I want to cosplay as this (http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ariel_pink_dress_9936.jpg) version of Ariel, but I need some help with where to start.

I'm thinking about buying a wig like the one here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/32-Long-Heat-Resistant-Big-Spiral-Curl-Dark-Red-Cosplay-Wig-Free-Shipping-80cm-/320878596054?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Wigs_Extensions&hash=item4ab5dacfd6) or here (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-style-red-long-curly-fashion-lace-front-part-wig-natural-synthetic-hair-products-Quality-assurance/718842395.html), and styling the bangs. How could I make a poof like she has?

I'll probably buy a hoop skirt, but I'm not sure what size I would need. I was thinking of buying a 6 hoop. Would that be too big for the dress? And would I need a petticoat to go over it?

Lastly, I have almost no idea about how to make the dress. I want to sew it though and not have to commission someone. I found online that someone used this Disney pattern (http://www.joann.com/simplicity-pattern-2813hh-disney-misses-costume-sz-6-12/zprd_11102159a/) by altering it. Would that be the best way to make it?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Your dress link doesn't work, but I'm assuming it's the pink ball gown. This newer Simplicity patter (http://www.simplicity.com/p-8201-misses-costume.aspx#t-0)n looks quite nice, as it's off the shoulder like hers.

This is a great pattern! It looks like it will work well. Thanks!

Oh yay you are going to try to puff the bangs (most people just sweep them to the side), I did about 4 different wig test runs with 3 different Ariel wigs, and after the most recent one I realized that the best way to do it is to purchase 2 wigs and wefting them together and the volume of bangs would form without teasing, though this method would require a lot of skill and familiarity with wig work. I think the best tutorial I've found so far was this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkfSiXvzPT0
this method made my bangs like this:

Hope that kind of helped~

My friend actually helped me do the wig (she's really good at styling). She poofed the bangs pretty well, though not as gravity defying as Ariel's. I might be redoing the wig soon though since it's been falling a bit lately, so thank you for the links!

6 hoop is the best and you will need a petticoat depending on the fabric, some fabric will show the hoop some wont

Can you tell me what number it is? The link won't work on my laptop for some reason, and I'd love to cosplay Ariel.

I think it's the Mirror, Mirror inspired one (1728) I've seen people on other sites mention having used this pattern for Ariel before...
