Hi everyone. I know... not another Chun Li thread but here it goes. I was wondering what type of fabrics you would recommend for Chun Li's dress? I've looked through these forums and all I could find was not to use cheap satin and good places to find the boots. I've noticed majority use some sort of satin and even found some that looked like a lycra type but I'm just not sure. I've been to several fabric stores and nothing screams Chun Li. So, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on which types would be the best because I'm leaning towards the bridal satin but I just don't know. Thanks!

Chunnie's clothes aren't really shiny o.O Try a muslin cloth perhaps? It's nice and pretty easy to sew with....it also doesn't blind people when cameras or the sun flash on it :D

Yeah, if it were me, I would probably use more of a matte fabric, but something significantly nicer than broadcloth. I used to make my early costumes out of broadcloth, not even thinking about different textures and fabrics. -_-'
I wouldn't use a shiny fabric either, only because the costume doesn't seem like it would suit it very much. Not many anime/game outfits look like they are made from something shiny, but maybe that's just because it is more difficult to animate... In the picture I attached, it really doesn't look shiny to me.
It's a little difficult to describe the type of fabric I would get for this without going to a fabric store, taking a picture, and posting it on here.

If you aren't too sure what fabric to use I suggest lookin at the different verisons of chun-li cosplay (to get an idea of what fabric looks best).
> A good collection of Capcom Cosplay has a collection of chun-li cosplay.
Good luck with your costume, don't rush with the fabrics take time to think it over.

Thanks for the suggestions. I see what you mean. I'll do some more fabric browsing and maybe pick a fabrics and try them out as "chinese style tops" to see what would look best. Thank you very much! ^_^ ::bows:: Also, I was wondering, you know the chinese material they use w/chinese tops and dresses, if they made those as solid colors at all. Cause, that's what I really wanted to use in the first place but I haven't had any luck finding anything but printed ones. thank you!!!

I've seen solid ones in umm... Toronto! :)
So they do exist, but I couldn't tell you the closest place to you that would have them. I think they are a bit shiny though, if I remember correctly.

whatever you do...dont get killed by things that are TOOOOO shiny. satin can be your friend and your ultimate enemy in cosplay!

I used spandex. turned out really nice.
I found this really nice Chinese print fabric I was thinking of doing an alpha chunli out of. I really like the Chinese prints on the Chinese influenced costumes, and kimono like costumes too. I saw a Mai that was done with embroydered (forgive bad spelling) Chinese print and it looked sweet.
