I'm having trouble with what to make his shoulder armor, arm bands, and the waist armor out of, and i was hoping to see what others made theirs out of. I really hit a block with these, since I can't really think of anything that will still look good. Also i could use some reference pics. Any suggestions?

Edit: Also some advice on the wing would be helpful too! =)

This website has some AWESOME tutorials on armor making (and all they use is paper, foam, and bondo! O.O:

Here are some pictures of their cloud armor:

I can only find 6 pictures not really step by step, i guess ill try to do the armor myself, maybe out of some kind of foam, but im not sure exactly what type.

For the side armor, i though that those big gallon plastic milk jugs would work. never tried it, for none of my guy friends will cosplay. A great deal can be done with readly avaiable materials such as cardboard, news paper water and flour, but if paper mache is not your idea of quality armor, then you could try carving it out of foam. (dont forget that spray paint melts styrofoam!) Lastly, i attempted a cloud wing out of a thick, but very flexable wire and a very light tulle material. it did not work very well at all. i had very little control over it's form and was too heavy to support itself. So again, foam, card board and the likes would probably be a good place to start.

Yeah im pretty sure im gonna go with the foam. It seems like the eaisiest route, and the one that would come out the best, also i really dont like paper mache, i don't mess with it, and probably never will, unless i take a class for it or something =) Yeah, i know spraypaint melts the foam so i was thinking after i got everything carved out, I'll wrap it in duct tape or something, and spray over that.

Now for the wing, I was thinking about maybe wire coathangers bent out, but i dunno what to do to support the wing.

Back to thinking and buying stuff. =)

If you use duct tape, you have to get special spray paint for plastic, otherwise, it will all chip off!

elastic often works well for wing support, but with clouds red cape, you should be able to effectivly hide nearly any type of harness you create.

Aw, geez whats the name of that pink, dense styrofoam-dealy stuff, and where can i find it? That's probably what ill make the sword and armor out of.

No no.. He made it like this:

http://page.freett.com/darkknight/zi-/zi.html

He didn't carve it out of dense, brittle foam. He shaped it out of soft, flexible foam. Then he covered it with "body-filler" (bondo), sanded, and painted.

I believe you can use translators on that site (they DO have website translators). I don't know if the translators work with Japanese characters, though, but it's worth a shot! :bigtu:

Search on Google for Japanese translators, and that may help (hopefully)

Just use the Babel Fish:

Though, it causes each page to load excruciatingly slow. x.x

*nods at Yin's example* That works (hint the slowness), plus check on Google as well, because others do exist.

Looks pretty... and solid... but that's just it: I don't see any fastenings to get into the armour unless you are very flexible. But perhaps it's just the pictures. (grin)

Well.. ive decided upon sheet metal for the leg armor, with a lil help from my father (yay), and for the shoulder im gonna modify a baseball helmet by taking a sawzall to it and cutting it out in the form of the should armor, then bam, drill 3 holes, sand it down and spray paint it with the metallic-dealy paint i got.

pizzuh!

Or you could save a lot of time and money and make it out of flexible foam and bondo like they did. =) Would prolly' look better too. ^_^

Miscellaneous, what con is this costume for?

For Anime Boston this weekend. And i finally finished the costume and it's all together!

The leg armor was made out of bent pieces of sheet metal, then I tack welded them with 3 smaller pieces of metal and it holds really nicely. Added belt loops made out of metal, and covered the front with bondo. Sanded the front with a grinder and some sandpaper, and painted with silvery metallic paint. Hurrah!

The shoulder came out nice as well, the 3 wooden pegs i stuck in holes that were drilled in the top of the helmet and silicon'd them to stay in place. Then i sanded the helm/shoulder down and painted. Then i attached the shoulder to the big leather strap (That goes across Cloud's body, and also happens to be the support for the wing) with super glue and silicon on the edges.

All and all it came out really nice, made the bracelets out of expanded polystyrene, they look kind of funny because theyre covered in duct tape kind of messy and then sprayed them with the paint, but they still look neat. :skidude2:

I won't have claws though, wasn't sure what to make them out of and i don't feel like rushing from store to store looking for material for them, since i'm leaving on thursday so just forget them for now

I made all the lil belts out of vinyl though, and my boots don't zip up, mostly because its really hard to get zippers on the boots i have, but i can't wait to show off my wing, because im so proud of it. :skidude2:

See you there!
