I reaaaaaaaaaaaaally hope I can make it this year. (says the girl who misses every cosplay.com event that she promises to be at...) I'll be in the area for the summer, so if I can get the day off work, I'll come! I'll PM you when I'm sure.

I'm trying to write on the site, where to meet-up and I'd like to meet at the same place as last year but I don't know how to describe it. Could I have some assistance please? :japan:

Also I have chosen the 5th +(raindate 6th) because it is the best date for most of the people that have signed up so far.

hmm........Last time in the commons, I was wishing we could go to the garden area for a photoshoot.. It really was nice over there. You guys might want to think about doing that...

Sweet~Pea
04-19-2004, 01:52 PM
That's sounds good. We could eat and chat, have the group picture and (whoever wanted to) could walk to the gardens for a photoshoot. The area where we took pictures for the Ah! My Goddess group at AB was a nice spot :)

ChibiRinoa
04-19-2004, 07:29 PM
actually, the frame company Burnes of Boston has a picture from the garden that faces the John Hancock tower. The picture is taken in the exact same spot as the picnic last year. Unfortunately i dont have a picture on me of where exactly is it, but if you happen to be near a place that sells frames, take a look. While it still doesnt help with exact locations, its a good picture reference

Sweet~Pea
04-19-2004, 07:32 PM
lol, I have noticed that. Funny huh?
I work in a photo/frame place so I'm starring at those frames constently.
Would it be easier to meet near a subway stop like near the Park street stop?

I believe that's our tree on the left of the picture attached:
Cheers

Ang
04-19-2004, 07:56 PM
Yes, I do believe that is our tree!

The Park St. stop is a good meeting place, so is the restrooms or playground since that is near where we were also.

Let's not forget the park vendor where Ang bought her legendary Harvard shirt. Lol, I should bring that. I can make it a tradition!

Sweet~Pea
04-19-2004, 08:05 PM
The park street stop should work the best because some may be taking the train to the location anyways and it's on local maps.

I've changed the info on the site and the top of the forum to reflect this change.

I just put the link to the picnic site on the NE_COSP page, and I'm also going to plug the Fairy Photoshoot thread in here since I'm opening for RSVPs so I can get a head count to relay to Maboroshi and so we can set a good donation amount to send to him to buy plane tickets.

I'd love to go, however, I think that we are holding a surprise birthday party for one of my close friends that day. So... it's a maybe.
We might just show up. And it also might be a thing to do that day so that we can make sure she doesn't find out. ^^ I shall let you know if we can come but for now, it will have to stay at a maybe.
Because of all the expenses that I am dealing with this year (car, drivers ed, tests, party) I might not be able to bring anything and that's probably not good. ^^;;
So yea! ^^;;

Last year it seemed that there was a bigger buzz about it than this year. Christa, do you want to plug it on the NE_COSP list since it's your event?

Personally I can't wait, any reason for me to get out of RI is a good reason...

Does anybody know how to get there from Providence by train? I've never taken the T, and I'd rather not drive up there and risk not finding a spot/paying too much for parking/etc..

Ang
05-12-2004, 06:42 AM
That's how I'll be going. The T doesn't run on the weekends from Providence, so we will be taking the Amtrak. It's 18 dollars roundtrip to South Station and back.

Theres the chinatown bus thats on the end of canal street for $10 each way. It takes you right into boston chinatown and the park isn't that far from there. Studmaster is taking the bus down I presume like he did last year.

Ang
05-13-2004, 03:10 PM
You can also take the Greyhound Bus right into South Station if you're skeeved by the idea of the $10 bus...Because I sorta am. Lol.

I just want to take the time and say that I'm bringing my radio with me, so if anyone wants to listen to a CD during the picnic, please bring one (or two, or five).

Sweet~Pea
05-15-2004, 06:09 PM
I'm not sure if this is good idea, seeing as we'll be in a public park, with other people at the park. It would be nice, but I'm sure the other people wouldn't like it very much it they're trying to relax on the grass and there is J-Rock in the background.

Along with everyone else offering plugs for the picnic, I can probably do that on www.bootyproject.org. I write for it, so it wouldn't be a problem, and also the last cosplay picnic that was held in Phili, was plugged on the site and it got a lot of response!

I should chime in and see how much of a response there is for diet soda...That's all I drink anymore since I went on low-carb (Otaku on Atkins, BLAH!!), and I will be bringing some with me. So if anyone else requests this, let me know so I know how much to bring with me. I prefer Diet Pepsi myself.

Pardon my double post, but anyone who wants to take the train from Providence into Boston, I just found out that they raised the fare from $18 to $24. *gag* Oh well, we gotta get there somehow, and I STILL think it's cheaper than gas for some reason.

If you are planning on going this way, let me know so we can work out a group thing like last year. Ben unfortunately has to work, AGAIN, so I will be flying solo otherwise.

I figure once we get back, get changed and cool down, we can all meet at Providence Place Mall to go see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban around 8pm ish. Ben and I will be going as it is our usual Saturday night custom to grace the movies with our presence. We always welcome company!

That's how I'll be going. The T doesn't run on the weekends from Providence, so we will be taking the Amtrak. It's 18 dollars roundtrip to South Station and back.

The commuter rail does, however, run from (and to) South Attleboro (which is right over the border from Rhode Island) on weekends.

Ang
05-29-2004, 10:23 PM
Which is lovely if you like to deal with Emerald Square traffic, and of course, if you had a car that could get you there. ^_~

BTW: Is anyone here allergic to soy? I'll be bringing low-carb tortilla chips (which taste AWESOME might I add, nice and light, so don't get scared!) and they contain soy proteins instead of corn.

Also, is anyone planning on bringing a cooler with ice? I'll be lugging a couple of 2 liters on the train, so I can't provide. :(

Let's keep the glompage at a minimum people...Last year there was just a little TOO much of it, and I don't think it went well with the mundanes, we look strange enough as it is, we don't need an issue with the law... Plus we don't want anyone getting hurt.

I for one cannot stand it since I got knocked to the hard wood floor at Jacon one year.

We may all be dressed up pretty weird, but let's try to maintain some sort of level of maturity, shall we?

Can meet anytime before 3 at the "big tree"? Or do i get kicked out ^^;

Q2: i'm also worried about changing. should i change before going or is there anywhere to change there?

Q3: and even though there is a chance i might not make it, should i sign up anyway?

there's some bathrooms near by, so you could possibly change there?
I remember last year someone did that.

Ang
06-02-2004, 09:44 PM
First of all, there is no need to panic.

Second of all, there are bathrooms just passed the hill that the tree is on, in plain sight, so you can change there.

Third of all, you can come at any time, and you will not get kicked out. Also, you don't HAVE to sign up either, I'm bringing nametags for everyone to wear so we don't have to ask each other who we are.

ROFL, I walked around Boston Common in my Miaka costume during anime boston 04 (I was trying to find a place to buy coffee -_-) and MAN did people think I was a freak! XD XD I caused one elderly guy to lean over to his wife and say "Have you EVER SEEN such a thing?!?" It's so funny cuz I didn't think my costume was that extravagant. XD I can't wait till next year.

I'm very happy to hear that we will have name tags! What a good idea. :)

Oh, I almost forgot, is anyone else taking the subway in? I think I am; if I do, I'll be coming from the Blue Line in costume, which should be more interesting than the LAST time I rode the subway while cosplaying. But it will be comforting to see other cosplay people.

Anyone know Saturday's forecast? It keeps being really nice outside, then turning to rain for 15 minutes and back...or at least where I am. Even if it looks nice out, we should bring umbrellas as the weather changes so suddenly...and don't wanna hurt the costumes O.o...I'll bring an extra...

Ang
06-03-2004, 04:11 PM
Well, Weatherbug says:

Saturday
Becoming cloudy. A chance of showers in the morning. Showers likely in the afternoon. Highs around 60. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.

And Weather.com says:

PM Showers 66/49 30 % Precip

And turnto10.com says showers, but that would be Providence. (Not much difference...)

And Weather.net says:

Saturday

Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 60s. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

So take your pick. Lol. We aren't going to know for SURE until Saturday. Come on, this is New England!

rei_hino

I just heard about an hour ago on the news that it'll be decent in the morning, and a few drizzles later on, but no showers. Sunday is supposed to be worse than Saturday(Which is bad for me...graduation party on Sunday).

I'ts easy, just hope it rains, and it won't. If you hope it DOESN'T rain, it will. ^^

Then again, I think last year it was supposed to rain too...I don't plan on buying my train ticket until Saturday morning now anyway because of that. If I wake up, and the weather is a shade of gray, I don't think I will be leaving the house. Then Sunday I have a softball game so...shoot.

I wouldn't worry much though. I could always schedule a picnic in Providence, and there will be plenty of other events this summer.

And who will you be going as?

Adrienne
06-03-2004, 09:52 PM
w00t! ^0^ From my experiences, it takes about 45 minutes to get to government center from Wonderland. We would have to switch to the green line at there, but Park Street is the next stop after Government Center. :) So I think it is a good idea for us to meet at 11:00 a.m. at Wonderland. :) I am going as Shampoo from Ranma 1/2, and I'll be sporting a really long purple wig and her pink chinese style dress, so you won't be able to miss me! ^0^ If you see me and I don't recognize you, just say "Lolichan!" ^_^

Can we lose the mallet please? Thanks.

Amen. Please do NOT bring weapons to this event. The Common is heavily patrolled by mounted police, and they WILL take notice of a large group of oddly dressed people waving weapons around.

As for me, if the weather is at all questionable, I probably won't make it.

JTARI
06-04-2004, 12:11 PM
Ugh, if its raining out, I'm not sure if I would wanna drag myself out in full costume through the Commons, in fear of damaging my costume. It seems pretty apparent that it is gonna rain though =\

How many people still plan on going?

Shoroo
06-04-2004, 04:04 PM
I'll go if other people will be there. But may or may not wear my costume if it's doing anything more than drizzling.

Weather.com still says cloudy for Saturday, but doesn't mention precipitation. Temps in the 60's.

Jun_Kazama
06-04-2004, 04:31 PM
here's what it said in the boston site for weather tommorow:

Saturday. Partly cloudy in the morning. Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers late in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 60s. East winds 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday night. Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the evening. Showers likely after midnight. Lows around 50. East winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

I think Sunday's supposed to be worse. I still plan on going on Sat. providing its still on. I may be doing a different costume though b/c I still can't find mine..and now I'm not sure if my freind can make it. bah.

Unless its seriously raining (not just drizzling) or REALLY looks like its going to rain (as in dark storm clouds), I'm going. The forecasts I read said it was going to be sunny. You never know, but still... I haven't seen a weather report that predicted rain in Boston yet. I did see that it's supposed to rain on Sunday, though.

I found my costume (all except for my goggles) and I hearfd from my freind so I will def. be there. We're gonna be there hella early (we're arriving at S. station around 9:45) so we're gonna go chill and then head to Park St. when the time comes.
Hope to see everyone there. Should be fun ^_~

I'm gonna try to bring my tripod and photo stuff with me, But it all depends on how much room I have left and how much I want to carry around (cuz we're prolly gonna be in Boston all day).

It was cooling seeing everyone and all of thier costumes. I was the really quiet chick in the vinyl chaps w/ the crazy guy in black (he wasn't in costume).
For thepeople I did talk to it was cool meeting you ^_^. Sorry I wasn't very social, I'm pretty shy irl.

Yea, other than that incident, I had a lot of fun

Someone else: "Why are you in cosplay?"
Guy: "Eh, didn't feel like it... But I am wearing my Sunday best jeans!"
Me: "-looks down at his torn jeans- But it's Saturday..."
Guy: "Oh! Thank you soooooo much for bursting my bubble with a pin!"
Sketch: "-makes poking motion-"
Other guy: "That reminds me... Didn't someone completely wrap themselves in bubble wrap for Halloween?"
Sketch: "Yeaaaah... That was me"

Some dude randomly picked up this girl, and she was shrieking while he wandered around, seemingly not knowing what to do with her. Sketch noticed, pointed behind him and said :"Trash is that way..."

I nearly died... It was sooooo funny. Next time though, I'll make sure that I come in a costume I can actually move in... Paine costume and tight pants= anti-socialism and hard to move-ness...
