View Full Version : Fake tan, without fake tanning goo?

Is such a thing even possible? I ask because I'm looking to cosplay as Hale from Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu (sample here (http://lunaticsea.deep-ice.com/gallery/junk/junglehale.jpg)), and I'm not the most sun-worshipping guy out there. That, and none of the other characters I'm doing on the same weekend are as tanned. I'm just curious if there's a reasonable way to darken one's appearance a bit temporarily, in lieu of getting that instant tan shmutz (How long does that stuff even last, anyway? Is it like a wash-off thing, or does it actually chemically induce real tanning; I've never used it so I'm curious.).
I've got some ideas and resources (woo small theatrical makeup kit) that I could use if all else fails, but they would be kind of time consuming, so if there's anyone out there who knows of a cool, quicker fix, I'd be glad to listen.

I would suggest using a bronzer or some ben nye makeup. Scortia, a member on these boards did Akio from Utena and he's very tanned and she used cake makeup from that brand. Anything else tanning wise such as lotions, spray tanners for legs and the airbrush tanning last just as long as a sun made tan since it reacts with the your skin to make your darker. So you look at a bit over a week of tan if you used those products. .

I think at least one of the makeup pallettes I have is Ben Nye, and they are good stuff, definitely. Looks like I may end up taking the time to cover my face, arm, and legs though... >_< Ah well.

I've gotten one of those spray-on tans before, and it worked pretty well for me. (the kind where you go to a tanning salon and you stand inside a thing and it sprays you for a few seconds) I don't know if it would get you as dark as you'd want, though... I got the lowest you could get and it made me about a shade darker, I guess. It lasted about a week.
That may not be at all what you want to do... and it works differently on different people (my friend got the same amount as me and got darker), but I thought I'd at least offer up the idea.

I made a post about this in the Anime/Manga costume discussion.
It's in the "What makes a good Ed?" thread. I use self tanners and love them.

I think I would go with a bronzer or dark makeup if you want to do characters that aren't tan during the same weekend.

I'm a huge fan of the spray tan. It works really well on me. (but I'm really pasty) It lasts for about a week. It didn't show up on my fiancÚ, but he's very dark anyway. I'm super pasty.

Yeah, the mystic/spray tan usually turns out really nice and even, and is realatively inexpensive and very quick. I think it takes a couple times to get it really tan, but I suppose it all depends on how tan you'd like to be.

However, Mystic Tans are pricey - about $30-40 a visit.
A good compact of cake makeup by Ben Nye would only cost you about $15 and is reusable :)
