What would you consider "every" post? You only have a number of 4 posts..2 of which are in the marketplace..So already half of your posts are not treated that way. Also, since you posted too easly in the marketplace, I take it you didn't read those rules..You probably should..Idk about your other 2 posts, but maybe you posted things that didn't need to be posted?

Yes, links are the #1 way to get your post caught in the filter.

It's an automated system. There is no moderator sitting there and rejecting them. I replied to your PM.

I think my problem is different than having my messages filtered. When I press 'Submit Reply' on the AX Vocaloid gathering thread, I get a blank page. When I try posting a quick reply or edit my previous post, when I click of "Post Quick Reply", it says "Posting Quick Reply - Please Wait" and just hangs there. It just happens to be that particular thread where I'm having problems. Every other thread I post to doesn't have this problem, at least not at the moment.

If you look into this problem, I think you might also want to check if other people have that same problem in that thread because while I can't confirm this, I think the person that started that thread might have the same problems.

Okay so I have posted a new topic in the market place, selling costumes part for about 2 days ago. It had to be reviewed by the administrator. But somehow it is still not online, nor do I find any status about it. So I am starting to worry a little: did my post went through and even arrived to the admin? Or is there a way to check the status somewhere?

Ah, now even my attempts to post here wouldn't go visible. Hoping this one might go through:

I have a problem very similar to MysteriousMaemi.

I'm not new but I do have less than ten posts, since I just prefer to lurk and read over. I attempted to submit a thread to the marketplace and when it never went through, I tried submitting it again (an updated version, so the first can be disregarded) thinking it was an error or if it didn't get to an Admin and still nothing. Would it be possible to have the updated thread approved and/or cleaned out of the filter so they can be seen?

Hello everyone,
I am new to cosplaying and decided that i would be doing a black butler (kuroshitsuji) themed sweet 16 i will do the party at my house, or event venue but would like to do a professional photo shoot with everyone in costume. I live in the Cincinnati area of Ohio and am having trouble finding a Victorian mansion/house in which i can have a photo shoot taken. Any ideas an where i can take pictures and any photographers that you would recommend?? please help
Also i prefer an area where i can have an outdoor and indoor interactions meaning i can walk on the grass and sit on furniture (a lot of museums i'm finding don't let people touch or sit on furniture)
Thank you very much for your help:)

I've been trying for a week to post a thread about the convention that I'm helping run in December, and it won't post, but my regular replies post just fine. And I've been on this site since 2008. Explanation? (Plus, the website refused to load since last Saturday to today!)

I still have the problem that I cannot post to the Anime Expo Vocaloid gathering thread. I have tried many times to either edit my post or reply to that particular thread, but I just get a blank screen. For some reason, it's just that thread and it's a bit annoying especially since Anime Expo is only several weeks away and it's hard to convey any changes when you can't post.

1) be a member for at least 30 days

Honestly you are being very rude about it. You can do things like advertise in a da account, or even PM the people asking about commissions they wanted. It's not a "stupid rule" either. It's a security issue foin case of spammers which this site actually get more of then you might think. Just calm down and wait. It's one month, it won't kill you. The rest of us had to do it. There are hundreds of members that do commissions that waiting just fine and look, we aren't hurting from it. You are just way too eager about it.

EDIT: I just realized you want to have something made, rather then make things. You CAN pPM members you know..You don't have to post an ad to get a commission from someone. Go find a commissioner and ask them yourself. It's much faster

Teto Teto
07-18-2013, 02:41 PM
Sigh, I wanted to post it here so I wouldn't have to go looking around for someone. And I mean admins have to allow posts for new members, shouldn't that be a good enough spam deterent? I'm not trying to put out thirty advertisements for knock off websites, I just want to make one thread trying to get something made.

It's more of a 'gaining reputation' thing with the whole "30 Days, 10 Posts" rule. Though honestly that probably and has not stopped people before from being bad businessmen/women. I would love to see the old Marketplace come back with a system of reputation kind of like eBay. Anyone can post sales or make requests, but bad feedback would be allowed and not able to be deleted by the seller or commissionee who fell through on their end of the bargain. This way everyone knows what they are getting into.

Yea, seconded!! So many people have been saying they want something like this. It would make things way easier. I mean yea, the old market had a feedback system that sorta worked that way, but not one could find it because you had to go throw like 5 pages of things just to get to it..

The issue with post moderation is twofold.

First, there is a spam prevention system in place that throttles new posts and comments if you are a new user. While this is understandably frustrating, the amount of spam it prevents is astounding. Around a year ago we were getting hit with 300+ spam comments/day and sometimes 20-30 new spam threads per day.

Some measures were put into place to circumvent it, but unfortunately the most effective measure was to put all new users into a moderator queue that does place a few restrictions on posting for the first few valid posts, and also blocks posts with links and images. Spam went from a massive nuisance to almost non-existent (at least from what got automatically posted, we still see some spam in our mod queue, so it's working).

I know a lot of people mention things like IP blocking, but spammers almost always use dynamic IP's. Blocking the IP can mean blocking other people as well (and the spammer will just log in with a different IP a few minutes later - sometimes automatically in the case of spam bots).

And for the marketplace, the 30 day / 10 post rule is there for one main reason - making sure you have at least a basic, searchable history on the site before you post in the marketplace.

Teto Teto
07-18-2013, 06:27 PM
I can make ten posts for history if you want, hell I could make one hundred if you really needed me too. And like Hime no Toki said the wait isn't really stopping bad businessmen. I just want make one post, I don't care an admin has to give the okay to it, I'm perfectly fine with that. I just don't see what the thirty days wait does that the other measures aren't already doing better.

JasonTerror
07-18-2013, 06:42 PM
I just don't see what the thirty days wait does that the other measures aren't already doing better.

It's been talked about a lot on here, actually. The reason that was given to us all was that it's to become an active member on the site. So they know you aren't here ONLY for the marketplace. It's a forum site for a reason, to have a community of people interacting over the same hobby, not just buying something or selling something. They want their members to be active on the site, and to prove you are wanting to do that, they made us wait to post.

Teto Teto
07-18-2013, 08:44 PM
I think allowing immediate access to the marketplace would encourage more people to join the community. Sure some people would just come to buy and sell but it would get more people on the site and some of them would branch out to other parts of the forum. People aren't just going to abandon the rest of the forum just because the marketplace becomes more popular. And I'd have to say that not being able to use the marketplace hasn't really inspired me to become a staple member of the community. :P

And that's NOT what the site is for. They don't have the marketplace up just to get a million people joining. They have it up as a plus for people that are active here. They don't want a bunch of people just joining, that's not the point of any site really..They put up the site so the cosplay community has a nice place to talk and get along, not just join. And you wanting only to use the market, and NOT be an active member, is exactly what this site ISN'T here for. If you don't want to be a part of the active community, then you shouldn't join a site made for it..I think you just aren't really understanding the point of having this site up..

Why is this such a big deal? Is it really that bad that I made an account so I wouldn't have to go searching around for a commissioner? I like to cosplay but I'm not big on forums. I thought you people would encourage people cosplaying even if they don't post frequently.

Well, I personally don't care one way or the other. That's just how THIS site is run. There's no use getting upset about it. It's not a big deal to a lot of people, if admin wants it a certain way, then he can say that and if you don't like the way he runs it, make your own, but don't complain about something you have a choice over. And you DO realize once the 30 days are up, no one can stop you from posting an ad..You don't even have to be active at that point..You only have 2 more posts to go, and I'm sure you'll reply to this, so that would be only one after that, then just wait, it won't kill you to wait 30 days. Are you going to fall over and die, or stop cosplaying alltogether in 30 days? No? Then what's to complain about? You'll still get to post the ad at that time, so yo'll be getting what you want. You're just too impatient to wait a little while.

Admin
07-18-2013, 09:25 PM
Jason, that's a bit harsh.

While in spirit, we don't want this place just to be a location for people to join up just to sell stuff, in the end there's nothing inherently wrong with it. The rules on the number of days to be a member is (again, in spirit) mostly for people signing up just have a quick and free way to sell things. And mostly, it's to stop spam - the marketplace was absolutely ruined once because commercial businesses started signing up an account and adding new products, regardless of the rules. For example, some mornings we would wake up and delete 100 different contact lens ads, one for each style or color, all from the same "new" account.

With the current marketplace format, there's no built-in feedback system, so it takes a bit more work to learn about a user enough to know whether or not they are good to work with. This can sometimes apply to the "potential buyer" side as well.

TetoTeto - if you look through the commissioners for hire area, you'll find lots of people you can message to see if they'll make something for you. There is no requirement to have posting privileges in the marketplace forum for that.

Teto Teto

No one's being a jerk. I explained basically what admin just told you, so is he a jerk too? You kept arguing about the same thing when you were told by different people the same thing but you argued because you were impatient and wanted it to be the way you wanted it to be, because of what reason you felt like it needed to be that way. we explained why and you argued back wanting your way regardless of any explination to why those ways won't work.

And also, for the record, I DID tell you that you could message any commissioners you wanted to since you want tomething made. Which totally made the entire section of the thread pointless..

Hello again and I don't mean to constantly nag you guys about this, but I was wondering if one of my posts had been declined. It's the post that I had been asking about for a while.

Alright, I don't intend to jump into a quarrel that isn't really any of my business, but allow me to put in my two cents. Teto, you now have your 10 posts so that is one less thing to worry about. Now, the 30 days wait does seem a bit pointless, if you don't intend to post much, but try to see the reasoning behind it. If people need to post and be around for 30 days, naturally you'd think that they wouldn't just wait out the 30 days and do nothing, you'd think that in that time, the person would get in a decent amount of posts and demonstrate that they can be trusted. Now this system isn't foolproof, but it does let people get a feel for what kind of person you are and if you can be trusted as a seller. From a personal standpoint, I would be a bit skeptical about purchasing an item from a member with the minimum requirements to sell and not many posts for me to judge if this person could be a quality seller. No one is trying to be a jerk, but to be quite honest, and no offense, but you are being a bit stubborn about seeing the reasoning behind the rule. If they allowed you sell before the 30 days without solid reasoning, then it would be unfair to any others who might've been in your same position, but decided to go along with the system. Plus, rules are rules and no one is going to change them just because one person does not want to wait. Patience is a virtue, my friend ;)

EDIT: Why are the posts getting caught in the filter? Is it because of the newbie status or the links that were in my posts or both?

konekoanni

So maybe this is a stupid question and I'm missing the answer somewhere, but what is the cutoff to stop getting caught in the spam filter? I've been a member since March (technically a lot longer than that but I made a new account when I rejoined this year) and I'm finding it a bit discouraging--I want to participate in some of the fun community threads, but being caught in the filter all the time means that I get left behind in the faster-paced discussion and "game" threads. (I also ended up accidentally double-posting a couple of times because I didn't realize my posts were getting filtered).

I completely understand the need for it, and I can bear with it, but some general number of posts or length of time before it goes away would be nice to know.

Hime no Toki
07-24-2013, 08:07 PM
The filter can be really, really random at times. I will approve anything that hits the filter, as long as it is not spam, or a Marketplace post by a member who is new/has less than 10 posts. I have in the past had people say that their post wasn't showing up and it was not in the filter...as to where those posts go, I couldn't begin to guess, but it has happened before. :( I'm about to go in there now and clear it out for a second time today. Also, it can be very random with filtering things - sometimes a user will post something and it will not show, but they will post here about their issue and the post doesn't even hit the filter. It's odd.

*edit* One thing it can get really fussy with is new members, or ones who don't post frequently, including URLs in their posts. The filter might think it is spam and trigger it to hit the filter.

Alright I guess I will just go searching through pages of commitioners. :(

I'm in the same boat and it's very frustrating. I thought I'd found the answer to how to get my costume made and so I spent two days reading through the process and the sticky post, getting my pictures together, getting my measurements and making sure I knew the procedure and would do everything right but I didn't see the 30 day + 10 posts rule.

I was already on a tight but doable deadline. In 30 days time I don't think it'll be a doable timeline anymore.

If I was a commissioner I think I'd be quite annoyed by this rule. I'm sure there's plenty of people like me who find this forum because they're looking to pay someone to make a costume for them. This rule will likely chase away their business. I can see wanting to chase away time wasters but from what I've read, commissioners usually require a down payment so that should already stop the time wasters.

I keep trying to post a WTS cosplay in the Used cosplays for sale thread. I have submitted it twice (each a week apart). Am I not posting it according to forum rules or something? I posted others just fine but this one will never go through. I really need to sell that cosplay :( I am not a new member. I have been on this site for 3 years.

You just now have 10 posts , that is why I deleted the prior posts.

Member for 30 days - at least 10 posts. Those are the rules for submitting.

I didn't realise about the new member filter, the last post I put on my thread in the introductions will seem a bit silly now, I wondered out loud if it was some kind of glitch, oops. Sorry.

If I may ask...

How long do I have to be a member before I don't have to wait for a mod to approve my posts? I notice that some of my posts get posted instantly while others take a long time (I guess those are hitting the spam filter?). I don't recall typing anything that looked even remotely spammy, but I do tend to write long posts which might set off the spam filter.

You mentioned the 10 post, 30 day limit for the marketplace... does this apply to other posts as well when the filter 'looks' for people to flag? I have not used and probably won't use the marketplace for a long time, so my posts that aren't posting have nothing to do with that.

I understand why the spam filter is in place. I'm just trying to fully understand what I can do to not set it off as easily. Waiting hours for my posts to finally show up is frustrating, but I understand that moderators have lives and can't be watching it 24/7 so I'd just like to avoid it altogether. If it were at all possible, maybe there could be a user rank added for 'trusted members' where a mod can approve a person as a trusted member and that person will no longer be thrown into the spam filter at whim. It could be completely in the background so people aren't jealous/upset that they don't have that rank yet. Of course, if their account was ever hacked, it would be a problem... but it would still weed out the majority of spam posts.

I am a new 'active' member, but my account is ooolllld, going on 8 years. I am pretty much wondering the same thing as ViaSapientis, what is the cut off point for not getting put into the spam filter? My posts take so long to show up that I suspect a lot of other members miss reading them because the thread has progressed so much since. I only made a few posts so I'm understanding of the filter needs, just wondering when it stops. :)

Would like to know if my latest post which is yet to be approved is fine or not. I kinda suck at wording things, and I'm sure I could have made it sound better. It's just part of my big huge dream which I really would like to see accomplished.

I'm trying to put up an ad in the new marketplace but every time I try, it says the site is under maintenance and it turns to a 'page cannot be displayed' screen. Why is that??

I've been a member on this site for a few years now, and I don't know why my posts need to be filtered... I guess it's because of my long absence.

Anywho, I'm not trying to complain about that. I was just coming here to say that I posted something in quick reply and didn't realize it needed to be approved, so when it disappeared, I was like... okay...

So I did the other form of reply, and was then told that it had to be approved. So, I just wanted to say that I double-posted, and if we could cancel the first one some how, since the second post seemed better to me, personally... That'd be great. And if not, then I'll just edit it, I guess.

Though, I'm confused why my posts need to be approved in the General Cosplay Chat section... but not in other sections...

And the double-post was in a thread that bashed Western cosplayers, mine being in a defensive manner... So if you could look into that thread in general, that'd be swell. Because that thread is very offensive.

I don't want to complain, really... I just want to say that I double-posted by accident...
But if you could inform about the issue with the General Cosplay Chat, that'd be awesome too.

Well I am glad to see this thread was here. I was wondering how long it would take a moderator to approve the new thread in the introductions and my post in the RWBY cosplay and fitness areas now I know I need to wait a full 24 hours before worrying. Just a shame for the RWBY one as it was a post answering a question and now two posts have gone past my answer someone else answering it in a different way and the questioner thanking them. Still my answer might still be of help so I do hope it gets approved. But thank you for this tread and thank the moderators for their time.

Well seems I can not edit my last post. really hate to make a new post after my old on but I have a question. How is it my own introduction topic that I made sometime yesterday...very late yesterday so not quite 24 hours but it still has not been approved and posted yet I was able to post in someone else's introduction topic? I understand as I am new and untill I have 10 posts and 30 days past I need my posts to be approved I just find it strange some post without going to the mods yet others go to the mods. So I was wondering why this was happening.

It has been over 24 hours and while the fitness post is now posted my "hello from Michigan" topic for introductions and my RWBY post are still not being seen and I had created them before the fitness post. Was there something wrong with the other two posts? Did they not get approved? Why?:angel:

I had posted a thread in the introduction forum yesterday and it still hasn't shown. Would it be okay to make a new one? I'm not particularly fond of what I had written, but if it shows up, it shows up, and I'll just have to deal with it.

I understand that threads by newbies get screened, but I guess that's because people have made accounts just to spam the forums?

I tried to make a thread related to topify on Site Headquarters (I can't seem to figure out how to log in correctly). If there is a simple fix, I won't worry about the thread not posting. I didn't know if it was due to my lack of posting or not. Any help would be appreciated. :)

DropsOfRain

It saddens me that legitimate posters are getting caught in the queue, while Proud Aisian is able to make a new account daily, and make test posts consisting of nothing but numbers and/or punctuation that get through the queue so the forum software deems him not a spambot. After his account is in the clear he goes on his usual garbage spree again.

I don't mean to be ignorant, I know that forum software can be inflexible, but is there anything that can be done to keep Proud out? Or at the very least, make it more of a hindrance for him to keep posting? Because this is at least 3 days in a row now that he is doing this, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see him gone.

DropsofRain - basically what he does is he spams until he reaches the point where his posts appear regardless. I'd like to see him gone too, but he apparently changes his IP and is very obsessive. It's obvious the guy has mental issues and as annoying as he is (trust me, I'm more annoyed than anyone because I have to see and delete his garbage time and time again) I highly recommend everyone to ignore him. He only comes back because people pay attention to him. :/

I am going through the queue now to filter posts.

I haven't used the forums since 2010, and my new posts are not appearing. I'm just going to guess that it's because even with my old old posts, i don't have 10? If I keep trying, will they show up?

Both of you are still new users, so you've been caught in the spam filter. Your posts will appear in a few days after a mod is able to "unclog" the filter and mark you as a real person and not a spam bot.

Been waiting a couple of days on some of my posts also. Two are new threads and if the second ones I tried to post could go up instead of the first I'd be much appreciative; if not I'll just edit. I do have agree with some of the other posters, the time posts can take to go up is discouraging.

What do you mean "fixed"? It's not a site bug or problem..It's a spam filter to make sure spammer don't get through..EVERYONE get's caught in it when they are new, it's not a matter of fixing anything, its a matter of how fast a mod gets to it and clears the good ones.

so posts classified as spam dont get removed but gets approved on a long long list wich moderators can take a look at?

Everything has been cleared out. The filter exists for a reason. Just today there were several spambots I was able to address without them hitting the forums and annoying users. It's a double-edged sword but I try to check at least once a day.

Also, there's really no way for the filter to tell spam from non-spam. Some posts I have to look at twice because it honestly looks like a spam post, very short message with a URL on it.
