Hi, I'm going to attempt a cosplay of 'The Question' from the DC universe, most of the costume will be more than easy to get together, except for the facial mask. Would anyone have any idea how to get a mask quite like this of a professional standard, so it actually gives the whole face look without the thing holding it to my face being a bit too noticeable?
Thanks.

A latex life cast would be the thing for you. But you'd definitely have to put nostril holes and eye-holes. Small pinholes could be enough to see through, but it depends on how close to your face the mask sits. There are all sorts of tutorials for lifecasting things like bald caps or partial face masks for scars and burns, even ears. You can look them up to find one that works best for you, but here's one to start with. (http://www.scifihero.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2378)

The gist is that you take a mould of whatever part you need covered. For your face, you'd be stuck with the cast on your face for quite some time. You'd have your eyes closed and straws in your nostrils so you could breathe. This is the part that turns most people off, and for good reason.

Good luck.

I would actually suggest to not use latex. You'd need to put in adequately sized eyeholes and breathing holes to be able to see and breathe properly, which would probably kill the "faceless" effect your going for. Also, the condensation from your breathing may cause a latex mask to peel off. Latex prosthetics and bald caps lay flat to the skin or are skin/airtight, so so covering your nose or mouth completely isn't the safest idea.

I would suggest what Rorschach (Watchmen) cosplayers do, and use layers of skintight fabric, like pantyhose. You maintain breathability thru the fabric. You can get away with a 3 layer mask and still be able to see: the first layer has eyeholes, the next is solid black or white to have a uniform color underneath, and the last is flesh colored pantyhose. If you can see out of the 2nd and third layers, you may be able to omit the first layer as well. The pantyhose will lay close enough to your face that you'd be able to see out, but no one should be able to see in.
