So I have the Lolita down.. I guess it comes almost naturally being a young high school girl ne?
Now all I need is the Gothic!

Any tips or advice on becoming a EGL/GL from the experts here at cosplay.com ? Any EGL/GL stories?

well...

one, you can't talk. if you must communicate, use cherades, or become telepathically linked with a friend and drag them around to translate you.

two, if you are wearing dark colors, you cannot smile. infact, smiling for lolitas is generally a no-no all around.

three, your curls must bounce. I don't care how, but they have to.

four, you must wear shoes that are impossible to walk in - ie, 7 inch plat/heel thy-high pvc bubble-toe boots.

............. =P

he he. I think Soshi got all the main points! But really, if you have the Lolita, all you really need is a big puffy skirt and some dark colors along with the other tips given. It's so hard to remain expressionless though, let alone quiet (for me at least).

crosses are always good. Even if you aren't gothic, or arent christian, if you have a gothic looking cross fake-rosary or a necklace, people will look and say "oo, goth."

Spikes of any kind generaly tend to be labeled gothic around my town x.x So pair that with some lace, and just confuse people. :-D

If you wear makeup, go with dark. Dark berry lipgloss looks more gothic than clear or pink ^.^

Wow. o.o;

hrm.
I have the bouncy curls already,I guess now I have an excuse not to straighten my hair anymore from thouse annoying things
-_-

Darker clothes I can do,and pretty much already do.
Poofy skirts I may have to get used too as well as all the makeup ^^;

but the only thing i'l have a major problem with is the no smiling. expressions or talking.

Cherades sounds fun though xD

I would reccomend (if you don't have it already) buying one of the Gothic and Lolita Bible books.....

I find them quite handy....and they have a ton of pics.....I think they run basically 20 bucks a piece....I just got one today (It had a section on Mana from MM....^^) that had some patterns in it....

Here is just some other random stuff:

1. Platforms....they really are not that bad if you get used to them...

2. Crosses....a very cool accessory

3. Cute little dresses ^^

4. Lots of black, white and, burgundy colors...

5. Purses!

6. Lace and frills

7. Drapes or long coats

8. Hosery of fishnet of some kind....

9. Dark makeup...anything that looks dramatic...

Also, very are many types of Gothic and Lolita fashion types...the more elegant stuff seems to have a lot of long dresses snd frilly rennasance type of a look...or there is a more "cuter" look too...in lighter colors....they also seem to be more child like and have the outragiously tall platform shoes...

They actually have a whole section about hair in my new Gothic Lolita book.....curls will look really good..

Poofy skirts take some getting used to ^^;....I think putting on makeup is rather fun...

I had the no smile thing down pat since I was born XD....

I bought mine at a local Japanese bookstore...i was actually looking to buy the book Fruits (I would also reccomend that ^^) but they were sold out....but the lady was really nice and showed me the Gothic and Lolita Bible....she told me that they had been selling out really quick and that they were quite popular...

So if you have any sort of Japanese bookstore around you I would look out for it...

No problem...some of the older ones are a bit hard to find but they are deffinetly worth the hunt....I just wish I could own all of that stuff in the book....when I get older I would like to be in the fashion bussiness.....or be a makeup artist and I really love the Gothic and Lolita style...I would make my own line of gothic/lolita clothes and makeup...^^

Soshi got must of it down, but you can talk. So when you do make it short, courtous, and to the point, plus it's a good idea to be quite most of the time and only talk when someone asks you something or if you feel you must give your opinion..big thing about Gothic Lolita is Modesty! ( mana and only a few other EGLs never talk,and if they do only when introducing themsevles, but thats your choice of which ever way to choose! ) and yes no smiling when it comes to EGL xD!

I hoped that help a litte bit!

Oh plus if you have more of a personality where you like to smile and talk, I would suggest Sweet lolita, plus thats very popular with curls!

P.S. your so lucky you have curls!! It takes me about 2 hours to get mine curled!

I plan on doing Loli or some thing related some time soon, so here's what I've gathered.
1)curls are great, but there are other hair styles (curls being the prefured though)
2)make up you want to look natural
3)for Lolita, gothic or not, the rule is modesty.

Don't quote me though, I'm not an expert, just what I've gathered reading around the EGL forum.

That would be thr best place to start.
