The Con rocked.

The hotel staff didn't.

This was my second OhayoCon, and it definitely improved from last year, in my opinion. However, I think the Hyatt could use a better staff.

My complaints about the hotel: I wasn't too pleased our reservations got screwed up(Two rooms for -two- nights was what we reserved, instead, we got two rooms for Friday night and one for Saturday, so we canceled Saturday and went to the one across the foodcourt. We weren't pleased with the Hyatt.). Then, the cleaning ladies spoke Spanish(Unfortunately, me and none of the people we were hanging with understood them), so we had no idea what they were saying when they knocked on our door. And finally, there was a -really- mean manager lady on the 17th floor...who banned me and my friends from that floor(...even though we -did- sort of start an ice fight in the middle of the hallway...), and threatened to call Security to escort us from the hotel.

But, if you ignore the hotel staff for the Hyatt and focus only on the Con, it was pretty good. They needed a slightly bigger dealer's room, though it was more tolerable than the year before. The prices were a bit high for some things...and FUNimation refused to disclose any information on who had the One Piece dub...

The video rooms weren't too appealing, to me atleast. All of the good stuff was on Friday, though Registration closed too early to even snag a badge.

The 'No food being sold in Dealer's Room' bit was unfortunate too. Anyone know what that was about? The food court didn't have a very good selection either.

The Blood concert was really good. I was suprised, actually, since it was my first Japanese concert XD. They booked a nice band(And Blood played Gackt! Squee!)

I didn't get to see the Masquerade, so, I can't comment on that(Unfortunately...)

That's my 2 yen commentary on OhayoCon ^^;.

(Oh, and, if anyone was wondering, my Cosplay plans were messed up due to the snowstorms. x.o;. I ended up just cosplaying Kouichi the whole time.

Oh, and, excuse the long post X3.)

I liked it for my 1st Con. I'm upset that I missed Cosplay due to other plans and missed the DDR too. I wanted more...much more from the Game Room. The video rooms ok with me... looked like they were showing killer movies in Vid 1 though.
They need a bigger Dealers room with reasonible prices. I wanted more wallscrolls and even rarer stuff.
The concert was cool, but I was abit tired. I did love the Inuyahsha cast and the AMV (I could watch those all day ^_^ that's what they should have had in a Video Room).

Also I wanted more music... that should have had a Dj. spin off. I would have entered that. Of course j-music only.

Oh. There was ONE staff member who I thought rocked.

He collected the trays from room service, and was pushing around a cart-thing on the 11th floor, and he walked by our doujinshi party, and we moved out of his way, and I said 'Yay for random guys!' and the guy said 'Yes! GO RANDOM TRAY MAN!' and passed by, and we were all clapping. Then he came back, and said 'Random Tray Man returns~!', then left again.

The uniforms the hotel workers had to wear scared me...but atleast they didn't look Star Trek-ish, like the ones at the last hotel looked.

They did need more variety in the Dealer's Room too, I agree. But there was a few nice places(Doujinshi's and J-Rock XD). A lot of the tables were selling nearly the same stuff, I noticed. But all at different prices, and all so -high-.

But I guess it was to be expected, since not usually are things cheap at Cons.

-.-
Security sucked....I was pissed at being told I couldn't take my purse into the dealers room. Like I would leave it out there with them and others to rummage through.

And why they were keeping people out of the dealers room was beyond me....

Not enough panels nothing that really interested me.
Video Rooms were showing decent anime, but....hard to find.
Workshops...while different lacked good planning,

I give this con a C

I never really go to the panels ever. I wanted to go to the Inuyasha VA one to see if it got hijacked by Gundam Wing fangirls, but never managed. Never went to the Workshops either ^^;.

My grade for the con would probably be a B+/A.

I think they were trying to keep the Dealer's Room slightly able to move around in. Although it wasn't bad, I still think it was a bit packed.

Oh. And, if you're talking about ColossalCon, yoosh. I intend to go ^^;. For my second year. I think I'm going to stay away from the ice machines though.

I thought it was good, maybe because it was my first con. I spend most of friday in the dealer room or the Live Action Rooms. Saturday i spent most of day watching Kamen Rider flix and Volcano high, then i went over to the room that had Music Videos and watched that, then watched 1 episode of X. The Family Feud Anime thing was also pretty cool and the DDRers were freakin awsome. Unluckly i missed the Blood Concert due to i was on the verge of passing out due to i ate once the whole day, which was dinner. and i hated my outfit, ill make something asskicking next time :P

Other then my personal stuff :P i thought it was good. They kinda needed someone who knew what they were doing for the Panels like the Jrock ones, and security was kinda retarded. Who ever planned what conventions went on at what times has a funny sence of humor by having 2 christian conventions and an anime/jrock convention at the same time ^_^ (they sure didnt like wolfwood ^_^). The dealer room had lots of anime stuff and Jrock stuff, and awsome prices from Anime Palace ($300 model kit for $200 my little bro got) but i was sad that i couldnt find any Kamen Rider DVDs and that they were showing it. I give the con a:

B
*Good Live Action and Variety
*Bad Panels
*I got my hide Plushie
*1 too many Buus with suggestive shapes on their heads

XD. We got such a laugh out of the cons that were going on simultaneously.

Two of my friends were riding an elevator, and one was cosplaying Hiei while the other was cosplaying Youko Kurama, and the elevator they were on was filled with people carrying Bibles from the Luthern gathering thingy. The amusing part was that Youko was had the rose whip and a rose XD. She said the Lutherns were giving her odd looks.

I just got stuck on an elevator with a lady in a formal gown and a glass of wine, who looked too intoxicated to notice any of the other cosplayers XD.

Did anyone else get asked by one of the Luthern people 'What's going on?'. I had to explain three times to different people what an anime con was XD. The looks on their faces were priceless.

Howdy! Just got back from Ohayocon a few hours ago and oye am I tired... what a weekend!

Although this con wasn't perfect... I must say I had an awesome time attending. I was able to get some gnarly pictures (they'll be on the web shortly) along with several great mini-interviews with many random cosplayers. All the different people and costumes made this convention pretty entertaining for me... I'm still new to the whole anime scene (Ohayocon being only my 2nd con), so I was only able to recognize a few costumes.

Some problems I had with Ohayocon were:
The Video Rooms: Were all of them really necessary? I can understand if they want to show bleeding-edge new anime... but what I don't understand is why would someone spend hours in a dark room watching movies when there were a ton of other activities going on. The space from the video rooms could have been used to maybe expand the game room or something (that place was cramped at times!)

The Dealers Room: Okie dokie... there was one thing good about this room.... it was pretty spacious (if all things are considered). However, I personally thought that the product selection was limited and the prices were high. I guess I can understand the high prices (because lets face it... if you want something bad enough, you'll pay for it), but the small selection sucked.

Alrighty, there's my beef... now for the good parts hehe
Main Event Room: I pretty much loved everything that took place in this room... the two gameshows and karaoke kicked ass.

The Game Room: Sure... it had a major BO problem at one point... sure it was cramped... but that's because it was a fun place to be. It was hard to keep up with all the DDR and SC2 going on. I loved it.. good times.

Cosplay Skits: Ok, so I'll admit that nearly 90% of the time I had NO idea what people were dressed as, but I still found the skits entertaining. I may not have been laughing for the same reasons as the audience, but I still thought it was nice for you ladies and gentlement to get up on stage and entertain us hehe.

All the people I was able to interview and take pictures with: Hehe, you guys are awesome. I truly appreciate any time you gave to me to pose for a picture or for a little interview. It means a lot to me :D (I'm easy to please... what can I say) I was that guy with that multicolor hat and the big aviator sunglasses, incase any of you were wondering.

**Update*** I got some pictures up at http://www.swigged.net/pics/ohayocon2k4/ Expect more eventually!

I really liked last year better. This was really unorganized to me. The only good thing was the food court ^^;

I think the judging for the cosplay was unfair. You should only give 1 award to 1 person. It wasn't fair at all. And if you were on staff, you couldn't get any awards either.

I was in the Gravitation skit. Heheh. "Be Serious!", screaimg that made my throat hurt.. x.x.. I was happy some people knew who I was as Mars, that made my day. And I got to rape Tetsuo, so that was fun.

I must say once last thing.. Luigi, you rocked XD

I drove up but did not say in the hotel.. to bad I missed all the parties.

I really liked this con better than last years, mostly because of the location. o_O The food court rocked, and there were tons of places to take pictures and to just crash if you were bored.

The dealers room was a bit...bland. I liked last years layout better. That, and the prices were nearly insane on some things. I spend -40 bucks- on my hide plushie...But that was worth it, so I guess I can't complain. But still.

I didn't go to any panels/workshops, nor did I stop in any vid. rooms. None of them really interested me. ^_^ I did go to the little Blood q&a session though. That was fun, save for the whole lack-of-real-translater part.

The Blood concert -rocked-. That's all there is to say. I'm a long-time fan of visual bands, but this was my first Japanese concert. ^_^ I adored it. That, and I was up front and center. I got to put my fingers in Kiwamu's mouth (o_o Long story) and pet Takeshi's arm. (Did I get their names right? o_O) ^__^ And staying the extra couple hours today was worth it to get their autographs.

The cosplay contest was actually pretty interesting...Except that I couldn't hear a word of any skit that didn't have one of those pre-recorded voice tracks. I liked the gigantic video screens they had set up. I left early to get in line for Blood, so I can't comment on the judging.

i only went on saturday, but i wasn't really impressed. i didn't really do that much. i mean, i had a lot of fun walking around in my gigantic ff8 group (i was quistis) but other than that, there wasn't much i was interested in doing. i think there could've been a lot more in the game room too. and there wasn't that much anime i was too interested in watching. i also agree that they should've showed music videos in one of the video rooms. there weren't a lot of panels i was interested in either.
about the hotel staff, their uniforms scared me too!

I was moping around because all of the One Piece flags in the dealer's room were insane. The pins and keychains were pricey too. And, despite how hard we tried, we found not one Gravitation thing. My friend was searching for a Gravi fix, too.

'Twas sad.

-Tacklekills 0bscurity- You got to pet Takeshi?!! No fair ><;.
Was the lack-of-real-translator bad? I read somewhere Kiwamu can understand English(Though I don't know if he can speak it oo;.).
The food court and location were good, though I had problems finding a place to eat. And then the lines were too long. I think the lady at the Chinese place didn't speak English well, either, because she was getting frusterated with the fact I couldn't understand what she meant ><;.

Our little group spent lots of time wandering, too. And half of us also spent a lot of time playing a gigantic game of hide-and-go-seek around the food court and escalator area, trying to lose Youko and Hiei XD. We went up and down the escalators too many times to count, too oo;.

I watched a few of the AMVs too. They needed more seating in there, because we ended up having to sit on the floor.

They also should of had signs indicating where things were. There was multiple times when we'd be wandering around trying to find something, but ending up not finding something.

Plus, they moved things around. Artist's Alley was in a different spot on Saturday than it had been on Friday.

Then again, if I had used the maps...

I was impressed with the lightning fast Registration after about 11:00 on Saturday, and the Dealer's Room was all right...except the CD selections were limited to Ayu, don't much care for her.

Cosplay...ummm, I didn't get there that late, but I couldn't hear very much at all. It seemed that nothing was done to improve the sound quality during the performance at all. This was just unberable.

Open-mic Karaoke...bah. You can't call that karaoke. Singing along with the singer...come on. Buy a Karaoke Station, it's way more fun and not that expensive. But, that requires a knowledge of Japanese, which I know not everyon has. But honestly, there are Original Karaoke mixes of EVERY Japanese single. USE THOSE.

Other than those things, I enjoiyed my day. The scoring system for the DDR tourny was odd, though. My boyfriend competed, and he got more Perfects, a higher grade, a higher score, not to mention missed fewer steps, but the OTHER person advanced.

I couldn't even find the Art Gallery...

It was still somewhat fun, though.

The con wasn't too bad, but A-kon and Otakon have spoiled me. The panels weren't too interesting (unless you really like the Inuyasha dub, seemed like they had a bunch of panels). Cosplay was hard to hear, and it was strange that people won multiple awards. Ah well. I didn't cosplay this year (didn't want to ruin my costume since I didn't stay at the hotel). Prices were expensive for toys and such, but DVDs weren't too bad. I did buy a Japanese CD (the brilliant green's THE WINTER ALBUM) and the price was high, but I was determined to get an import CD this year.

^__^ Oh, but that's not all...I got my fingers in Kiwamu's mouth during the show, -and- I got a picture with Takeshi today, during their autographing time...thing. Ehehe. And Kiwamu does speak/understand some English, but he's apparently not very fluent yet, so it was difficult for him to understand us, and for us to understand him. ^_^ He personalized peoples autographed pictures and whatnot, but he had to have a post-it with your name written on it.

There was an Art Gallery? XD. We couldn't find it either. I guess we got spoiled from last year, when everything was just walking down a long hallway and easily accessable.

I know what you mean, JgPocky. After going to Anime North and CN Anime, it was a change to go back to an American con(Canadian ones are...different somehow). Though the prices at OhayoCon were even worse than the Canadian prices oo;.

Eeee. I had to leave too early to get any of Blood's autographs. And I was broke and exhausted last night, so I couldn't get any of their merchandise.

I still adore the fact they sung Prayer XD. I recognized it almost immediatly and was all giggle-squealy.

My friends apparently spent a lot of time trying to figure out the band's genders too after the concert XD. We were the noisy ones towards the back who kept cheering whenever anyone got near anyone else ^^;.

I developed just a little obsession over Takeshi...just a -little- one...I swear x3.

I'm not turning this board into a Blood obsession board...I swear. Hehe. I would have hated to have been a Luthern walking past the Ballroom while Blood was preforming and people were chanting 'Blood!'.

I was very happy on how things went with it being my 2nd year at Ohayocon. I only wish that I could of been there more than one day. The turnout looked bigger than last year.

My only disapointment was how the dealers room was set up. To have to stand in line 10 to 15min to get in and very little room to get around was not very pleasing

Yay! I really liked the con this year. However, I was very disappointed that the Dealer's Room closed so early on Saturday. The Masq. was fun but the lack of MICs was annoying...or MICs that worked? I unno, it was fun I sat by amusing Digi Charat and FFVII people >XDDD

BLOOD's concert was AWESOME. Kind of annoying when people obsess yet have no idea who they are though *blinks* yea~ hehe still it was energetic and exciting. <333 ^___^

Whoo! It was a helluva Saturday (kinda sunday too...) for me!!! EEEEE! This was my first con and I LURVED IT! hahahaha.
I lied on my profile now...i didn't get my cosplay costume (Ai Hayakawa) done so no wi have to edit that whole thingy....Despite my non-cosplayness, I got glomped because many Gackt Fangirls (like me) LOVED my t-shirt that i made when i was half asleep on friday night O.o...its just a cheap iron on after all. I also had doofy cat ears that my good friend Kate made me ^.-
Some really nice lady gave me Pocky....FOR FREE! FREE POCKY! That was worth it ^.-
What else was worth it, was getting 'watered' on by water full of Blood saliva in it O.o...i pulled out the fangirl squeal (EEEEEEEEEEEEEE) just for a very VERY atractive looking Takeshi (much better looking than the pictures i've seen) I almost got one of the wings they threw, as with Kaede's cup (That the water came from ^.-).
Sure, I had no clue what most of the people were dressed up as, but I had fun making fun of the TOTALLY BAD costumes, as well as being awe-stricken by the TOTALLY AWESOME costumes :P
My family has already decided to keep the calendar open for Ohayocon 5 (which we will get hotel accomidations for, as well having 3 whole costumes for cosplaying goodness ^.-) My tenitive schedule (ALREADY) is: day 1: Ai Hayakawa (FFU) 2: Aeris Gainsborough 3:something else final fantasy, unless i really get into some new anime shows ^.^
Over all I CAN'T WAIT TIL MY NEXT COOOON! (Con...not coon >.>)

OMG. This con rocked. Especially Blood (and not just the concert, mind you. I'm gonna start a whole topic for it cause I have just a few little stories to tell). My best friends made best friends with Scott McNeil. You may have seen them. They were the twins in the Chinese dresses hanging all over him every second of the day. One got his autograph on her bra. Yeah. And lots more autographs, hugs, and KISSES. And me too! We have his address and phone number and email and everything. Although I'm not as into it as they are, it was still awesome.

The panels and video rooms weren't that good this year. And the dealers room was okay. I didn't think the prices were that bad. The j-rock table was awesome.

I dragged along two of my friends from school who practically have(had) no clue what anime or jrock was and now they're obsessed with it. They learned what a glomp is and what yaoi is- and they love both.

On Friday we had an awesome time with the people in the evening dresses and suits for the BMW convention. Me, my twin friends, and twoo others we met went around perposely freaking the people out with our costumes. It was great.

XD!!! That was the funnest thing EVER! I was wearing my super gothy Jrock outfit, with my tube top and fishnets and top hat...And me and my friend(s) kept walking through the bar area and lobby just to see how many people would stare at us. God, that was cool. I think two years ago at Ohayocon 02, there was something similar going on that that con hotel, I don't really remember it correctly, but I do remember alot of old people in fancy clothes.

Oh, and my mother accidently listened in to some clueless traveler's conversation with someone on the cell phone while she was passing time in the food court. She said he was talking about all these crazy teenagers dressed up in these weird outfits. He told whoever he was talking to that he thought they were shooting a movie somewhere nearby, and that's why we were all there. o_O; I don't even want to -know- what kind of movie that would be...

Well, this was my first con, and I must say, being a Vash at a con seems to have its perks. I missed friday, but i was there for all of saturday, and some of sunday. I didn't see the Blood concerto either, but I guess that is alright...as I was taking care of a very sick little sister (bad food = bad times)

I doubly enjoyed the hotel room, as the young ladies next door were....interesting to say the least. One was rather attractive, and I can garuntee that she didn't pick up any "hints" from me. :sulk:

Oh well, all in all, I must give this con an A since I have nothing to compare it with...Now what to do with my costume o.O

^__^ Oh, but that's not all...I got my fingers in Kiwamu's mouth during the show

Hehe, you must have been close to my friend. He did the same thing (lucky! ><).

This was my second convention (my first OhayoCon), and I really enjoyed it. Comparing it to my only other con, I can say that the panels and activities they had to offer were much more interesting than SugoiCon's. What I didn't like was how everything was going on at the same time, so I was only able to attend one panel (and I even had to leave early), and all of that was mostly because of cosplay (I was in the poorly-prepared Dir en grey skit that no one could hear ^^) and having to go to the pre-judging/walkthrough and get to the ballroom early. Anyhoo, enough griping. Having BLOOD as a guest made me a VERY happy person (I was SO close to touching Takeshi, but my vinyl dress sleeves wouldn't let me stretch my arm out far enough ;-; ). They were so fun! (And they played U+K! ^^) Unfortunately, my mom wanted to leave early today, so I didn't get to go to the BLOOD panel. >.< Argh. Frustration. BUT ANYWAYS, being obsessed with J-rock as I am at the moment (I'm sure you couldn't tell), it made me happy to see so many J-rock cosplayers. ^^ What also rocked my socks was that there was a Ferio cosplayer and a Final Fantasy IX cosplayer (Garnet)! And they were both so good! ^^

I also thought it was a nice hotel with excellent rooms. o.o (Again, I'm only able to compare with SugoiCon =P) Would've been nice if the microphones had been fixed so I could hear the skits that weren't pre-recorded, but oh well, what can you do. ><

Ah yes, it was very rewarding to have SO many people, J-rock fans and non-J-rock fans alike, to come up to me and tell me how much they loved my wig! (That thing was a mofo ><). {Amusing - a family carrying a couple of bibles walked by me and one of the kids told me I had a cool wig! LOL And I keep hearing things about some strongly religious people thinking cosplay is evil. O_o Made me chuckle.)My friends told me that when they were with other people and those other people saw me walk by, they would comment on how much they liked my wig, and they'd be like "Yeah, I know her" and yeah, it made me happeh. ;.;

AdamtheStampede, you didn't happen to get asked to join a Doujinshi Party in a hallway, did you...?

I got stuck in a hotel where a bunch of teenaged hockey players were staying. And old people. The hockey players were staring at me oddly today when I was eating breakfast as Jou xD. One of the boys had been walking through the food court yesterday going 'Oh yeah, this is one of those 'anime conventions'.'

It was definitely amusing, all the things going on at once.

And no one ask about the doujinshi party. It was as random as the Super Tray Man bit. And the fact that we couldn't go in an elevator area with taking pictures or getting our pictures taken. Always by the elevators XD. Or when we weren't ready. -Whacks the Fansview picture- I look -horrible-!

-Glomps ginko- Go Toledoans!

Yes...the info book itself was complete too. If you look in the back for the credits, half of the sections didn't have names fully in them. I got a few good giggles over the writing in the info book though. Amusing to a sleep deprived dork on a looong car ride back.

They should have had the autograph sessions listed on the schedules too.

Did anyone else find the schedules hard to read?

They should have had a guided tour of the Con facilities.

'And this here is the Art Gallery...but, you can't see the entrance, because we've convienently concealed it within this here wall, for maximum security and stealthness.'

Or maybe, the hotel wouldn't allow multiple pictures to be gathered in one single room together, and so banned it, just like they did Pocky in the dealer's room(From what I hear).

Dirty Pair Flash Kei here! These are my impressions from this con:

I've been to all the ohayocons and a few others as well, and i must say that over all this con was a tad better than the previous ones, but it had it's downers aswell. The first thing that all of you may of realized were the elvavators. In the morning it was a good 20 minute wait for them! yarg. Compared to some cons the dealers rooms are small, but people must realize that most of those dealers were local as well. Ohio isn't too well known for anime stores. You had to wait in line because of a safe holding capacity for the room. they made a line at ohayocon II

as many of you noticed, a religious convention called "mid winter" for the high school aged kids was going on as well. To me they were nice, i told them why i was dressed funny, told them what the convention was about and wished them a happy stay. They had a church service on friday, went ice skating and such saturday and andother service again on sunday. Oh yeah and that annual BMW car club ball was going on too. Oh i've got big balls!

The food court was a great touch and the guy in the tabacco shop was funny, every two hours he went up to the bar to get his brandy glass refilled.

I must say the cosplay went off smoothly because you didn't have to sit around for 2 hours having the head honchos showing you their game boys. it started right away and the live band was a nice touch. However, like others said, the sound was too soft. My brother said that people who went to the judging on saturday were turned down because of the head of cosplay didn't want to judge that many people? i don't know thought i would look into this rumor.

Again reservations were bad too. My woman was russian/ukranian? and i asked for a non smoking double room, and she's like, "oh you wanted a king room?" and i had the hotel read back to me my reservations 3 times, before the con!

The hotel staff was a bit touchie yes, but the staff helped people out by moving parties into panel rooms. SUnday was a little too slow. I always feel bad for the people who come jus ton suanday, because nothing is going on. Luckily i speak spanish, so i the maid to come back at a later timein spanish.

The hentai panel rocked. It wasn't at all what i thought it was going to be, a total surprise! I do like all tje video rooms playing, something for everyone! and i also had the hardest time finding the art room, all tucked away there.

The Family Feud Anime thing was also pretty cool and the DDRers were freakin awsome.
Heh...I was going to pretty much remain quiet and lurk around, but I have to say it was quite an experience being in the Family Feud, too. It was my first real con "participation" (besides for video game tourneys and stuff), and it was tons of fun. I was on the losing team (JCON).
I've been to all four Ohayocons so far, and it's amazing how they've improved. This was the best gaming room in years. As you've probably figured out, I'm a video game fanboy. Anyways, unfortunate planning meant I had to skip the DDR tourney. :waaaah: It did feel good to know I qualified, though.
Anyways, it was an excellent con in general. Midnight Madness was fun, the DDR project was winnar, late night hall karaoke was fun AND had a short line, the people were friendly, the staff was helpful, and everything was happy. Can't wait until Ohayocon 5.

Unfortunate that we weren't the only ones who had reservation mixups, silent_hippo. We checked in multiple times too to make sure we had -two- rooms for both nights.

I think they stopped accepting Cosplay entries on the day before the Con started(Thursday), because there was too many. According to the website.

XD. Some of the staff members were a bit friendly. With Random Tray Man and the Guy In The Funky Uniform. He was a bell boy or whatever, Funky Uniform Guy, and we told him his uniform looked funny, and he laughed a bit, agreed, and said 'But hey, I get paid'.

I recognized a lot of people from Cosplay.com too at the Con, like you said, Rameana, but I wasn't completely certain who everyone was, and feared no one would know me ^^;. I did greet Ameria-chan, but that was basically by pointing at the Nuriko cosplayer in our 'group' and going 'Real men have PURPLE hair!' in response to the sign about Pink ^^;.

Eeee! -Glomps 0bscurity now- Yay for people who live just outside of Toledo! XD. I know where Oregon is, but I've only been there like...once.

Now I don't feel so alone in Northwest Ohio(Though I haven't felt alone lately, thanks to Mediaplay's anime club. Despite the fact most people came from Michigan to it).

Hopefully next year the staff will loosen up.

And hopefully the elevators won't be so packed either XD. We ended up taking the stairway a couple times(17 flights of stairs while cosplaying Kouichi from Digimon Frontier is asking to get completely into character and renact a certain scene).

I didn't "join" the party, but i was thoroughly frightened by it, yet strangely enticed...But yeah, I think i also talkeded on the elevator with other people too. It was amusing to be carrying around a cross, and having non-con-goers ask me if i was a unitarian or an anarchist...weird people who dont know anime...BAKA!

Hi, I enjoyed Ohayocon as my first con. I had a lot of fun even though I mainly only got to sit down not being dragged around by my younger cousins when I was in the masquarade. I agree with the schedule being hard to read and trying to find the different places where the activities were being held. I was always second guessing myself trying to read where those boxes denoting the times for the events started and ended.

I enjoyed cosplaying for the first time also (esp. as Ash Ketchum!). It's been something I've wanted to do for.. well since I started liking anime! I was amazed at all of the skits performed in the masquarade. I think everyone who participated did an excellent job! Congratulations to those on here who won and I hope that I can improve and become a great cosplayer.

I didn't stay for the concert, that type of music just doesn't appeal to me.

Talk to ya all later!

P.S.: I did not have a camera with me to take any pictures. Some of my school buddies want to see how I looked, if anyone has a picture of me, please send it to me. Thanks!

Well, I have to say, there is a fair amount of things to discuss about Ohaycon this year.

First off, it was far from being a horrible convention. That being said, it was a few fries short of a happy-meal-of-convention-fun. I'll try and keep this short.

Dealers Room: I dont know why, but it always felt crowded. I dont think i've ever seen a continuous line for the room at ANY Ohayocon, but I'm going to attribute it to an increase in attendance from last year. The room itself was bigger, but there seemed to be less available. The cool stuff that WAS there seemed to be very expensive. I know that the two dealers I saw that had the good Naruto forehead protectors were capitalizing on their popularity and trying to sell them for 3-4 times what you could buy them for on Ebay ($75-80 at the con, compared to $25 on ebay). Also, I still dont understand why the Dealers rooms in ANY con have to close so early on Saturday. 6pm on a Saturday? You'd think that while Cosplay was going on you'd be able to go in there and NOT have to wait in line. Oh well.

Video Rooms: These were well done. There were alot of them, catering to both the anime and live-action fans. I have to also note that the choices of anime were very good this year - including a good mix of shows both new and old. I also thought it was cool that some series got a lot of play time and you could watch the majority at the con itself. Add this to the fact that the rooms were open 24/7 and you've got yourself a really good setup.

AMV Contest: No complaints here, except for the excess of Lain videos and not too many Comedy ones. Neither of these is the Con's fault tho.

Cosplay: From what I've heard it went over well. I was off doing other things. However, I've heard some people have issue with one person/group winning multiple awards. Whatever *shrug*

Location: Frankly, I liked 2003's hotel better. It flowed better and everything in the con was laid out in one line. This hotel felt kinda disjointed even though everything was pretty much connected. It was, however, nice that there was a food court attached to the hotel so we didnt have to go out into the horrible weather unless we really wanted to. Alot of people also complained about the speed of the elevators, which couldnt really be helped. Parking was VERY expensive ($31 for the weekend) but that's to be expected for a downtown con.

Panels: There really wasnt all that much to choose from that looked interesting. The poor voice actors from IY seemed to be all over the place, doing a panel or signing at least once a day. I also saw a few panels that werent in the program, such as the Anime Club summit (10am Saturday, I believe). There STILL was nothing to do opposite the cosplay. *shrug*

Overall: This con was good. Not great, but good. I spent a lot of time talking to other guests, but I cant fault the con completely for my occasional lack of interesting things to do. Your mileage may vary.

Grade: B+

Buwaha. Well, my friends and I are proud to have scared you ^_~. You were the Video-Camera-Vash earlier around the Registration lines, too, ne? -Amused-.

All the people who talked to me who were non congoers were all adults who looked scared. oo;. Well. OhayoCon proved one thing. Religious nutcases and anime otaku can exist in the same place in harmony.

As long as the religious nutcases don't know what anime is fully...

The next Media Play anime club's next month. The dorks haven't set up a date as of yet. Though if you go, beware: There's LOTS of DBZ-fantic-obsessee types that go to it, and obsess over DBZ the whole time. The art contest had five drawings from DBZ even ><;.

Hee. I don't know exactly where Oregon is, but I went to a friend of a friend's house ages ago in Oregon to watch the Super Bowl one year with my dad XD.

I'm not off topic. I swears. I swears.

This was my 3rd Ohayocon. To tell u the truth all the memories I could recolect were just as good as this one. I always start my year off with this con because I always know i am going to have an awesome time. I love staff at this con, unlike other cons. I really liked the hotel this year. hmm.. but hell I liked the other 2 hotels too. I had a great time participating in game shows and the masquarade. Game shows rocked! Corey did an exellent job!! Open mic was pretty fun also. Thanks to all the tech people. *huggles* I think the most obvious mess up was the mics at the masquarade, but really, u just have to expect tech difficulties, it happends a lot at cons. I want to thank everyone new that I met and all other people I've known for years for making this con experience wonderful, especially since it was my first time going to a con on my own in 4 years. I wasn't sure if I could do well by myself without scott there, but everyone's kindness helped.

Hmmm....

If I'd not been to Otakon, I probably would have really liked Ohayo. As it was, Friday felt so...dead to me. There weren't many things I wanted to do/see, and I didn't really see many people around until after 7 PM.

Saturday was fun, though. Lots of costumes, much more energy. The Blood concert rocked.

The Masquerade was kinda crappy. There were only a few skits I enjoyed, and 90% of them I had no idea what was going on because they weren't using mics or the mics weren't working. That one guy's ass is still magical, though.

Biggest complaint: THE SMOKING! I'm asthmatic, so cigarette smoke makes me have an asthma attack (also gives me headaches and can make me nauseous) and to get ANYWHERE you had to walk through an area where people were smoking*sighs* Fortunately no smoking in the con rooms, but that one spot outside the elevators and stairs*sighs*

Pros:

- BLOOD concert kicked ass. I waited in line 6 hours a head of time with my friends so we could get to the front. Damn worth it. And the way the floor bounced o_o!
- I liked the location a lot better than last year!
- I personally believe the Yaoi panel went well. Interesting to hear everyone's opinions and ideas.
- The video rooms I went in were well run
- Eurobeat King
- Scott McNeil
- The 'Who's Line is it Anime' was hilarious
- The Kevin Lillard and Kiwamu collision was priceless...
- As was the looks on other convention participants' faces.
- My friends and I were interviewed for the Columbus Dispatch
- Donatos Pizza!

Cons:

- HORRIBLE organization as far as BLOOD was concerned on Sunday. Again, waited forever to see the Q&A panel but it met with problems concerning the translator. Not to mention allowing everyone to get up from their seats and create chaos when the make-up demostration started.
- What was with moving all the rooms around on Sunday??? That was confusing! :waaaah: And none of the staff in Con Ops had a CLUE what was going on.
- The Sunday schedule alterations were confusing too.
- The small dealers room provided problems in moving.
- The Jrock panels were so unorganized it hurt.
- I did the worst picture posing of my life XD I got ugly all over fansview and Eurobeat King's galleries. I'm pretending that wasn't me! *drips ugly*

I think that's all I have personally to comment on ^_^ I enjoyed my time at Ohayocon even if there were some moments of frustration with the staff.

...And I wish I could have seen this infamous Cosplay! I was too busy waiting in line for BLOOD XD ...Wonder if there was any video taping..?

The con rocked! This was my 3rd Ohayocon and just like life there are ups and downs. I liked the location the best then the previous. The video rooms had alot of good anime but I agree with skewedviews there should have been a room dedicated to a variety of music video's, especially a sweet metal hour! Friday I spent all my money in the dealer's room and had just enough for cajun food all weekend, Drinks were FREE! Saturday afternoon was the only time I noticed long lines and a pile of bags on the floor being scrumaged through in front of the dealer's room. Game room had lots of good games but needed more old school, could have been bigger and had better ventilation too. Didn't go to many panels this year mostly because of the schedule. Did make it to the hentai panel because it was canceled last year. Lets just just say if you like mutalation then you would have enjoyed it more than I did. Despite Tech. diff. cosplay was cool. Zappa, May, and Bridget from GG had best skit! Dont want to bash the Blood concert but.... think ill stop there Isis Ishtar :) seemed everyone had a good time though. Dance started off good then the zombie effect kicked in and just kind of drifted around the rest of the nite and sunday. All in all had a great time and met cool people. Just got turned on to this site and will be dressing up next year for cosplay. See everyone next year!!!!

Ok well it was only my second con, and first "real" anime / big con so I was really overwhelmed with just how many people were there and what there was to do. (I think I heard right about 2,700 fans were mentioned in the closing ceremonies).
I tend to write these huge book emcompassing posts but I'll try to keep it short :)

Pros:

Insane amount of people running everywhere ^^
Very cool cosplayers everywhere
Dealer's room was much bigger than the first small Sci-Fi con I went to. I just expected crowds so I didn't really find it overcrowded, even though there was not really room to walk around save for the corners. The CD I got I thought was slightly on the high side but for an import I guess it really wasn't unexpected.
The kind, excellent Drury Inn Hotel staff ^___^
The comfortable, spaceous Drury Inn beds!
The fast, uncramped Drury Inn elevators ^___^ No I'm not saying our hotel was the best or the others were horrible but I liked it! (Although I felt the Hyatt's elevators were fast, this was mid-Sunday afternoon when no one was there. I could imagine how it was for those poor cosplayers having to go down 20 floors and stopping at every floor on the way down) :(
Excellent art relocation on Saturday (Friday was a bit obscure but not impossible to find).
Open mic night was very funny and Anime Hell was hilarious!
Game room was good fun (again expected crowdedness and lines) although I wasn't in line for any DDR. Stuck to mainly GC Soul Calibur II and SSBM, but I felt it offered enough of an amount of TVs, for most of the time atleast.
The Staff that overall tried to make an excellent con go smoothly even with some problems and tons of people.
Food court! That sub shop was good I thought and felt it totally great to eat without having to resort to hotel room junk or head outside to get some food.

Cons:

Everything you wanted to do going on all at once. Guess that's just how it works though.
Some security staff because I had several different answers to questions I had and that got confusing.
Game room BO sorta well...made it's presence known after the DDR playing, tolerable but not prefered o.O

Then again I try to remain mindful of what's going on and don't tend to really get angry at most anything ^_~
Overall this was my first huge con so I can't compare it to anything but I still found more than enough to do, play, listen to, and had a GREAT time meeting sweet cosplayers!

EUROBEAT ROCKS!

Haha the church people were *****soooooo****** nice to us! Expecially when the only elevator I could get on at one point was full of three of the church elders, who clsed the doors because they didn't want "any of those people" in their elevator. bitches -_-

Con was good. Blood was neat. Cosplay contest was pitiful, no offense.

con gets.... a B!

 I enjoyed this last con...The staff never bothered us, and I got to hang out with the best people. For my first con, this was the BEST! I even hooked up with someone, the sweetest guy I've ever met..It was the greatest weekend of my life.
Crappy part was was that I missed Blood play..how sad...T-T
:sulk: Second day was crappy.. Then our sweet Saionji cheered me up. Yes, I rate this con an A!!!! ^_^

Ohayocon was a blast! I'm finally home... after being snowed in at the Hyatt. I was lucky enough to take the guest limo there and back with my friends. So we also had to wait for them to take the guests to the hotel. We didn't leave Columbus until 6, and because of this horrible accident on I-71, that left the roads closed (chemical spill with a truck)... we were in the car for 6 hours! AGH.

Anyway... it was so much fun! I met so many awesome people. I spent most of my time at the con socializing and just wearing my costumes and having fun. I have to say this has been the most fun, if not the most interesting con I've ever been to. ^^ Despite a few downfalls, like loosing my camera, and being completely snowed in... it was absolutely awesome. =) Everyone was great, so nice, and wonderful. A great way to start off the convention year! w00t! =D

Well, this was my first con *EVAH* so I was pretty impressed. It wasn't as big as I thought it would be, but I guess it would have been a whole lot cooler if I could have gone on Saturday like originally planned and gotten to participate in all the events. Oh well, at least I got to make it there on Sunday, and I had a great time. I was the "Lilac Lolita" Chii if anyone saw me. (I'm getting my pics developed so they will be up sooner or later)

Anyways, overall, thought it was pretty cool, although it was pretty hard to find where the autograph signings were on Sunday afternoon. I'm totally looking forward to next year!!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed the game room. Yes, the DDR funk was lovely.
What more would people liked to have seen in the game room? Could try to take some suggestions possibly for next year.

Apologies to those, who did or didn't get to enter the Tekken Tag Tournament, Tournament, I ran it at the last minute. And tried the best I could with it.

Cosplay Wars was pretty funny.. and Red vs Blue.

Accident on I-71 sucked, but nothing will beat the Limo ride home. :D
Jpop and Porn, woohoo.

I made sure that there were some good dojin games and other movies for the room. I'm glad it came off well, just wished I had a flatscreen...

Hey all,

I'm on OhayoStaff and thought I might try to explain some of the reasons for some of the stuff that you guys had gripes about. I feel alot of times attendees deserve the rights to why some decisions are made for the cons... This is in response to everything here so I apologize in advance for this being long...

Hotels - We have gotten ALOT of complaints especially about the Hyatt and their security. A lot of room parties were broken up, etc. Please keep in mind we cannot control the hotels. You always have a chance of any hotel messing up your reservations and whatnot. Also some hotels are more anal than others regarding noise and parties. If you are someone who had problems with the Hyatt, I would highly recommend the Drury. It is connected to the con center via heated skywalk and I heard nothing but good reviews of it throughout the weekend. My grp stayed at the Crowne which also was nice but it is connected via Un-heated skywalk which i grew to hate very quickly...

Dealers Room Size - This has been taken into note. Our dealer's head mentioned during con gripe that the room nearly doubled in size from last year and we had (i believe) less dealers than last year too which was supposed to help the problems from last year. I do feel it was much better but we will be trying for a room that is bigger yet again for next year.

Dealers Room & Food - This is not something we can help and probably won't be able to help for next year either. The con center has has an exclusive contract with Aramak regarding food sales. ANY sale of food which could possibly compete with their food sales is strictly prohibited. this is why we can't have any food sold in the dealers room. We do apologize but its something thats not negotiable with them. You will notice this kind of thing at many cons that are in places like convention centers. I know otakon has this problem too.

Dealers Room & Prices/Merchandise - This is something we don't control either. We invite the dealers and charge them a set fee or whatnot... they set all their own prices and decide what items to bring with them from their stores and we cant control that. They probably have their own reasons for it if it was indeed higher than normal but you would have to question the dealers individualy. If you contact them you could mention the variety thing too and request stuff as well possibly.

Dealers Room & Security - We have a set policy regarding allowing large duffel bags and purses into the dealers room. We have had problems in the past regarding theft in the dealers room and we try to do everything we can to prevent it. You may not have intention of stealin anything when you bring in a large purse but others might. If your bag/purse is deemed too large then you WILL be asked to leave it outside. We are not liable for what is left outside but only Staff are allowed to be outside the doors not gophers so they are more reliable. If your bag is too big you can simply take ur money & valuables out and bring them in with you. The best idea is to simply bring a small bag with you for when your going into the dealers room and plan on not being able to take it in.

Multiple Conventions in Con Center - Unfortunately we are not big enough to take up the entire convention center. We picked days at the con center that are good for the con and whantot and in order for the con center to make the most profit they are going to schedule as many things as they can to make money. Eventually we might be big enough that we'll take up the whole thing if we stay there but in the meantime theres not much we can do. Most of the time its not a problem just ppl having to explain why they are dressed that way. The funniest thing i ever witnessed was being part of the group standing out in the line that wrapped around the baltimore convention center for otakon reg, in the rain...all while ppl were driving by on their way to work staring at us... things like that are always going to happen and the best thing to do is get a good laugh out of it...

Panels & Workshops - Some say good, some say bad.. some say not enough... etc... Some Panels/WS are run by guests of the con but most are run by just fans like you. If you don't see one you're interested in then email ohayocon and say you're interested in doing one and you can become a panelist. Thats the best thing i can say. As I'm a head of programmign for two cons we are almost always looking for new ideas for panels and people to do them.

Video Rooms - We do try to have many so that there is a great variety for the attendees. We will be trying to have more rooms for panels and workshops though. We were supposed to have 3 panels/workshops rooms but there were some last-minute changes with the hotel/con center that should be fixed by next year.

Game room - we are trying to move DDR into its own room next year. This will cut down on people in one room and the BO. We are also considering fans for circulation of air.

Cosplay Winners - I personally don't know too much about the whole ppl winning multiple awards thing, so I won't speak on that. However, regarding the staff not being able to win.... it is Ohayocon policy that NO staff may enter to win any Ohayo event where prizes/trophies can be won such as Cosplay, AMV Contest & Video Gaming Contests. You can enter the cosplay to do a skit for the heck of it but you will NOT be eligible to win. This is similar to like sweepstakes of companies when they say employees and immediate family not eligible. The contests are for our attendees not our staff and this rule has always been in place during Ohayo history. If you look hard most other cons have similar rules as well.

Cosplay & Audio - We have acknowledged that it was near impossible to hear during cosplay. From what ive heard there was miscommunication on whether we were getting wireless mics or not so i believe there was a limited supply of wired ones. We will be getting wireless mics for next year hopefully so that should be taken care of.

Changing of rooms - There was a big problem with the hotel changing rooms on us during the last week of the con which is why rooms moved during the con. This hopefully will be fixed for next year but we did the best we could with the last minute changes. We did have signs for most rooms and the correct room maps were in your program guide insert.

Karaoke - I can speak on this since i was one of the hosts during Karaoke. We use the equipment we have because of choice. Many many attendees who wish to do karaoke dont always know the songs that well and like singing with the original artist. But by doing it the way we do, if you wish to do "real karaoke" you can always bring a cd (or if we're lucky we'll have the track for you) with a song that is karaoke-style and perform it. We do it this way to make the majority of the attendees happy and so far its worked.

DDR Tournament - The system was odd because it was supposed to be different. My boyfriend ran the ddr tournament and he was aiming to be very different than the normal tournaments out there. There was a set formula to generate a total score which added up perfects, greats, goods, oks and took off for boos/misses, etc... For the most part, during the tourney, we heard nothing but good responses about it which im happy about ^_^

Art Show - Art Show was downstairs is McKinnley all weekend. A lot of people complained they couldnt find it and this will be adressed for next year.

Parking - First off, except it to be semi-high.. this is downtown columbus. Second, the best suggestion is to do some research.. the highest i heard was 31/day..i paid $19/day at the crowne with in/out privelages.. i also heard some were getting even cheaper with the drury... i head a few others parked further away but for like less than 10/day...

well thats in response to most of the stuff i saw on this thread.. hope this helps clear up some of the confusions and whatnot throughout the weekend ^_^

Hey, everyone. I was a craftsmanship judge for the cosplay and I wanted to clear up any misconceptions about "multiple winners."

First off, we could only do our best with what we had to work with. You guys probably didn't notice, but there was no journeyman catagory this year. Why? Because there were no journeymen! ^_^; Everyone was either a novice (it was a lot of people's first con) or masters. That made it hard, but we tried to spread the love around.

There are certain catagories which you'll find at most cons. Best of Show, of course, can go to anyone. Then there are the "division" awards. Best Novice and Masters Presentation, Best Novice and Masters Craftsmanship, Best Overall Craftsmanship (again, this can go to anyone), the Hall Costume awards, and the Judge's Awards.

Now, if anyone got multiple awards, it was probably because they received a "real" award and a judges award. The judges are allowed to give their special award to anyone they want. It can either go to a whole skit, or just certain members of a skit that stood out. For example, I gave my award to two girls who dressed as Nyan-Nyan in a skit which also had several other people dressed as different characters. Why did I just give it to those two girls? Because I like Nyan-Nyan! And there ya have it.

The only people I can think of who won "multiple awards" that weren't just judges' awards were the girls who cosplayed as Berserker Rikku and Yuna. They won Best of Weekend from the Hall Costume Judges (which I had nothing to do with) and Best Overall Craftsmanship from us. But they did it in different costumes. There is a rule at EVERY con that there is absolutely no exception to...and that is you cannot enter the same costume in the hall costume contest and the masquerade. They are two completely different animals. So these girls and their other friend won the Hall contest with fabulous costumes from the game Golden Sun, and then the masquerade craftsmanship for their Berserkers. They won because their costumes were awesome. Trust me, there's no conspiracy or anything ^_^ There were other awesome costumes all weekend (everytime I turned a corner, someone looked rad!), but these people stuck out in several ways. I guess you would have had to be there talking with them about how they made their costumes, but, seriously, you'd all be impressed.

So that's pretty much all I can think of! If anyone has any other questions about rules, awards, divisions, or anything like that, PM me and ask away! If there's anything I can't answer, I'll forward it on to my good friend who was the cosplay coordinator.

Just one suggestion for the karaoke. ^_^ I could hardly hear the music let alone myself when I was singing. I don't remember if a speaker was turned towards the stage or not, but if there wasn't, that would certainly help. @.@;

The water was very nice though! >.>

I couldn't hear people over the voice of the singer - come on - it's hard to out-sing Utada Hikaru! But you've got a point, having the voice gets more people involved.

There were 4 speakers and they were all towards the audience.. i can bring up a suggestion for haivng a speaker, still facing the audience, but back further on stage so u can hear the song better. We try not to do that so that our poor staff have eardrums in the morning. LOL we get very large headaches after karaoke esp after some of those j-rock songs lol

regarding the hearing the karaoke person.. thats just up to them to be more confident and sing louder... we'd turn the music down but then they wouldnt hear it either

over all it was a good con, and i do understand that the con has very little controll over hotel sercuity and what not. So if you know you're being loud, try to accept the consequences. It was funny though that a party i went to got broken up, the guy next door looked out in his robe and shook his head at me with his bed hair as if to say "shame shame on you guys". An image to remember. The besker costumes so VERY aswome.

I want to hear more feed back from the hentai panel, my boyfriend sadly couldn't stomach it and like a couple other people left the room. I thought it was pretty neat that the guy who ran the panel decided to show the more sadistic side of hentai and what message boards you could discuss this on (this made cool divices look like hamtaru). It was also cute seeing some boys who freshly turned 18 and were all excited about the hentai panel, ooo-ing and ahhh-ing over some of the mangas being passed around.

I thought that Ohayocon was really awesome. Even tho this was my first con and and didnt cosplay (due to a bad bank teller) but anyway... I only went on saturday tho. It was kinda boring cause all the cosplayers went to the skits and stuff so i had no one to take pictures of. But the dealers room was crazy there was no room in there. ALthough i wish the cds were cheaper. that kind of upset me. So next year i should have 3 costumes. Prolly Gackt, Cloud, and some other FF character.

The Dealer room. ..ugh. .awful. .it was sooo crowded you could barily walk arround and when you did stop because the people in front of you stoped because the people infront of them stoped and so one the people behind you would either push you arround or yell at you and there was really nothing you could do. . . but I did end up spending all my money there ^^ Had some awsome stuff there even though it was quit packed.

actually, I didn't think the dealers room was as bad as last year. Last year I couldn't move at all and this year I only had trouble around the j-rock table (which is where I usually wanted to stop anyways, so it didn't upset me that much).

Scwee! I'll definitly watch next year (or if I happen to be at another con you guys go to). I have no idea where I was Friday night, but I didn't hear it at all! Being my third convention, it was pretty good. The hotel staff was mean though! They made me take my kendo back to my room, not fair at all. The game room was fun (DDR competition!) the dealers room was cool but pretty cramped, I felt like I was in a line to walk around the room. It was pretty good like I said, I hope next years is even better.
