It's called "Hotarubi" (Firefly).

I can't really pick a favorite song, although my favorite album is Macabre. Worst album would be Kisou.

I really don't like Kisou because in terms of sound, musical arrangement, etc., a whole lot of it is just like Linkin Park / whatever the current trendy rap-rock metal band is, except with even LESS compositional skill.

I did like 24ko cylinder and Jessica (nice to see Dir en Grey try their hand at punk, I guess), though.

lemoned
11-11-2002, 01:54 PM
that was just my opinion.... so bugger off.

No one else had mentioned Kisou, and I didn't think that it deserved a bad response.

imho, I think that Deg get better with every album.

Kisou is very well put together and it sounds NOTHING like any trendy rap/rock over here.

And Jessica isn't "punk" Jessica is more like the skate/pop punk.. not real punk. ~_~;

I think it would all depend on your music taste, actually. ^_^;; I don't think is has anything to do with what the band started off playing. it's all about personal preference.

I personally love Kisou, it's my favorite full album of theirs. but that doesn't mean I don't like any of their other stuff, or La Sadies. I heard Gauze first, and knew them based on Gauze only. (Dir en grey was a band I knew about for a long time but never got around to listening to until some of my friends started chasing me with sharp objects O_o) but then I got Macabre, and Kisou, and I like Kisou... why? because I do. it's my personal perference. it's got nothing to do with what I heard first or how I learned of the band. this whole "we're the REAL fans, we've liked them since they were La Sadies! Gauze is the best! Kisou sucks!" thing pisses me off. who cares what album you like? it's all the same band... (and that's not directed at anyone in particular, it's just a general statement)

but even if I didn't like Kisou I wouldn't go around all bitter like some fans (once again, not picking at anyone particular here, this is just a general statement) who bitch about how Dir en grey "changed". it's not that they've changed, per say, they're just experimenting with new and different music and visual styles. how boring would it be if every album sounded like Gauze?

anyway.. that's what I think, not trying to flame anyone. =P

as Thomas Jefferson said *clears throat* Things change with time and changes are done in necessity..or something like that XD
of course talkin about his decision to buy the Louisiana Territory even though as a Dem/rep he was anti-expansionism XD

the thing is..Dir en grey changed and well has been around for 4 years+ and well..people change within time also :)
so for meeee
i think Kisou sounds just as good as Gauze or macabre or six ugly or Missa
cuz well..if it all sounded the same..i would find myself in a bore and move on to another band
i'm glad Diru is expanding their horizons and experimenting w/ different types of music..and it donest' sound bad..it donest sound AMateurish..and thats all i caare aboutt

soshi
11-11-2002, 04:35 PM
yeah...

bands can keep the same sound and still be good, but it's great when a band expands on their skills and just does whatever the hell they feel like. XD

take Malice Mizer for example... to me, their albums with Gackt ALL SOUND THE SAME! even the Garnet and Gardenia singles with Klaha could have been stuffed into Mervellies or something. the only dramatic difference was Bara no Seido.

but that's not BAD, it's just.. I can't handle so much of it after a while. there's no "oooh, I wonder what this single is going to sound like?" it's "oh, I wonder if this is going to be a fluffy French-sounding pop-influenced song, or an diet-industrial song with electric guitar overkill?" it would have been great if they EXPANDED on what they could have done, but it's also great that they stuck to what they wanted to do and told the story they did. (altho, not like they're doing anything NOW...)

.. did that make sense or am I just rambling inchorently? O_o; ah well...

First of all, I never did anything to go against your possession of an opinion. If anything, you're trying to smack ME because -I- have one that differs from yours. So... 'bugger off.'

If you don't think that Kisou deserves a bad response, that's fine. But that doesn't give you the right to start biatching because someone else gives it one.

imho, Dir en Grey has evolved, for the worse. They've had their ups and downs, and now just happens to be a down. Hopefully, they'll get better. Again, my opinion, something I'm entitled to just as much as you without you getting uppity about it.

Define 'punk'. Define 'goth,' define 'glam,' define 'visual kei'. It's all up to interpretation, really, and from my exposure to punk music, I would consider Jessica to be much closer to punk (or even perhaps punk-alternative, dare I put the words together) than any other genre I can think of. 'Real' punk? What the hell is 'real' punk? Are you some sort of hardcore elitist, or is there actually a genre called 'real' punk?

I ONLY LISTEN TO TEH 'REAL' JROCKS! har har.

lemoned: Making an assumption is not equating oneself with god. Unless, of course, you think differently about them, in which case.. perhaps you've made an assumption about someone making an assumption, therefore equating yourself with god? OH NO!

and wow.. that sure is a low-level thing to get so pissy over in regards to an assumption... you'd have to 'assume' someone was a Nazi or something equally messed up to get -that- kind of reaction most of the time.

Embryo hands down is my favorite song. ^^ It's just... Ah I can't find the words. Mr. Newsman and Mazohyst of Decadence have to be close too. ^_^;; Mr. Newsman is just..fun. I love bouncing around to it. Mazohyst is kinda repeative with the beat and background music but I really love Kyo's vocals in it. Very laid back sounding but still has that creepy insane edge.

Though, I like almost all of Deg's songs. Good band. I haven't heard most of the songs on Gauze yet, since I'm a new fan and I haven't been able to locate and buy the CD. Kisou and Macabre are almost even, but Kisou ends up being my favorite between the two. Shinsou#3 is a great song for to wrap up an album. Mm....love those piano songs.
