for the love of...

what the....

alright, its just getting insane now.

My group has two rooms in the hotel for this coming otakon... and i can not believe... $195 a night!??!?! for two nights it comes to $458....
why must they do this to us... *shakes head*

this rising price thing is such a horrible trend...katsucons are getting real expensive too... damn me and my expensive hobbies.
^^;

we were hoping, for the first time, to have beds for everyone. we usually have WAY too many people in a room, and my friends parents as a gift are paying for one of the rooms. the question is, do we drop one and all stay in one room, or pay the $55 or $66(depending if there are 7 or 8 of us) per person and keep both...

Aww.. but half the fun of 'conning is sleeping in the tub.. ;) j/k

My room is going to be $200 a night... so $195 is not so bad...

I'm not sure what ours is costing... but we're getting a sweet senior citizen's discount cause my grandparents are taking us!! :D
my grandfather wanted me to make him a pen-pen costume, lol

I usually make my reservations WAY ahead of time via the net rather than calling for rooms....that way I get awesome discounts. And if the hotel chain offers free memberships where you can earn points per nights for discounts or free rooms, take it!

This year for Otakon, I reserved our group 2 rooms at the Hyatt Regency and got myself the Gold Club membership so that that weekend's points go to a free suite upgrade. And the rooms are only costing me $125 a night per room (which isn't bad considering it's a four star hotel).

I think the hotel my friend got us a room at is $175 a night.
It's just NUTS, especially since we like to sleep in BEDS.

I can only cringe at the thought of what AX must cost... luckily, I am crashing at someone's house instead. Otherwise I probably would not have been able to afford it.

Yuck...our rooms cost $116 per person for three nights and that's only if ALL EIGHT PEOPLE show up. ~_~

quixotic
06-21-2002, 01:28 PM
maybe it's just my lack of con experience showing through here, but why not just stay in a smaller, cheaper hotel or motel? Super 8 rooms are around $50/day. *shrug*

as for me, that's pretty much the only way i can afford going. :( though i can see how it'd be nice to have a room in the hotel the con is at....

I choose the Hyatt for Otakon cause I've staid there before and it is literaly right beside the con. I know its a little pricey (its what Jibrille was talking about since she's staying with me) but since my parents are paying for one of our rooms it makes it a little better. Plus since we've know the price of it for awhile, everyone in my room knows to save their amount ahead of time. The odd thing is though, is that it doesn't have a con discount. I'm hoping that they will before the con actually starts cause they have every other year.

Jibrille
06-21-2002, 04:11 PM
yeah, a nice con discount would be a nice save. damn them for waiting till the last minute to have it kick in.
we've learned from con experience that its best to stay in the hotel of the con OR a hotel right next door. cause you never know when there will be gas explosions under ground that will close off street after street........ *grumble grumble*

Well, for our group of four it's $111 per person for three nights, but we had to reserve a room pretty early. I got it reserved in the beginning of December, because last years room organization was the disaster that kept us from going, and i wasn't going to let that happen again.

:sulk:

Otakon Hotels are the pits if you don't reserve early, because all the "affordble" hotels go first and go as fast as the dates are announced. *Holday Inn usually goes in 2 minutes*. At this time, it becomes a matter of do you want pay 200 a night to be close to the Con or do you want to be 7 blocks away and get a reasonable Hotel.

And for even more fun. Check the location page.

That's right, no Hotels. Nothing, Zip, Zero, Zilch! I think some peeps may be out of luck or there's many overflow hotels.

I just booked a room for me and three of my friends at the holiday inn. I mean, yeah, its 169 a night, but, I was rather shocked to see that there were still rooms somewhere open. I checked the Sheraton and Hyatt first thinging they would have some rooms, but both were sold out. ^^; I'm wondering if I should be worried or not.

yeah the hotels are killing me too this year, with $159 a night plus parking for 4 cars, man its getting expensive. At least I'm going with a group of 10 others to cut on those costs. Too bad there won't be enough beds this year, guess the bath tub isn't so bad after all...

Sami
07-24-2002, 10:58 AM
Kellie, I wouldn't mind the tub! :D *thumbs up* As long as no one comes in to potty while I'm in there.. >.>

Last year my boyfriend and I decided to go to Otakon a bit late in the game, and we had to stay at the Mt. Vernon hotel.. it wasn't a bad place, but it was so far from the convention center.. and walking back to your hotel late at night was -very- creepy, since there were very few others staying there with us (Or at least walking back at the same time as us?) It was a hassle too, because every time we wanted to go and drop something off we'd have to trek aaaall the way up.. and aaaall the way back.. :bigcry:

last year i just remember having to walk out of our way to get back to our hotel because of all the exploding gas in the sewers by the convention center O_o That's why I made sure to reserve a spot in the hyatt months ago to make sure we were right by the convention center. Though I think its suppose to rain friday which is makes the hyatt still not good enough cause they have an open walk way to the convention center, and my yuna costume is very not water proof. *sigh*

yeah I remember the man hole covers flying off, me and some of my friends went to eat, but on the way back we had to walk 6 blocks around because they were blocking the streets off so fast. Baltimore had alot of problems last otakon, between the train crash, the gas in the sewers and the truck that fell into the bay. It was just nuts...

Beds? what is a bed? I know what a floor is.

I didn't know the word "bed" was a part of an anime con attendee's vocabulary.

I bring a sleeping bag to every con I go to. :skidude2:

YEAH! and those were just the problems OUTSIDE of the con and convention center! *has evil memories of last otakon*

yes... walking in ritsukos dress shoes that 8 blocks sucked so much. wow i hate sewer explosions...

anyway....
we've had people sleeping in the closets at some of our cons... oh it was funny watching people curled up in a closet...

i heard a slight chance of rain for saturday... i wouldnt be able to leave the hotel in my costume... i must come up with some kind of plan... hmmm..something big enough to cover a ball gown size skirt... *plots*

duct tape, lots of duct tape.. and some plastic. Actually a trench coat or a large rain poncho would work too. The rain may be good, cuz its supose to be really frickin hot, mid to high 90's all weekend long. I hope they have the AC cranked at the convention center again this year....

Though I got to give em some props for not charging us for the flooding of our one room. *reminds self not to let pooze get drunk and pass out in the bath tub while what water runs*

sorry to the people below our room too, we didn't mean to make i rain in your room....

"grrrrrr" hotels = pure evil

Never again will I go to the Radisson after the things they are putting me and my room holder through. THEY ARE GREEDY INSENSITIVE BASTARDS........ What they just pulled unforgivable. I hate very few things in life but the Radisson has made it to the top of my shit list.....

*goes to find very large blunt object to make all of them pay*

Hmph. I was thinking about staying the night, since I was pretty tired to drive the 1.5 hours home (I survived thanks to DDR music and Starbucks XD ), So I was at the Sheraton, and a single room for one night... $225. -_-;

last year our reservations got canceled and we had to get a hotel 15 mins away.

NeoDrifter

I had the most horrible time at a hotel. I was staying at the Sheraton with 12 friends in one room. I claimed my area under the table and bit anyone else violating my area (jk). No sleep, cheap instant ramen and no room for the stuff you just bought. They were also charging us 20$ for each extra person staying in the room. Luckily they never found out we had 12 people in there. A few hours after we checked in someone broke into my bro's car (Nissan 240sx Hatchback) and took our PS2 that he left behind for the Pre Reg line. The hotel refused to do anything to help except call the police. I knew we had a lawsuit against this hotel because there was no other way to get in or out except for the third floor and that other entrace in the hotel. They had a camera fixed right above the door and caught the thieves leaving but did nothing to check the tape. I am gonna get my own room and a custom security system for my car next year

Jibrille
08-01-2002, 09:15 PM

a place that big needs at least twice as many... waste half the damn day waiting for an elevator....

08-01-2002, 10:03 PM
*cough*... Not to sound rude... but that's why there's stairs ^_^

kelldar
08-01-2002, 10:33 PM
hyatt definitely needed more elevators!!! ><
Stairs were out of the question when you're on the tenth floor wearing a lulu costume oO; we finally learned to just press both buttons and get on whatever came first.
blech. even then you'd get squished in the back. oO;

You know what I'm doing next year? Right when they announce the dates for Otakon, I'm reserving my rooms at the Days Inn. That way if I do decide to go, I don't have to worry.

Neon Genocide
08-02-2002, 05:46 PM
y days Inn?

NeoDrifter
08-02-2002, 11:05 PM
Days Inn has cheap prices from what I know. 129$ a night (this price is without tax) for a room with two beds. I'm gonna bunk up with friends again next time at maybe the Holiday Inn and/or Days Inn, if anyone needs to bunk up then look for me at the con, just chip in a little for hotel and your in! Although I can't really guarantee comfort and roominess

I stayed at a Quality Inn that was about a mile away. Pretty good rates ($80 a night for a decent room)...no walking for me, but I was glad to know someone who had a Hyatt room so I could ditch my stuff there. ::nodnod:: Con rooms are usually the best. It's kind of annoying when you have to wear 2 or more costumes in a day...and then there are the small cons like CN, and I'm staying with a friend who's half an hour away O.o Thankfully, Toronto Convention Centre has lockers. I wish Baltimore's did.

NeoDrifter

I hope the next otakon will be better, with no incidents like car theft, people not having rooms, not enough money then again thats wishful thinking. It'll happen at least once if not more every year. Well I'll be at Otakon, if you need help I'll try to help ya, just look for me!

Um yea... I'm new here and I did go to Otakon as a Catgirl Mage in a purple Medeival dress that either had a Chocobo or a Snowy spotted owl beanie baby on my shoulder. ... PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!!!

But anyways... I'm not meaning to mock anyone but my group was forced to get a Suite hotel because one of my friend's mom waited so long to reserve and we couldn't get a better hotel. That hotel was really frightening because the Staff got to know my real name within an hour our group checked in. O_O;

However for our girl group, we did get some sweet deal that we only had to spend $80 each for the whole two nights (for a Suite, that's not bad). I forgot how much it costs per night for the room.. it was the Tremont Suites. But whatever.

For Katsucon, I'm thinking about trying to commute there from the Metro... if it is possible. Katsucon 9 would be my second time going to an Anime convention.
