View Full Version : Marvel Cosplay Chat

We need to get some more comic cosplay love going!

What Marvel character is everyone working on? If you're not, what Marvel characters would you like to be working on? Why'd you pick that character(s)? Let's chat about our comic cosplays. =)

I'm not currently working on a Marvel character, but both Hepzibah and the Scarlet Witch are on my considered list for this upcoming year. Hepzibah because I've always thought she's an awesome, ass-kicking heroine, and the Scarlet Witch because, for some reason, I've always liked characters who have an amazing power in theory but a horrible one in effect, or who are so unable to use their power that it becomes a liability (see Rogue in my icon as well).

So how about you guys? there must be other comic nerds here somewhere!

I did Iron Man this summer, and my sister did a last minute thrown together Scarlet Witch for halloween.

My next possible Marvel cosplay might be Jubilee. Or maybe fem!Hawkeye. Not sure.

I'm working on a 1960s Agent of SHIELD era Nick Fury for Emerald City Comic-Con. Generally speaking, I've always got a Marvel related project or two on the back burner.

Aliccolo and I are also working on rehaving our Black Widow costume and adding a Yelena Belova Widow to our lineup. We're currently debating who should be Natasha and who should be Yelena, but we think it would make for an awesome photoshoot. ;)

I'm (going to be) working on a classic white suit Kingpin. Why?Because He'S the prime mob boss in the most densely hero-populated city on Earth-616.That takes balls of adamantium.

And the suit.I think I'm gonna cosplay Kingpin for weeks on end just to wear that suit.

And he's one of the few Marvel character with my build

I'm going as Black Widow to the Birmingham MCM Expo next year. I'm hoping to go to the London one too.

So far it's going well: I have the catsuit, the wig, the boots and I just have to spray paint the Widow's Bite bracelets which I made out of a bullet belt from a fancy dress store. Still working on her belts and guns and I need to sew SHIELD patches on.

For my first superhero cosplay, it's going pretty well! I'm excited!

I've been looking for a Marvel character that I could pull off for a while now. There's a few characters I really like but the whole skin tight costume thing is a very very bad idea for me and as I had to put it to my friend I would not feel comfortable wearing one or way too much armor there's not much chance I'd actually fit in it ha ha ha. But didn't let that stop me. I'm looking into doing Sandman.

The hubby and I are probably going to do a Wasp and Yellow Jacket duo cosplay. I think he'd rather do Ant-Man, but the coordinating costumes are just TOO CUTE! Maybe I'll make him an Ant-Man on the side, since he's not very crafty and only helps with minor details/mass paintings.

Also, I'll be re-vamping Enchantress who I've worn a few times now, and the Task Master from the Deadpool Max! universe.

I WONDER WHAT COSTUMES? :P

Anywho:

Fraction/Aja's on-going Hawkeye series is the thing I dream of, where HAWKGUY gets new awesome outfits every other issue. I'm banging out at least 2 of them this year, in addition to perfecting the default modern costume, because that thing is clutch.

Deciding what version of Cyclops I wanna do next -either AVX SPOILERS- Dark Phoenix Scott, or that new NOW! costume. Time will tell.

Several of my southern east coast palz want to do an X-factor group, and I was voted to be Multiple Man. I ACCEPT THIS ROLE, because I <3 that book/Jamie. MY PALZ ARE GENERALLY RAD!

I'm also co-plotting a "Secret Identities" shoot of sort w/ a photog friend. As a NYC resident, I plan of using my city for the backdrop of hopefully something awesome.

I'm working on Toni Stark and Steph Rogers, because I'm not letting a silly thing like being a woman stop me from being Iron Man *and* Captain America. :D I'm only building the arc reactor and one armored gauntlet, so the hardest part of the Toni Stark project is putting on a little muscle through the shoulders and arms. That's for Emerald City Comicon, and Cap is for some later (indeterminate) event.

The new Hawkeye on-going gets me right in the feels. It's so good. So very, very good.

The roster for the X-Factor team is Jamie Madrox, Layla Miller, Rictor, Shatterstar, Siryn (sadly only for Heroescon), and hopefully a Strong Guy for NYCC. It all depends on who's going to what con, etc.

Semi-related, went to MAGfest this weekend and met the BEST Cable cosplayer. Dude was HUGE and had an amazing costume.

I can't really say I'm into comics so much, but I'm trying to get more into them. I just don't know where to start. But due to Metro-con I was curious of Journey into Mystery so Kid!Loki is on my list of characters to cosplay while cosplay-wise I've cosplayed this for Mega-con this year and the next con I'll do it is AnimeBoston:

The image was taken by someone at the con, and honestly love it since half of the time people caught me when I didn't realize the "sash" "belt" was wrong. But it was a fan-art for this picture and would LOVE to complete the fan-art one day to show it to the artist.

Valid confusion is valid.

Marvel has a digital service called "Marvel Comics Unlimited" which is pretty much EVERY comic they published up to last November. It's like $60 a year, buy well worth it, as you can read all of JiM for less than it would cost you to buy it in trade.

It feels kinda weird NOT to be working on anything at the moment Marvel wise. Granted a back quiver for Clint would be nice, not to mention a collapsable bow, I'm relatively fine on the costume front. Hell all I need for Jamie is a t-shirt and that's done.

I had a hard time getting into the ridiculously complex world of Marvel comics, but then the new Hawkeye happened. I regret nothing!

It's pretty cool that there's a Marvel forum to hang out in. I might start work on a Kate Bishop costume for next year, but in the meantime I think I'm going to make Hawkeye's motorcycle-style jacket. Just to wear around and be awesome.

Marvel NOW! really made it simple to jump into Marvel stuffs, although Marvel in general has been easier to get into than DC. At least in my opinion. Hawkeye, a series I am obviously a huge fan of, is one of those books I recommend to people who want to get into Marvel, because it is great. So great, So great at boats even.

I'm not sure who buys comics on a weekly basis aside from me, but damn, solid all-Marvel pull week for me. All New X-men, XM: Battle of the Atom, and Superior Foes of Spider-man were all fantastic.

Hey everyone!

I just made my first ever cosplay appearance as Deadpool.
The reason I wanted to do Deadpool was:
1) I like all the weapons he carries
2) His fun and sarcastic attitude was ideal for a fun YouTube video I was going (and did) shoot
3) I really wanted to make a more realistic/military version of Deadpool
4) There was no way I was wearing essentially a spandex onesie

I plan to work on the realistic concept for future events and keep evolving towards a more practical/bad-ass design.

Hey guys!

I'm getting into Marvel cosplay as part of a new year's resolution, and my first project right now is Kitty Pryde's Excalibur outfit, since the classic yellow and black outfit is a little daunting to someone with very little sewing experiance, and Excalibur is just a really fun comic series. Then I might do Lady Deathstrikes new look next. Cant decide which one to wear to Wonder Con. Probably will be Monet, she's pretty awesome, and does not get a lot of cosplay. It's funny because her costume looks so much like Rogue's, just black and white......probably why they changed it up in issue #009.....which I might do as well for Wonder Con. ^_^ Everyone's costumes and works in progress look wonderful btw!

I want to do deadpool as my first cosplay, hopefully Dallas. I'm going to do the Lycra/spandex/zen tai suit but the rest I want to try to make myself. I just love deadpool, he fits my style comedy and being a person with adult ADD and being in the military and possibly being medically discharged I can kind of relate to him in a way. Or maybe it's just me lol, I just need to lose my guy and get back in shape, been slacking.

Yes! She's definitely a cutie. I got the costume concept cover because I thought it was a super cool potential redesign. It's very young while still being definitely Ms. Marvel. I hope the real thing is somewhat similar!

So guys, I've been wanting to try my hand at Sabretooth ever since one of my friends in our superhero costuming group said I'd pull it off. Thing is, I'm not entirely sure how to make his collar and attach it to his outfit.

mm ok ^^
so by collar do you mean his necklace?
http://marvelcomic.pl/bios/sabretooth_%5Bultimate%5D//sabretooth_%5Bultimate%5D_17.jpg
cause it looks like it's jsut a white muscle shirt :3

his necklace you can get interpretive; is it rocks or fangs?
I'd say get some good leather cord probably some big giant giant organic looking beads, (or sculpey and sculpt them yourself, punching holes in your beads as you go with a pin/tube of some sort the right size for your cord) and string it, tie off the end, wooo done oh and don't forget the dogtags on the end which you can probably find online ^^

My sister did Miss Martian which was an adventure basically:

- Expect to take more time to paint than you planned to. It takes forever
- Tights. Get them. saves time and effort.
http://www.welovecolors.com/Info/Colors.aspx#green
we love colors has some greens that might work depending on the shade your going for :3
- get the sealant and use it or else green everywhere D:

Hope this helps!

@Starsinthesky: Which character from Guardians? And it's great to see a fellow X-23/Deadpool fan! *high five*

I'm currently working on an Emma Frost cosplay, but the task is rather daunting since I have next to no sewing experience. I have had a lot of experienced sew-ers offer to help me, so one way or another, I'll get her done! Haha

Stars: I love Guardians! Ditto to Kirei: which character?

I'm working on Rocket Raccoon. The outfit will be easy. The face will not. I'm stuck between doing a full fur face or just painting my face/doing a fur hood with ears. I'm new to cosplay so the whole fur thing is daunting.

For a beginner, I'd go with the facepaint/ears option. Someone at Dragoncon did something similar for her Rocket Raccoon and it looked great. I'd save a full head until you have some experience. :D

The favorite facepaints around here seem to be Mehron and Ben Nye, but I love Snazaroo and Wolfe/Diamond FX. Where is the convention you're going to? Is it indoors or outdoors? What's the weather generally like? These things will all kind of affect what paint would be best for you.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself because I'm a big Marvel fan and this seems like the place for that. I'm going to be working on Angela for my first con next spring (Awesome Con in DC, although I live in Massachusetts, myself), and I'll also probably throw together a Leah of Hel from Journey Into Mystery and Young Avengers, and probably also a Kate Bishop because, why not?

Journey Into Mystery or MCU Lady Sif is also on my list, probably for the following year because I feel like one armor-heavy costume at a time. I'd also love to do a crossplay Winter Soldier but I feel like it's more fun to do costumes a little off the beaten path (hence, Angela).

Hello! I'm relatively new to comic costuming, but I'm diving into it headfirst after getting hooked on a bunch of comics over the last year. Currently planning costumes for debut at DragonCon 2015, because I want to give myself time to work on them.

Lorna Dane (Polaris) from the All New X-Factor. Aiming to do her Serval Industries Uniform - which is either bright yellow, black, and tan, or bright yellow, black, and medium gray... it depends on who is coloring her at the time, much to my frustration. I'm leaning towards the medium gray at this point, because the Serval Industries website (meta fiction website to promote the new comic) is all gray, yellow, white, and black...

Loki: Agent of Asgard. His full outfit from the relatively new Marvel comic series. Not quite adult Loki, not quite MCU Loki, sort of adventurous teen Loki. Actually looking forward to working with this, since it'll be a relatively simple initial armor build.

Definitely go with the medium grey. I think the tan colour might just be a lighting quirk? Either way, the grey just looks better.

Also, it's super exciting to hear about someone doing an ANXF cosplay. I hope it goes well!

I'm cosplaying Quentin Quire at Supanova in Brisbane this year - JGS uniform on the first day, and future Phoenix costume on the second. I'm still trying to decide between the costume shown in Battle of the Atom and the slightly different one from the current run of Wolverine and the X-Men (I'm leaning towards the latter, though, because I like the jacket design more).

Love the All New X-Factor! I think it's the only good costume poor Quicksilver has ever had. Got a half-body cover of him at Special Edition, hope to get it colored at NYCC. Definitely prefer the gray.

Thanks for the affirmation that it is a gray material - I was not sure which way to go with it. I had ordered swatches of khaki, previously, only to look closer and realize just how often the gray is shown - the new swatches should arrive tomorrow, I think.

I'm really looking forward to doing this costume - I think of all the ones I have planned, this is the one I'm most excited about. :) I adore ANXF (the latest issue had me laughing out loud several times), and the uniform designs for the team just call to me something fierce. I knew as soon as I saw it I needed to do that costume. Now if only I could convince my husband to dress as Gambit to go along with me...

I'll likely create a separate thread to house all the WIP things related to it, as opposed to filling this thread.

My first instinct is to paint them on, but I have no idea what paint to use for that. I know i like the look of that shiny gold paint i've seen some Carols use but IDK what it is. Or if theres a smarter alt. then painting.

Any suggestions?
