Isn't his suit made out of spandex or material that is similar to it?

blue and red spandex, just look for the pattern or make it yourself. i guess you would need to look for the right pattern for the body suit. I guess is you would need a lot of reference pictures to get the patterns right.

Sorry for not being very helpful, just donít know a lot about spandex body suits.

www.kwiksew.com sells a lot of patterns for stretchy material. However, they are in the womens section. You could just buy a larger size and modify it slightly (or have a seamstress sew it for you).

Another idea would be to get a plain white white bodysuit and paint it the colors of spidermans (airbrush, maybe). Or a blue one and sew red spandex on top, or red and do the same with blue. (I think blue base would be easier, from what I remember his outfit to be).

You could use black puffy paints (tulip brand, I think) to make the black lines on his outfit. You could use fabric paint for the spider (or paint the lines on as well, instead of puffy paints). That might be best if you have an artsy friend do it while you are wearing the suit, so the lines are in the right place.

Red spandex gloves for his, to cover the edges of the suit. Make red bootcovers, or modify a pattern to include 'booties'. YOu can cover slippers (possibly from the womens department) with the red spandex, and have velcro or something to keep them up? (not sure about that... ) Or something stiff on the inside of them, like interfacing. Also, check out the dance sites for..um, proper underwear (no idea what it's called). Spandex can be revealing, and many men don't wear the proper support. It would also improve the overall shape and line of the costume, and probably make you less conscious about it as well.

Try this site (going thru the leotards or anything that sounds like a bodysuit) if you want to buy one. I hear they are good quality. http://www.riversedgedancewear.com/

Good luck with everything! I don't remember exactly what he looks like, so a pic would help.... and let us know which "version" you are trying to make (movie, cartoon, old cartoon, etc).

Spider man was jumped after sneaking into Otakon 2003! Not really, he snuck into but wasn't quite jumped.
The whole spandex thing can be difficult to actually sew, I recommend doing the hand stitching method when you can(like when merging
blue and red on the legs or arms). Yeah, doing the lines after the red is set and tight is a good idea, I found rolling a piece of posterboard into the legs/arms/waist(?) helps "ink the web" on (there's a title for ya).
A quick shout across the room got me to mention those
opera like gloves, but I guess you'd have to go for a large or "men's"
I know a friend that got some link(guys) tights fairly cheap, might try
renaissance fair costume stuff N accessories
Hoep that helped a bit, some steps can be skipped if peices are done for ya!
