Friday is always the best day. You should definately go for at least Friday and Saturday.

I'm going. I'm even on staff. You should be on staff. It's fun. Send me a message if you're interested in being on staff! You know you are. Don't deny it.

I'm definitely going.

I'm gonna be going there for free anyway, seeing as how I won last year's DDR tournament. =)

When is the next Anime USA?
I'm sure I could just go to the website and find out, but I'm lazy
I was seriously contemplating signing up for the gopher work, but it all depends on whether or not I can go at all.
We'll see!

Chrissy - Yeah, it is very tiny but still a lot of fun. Just make sure you know people there that you can hang out with before hand. Otherwise, it could be a bit boring as there really isn't that many exciting events at this con. But its a really relaxing con and its easier to meet people and get to know them better than the other MD/VA cons.

I might be going again this year. No idea really. Too early in the year to know. I might even consider volunteering. lol But I don't think I could go to both this and Neko as they're rather close together time-wise. Probably all depends on what con peeps at my college (I start up in the Fall) will want to go to more since I won't have a car. lol

Course I'm going! haha I actually live pretty close so I won't have to drive for hours like Otakon this time. Its so awsome living in Virgina! There's like about 6 con's around here XD!!

Yay AUSA! I like the small cons, always meet really nice people and forget to give them my email address. Always run into someone I haven't seen in years there.

Haven't thought about costumes yet.

so i'm thinking about going but I'm afraid it might be a little too small for my taste perhaps. I don't really know anything about animeusa thou. can anyone give me some more details on what animeusa has been like in previous years? the website doesn't give me much of an idea to go off of. i've only been to anime next, katsucon, and otakon. a comparison would be appreciated if possible. thanks to anyone who responds. ^^ I may go just to check it out but I'd like at least an idea of what it's strong points are.

Edit:Well I was looking around at pictures on the web from animeusa n it looks fun so perhaps I shall attend and steal some friends to come with. Still would like some opinions/info on it thou if anyone would be so kind. What are the events like n the cosplay? What should I not miss?

I asked my mom about a con in the fall and she said to ask her later because its too far ahead but this one looks very good since its not that far from DC so she can go sightsee again like she did for Katsucon ^O^!!

I posted again and I just noticed I started this thread a long time ago lol xD;

I should be there, since it has two things going for me. Not only is it only 30 minutes away from where I live, but Saturday of the con is my birthday. ^_^ (October 30) Hurray for being 23! A completely useless age!

Maybe I'll actually make a new costume this year! *gasp*

Hehe I'd be on staff but then I wouldn't have time to run around and be my crazy hyper cosplaying self ;;. But maybe I will...........maybe........

Btw AUSA starts the day after my 17th bday *O*. Go people who have bdays that weekend!! Lol ^_^.

It's not really a small convention. They had almost 2,000 people last year and they expect almost twice that many this year. I think that misconception comes from the fact that the convention is in one of Virginia's largest luxury hotels and the 40 foot ceilings make it so it never feels cramped. I remember the days when a 4,000 person convention was considered large. I must be getting old....

Darxim
05-30-2004, 11:55 PM
We're not expecting twice as many people this year. Our target number for this year is 2000 (not counting staff, dealers, guests, etc).

It's true that it never feels cramped, though. Anime USA gets better every year.

This has nothing to do with AUSA but hotshot try going to this site:

Anyway, my friends and I are plotting to go to AnimeUSA!! Nekocon is just way too far, AUSA is as I said the day after my birthday and um yea its small!! So booyah!

I'm actually kinda considering going to AnimeUSA this year. As I dont drive (not even dont have a car... I'm 23 and don't even have a license!!!) how accessible is the con via public transportation? I see that there are mass transit directions on the website, but how is it taking public transit down there? Am I bound to run into any difficulties? etc. etc. etc. or would I be better off taking a cab or something from wherever I would wind up either taking Amtrak or Greyhound to?

marronsama
06-28-2004, 09:56 AM
Like most things in the DC area the mass transit tends to be very good. Just keep in mind that this is a HIGH TRAFFIC area around the capital so give some time to get around. I am not sure where the terminals would be for people coming in from Philly so i am not quite sure where you would pick up the local transit system. But, it is very good. I come from NY and do drive there, but when i go out from the con, i have taken mass transit without difficulty myself.

I'm planning to go... I'm not sure if any other members of the Pyreflies will be there but I know I'm trying to go. My debut costume for this con will be my Kuja. But other than that since ive never been to this con ill prolly wear my seymour and anji. (ill also prolly end up wearing lucifer for a little bit in order to get it judged for a hall cosplay, im not lettin that thing get away with some kind of recognition it took me forever XD ) So, I hope to see and meet some new ppl there.

to comment on this just makes me want to go to AUSA even more, because I prefer smaller cons most of the time, as its easier to get around and have more of a chance to get to talk to people. ^_^

marronsama
06-28-2004, 12:48 PM
i will be surprised by extremely high numbers, mainly because nekocon is in the same region and only a week later. Personally, i am excited to go to both, since one is small and the other is large and you can get a good feel for different types of cons that way.

Sorahana
06-29-2004, 12:14 PM
I prefer smaller cons because you can meet more people and move around. After AnimeNext, I realized that o_O;. Otakon is gonna be huge -_- so I need a smaller con afterwards because next year is too long until another con lol xD. But anyway, my thread still lives on.....yes *_*.

I may enter hall cosplay but I doubt it xD. My costumes suck ^^;. I'm debuting Black Mage Rikku I think since I haven't worn it to a con yet xD. Sop um yea thats all I think. And also it starts the day after my birthday so thats another reason I wanna go (it'll be my bday present lol).

I'll be following my pluto to Anime USa, and the best part about it is the cheap pre-reg and good hotel rates. I'm sure the con itself will be the best part once I actually go. This is my first year at AUSA.

Dude it starts on my b-day, how can I miss a chance like that?
I'm going, I get to go free 'casuse it be my b-day and I have wonderful friends who are paying. I'll probably be Rikku, but I'll also be Pudding from Tokyo Mew Mew...it was the least I could do for my friends who are paying, so I'll be cute and hyper and I'll match them. I really want to have my Sesshomaru costume done by then, but I'm lazy so I probably won't.

PARTY NIGHT WH00! Yea I know the feeling of driving home on Sat. night. For AnimeNext and for BAAF we had to leave on Saturday night and I cried when I got home both times, really sad because you miss stuff ^^;.

I don't believe in party-ing. ^_~ I'm one of those rare sorts that would rather be sitting quietly in bed with a copy of John Milton, rather than be out embibing alcohol. So the whole "party night" thing holds no appeal to me. LOL.

But we'll probably stay for Sunday. Might as well get our money's worth. ^_^

I don't drink alcohol, but I still enjoy myself a good party. Maybe I'd prefer staying at home playing video games to it. I do prefer Florida navel oranges to every other food on the planet, but I eat a lot of other foods. So, yeah, that kinda works as an analogy.

Same here, pretty much given up the drunken mayhem of my youth. Still, I'll stay up late socializing with friends that I only see at cons and with new friends too.

Is anyone else staying at the hotel thursday night?
