Just wondering if the higher-ups here at cosplay.com have had any talks with the people at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3, for the cool people), on a possible masquerade or other cosplay events. I'll be there (Not cosplaying, but on the staff of the site I work for) and it would be AWESOME to see some cosplay.com represented. I think this would be a really cool opportunity for everyone.

I believe that E3 is an industry con and any "cosplayers" that are there are usually hired by the companies attending.

Also it's not an "open" event where anyone can register to go in, you have to have some contact in the related field to attend. I'm not saying it's impossible to attend, but you can't just go up to the front door and buy a registration. :)

However, I could be *totally* wrong in this matter. :)

I know that. And it isn't open to the public - you have to be a member of the gaming media like I am in order to get in. That's why I was thinking it could be something like G4...the E3 people could ask cosplayers to audition, and have a masquerade...or something. Since cosplay has become much larger and more popular in the past couple of years, I really think this is something E3 can't pass up.

I have been to E3 twice. It isn't like anime cons, and really has nothing for cosplayers to do. There is absolutely zero emphasis on cosplay other than the booth models. It's more of a business convention even if it is all video games.

Not to trounce all over your idea, I just don't think E3 is going to be receptive. Those guys are 10 times busier than an anime con would be and probably wouldn't have time for it.

Eh, you're probably right. Still, it WOULD rock if they considered it.
Are you going again this year psythe? Maybe we can meet up somewhere!

Probably not this year, but next year definitely. Next year is when the new consoles should be introduced, so I won't want to miss that one. =)

Actually, rumor is that Nintendo's new console (codenamed the "N5") could be debuting THIS YEAR. Not to mention their new handheld system, the DS.

Either way, the Big N will probably have a strong showing this year.
(Nintendo fanboy, i confess!)

I am a booth model at E3 and I must say that the majority of the people that run E3 are a bit Well. L337. They don't even like cosplay, and I know my boss at Game Shark even makes fun of them.

I think there's zero chance of that happening. E3 is about the games, not the fandom. You don't dress up unless you've been payed to do so. "Cosplaying" would be frowned upon at such an industry event, and it would only reflect badly upon our community of we tried to push it upon theirs.

The exception, of course, being Tokyo Game Show and it's Japanese ilk. ^_^

Well said, and all too true.

I am going to e3 out of costume. After much consideration I decided that yes, its best not to cosplay there. Cherry is right. The only way I would dress up there is if it was socialy exceptable. I am no E3 booth babe and it would be stupid to "compete" with these goregous women (like miss Cherry). Still do you think it would be taboo to bring along some cat ears to wear if I get the urge? I am mainly curious who else in the gaming industry(like myself) will be attending. I know that it is reservation only. ( I already got my e-mail and my barcode) and you cant just walk in. but, maybe some of us cosplay ppl could meet up and chat at one of the booths?

Well, looks like there will be cosplayers at E3 after all!

check out anzaphrodite's topic for more info - this is going to rock!

Oh, and Assninja, if you want to meet somewhere, give me a PM. We can meet at a certain time at the 1up.com booth, (Where Rebecca, Chrissy, Gina, and the other E3 cosplayers will be.)

Doubtful. Although I wish they'd replay G-Phoria just for the KH Skit and Masquerade they had - the rest of the show was pretty awful.

Ok just to clarify Quantum9's comment. The cosplayers in that thread are being invited and is working for a booth. It's not just showing up at E3 in a costume and wandering around.

Minor difference, but just wanted to make sure it was clear. :)

yeah I will meet up with you guys...but when exactly will you all be there?

I'll be there... I'm not sure which is the more official capacity I'm going in tho. o_O My company has decided to send all our game engineers but I'm also going to work for the 1up.com booth.

Like people have said, E3 is an industry con. You go to make connections, attend talks, see the latest and greatest, and see what the competition is doing for the next year. I don't think cosplaying unless you're there in an official capacity to do so is a good idea.

I'll see y'all there in a week. =)

i was asked to go as Link, and work there for some hours, and i would get tickets to all the days, and i could work there anyday i want to...but sad thing is i cant make it...its a non paying thing and it would cost way too much in gas and stuff like that to go that far... -_- *sigh* ...oh well i hope next year will work out..

and shigeru miyamoto would have been there, and ....yeah....i want to go so bad ;_;

I feel your pain, PikminLink. ;_; They aren't using talent this year, but offered for me to come anyway, but I wouldn't get jack paid for me. I was like "Well what is the point, then? ". E3 is all too comercialized now adays if you ask me. ;_;

WOW! E3 WAS AWESOME!!!

So glad I went, and I was glad to see you all there, Gina, Chrissy, Rebecca, you know who you are. ^_^

Nessa, you were there? Dangit, I wish I could have seen ya, but whatever.

Overall, everything was awesome. Square had a great booth, but I think Nintendo's was best, with all the new games, the DS, and of course, the Zelda we have ALL WANTED. I'm so excited.

Nice meeting you there Quantum9. E3 was pretty good this year and I liked the Square-Enix booth a lot. I was very lucky to watch the Square-Enix preview show even though the show was sold out. ^.^v We kinda talked our way in lol.

I've been to E3 three times and this was my fourth time but first time working there in costume. I've worked for Tokyopop in the past at E3 but not in costume. But yeah, everyone did such a great job, AznAphrodite did a fantastic job in organizing the event. Thanks again for doing this! :bigtu:

JUST A REMINDER TO ALL COSPLAYERS:
Some cosplayers were HIRED by Ziff Davis to promote their 1up.com booth at E3. We were not there to cosplay. We were there to work. Some non-1up.com cosplayers were spotted at E3 however. Please tell these kind folks that E3 is not a place to cosplay to unless you are specifically hired to do so. I want everyone to be clear that E3 is a industry event, not a fan event. If you attend E3 in costume without being hired by a company/booth, I am afraid that it could cause negative connotations when the term "cosplay" is reffered to. =/

Thank you.

I was also hired for the 1up.com booth to cosplay as Tidus on Wed. As the others who went have stated, unless your hired to dress up, don't! It will make negative connotations and that might make other companies look down on cosplay as well. E3 is NOT for dressing up cause you want to and go cosplay around the convention. Its a professional atmosphere @_@ I too spotted some people cosplaying that weren't hired by any booth, but they were wearing simple enough costumes that they could get away getting into E3 without them knowing.

And yes..E3 was very good this year with its line up of new games and systems coming out eventually. I overall liked the Square Enix and Nintendo booth.

Oh well, definitely next year. ^__^

I was at E3 on Friday, shooting a video report for 1KTV.com where I work. I had the pleasure of meeting several 1up.com cosplayers who were kind enough to tell me "we love 1KTV!" on camera.

Of course, this was before I found this place and learned what luminaries of the cosplay world they are. Thanks again, ladies!

Hey, I think PositiveSpace and I were among the cosplayers you talked to! We were dressed as Paine and Bloodrayne on Friday. I remember being taped and I think she had to do most of the talking cause of my retarded vampire teeth. ^^; How did it turn out anyways?

Oh sweet! I've been curious as to what happened to all the footage that was taped of us while we were working. I hope I didn't come off as a complete idiot. (Partial idiot is okay... it's when it's a complete thing that things get messy. LOL)

Any chance we'll get to see the footage?

The video came out great! Everyone in the office loved it. People were like, "look at her (AJ's) teeth!" I'm not sure which portions ended up being used on 1KTV, that was up to the Producers. You guys were the only cosplayers I encountered, I think everyone else I saw in costume was just a booth model. You guys didn't come off as idiots, you all seemed knowledgable and articulate and AznAphrodite was particularly enthusiastic. The ones who came off as idiots were the booth models who didn't know a thing about what they were promoting.
"So this is an online game?"
"Um, uh-huh."
"When is it coming out?"
"I dunno..."
The video footage was edited down to a tiny fraction of its original length for my convention report, but even as an MPG, it is like 160 MB. I'll see if I can get a clip of your segment, or setup temporary access to the FTP server, but I'll have to PM you about it, as it wouldn't exactly be "work-related" to eat up the bandwidth on the company server.

Hopefully, we gave cosplayers a good name at E3! ^_^v

Hate bringing this topic back from the dead...but, I wanted too, so phooey. ^^

Anyway, just to echo what people said, I agree that cosplaying should not be allowed at E3 unless it's by people specifically there to do it. The 1up.com people were very fun and nice to meet and other people being there just would have taken away from that. If you want to wear neko ears or a Naruto headband or something, that's fine - just not a full costume. Remember that the games are the real reason we're there people.

The real reason I brought this topic back is this - are there any rumblings for cosplayers to come back in 2005?
