i was wondering if some one was going to hold a LAN party like late friday or saturday night. some people in my party are asking (they've never been to an anime convention before). i know it's not unheard of at conventions, but it's a rare sight.

erm.. at the risk of sounding stupid, what's a "LAN" party?

If I were driving down myself or with one other person, I'd bring my compy... but since I'm riding down with four other people and their baggage, I doubt there'll be any room my big huge compy and monitor. ><; I have a lot of junk on my computer to share too... bleh.

A lan party is basicly where people bring their computers, trade files, and play network games. I've been to a few before, they're fun... in a geeky nerdy kind of way. =P

um, i don't think there will be any Convention sponsored lan gaming, and i'm not bringing my rig that i seriously game with down

However, I do know that people bring their computers who are more local, and bring hubs and what not. I for one am bringing my laptop and cd's to burn things, and i always wonder about toying with the idea of having a hub there just to do whatever. But full fledged LAN parties with servers, i don't think so. if you got a laptop and a cable, maybe.

Well, I am lending my PC to the game department in return for holding my signup sheet...

Grab some more doujin games, those things rock. I want to have plenty on there for the con.

it might be possible a few years down the road for a lan party there, or even like a LAN ps2 (ps3 in the future) or x-box.

Thats funny, my friend and I found some internet jacks on the first floor and within an hour had about 10 people around us with laptops (I think they were playing FF XI) and a modded xbox. A switch appeared along with some powerstrips. It was all pretty random and awesome.

Was there a cyber-cafe in the food court?
I read there was one... but reading and being are two different things.

There was a cyber coffee thing there if you went down to floor one via those steps that went up to the ballroom. They had some computers and network jacks out, but I never really checked it out. I understand that they charged for access to the net. I just went along the hallways plugging into various jacks until I found one that was hot. It seems that their policy was to unplug most of them unless there's intent to use them. I never found any wifi around except for another event somebody held, which happened to be where I found a hot cat5 jack.

While I did see that, the one I'm talking about was for a dinner that some insurance folks held, the dinner was on floor one kind of in the back. That's also where I found the hot jack and formed an impromptu lan party. It was WEP enabled, not that that's an obstacle or anything.

Ahhh.

Another one.

WEP enabled is an obstacle... takes time to grab those packets... don't it?

Even though my key is the kind an idiot would put on his suitcase.
