.

My next question after deciding dates is if anyone wants to get dinner/go to the mall/whatever afterwards? Near the park, at least for dinner, I can think of a sushi and bubble tea place (more downtown/central west end, VERY small though), a traditional Japanese restuarant (University city), and a larger bubble tea place with more snack foods, like chinese soup, fries, chicken nuggets, and the like. Of course if you don't want to go for asian food, there's plenty of other places to eat.

Just give me your feedback, or simply what interests you, and especially reply as to what date is more convenient.

Back to work!

Either weekend is good for me. We also should pick a place to meet in the park because it is so large.

Anyone else have input? I'm going to be making a decision by Wednesday of this week and the date will be sticking, so please get your preferences in soon!

In terms of a place to meet, there's lots of available places. Near the zoo, art museum, boathouse...I think the art museum has the most parking though. Any information on this would be appreciated.

Shine-Chan
03-31-2004, 12:04 PM
Is this still going to happen? It would be really good if I could get a date soon so I can get time off and a hotel room. I think the jewel box would be a good place to meet if there wasn't a wedding happening at the time. It has fairly good parking and isn't too busy most of the times I have been there.

Luna Selene
03-31-2004, 04:12 PM
I would be more then happy to do this, but since no one has replied on date preferences, it's debatable as to how many people would actually show.

Since no one has replied, I'm going to go ahead and set this for April 17th, a Saturday, around 1 or 2 PM . Same day as the shoot out in California, ironically, so it'll be fun to post pictures on the same day.

Please, ANYONE who wants in on this, reply! I know I can stalk Yuuna on AIM, but I don't know the rest of you.

please say if you can come or not!

Lottie
04-02-2004, 06:40 PM
Eeeee sorry about the non feedback on the dates. ^_^;; ^_^;; But April 17th sounds good, I don't think I am doing anything on that day so I will try to go. I prolly can cuz my mom goes walking alot there so she can take me and walk or something. Watch there be something I have to go to on that day. XP @_@ Hope to get to meet all of you!

^_^

If I'm not visiting colleges or anything that weekend, I'm sure I can have my moogle costume completed by then, and Kat and Eddie and I can stop by for a bit if you please. :3 All we gotta know is where, and we'll most likely be there!

Shine-Chan

I will be there. Hopefullly I can get two of my friends to come and dress up too.

Luna Selene

If anyone is still interested:

the photoshoot/gathering will be THIS SATURDAY at 1:30 at the Jewel Box in Forest Park. I'm assuming that's where the most parking is. If that doesn't work out, I guess we could try the art museum.

If it ends up raining, the rain date reschedule will be the following Saturday, April 24th.

I don't know how long this'll last, I don't even know how many people will show up. Really I was just planning on taking pictures and meeting people. And for people who've been to at least one con, preferrably two or more or will be going to two or more before October of this year, I have something to ask/discuss with you.

If anyone else has other ideas/requests, please post them here.

Lottie
04-12-2004, 01:47 PM
Hmmm, I'm not sure of anyone from IL but I will very very much try to come up! I dunno if I will bring any costumes, but it would be fun to meet everyone. ^_^

I hope I'll still be able to make it, but my visit to Wash. U might last a little longer than I'd expected... :waaaah: College visits only seem to happen when there's something else I'd rather do that day. I'll still try my best to come, though!

Luna Selene
04-13-2004, 04:32 PM
At least Wash U is close to Forest Park. Maybe a five minute drive away or something.

now, back to cosplay sucking money out of my wallet.

Lottie
04-14-2004, 06:59 PM
Heehee, some people call me Washu (tenchi muyo washu) and whenever I hear of Wash U I always somewhat get confused. I will have to check it out next year though when I start lookin at colleges. =P

And so far, I think I can make it. I just have to ask my mom to see if we are doing anything Saturday but I don't think we are. *hopes not at least* My family never does anything. XP

Luna Selene
04-16-2004, 07:37 PM
Okay...my last update till the meeting tomorrow:

Remember, Jewel box at 1:30, in Forest Park. Bring your own digital camera, and perhaps a water bottle for it'll be rather hot. I look forward to seeing everyone there! If anyone wants to try and point me out, I'll be wearing a khaki school uniform and a black wig, a la Battle Royale.

see everyone there!

Lottie
04-16-2004, 10:17 PM
I shall look for you! I dunno what I am going to be wearing yet so I can't help ya. ^_^;; Maybe something egl-ish. I hope my mom still takes me tomorrow cuz she said she would tonight. She just doesn't know why I want to go. o.o

Luna Selene
04-16-2004, 10:48 PM
Alright, I think I should advise everyone that parking might be a bit hellish. Washington University has their big thirteen festival this weekend AND it'll be a nice day, so there's no telling what the parking situation's gonna look like. I'm going to TRY and get down there as early as possible, but if I'm delayed due to finding a parking spot...well...that'll be why.

Lottie
04-17-2004, 02:44 PM
Hmm, seeing as how it is 1:44 and my mom isin't home yet, I don't think I can make it. >.< >.< >.<

Luna Selene
04-17-2004, 06:13 PM
Alright...this was pretty unsuccessful today. Only stormystar showed up ^-^; , besides myself of course. Thus, I'm trying to think of something new.

Would everyone be more comfortable if we had a casual meeting first? like at a restaurant or something? I still do want to talk to everyone, but I'm thinking that a photoshoot as a first meeting wasn't a really good idea.

Lottie
04-18-2004, 02:36 PM
Eeee sorry I couldn't go yesterday. My mom ended up getting home at around 2 and I thought it was to late. Good news is though that I am getting my license (hopefully) on Thursday so I can most likely defenently go to wherever we decide on, I don't really care. But if it is a restaurant, not to a steak house or anything like that lol. ^_^;;

Shine-Chan
04-18-2004, 06:56 PM

Ok......sorry I haven't replyed, but I've had alot going on....I am just going to let you guys pick (if you are still going to go) a place because I really don't know St. Louis that well....I would probably have to ask my dad for directions wherever we go lol

Lottie
05-02-2004, 08:38 PM
Hmmmm maybe we can all meet up at the Loop or something? I really don't know, I have been going there a lot lately, it's about the only place that I can think of that I like, plus they have lots of restaurants down there. ^_^;;
*looks around* *throws confetti*

Hi folks, A.J. from Star Clipper here! I'd be happy to offer up the shop as a place for are cosplayers to meet, either informally or with a table set up in the back... feel free to just come over impromptu, or give us a call ahead (314-725-9110) if you'd ever like your own space.

Lottie

Luna Selene
05-06-2004, 11:24 PM
I agree, however I doubt that we should meet until after ACen, because I'm betting that a lot of local cosplayers are going to that. I, however, am stuck at the school car wash. In any case, perhaps a late May meeting would be best, as June and the beginning of July for me are already spoken for...and late July is Otakon.

But I do need to speak to local st. louis cosplayers or even anime fans. An upcoming STL sci-fi con could really use us. I need you guys especially...since at this point I'm giving the anime cosplay panel all alone, and I don't even know what the status of the anime panel is for it. I posted a thread about this con awhile back, called Archon, on the other conventions section but no one replied ^^;;

Also, if anyone here is interested in Harry Potter costuming, The Dumbledore's Army costuming group will be out in full force June 4th at the Des Peres theater. Even if you don't have a costume, a group of us will be in some really creative costumes. As far as I know, theres a Draco, Ron, Hermione (me), and a lot of professors and teachers. Please reply or PM if you're interested in attending, or also do cosplay of this variety and are local.

Just gotta get through prom this week...x_x;

Lottie
05-09-2004, 10:39 AM
The panel for the scifi con seems pretty interesting, I dunno if I would be good for it cuz I tend to go on and on about the same thing over and over again. ^_^;; But still. When is the con?
I think something in late May would be good, all I have planned is one thing but that can happen any time really, after may 25 that is. o.o
I'm gonna try to go to Star Clipper today cuz they are having that sale thing but my mom is having a fit cuz I wanna go and it's "Mothers Day" its not like I'm gonna be there for that long. ^_^;;

Luna Selene
05-09-2004, 12:40 PM
W00t...sale! I might have to stop by today then.

heh..I doubt anyone would recognize me if I went today...

anyways, about the con, aka. prelim details:

the name of it is Archon, and it's September 30th-October 3rd 2004. I know it's a four day con, but I generally attend friday evening through sunday and thus they work around my schedule in order to schedule the cosplay panel.

here's the website for all who are interested: http://www.archonstl.org/28/index.html

The information I've gotten from the programmers already is that you must pay for a membership. Otherwise, I'll just need a list of names to give to them of all who want to participate. Really, ANYONE who's been to at least one anime con and cosplayed during it would be really helpful, and if not that, anime cosplayers in general, because I figure the topics covered will be anime cons vs. Sci-fi cons, and the process of cosplaying in both Japan and America, picture taking, skits, techniques (Wigs, makeup, fabric choice...), and more.

In terms of dates for our next meetup, I'd say any weekend EXCEPT the June 4th-6th weekend. That's crazy for me due to the Harry Potter premiere, SAT IIs, and exam prep. but Memorial day weekend before would be doable. If enough people aren't going to ACen next weekend I could do a meetup at Star Clipper around 3 PM or so...

any ideas?

Lottie
05-09-2004, 08:14 PM
Well by the time Archon happens I would have already been to one anime con (Otakon) and I would have cosplayed during it. I might join, possibly. Gotta love those sci fi cons.

I wish I was going to ACen but I'mt so I'm open for meeting up anytime. ^^

Luna Selene
05-12-2004, 10:40 AM
Due to the generous proposal by Star Clipper (I was there on Sunday! No one else was, though. Just really...me and the people who work there in the store!), I think it would be best to have our next meeting there. It might be easier to do this out of costume so we can meet everyone.

My proposed dates are:
this Saturday, May 15, at around 3 PM

or

Saturday June 12th or Sunday June 13th, time flexible.

I cannot make the last two Saturdays in May due to studying for final exams, and then SAT IIs on June 5th. The last Sunday in May and June 6th are also bad for me, since I'll be studying for final exams then as well. So, please place your input here. I could try to do both weekends, at least for a little while, if people cannot come to one or the other.

Perhaps AJ's opinion on this would be nice too? :D

Lottie

Hmmmm I'm not so sure if I can make it out there this Saturday but I will defenently try to make it out there on the June dates. ^^

Okay everyone!

We're at the point where we need to decide on dates. I've been in contact with the people from Archon about a cosplay panel, and they seem interested in coming out and meeting whoever can show up, and generally talk about the con and anime involvement in it. I'm assuming by this point that Star Clipper will be the place to meet, so if ANYONE has objections to June 12th, you've gotta tell me now. If not I'm gonna go ahead and post that date and a time for all of us to meet. Note that you don't have to be in costume for this, since we aren't taking photos, but if you want to bring some of your work to show them (I think I'm going to bring a school fuku, catsuit Julia, and rosebride Utena to show them), feel free. Also, if you have any photobooks, pictures, or any other cosplay or anime convention related material you think would be beneficial for them to look at that you might want to discuss, feel free to bring that too. I really hope a lot of you guys will be interested in talking about cosplay and attending a local sci fi con!

Ooh June 12th is my b-day, lol, besides that, I live like 15 min. away from St. Louis across the river, so I thought I should pop into this thread and mention that. Unfortunately, I don't think I am going to Archon, but I know Saeru (lives 5 min. away from me) is, as she always does, so I will mention this to her.

*I was wondering if we could plan a spiffy photoshoot sometime this summer in the St. Louis area. It would be nice to build meet the other cosplayers from the area in costume and photo ops are always a nice thing. ^-^

June 12th seems like a good date. I don't have anything planned that I know of (unless my parents planned something, they tend not to tell me things until a few days before >.<) so I will try to go up to Star Clipper then. I might bring something too, but I dunno what.

Hi, sorry it's been awhile since I've checked in here! If you are looking at coming in on the 12th that should be no problem. I'll give the staff a heads-up and we can set up a table and chairs in the back with a little advance notice (just email us at info@starclipper.com).

Just wondering if anyone is still going up to Star Clipper this Saturday?

Luna Selene
06-10-2004, 08:37 PM
I will be there, of course. I'm just debating whether to bring any costumes since no one has really replied, especially the people from Archon. But in any case, I'll be there on Saturday at three. If there aren't a lot of people there, I might head over to bubble tea for something to drink after.

Lottie
06-10-2004, 08:40 PM
I will see if anything is going on around 3, which there shouldn't be, and I -hopefully- will be up there around then. I don't think I am gonna bring anything though.

Luna Selene
06-12-2004, 01:31 PM
last minute stuff:

I should be there around three or so (sorry for not replying beforehand. I've been working at a Japanese camp all this week x_x;;;). I'll probably wait a half hour or so to see if people come...if not, I'll probably head to the loop for Bubble tea.

Hope to see some of you there!

Lottie
06-12-2004, 03:29 PM
I think I am gonna leave around 2:50-3 so I should be up there before 3:30 unless something happens at the last min. which prevents me from going >.< which I don't think should.

Luna Selene
06-13-2004, 01:33 PM
Alright.

Well...I managed to meet Lottie yesterday (really nice person!), but no one else came...;-; So this is what I absolutely need to ask from all of you.

If you are STILL interested in being part of the cosplay panel at Archon, You NEED to reply here or get in touch with me through PM/e-mail/whatever. The programming coordinator called me today and told me that I should have a good idea of what to talk about and how many people (roughly) will be on the panel. So...I really need your input now.

Firstly, a few FAQs:

1. The con is September 30th-October 3rd. I'm quite aware that this is a four day con, but I'm also quite sure that our panel will be on that SATURDAY, October 2nd, to get the most people to come. I can garuntee you that it won't be on thursday or Friday during the day.

2. You WILL need a paid badge/registration to be on the panel. Archon will not be providing this for you. rates are on the Archon site, located here: http://www.archonstl.org/28/index2.html

If you wonder if you should be on the panel or not, try thinking about these guidelines:

1. Have you been to a real ANIME con before? (Archon and the Japanese festival do not count).

2. Have you ever made your costume yourself (as in, no commissions. Also, if you spend a lot of time here at cosplay.com and know the fandom, that helps too!)?

If you can answer yes to one or both of these, that'll make you a good candidate for this panel. Obviously, the more experience the better, and I'll be trying to contact people outside of this site as well.

If you ARE interested in all of this, then I reccommend a meeting sometime in mid-July or early August. I'll be out of town from June 20th to July 9th so any time between those dates is bad for me, and likewise I'll be gone the Otakon weekend (July 29th-August 1st). Please please PLEASE reply here with which weekend dates you can make. I'm getting to the point that whenever I pick a date, lots of people can't make it...so please...put your input in here!
