There's a site that may be able to help you (though I've never done any of it...I just went to google and found a link)

i use adobe premier 6.0 or if you have windows XP you can use Windows Movie maker

Adobe is a little bit more advanced, Windows is very easy to use

Adobe After Effects is boss for special effects. Premier is very good for initial editing. And whatever you need to do to get all that tasty footage into your computer in the first place.

I've made an AMV... it's a lot of work but well worth it when you stick to it.

What a basically used SmartRipper and DVD2AVI for ripping the anime I wanted to use, and then used Virtual Dub for clipping and putting it together.. I tried adobe premier but I just don't understand it... :( I then used Camasta producer to put in the beginning and ending title screens ^^

Ulead movie maker (no sure the name was correct or not)
u can put some effect, title (words move over the screen) and add in music.

Well, I made AMVs for 4 or 5 years, and still no award only honorable mentions. I used Adobe Premiere 6.0 (I really don't like 6.5), mix with Photoshop. Right now, I need to learn After Effect for my next video... Which is another Eminem AMV.... Trust me, it's going to be more F***ed up that my last Eminem video..

If you guys need help with Premiere, I can sort of help...

Sami, why don't you start off by telling us what kind of computer you have? What operating system do you run? Do you have any of the software mentioned in any of these posts? If not, do you know anyone you could "borrow" the software from?

All you really need to make an AMV is the raw material (the anime and the music), a way to get them into your computer (I can't help you there, I've only ever done it on a Mac, either with the kickass equipment in my Premier class or here at home with my excessively expensive hardware), and then the software to manipulate it.

If you have lack of funds, I've made rather good videos with Windows Movie Maker alone... I think everyone should be forced to start with it, because all you can do is time your footage and fade out... it makes you learn how to properly do the basics before you start playing around. if your anime is in avi, you just have to import it in. If it's on DVD, there are programs you can download that have already been mentioned.

I wish I had all these fancy tools when I was in school. I used to do my videos low-tek style. Plug lazer disc into vcr video and cd player into audio inputs and just pause and play.
We did a really cool Akira video using the Who's "Teenage wasteland" song that way for a art show.

ARRG! Baka Neko, you said it before I could!
But yeah I highly reccomend animemusicvideos.org for any and all help you will ever need in making an AMV. Take it from me, I've been a member of that site for almost 2 years now and they have all the info! ^_~

i've made videos that have won at conventions.

the setup i use is simple.
adobe premiere and a whole lot of free time.

i dont use after effects...
AE can most of the time be replaced with Photoshoping still images... but that's my cut corners.

any more questions, feel free to ask.

note: please BUY your footage... if you plan on ripping a dvd.
