The original Resident Evil for the PS1 changed the way I looked at video games. I had never played a game that had such a psychological edge to it.

Don't have enough for a top ten. ^^v

I know this is a little pre-emptive but I have the Doom 3 Alpha build....

I have played Silent Hill and RE1 and they rock and RE1 made me jump on more than 1 occasion, but I had the lights out for Doom 3 and I actually felt uneasy playing it. The environment, lighting, and Trent Reznor's kick @$$ sound effects for Doom 3 are just scary beyond belief.

I've only attempted two horror games: Fatal Frame and Silent Hill 2. My mom tried playing Silent Hill; that also scared me, but we couldn't kill the damn raven! >.o My sister played one of the Resident Evils, but I dunno which one; I've also watched my friend's brother play Resident Evil 1-3 (I think I might have played them with my friend, too). That's only 6...oh well.. >< I think pretty much all horror games scare me...

Silent Hill is sooooo cool.

Now I need a PS2 so I can get the second one and the third when its released.

the first silent hill was really scary, especially when you play it alone with no lights on @_@ a really old game called splatter house was pretty scary too... i never thought resident evil was scary, its just fun running away from everything or watch the bodies slump over with blood squirting everywhere. D on sega saturn was kinda scary with all the "LAURAA.......LAURA....." um cant think of any others

I've never found any of the Biohazard (RE) games scary in any sense, unless you mean jump factor (ie something suddenly crashes through a window). Same for Dino Crisis, but I don't think that counts as a horror game :P

The only game that has EVER creeped me out is the original Silent Hill (go to GameFAQs.com and read the Plot Guide if you haven't already... actually, go read it even if you haven't played the game, it's terribly fascinating). SH2 was vaguely creepy in a few ways, but more in the 'ew' sense than the 'wow, that f***s with my mind' way.

What I'd REALLY like is a PS2/xbox/whatever remake of the original SH, kept entirely intact and with nothing changed other than graphics. :/

I agree with Beramode. Resident Evil does have its moments of shock. But SH is definately the scarry stuff.

I don't even think there are TEN GOOD HORROR games.

Me and my sister came almost close to beating Fatal Frame...we only rented it for, I think, 4 days. By the 3rd day, we got to the 3rd night, but by that time I threatened my sister to not make me play it with her anymore, and my mom isn't very good at games, so my sister just quit it..

rumor has it, no one has finished it, and if they have, its been only a few people. I heard only twenlve got it through, but thats my word. in anycase, if its based of a true story, think about it....main character dies or something.

That reminds me... has anyone beaten that insane tower that you can enter if you play the original Parasite Eve on replay? Every level is randomly generated and they just get too damn hard, so I gave up around the 40s or so.

o.o That's scary that barely anyone's finished the game... =--'= That would only make my sister want to play it more...
