CN Anime wants you!
As many of you already know, CN Anime (The Canadian National Anime Expo) will be taking place August 27-29, at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto, Ontario.

Well, this year, the convention would like to expand its content and add some new activities, such as panels and workshops. This is where you come in. In order to have activities such as these, they need people who are interested to organized and run them. For example, if you'd like to see a panel or workshop on a specific anime, or on cosplay, or on anything really, and are willing to help organize and run the panel, CN would love to have you help out.

In previous years, CN Anime has tried to expand its content and activities, but due to a lack of volunteers and participation, it hasn't really been able to. People often complain about a lack of activities at CN, and if you're one of these people, why not be part of the solution?

And so, there will be a CN meeting held on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 1:00pm at the Strathcona Hotel (http://www.toronto.com/infosite/149386/) in downtown Toronto for anyone interested. ^^

Also, CN Anime has some staff openings right now. So if you're interested in helping out, as well as learning what goes on behind the scenes of one of Canada's largest conventions, please feel free to attend. It wouldn't just be excellent experience, it would be a fun job to boot. ^^

In a nutshell: CN is having a meeting for anyone interested on July 4. It's time to brainstorm some great ideas. I hope to see some of you there. ^^

Please feel free to comment with any and all questions, suggestion, comments. ^^

Just wondering, does anything like admission fees get covered by CNAnime if the volunteers volunteer for a certain amount of hours like at AnimeNorth? (I want to go, but I doubt I can afford to go) :(

Hmmmm. This is very interesting to me (workshops, panels, etc.). Unfortunately, I will be attending Toronto Trek this weekend, and quite unable to make the meeting on Sunday - especially considering that most of the costuming track panels that I'm involved in at Trek (along with many others from this board) are on Sunday.

Please keep us posted on what you come up with, I'm sure there are many people here that would like to be involved!

I actually haven't the fogiest. But it would be reasonable. Why not pop by the meeting and see? That way, you can help with the discussion as well. ^^

It seems the volunteer meeting for the other three sub-cons is going to be sometime in August. Those who can make the Anime may be able to make the SFX one (or maybe Hobbystar forgot to update the volunteering page for the other sub-cons?)

I can't find any info on open staff positions (just curious).

I'd be interested in this, for all of the portions of the con. Man, if I can get free on Sunday...

I'm sure many people would be interested in supporting new programming and helping out, UNFORTUNATELY, your meeting date is on the same day as Toronto Trek, so a good number of these people, will be attending either as congoers or staff. Is there any alternative way to express interest and/or get information about getting involved?

:jjacks: Speaking of CNA dont' forget people that we will need responsible and reliable volunteers who care about cosplay/masquerade to volunteer to be ninjas, and den mothers. :jjacks:

Great to see people taking a proactive approach to the hobby!
Cheers!

~Kai

I'd love to go to the meeting, but I live 3 hours away from Toronto. That's why saving admission money would rule cause then I can put that towards transportation or a hotel or something. Perhaps something will come up so that I can get in, but it's doubtful. :(

I noticed it was during Toronto Trek. Not my personal choice, but generallythe people who run CN are a tad...oblivious to the rest of teh world. And they wanted to have the meeting ASAP. I don't know when the other meetings will be, but I think they may be soon- and may even be a part of the Sunday meeting as is.
Jo Canadian- Just to note, that's a Sunday. ^^
I'm glad there's interest in this, even if you cant actually come. It's good people still care.
I'd love to be a stage ninja/den mother, but I'm in the group for the Masq already, so that's out.......
Actually *evil idea*

I know the volunteering info probably better that neccessary as I've been volunteering at CN for the past couple of years (and I also enjoy reading and rereading info on the con sites and going to meetings and all the stuff ppl aren't supposed to enjoy).

Volunteers are required to do 8 hrs in order to have their membership refunded.

There're seperate meetings this year as opposed to the usual one general volunteer meeting in August form previous years.

However, since the only sperate meeting I've heard of so far is the one for CNAnime, I'm guessing that the other volunteer meeting in August will still be more or less general.

You should probably contact Matt Pitman sometime soon (he's the volunteer coordinator for CN). You can request to volunteer for a specific event or something, but no guarentees that he'll be able to give you the specific shift you want.

However, usually, if you stick around the volunteer/info desk around the time that an event you want to volunteer for, you can usually get into exactly what you want. The shifts (although they do assign shifts) are not strict at all, unlike AN. Most people just volunteer whenever.

One thing to take into consideration before you sign on as a volunteer (or try for a staff opening), especially since this is a cosplay forum, is that staff and volunteers are required to wear the staff shirt while their working, so if you want to cosplay, you really can't volunteer at the same time unless you can incorporate an XL staff shirt w/ the Ebay logo into your costume. =/

Actual staffers pretty much work full time for the con, so if you plan to have some freedom to enjoy the con and do as you please, staff won't work. Same with cosplaying. It's IMPOSSIBLE to cosplay and be on staff at the same time (unless, once again, you manage to make the costume around the staff t-shirt).

Amy- thanks VERY much for that heads up. This is the first year I'm helping out CN myself, so I couldn't answer a lot of questions, lacking the BG.
I hope I see a few people at the meeting, Toronto Trek et all.
See you at the con!

I didn't recall seeing it posted on other forums. Is it too late to join the staff? Is there an address I can email?

O.O;; Fanboy in the Fangirl Service room doesn't sound right...How'd you get stuck with that?

CN volunteers get too much freedom. We pretty much are allowed to run amock most the time. It's never too late to sign up for volunteering for CN. The only thing about CN volunteering that's not more lenient than AN is that volunteers must be at least 16, but most ppl never have any problems with that...unless they're youngens. XD

Ze Meeting!

But frankly I would be more motivated to go volunteer concerning Comic Book/Sci-Fi panels or events because those portions are extremely lacking.

The meeting wasn't bad- it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be, since I tend to but heads with silver a bit. He has this tendancy to write things off with the phrase "It's not my problem" which infuriates me to no end.

But if you'd stiill like to volunteer, e-mail them at their website and let them know. Keep and eye on this thread as well, there's going to be a second meeting in august to solidify everything, and I'll post about it then. ^^
