I think everyone can breathe a collective sigh of relief now.

*stops bugging her Otakon staffer buddies* Awww, if only it were a week later and it would have been on my 18th b-day! *saaaad*

Heehee ^_^

So who's going?

YAY! ...*checks out those hotels, see if they have a microwave and fridge like the Days Inn*
Hm... Isn't one of them connected to the BCC? I think I'll go for that....
*does more hotel research* ^^;

I *think* (I should check) I stayed in the Hyatt last year, which was connected by that skywalk from the BCC... very convenient! I think that after the Days Inn (that's the one directly across the street, right?), it is the next closest. They didn't give a con discount, but I got a nice price thanks to AAA. I'd recommend it.

I'm hoping to go this year, but I'm getting away from the east coast... so it might not happen. However, I might be able to attend all those fun west coast cons instead. ^^

The Sheraton is connected RIGHT to the BCC and is RIGHT THERE. But it doesn't have Otakon rates. In fact, they don't really like Otakon that much anyway ^_^*

Only problem; it's expensive.

Taught me to get my cheap hotel rooms early. I had to stay there for 2001.

Doc Stampede
12-03-2002, 08:46 PM
The only two hotels directly linked to the BCC are the Hyatt and the Sheraton. Neither have a contract with Otakon.

We *do* have more hotels coming tho.

The Otakon website has not been updated yet, however the location map is accurate.

Yay!

I want to stay at the Holiday Inn this year, but last year they didn't announce their rates until very late. My birthday is August 12th, this is going to rock! Thanks for announcing it!

You want to let me stay with you....!!!! o_o $49!?!?! Wow!!!

Seriously, people, if you (or someone who might be staying with you) has AAA membership or something like that, try for the super convenient hotels- the discounts can be great!

Ah, I'm glad that Otakon is going to be in August in 2003, so it won't conflict with any cons, or be the weekend AFTER another big con like AX or SDCC. This year, I went to Otakon, flew home on a Sunday, worked for 3 days, and then went to San Diego Comic Con.. talk about 2 busy weekends in a row! :thumbsup:

Since I now know the dates, I'm going to try for the Days Inn for the Otakon weekend, since I know that place fills up the quickest, being the CLOSEST hotel to the BCC.. Last year I roomed with Lionel, Elfeater, Song, and Maryssa at the Holiday Inn, but it's still good to be as close to the BCC as possible, since rain, humidity, Baltimore Orioles fans, and other hazards can delay your fun that weekend.. :devil: I might make the reservation tonite, so we'll see.

> You want to let me stay with you....!!!! o_o $49!?!?! Wow!!!

If you really want to.. ^_-

I know there will be myself and Kellie, and I sent my mom an email telling her to get the biggest room she can get (sometimes I get upgraded to suites! LOL!) sooo.. we'll see! I'm sure I could stuff a few more people in there somewhere!

I think this is the only perk of having a mom who works in the hotel business.. ^__^;

Thank you so much for getting this information. I will be getting a room too! I'll get a room with two beds if anyone wants to share. Don't know which hotel yet though...but i have AAA.

Hehe....my birthday is a week after that, on the 15th. ^^; But I'm so glad they announced the dates! If it's one thing I learned from Otakon 2002:
reserve a room, and do it early! I'm doing that this coming Otakon! And stay with friends whom you can trust! I can't stress that enough.
I didn't, and I was supposed to have stayed with some people but there were problems (I had a falling-out with the guy -_-) and I had to ask around if anyone had room to spare. I found someone, but then my mother wouldn't let me stay with them (she wanted to meet the people I was supposedly staying with), and SHE managed to get a room for Friday only at the Holiday Inn that very same day! Of course it was ass-expensive, but she got it! o_O; So my Otakon plans changed....I could only stay Friday and Saturday. I had to go back to Washington DC Saturday night...and I had pre-registered too. -_-;;;
Sorry that was so long.....but I had to share that. ^^; But Otakon was so much fun for me, I have to go back next year!

Ok, I've called the Inner Harbor Wyndham, and they said there is no discount for those nights. Is anyone else having this problem?

KuroBara- Not yet, but I plan on calling the Days Inn...course, online it's saying they have "no rooms for those dates". Exsqueeze me?? WTF?? So I'll be calling them around lunchtime to talk to them. We'll be using our AAA discount, since the Otakon rate isn't mentioned yet (wants a Days Inn room).

I like the Days Inn... it's right across the street, and has microwaves and refrigerators in the rooms.... so.... less money spent on food, more in the dealers room >=D

Well, still gotta wait for the negotiations with them....

Heheh, I'll have to "screen" you at Katsucon.. you know, have you fill out some liability forms, ask prying questions about your past, you know the deal. ^_-

Honestly, it all depends on what kind of room they can get me.. I'll know next week, once the liason for the hotel my mom works at gets back from her vacation in the sunny Bahamas.. *envy*

>Kuro...No, do not stay there. They stiffed me last year.

How so? It's just that last year I paid $199 / night for the inner harbor marriott, and they screwed up everything. There weren't enough beds, one of the rooms wasn't ready at the same time as the other, and there was a giant hellbug (cockroach) sharing our room. Yum. So, Days Inn is good?

SailorAndromeda
12-04-2002, 05:02 PM
Yes, I stayed at the Wyndham in 2001, and the Days Inn last year. I am also happy to say that I'll be at the Days Inn this year. If you call the Days Inn Inner Harbor, they apparently are offering the Otakon rate already. it's $125 a night. The Wyndham was nice (elevators were slow as crap), but it was kinda far for my taste. Days Inn is nice and close ^^
Close enough to run back and get an umbrella when it started raining on the line to get in on Friday.
So my personal choice is Days Inn. Besides, most of the staff was very nice, the bell clerk even liked my cat ears I wore Thursday, hehe ^^

Okay, so you win the "Hotels that suck in Baltimore" contest. ^_^

Basically the Whyndam lied to me and said that I reserved June 19th when I did it in late January. They basically charged me $209 instead of the $129 con rate.

Granted I did forget my CN, they still lied about the date. I would've been more accepting if they told the truth.

If you're having that problem, try telling them that it is part of "Otakorp, Inc." --> They may still have an issue with what name the room block is listed under.

12-05-2002, 01:26 AM
i wanna stay at some place close too

when i went to Otakon in '00, we stayed at the Sheraton and they didn't have our reservation on file. funny thing was, a week before we left, we got a letter from the Sheraton that we were staying at, asking for our opinion of our stay. and it had some weird guy's name on the envelope o_O

last year we stayed at the Wyndam and like Sailor Andromeda said, it was way to far >_<

anything close and won't screw up our reservations is fine by me ^_^;

Gah!*bangs head on the desk* I kept meaning to look at this thread, but kept putting it off 'cause I was too lazy to click the back button a few times and log in. As soon as I see my group coordinator I'm gonna see if she can still get the Day's Inn Otakon rate. $125/night is fantastic and certainly a better walking distance than the Radisson!

I've not heard any good things about Wyndham. I read on one MB that someone was charged $90 for using electricity!*eyes swirl* We stayed at the Sheraton and weren't very pleased with them (the walkway closes at 8PM I believe, so you have to walk all the way around the block to get into the building if you stay out late), and they never gave us clean towels. We loved the Hyatt (even if the elevators were hella slow), but they're still too expensive for us, even with the AAA discount.

I hope Day's Inn still has some rooms open!*crosses fingers* Thank you so much for the great information!
