View Full Version : Wolfwood Punisher Cross

Hey all, okay, well, I didn't want to do the stereotypical "wrapped up punisher cross that's misproportional" and just be a lazy run of the mill Nicholas D. Wolfwood, so I built a full size wooden Cross, (and I also have the bandages and wraps for the complete looks and presence). I based it off the anime, not the manga, (hence the black lines from triangle to metal, instead of the green circular supports)
This is my progress as of tonight, after about 1 week of work, I'm still about a week off from completion. It's fun as hell to carry, though I still need to reinforce the bridge between the barrel and the top of the cross, sharpen the edges, add a bit more detailing and decals, and put a full black circle around the opening for the hand trigger, but generally speaking, how's it look?
Any comments on what to improve on, etc?

Another thing I was wondering about was does anyone know if something like this would possibly slide at a Convention like ACen where props can only be 4" tall? (my cross stands 5'8" and weighs 53 lbs) If all else fails, I'll only use it for the Costume contest.
All comments are appreciated!

I can guarantee it won't fly at A-Cen. They were cutting down on the wrapped punishers last year.

Kudos for attempting this design! I really like the way the bottom portion of the cross turned out... but flash isn't very forgiving on the cross. ^_^

The tape is really obvious... not sure what to suggest to fix it, but it's not an easy project. Congrats on the results! I wish I could see it in person. ^^

Excellent job. I can tell you've worked hard on it. I have to however agree with your other critic in saying that the tape is a bit of a stand out.

However it is one of the best cross punishers I've ever seen, even with the tape.

0_0 (< Is amased) good job, very good job! ^_^ I really think that it came out well although they are right, you can see the tape, but it's better than what I'll ever be able to do! ^_^

The tape is obvious but not too bad. ^^ it's really good and pretty accurate of how it should look . I also agree with Senko-chan, it is better than something I can ever make on my own too XD

O_O Cool!!! Great job, even with the noticeable tape. I would never ever ever in a million years be able to make something that good. Especially out of wood.

And you did that in one week? Wow.

*Tony the Tiger voice* It's grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!

It's good. You can tell the tape is there, but it isn't totally obvious. Good job.

I am making a full sized working (sounding anyways) punisher cross for a customer and was hoping to take it to a convention are you saying they will not allow any prop over 4 foot? This thing will be near 5'6" when completed
These are some rough blueprints from the planning stages

also a newly completed gunblade

Thanks for the info!

Nice gunblade! After looking back, I'm starting to learn alot from this cross. It was based on the anime, not the manga, and it has A LOT of room for improvement. The convention I took it to was Anime Central, (ACEN) I only got away with having it outside or in the photoshoots in the corners, but because of a constant battle with security, I had to keep it in my hotel room 95% if the con. It ended up looking more polished than it does in the pictures above, (as seen below)

The total size was 5"6' and it weighed 70+ lbs... I'm going to embark on making the manga styled cross this summer, and redo my wolfwood costume to accompany the manga style as well. (the same styled one you're doing for the buyer) with a much better level of experience. Good luck~

I see you've got pictures at Acen... *recognizes the hotel*
It was kind of funny to see all the mini-cross punishers because they wouldn't allow the full sized ones in. I really like yours... I wish I could have seen it there. I would have taken a picture of it.

Why weren't you in the Masq with that thing?! If they allowed the Neko Bus on, they would have allowed your 6 foot tall prop just into the Masq, I'm sure.
