I'm looking to put together a "Cosplay Picnic" in Southern Orange County at a really beautiful park in a forest-like area. Would any So-cal people be interested?

That sounds like a good idea even though I live in Pasadena...^_^ so I suppose I can say count me in...? if it all works out I think...

I'm hoping to do it in the fall of this year or sometime next year. I just need to set up a donation fund, contact a few companies about sponsorship, and arrange a price for attendance. It probably seems lame to ask for people to pay for their "badge" at something so small like that but, this will go towards the FREE FOOD we'll have.

Milai Sapphire
07-15-2004, 03:18 PM
That's not a bad idea...I'm guessing the price depends on how many people take you up on the idea...if there are a lot of people that would make sense...but if it's a small amount...it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle...:)

Right now I'm looking for companies to contact about sponsorship. If anyone has any ideas, please tell me!

EDIT: I'm also looking for staff, anyone interested?

I am definitely interested in attending. :)

We're still working out the area and date, I've contacted a few comic/import stores about becoming sponsors and we'd really love to have a few tables set up for selling manga and anime.

I've been looking into state parks, but the one I've called about that has a picnic area on the bluff, Registration is $500 - totally out of our budget unless we do good on getting donations.

I'll be bring my BBQ and grilling up burgers and such, and It'd be great if we could put together some sort of potluck, perhaps?

Any other ideas on location (LA, Orange County area - please?) would really help. Also, I'm still looking for staff! Please help us out! ;o;

count me in, I'm really up for this. PM me if you need anything.

Sakurada

Great! Okay, so here is an update.

Location - I've contacted several parks in the Anaheim area, all of them BEAUTIFUL parks, not just plain ones. I even contacted one that is an old court house. Hopefully one of them can accomadate us.

Date - I'm hoping around Halloween. Halloween is on a Sunday, so if no one wants to give up their Halloween... We'll do it on Saturday? If you guys have any suggestions, please tell me.

Events - I want to set up some games and such. Again, suggestions are appreciated! Also, it'll be a great photo shoot opritunity with some great scenery!

Food - I've contacted Pizza-hut and Subway about discounts when buying a lot of food for an event. If I don't get any word from them, or the price is out of our budget we might do a potluck. The potluck will have a few of restrictions for health risk reasons, because, I don't want people getting sick. We'll also have a "set" list of things people should bring if they want to bring food. I'll require all "home-recipes" to be registered with me, meaning.. all you have to do is tell me what you WANT to bring.

Buy and Sell- I'm trying to find comic and anime stores who want to bring some wares to sell, but either way we'll be having an auction. Bring in all your old anime, manga, cds, and memorabilia and we'll sell it off!

If you're wondering, this is completely non-profit. Anything we don't spend from this year will go for next year's Akibiyori.

Okay, as for my comment earlier about Registration, we've decided to sell the tickets for $10, this will pay for our food so that you all can enjoy free food at the picnic. If there is any reason you feel this price is too expensive, please tell me and we'll put it up for discussion. I, however feel it's resonable for all you can eat free food.

We'll also have some specialty japanese snacks, food, and the sort for sale.

awww, halloween... I'll be long gone in the navy. Any chance of getting this up off the ground before sep 15? haha, it's ok. I'll miss all you guys though!

Aww, well, like I said, I need help setting up things.. so if you have time and want to help out I'd appreciate it :3 Sorry you can't make it though!

I wouldn't mind attending. I'll even be part of the staff too, you just have to give me a specific date though so I can get that day off from work. Could I still cosplay though? Also, $10 bucks is reasonable if free food will be given out.

As for location, I wouldn't know. I live in Santa Clarita (where ani-magic is taking place, in Valencia) Have you contacted Anime Plus for sponsership, they're in Northridge.

Keep me posted on this and PM me if you need any help. Let's hope this will work.

Sakurada
07-16-2004, 01:52 AM
Staff members are more than welcome to cosplay, weíre just going to have special badges or something so people know we're part of the staff.

Here are more updates for everyone.

Date - The date is set for Saturday, October 30th. Time hasn't been decided. We've decided to make this a "Halloween party" of sorts, but you are not required to dress up if you'd like to attend.

Sponsors - I've contacted Mile High Comics and Super Collector in Garden Grove, as well as several companies I saw online who are in the So-cal Area. These include J-list, Anime Plus, and Cartoon Passion. If anyone knows anymore companies, please tell me even if you don't think they'd sponsor us. It's worth a try anyway, right?

Events - A friend has suggested I get someone with musical talent to play some music. Perhaps an acoustic guitar player who can play anime/video game songs? Suggestions are appreciated. We're also bringing a boom-box and my collection of Japanese music. Hopefully it'll be enjoyable enough for the picnic-ers to listen to while they eat.

Staff - We're looking for people to handle some very basic jobs. These include passing out the badges (must have nice handwriting), Taking promo photos for the site (Digital camera required), Taking photos for guests (Guests provide the cameras), Auctioneers (for the auction), Quality Checkers for Auction, and so forth.

Staff members will still pay the required $10 fee unless they provide food for the picnic. Sorry, guys.

Food and Such- Here are a list of things we're going to need for the picnic, if you can provide these, please tell me via PM.

- Chips and Assorted dips
- Burger Buns, Hotdog buns
- 2-liter bottles of soda, 12 packs (Diet will also be appreciated)
- Bags of ice
- Several large Ice chests
- Tables (Important!!)
- Batteries for Boom-box
- Anime/Video Game OSTs, J-pop CDs (You WILL get these back)

(List will be on site and updated regularly)

Sales- People who would like to sell some candy, specialty food, and such can bring their own table and set it up. You will be required to show up two hours before the picnic. You will only have to pay a fee to help pay for our registration fees if we end up reserving a part of the park. Any money you make is free to keep.

Auction- We will have the auction later in the day, the money made is yours. Your items must be turned into a staff member prior to the auction for a quality check. If we decline your item, it was only because it was of poor quality, was broken, torn, missing pages, etc. Please bring good-quality items. You may set starting price.

Donations- Donations are appreciated before or after Akibiyori Picnic. Anything not spent during this yearís picnic will be saved for next year. Weíll take whatever you can offer, even if itís just food or a few dollars.

Website- With luck, the website will be up by the end of July. If I get my ass moving, hopefully we can get it up next week.

Costume Contest- Weíre going to have a best in show costume contest for attendees Ė ONLY if there are enough members attending. Hopefully, a sponsor will provide gift certificates to the winners if not weíll find another prize.

Feedback is appreciated, Please PM or email me (go@egosyste.org) if you are interested in staff positions.

Wow Sakurada...you're putting a lot of thought and effort into this. I really am amazed at your dedication. *is Sakurada's biggest fan now* ^_^ If there is anyway in which I can help out let me know...like phone calls or something like that. Also, I would love to be part of the staff, but I have to make sure I'll be able to go since I have college and we're on the quarter system...so I just would have to see what's going on during that weekend (hopefully no midterms so soon). Plus I would have to find a means of transportation...since I don't have the car for my first year in university...-_- But I would be willing to help out to the best of my ability, and maybe donate something...:toothy:

Sakurada
07-16-2004, 03:18 AM
well, yeah.. you know me.. Perfectionist and all. My sister thinks I'm a nerd, my mom thinks I'm over doing it, but I think it should all go fine!

As for help, if you know of some anime stores or comic stores around you it'd be great if you could give then a call. We'll discuss details if you want to contact me via aim later.

I'd really like to have you on the staff, and hope you can attend, after all.. you were the person who made me get on the ball! (I thought no one would ever respond!)

So kiddles, let's work hard to make the Picnic go great! <3

Milai Sapphire

I think you're doing a great job! ^_^ Better than I ever would do. Umm, I think I know some anime stores...well *re-thinks that one* Hmm...maybe not...but I am sure there are many in other places other than Pasadena...I think there might be one next to UCLA (where I'll be in a couple of months). I'll be sure to look into it. Maybe tomorrow in the morning. But I should probably talk with you about what you would like me to ask of them, as you are the mastermind behind all of this...^_^

Sakurada
07-16-2004, 03:32 AM
Aww, thank you! Yeah, just contact me. All you really need to tell them is you're looking for a sponsor for a "Cosplay and Otaku" gathering. And that if they need more information they can contact me (go@egosyste.org).

But we'll talk it over if you want to contact me. As for everyone else who has asked about the staff jobs, I'll be writting up the content for the website so you guys can get a better idea of it all.

Milai Sapphire
07-16-2004, 03:51 AM
Sounds good to me. I'll try to do what I can on that project. I think when I went to the anime expo there were some people from different anime stores and stuff. Some gave out information I think...I'll look into it. ^_^ I think it's my bedtime though...

Hmm! I'll see. By that time, I will have my permit, and my brother will be able to drive. And if I can go, my brother knows some Anime tunes on guitar, and I accompany him on electric bass... We could always learn some until then. I'll have to see if I can come though.

Have you looked at Bonelli Park in San Dimas (next to Raging Waters)?
http://areas.wildernet.com/pages/area.cfm?areaID=CALAFB&CU_ID=157
Another great park...huuuuge picnic areas. I don't know how much reserving a space costs though I think it's worth a look if you haven't decided on a place yet.

Sakurada
07-16-2004, 05:06 PM
So far I've gotten two replies from parks, both said that we couldn't do sales tables. So I'm worried that we'll have to cancel the auction and such as well.

EDIT: I'm working on the content for the site, I'm putting up the forums for Akibiyori tonight, I'll have them linked on the main page of the website. There you can get updates and discuss cosplaying for the picnic and such there.

Yeah! This looks great! I have some ties to the Stater Bros. chain of grocery stores, so I could probably get as much buns and chips and soda as we need. It all depends if it's not TOOOOO much. I want to be a staff member! Yes.... I want to be a staff member with power and authority over ALL... Seriously though... I'm off from school, and I quit my job... I'm going nuts and have TOO much time (I've made so many prop swords in the past 2 weeks it's not even funny...) So yeah I can do alot for this.... I'm willing to do alot, too! Pm me!

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 03:47 AM
Really ties with Staters? XD My uncle is the manager of the Stater Bros in Norco~ Haha XD! But, yeah! Hambuger buns, chips, soda - those are extremely important otherwise we'd be serving up...grounded beef clumps... o_o

Like I said, we need a lot of random staff members so I'll be sending a PM out to everyone who's offered. If anyone else who hasn't posted yet but is interested - Basically, we're pretty much good on potential Staff so far but if i need anyone else I'll open it up again.

As soon as I get a few more pages of the site up, I'll be able to give you all information.

Sakurada

Double post, sorry.. But it has NOTHING to do with the previous post.

The theme for this year's picnic has been decided - Mogmatsuri, the Festival of Moogles. This means most of our decorations and stuff will be moogles ^_^;;

Staff Members, sometime later on I'll need your head measurments because I'm making you all moogle hats. You won't be required to wear them or anything, but it'd be cool if you did! I'm even making Yuna's festival dress with the moogles on it for my cosplay outfit~

Shin-1chi
07-17-2004, 01:05 PM
I'm game for this ... always looking for an excuse to wear my gear outside of a convention/airsoft game. ^__^

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 02:28 PM
Great! hope to see you there! :D

Today the following pages of the official site will be going up:

- Rules/Regulations
- Forums
- Contact

If you want to register now, PM me for address to send registration fee to. I'll be moving in August so this will be a temp address.

As for a question I got earlier via email, The theme does NOT mean you all have to dress up as Moogles. This just means that we'll be making moogle themed decorations and I hope to get a cake made for us with a Moogle on it. Some staff members may be wearing Moogle-beanies, and I'll be wearing a Moogle Kimono (the FFX-2 Intenternational Yuna Festival Kimono). We would like to see some moogles, however and are looking for a Moogle cosplayer to be our mascott.

I'd love to MC any live events if there's a spot open for it ^_^

I second that, I've saw Gainax boy at AX, he is really out going. So he would probably be a good MC.

Staff Members, sometime later on I'll need your head measurments because I'm making you all moogle hats.

How exactly should I measure my head?

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 02:32 PM
Just take a piece of thread and wrap it around your head and then use a ruler to measure how many inches your head is around. If you have a dress-makers tape measurer, thatíd be great to use. ^_^ I just need to know roughly how much fabric I'll need to buy for everyone's heads! ^_^;

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 03:43 PM
Double Post, for off the topic reason...

Okay, guys. I've been having several people tell me how their midterms will be during the week we've schedualed the picnic. Does anyone here have the same problem? Should we set a different date? Topic is up for dicussion.

dEmEnTeDcHiCkEn
07-17-2004, 07:31 PM
Oh, man... In need to think of a costume with a forest setting to make. *sigh* Maybe I'll just use the old KH Cloud... That thing will never die.

BTW, what's the weapons policy? Because I might have a foam sword...

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 07:57 PM
As long as your weapon isn't made out of metal, it's pretty much fine. Wood is good too, but if we see you using it inapropriately we'll ask you to take it back to your car or put it under a table.

If you're using a foam sword, that should be fine ^^; Weapons policy is up on the rules page of the site under cosplay.

Seig Warheit
07-17-2004, 08:18 PM
Hmm.. Now I have to do something moogly. I know you said we don'thave to, but still.... How about a moogle head on Cloud's shoulder armor instead of the Fenrir head? That'd be funny...

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 09:21 PM
ahah XD that would be interesting to see!

Updates: First off, Gainax Boy, Don't think I've forgotten, I'll PM you later tonight.

Milai Sapphire, state_alchemist, Gainax Boy, Seig Warheit - I'll be sending you the "big mass staff" pm tonight. This will have a list of jobs. I know some of you may or may not actually attend (Milai, you're still unsure, correct?) But we'll need all the production help we can get if you guys are still willing to help out. We're also going to do some staff profiles, so prepare for that! :D

I'm also looking for a bakery that could do a cake for us; this will be our "Closing" for the picnic. I'll be getting serious and calling around near beginning of October. I'm hoping for it to have a Moogle on it and say "Akibiyori Picnic 2004". Anyone know of a good bakery? Or maybe have talents when it comes to decorating cakes? :3

I think Iím going to try and pull off the auction even if we canít find a park that will allow us to sell.

Also, is anyone from our staff interested in a staff get-together prior to the picnic so we can all meet each other? I was thinking, perhaps somewhere crafty like Jo-annís so we can also pick up stuff for our costumes and then we can go out to lunch and do some general brainstorming? This would be a great way to break the ice as I feel it may be akward to meet up the very first day. We should also get together for some aim chats or something ^^;

Gainax Boy
07-17-2004, 09:45 PM
AIM chats are definitely something we should do.

As for meeting up somewhere. I'm in Ventura County.. so frequent trips out into L.A. would be killer on my budget. ^^

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 10:25 PM
I see, anyone else up for it?

But, as for AIM Chat, we'll schedual one soon, since I'll be without the internet for awhile in a few weeks during moving.

EDIT: Most of us are going to Ani-Magic, correct? Maybe we'll just have a meet up there? Or maybe a second meet up for those who couldn't make the other one?

Seig Warheit
07-17-2004, 10:30 PM
As I said, I'm up for anything, so let's do it. We should definately meet first. I already met Gainax Boy and State_Alchemist but we should get together and stuff for sure.

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 10:37 PM
Well, August is moving month and my birthday is on the 18th... So if we want to do a Meet prior to Ani-Magic, I suggest September. That way I'll have some money to be able to buy some fabric and stuff if we plan on going to a fabric store or something like that. From there, we can make plans to meet at Ani-Magic and then we should have all bases covered for the picnic at the end of October.

Seig Warheit
07-17-2004, 10:51 PM
That sounds good! Can't wait.

Sakurada
07-17-2004, 11:41 PM
Great! We'll pick a date soon.

And to the staffers, I've sent out the PM, so reply or whatever. Until then, I'm back to working on the site! :D

Milai Sapphire
07-17-2004, 11:43 PM
Yeah, umm, still trying to figure out the transportation thing for the actual event......-_- but I wouldn't mind attending a gathering for the staff, since I won't be going to Ani-magic...Meeting would be good, since I've never met any of you.

Sakurada
07-18-2004, 12:15 AM
I hope you figure out the transportation stuff!

I'm trying to figure out an area to have the staff get-together that will be convienent for most of you. Would Corona work, or does that seem too out of the way? Any suggestions would be great.

Joann's in Corona? I live like ten minutes away from there. Then we could eat at Mimi's right there...

Milai Sapphire
07-18-2004, 12:56 AM
Yeah umm...the Joann's in Corona (thanks to google and mapquest) is about 57 minutes away from my location...Is there any location in between? That might be a lot to ask, right? ^^:

Sakurada
07-18-2004, 01:03 AM
Ahah! My sister worked at that Mimi's!! XD Yeah, Off McKenely, right? That place has a lot of shops - Big lots, Wal-mart, all real close. I figure that way we can go get all the stuff we need.

The only thing is I PRAY that we'll have some sponsorship and donator money by then, that way we can actually BUY stuff for the event.. Otherwise I feel it'll be all of the staff (that can attend) buying fabric for their costumes with their own personal money.

This means... WE MUST HUSSLE! ;o;

Sakurada
07-18-2004, 01:08 AM
Ack, Milai~ Didn't see your reply. This is still undecided, but I like the area a lot since I could easily get a ride there. But, we'll look into a better area for the rest of the group once they give me an idea of how far they want to travel.

Milai Sapphire
07-18-2004, 01:10 AM
*bends head down in shame* I did a search for some places that could maybe do sponsorship, but I've been so busy lately, cause I'm getting stuff together for my college orientation from monday to wednesday, not to mention that i'll be gone practically all day tomorrow. Trying to find time in the business day to call them has been rather difficult. *sighs* Maybe I could try to squeeze it in tomorrow...call some people on my cell phone and find out. Charisma though...that's a tough one, don't think I have it....but I'll try anyway. :)

Milai Sapphire
07-18-2004, 01:12 AM
Eek i'm double posting...no one kill me...>_<

Sakurada

Don't worry too much, we have plenty of time! I think we only need to worry about things like this when October comes around~ I figure the latest we should be getting things done is September.

If anyone needs to know of the location, The Jo-ann's I'd like to go to is this one:

http://joann.know-where.com/joann/cgi/site?site=1440&address=

There's already three people who are saying that'd be easy for them to get to, so who knows.

I agree. I don't think that anyone will tell the park that we are doing it. And if we do it, I'll be glad to give some stuff to the auction. I'll give some posters and a dvd (it's import though, but it's not bootlegged)

Okay, guys. I've been having several people tell me how their midterms will be during the week we've schedualed the picnic. Does anyone here have the same problem? Should we set a different date? Topic is up for dicussion.

I figure as long as we're not loud about it? I mean, we could do anything. One of these days kiddles~ One of these days we'll have our own con and we can pretty much set the rules.. But for now, we're on county property and we have to abide by those rules because we're not puttin' out the bucks.

I think so far, the date is sticking. I like it, it's the day be for Halloween, and it's a weekend.

Alright... I talked to my brother, and he's okay with doing some anime and video game tunes with me. It's not solid, but it's a start. I'll probably have to borrow an electric guitar from my cousin, for those songs that require two guitars instead of a guitar and bass combo.

I have a bunch of sheet music for anime/games if you need any. Off the top of my head, I have Naruto, Pokemon and Macross Plus. If have need of any, I can bring/send some and I don't have it I could probably find some.

Gainax Boy, who exactly is "Midvalley the Hornfreak"? o_o;

I think it'd be great if we could get a few musical preformances. I know of one person who might be able to, and if dEmEnTeDcHiCkEn is a definate then we atleast have one.

I'm going to say it right off the bat, I'm not sure if we can use anything with electricity, but who knows the picnic areas MAY have some plugs. Also, I want someone to play Buriguri music~ XD I love the brilliant green.

I wonder if anyone knows how to contact Midvalley the Hornfreak?

Oh HELL YEAH!

Sakurada, Midvalley the Hornfreak is a character from Trigun, one of the Gung Ho Guns, who used a Saxaphone as a weapon. There is a guy who has been to the past 2 Anime Expos that I know of who plays the sax who know LOTs of anime tunes and video game tunes. He would be the perfect guy for music.

Alright, look... Me and my brother learn songs by ear, and sometimes tabs. Just PM me any song requests you may have. We will already learn a few from Chrono Cross and FF, and if you want us to play something, it has to be able to be done on either dual guitar or a guitar and bass combination. And nothing TOO complicated, we're not a pair of Nugents.

Lastly, we use electric instruments. If there are no plugs, then we can only play dual guitar, and only if I can find an extra acoustic, so you might want to investigate that first.

Sakurada
07-18-2004, 03:04 PM
Hahaha, nugents? XD

Um, we found a list of parks that offer ampitheaters to community organizations so I'm praying we fall under this catogory. (I mean, we're an organization as far as I'm concerned.) Also, as long as we reserve our area I think we're pretty much guarenteed some plugs.

Well, I was going to say Malmsteens, but no one really into hard rock would know who he is. Nugent came to mind.

Now, My brother will be able to drive by then, but we do't know how well. However, he has a Jeep, so it should fit more than a few, so we could POSSIBLY offer rides. BTW, we live in Beverly Hills, so we can pick up anyone in the vicinity, or around LA.

I think he will, though. He's seemed to come over tot he dark side more and more. First he agreed to play at the picnic, and yesterday, we agreed to do a dual cosplay at Ani-Magic. If you see a Samanosuke and Jacques from Onimusha 3, that's us!

Okay, I'll give you a list of songs (and downloads) that you could try learning if you like them enough. There's just like three or so songs I'd really love to hear played on guitar. And, I finally put the forums link up on the site (and on my sig) so If you want to take requests or something maybe you can start a thread about that?

If your still looking musicians I could play the flute. I know alots of FF and game songs and I can learn Anime songs pretty quickly, but I'll need to have some type of accompanment. Flute Solos only work in quiet settings. If we can get some Taiko drummers, then I can do the Naurto Main Theme. :) I could also do Morning and Sadness and Sorrow (also), if there was like a piano/keyboard.

Location is Fullerton, not too far from Anaheim. It's probably... about 20-30 minutes from RCC. To be technical, it's right near Brea. I live in Irvine, and it took me about 15 minutes (or less) every day to get to AX and the park is not that much further off. (For you UCI kids)

Also, if you've sent me a PM please bare with me. With all the picnic stuff and trying to get sponsors I really haven't had time to answer emails and PMs. I'll get to it tonight.

Akibiyori Staff, please check the forums tonight if you haven't already.

Tonight I'm putting up the registration form and contact information for myself. The registration form is a Microsoft Word .DOC, but I'll also make Adobe Reader and HTML versions for those of you who don't use Word. Basically... Print, fill out, and send. All checks and money orders must be made pay to the order of LACIE SEIBER - Registration is still $10 per person. You can register for more than one person per form.

Please note that checks will incur an additional $20 fee (The bank charges for bounced checks, Sorry! Just make sure your checks are cashable!) . You'll receive a confirmation email AFTER the check/money order has been cleared. There will be an on-site fee for those who didn't register, they'll just have to pay the $10 fee when they get there and we'll pray we have enough food... SO PLEASE REGISTER AHEAD OF TIME!

Also! I must note that there will be refunds! However, all refund requests must be made before October 20th; you will receive a full refund of your registration.

For those of you who use paypal, I'll be setting up my paypal account sometime this week I just need to take a trip to the bank first.

For those of you who have wondered about the musical acts please note that unless we make $250 sponsor/donation wise, weíre not going to have the ďshelterĒ area which is the only area that allows amplified sound. Any suggestions for sponsors (Iím trying everything these days, even non-local online stores, anime related magazines, and I even emailed my local news station) and donations are REALLY appreciated.

To wrap this post upÖ

Would anyone be interested in coffee and donuts in the morning when the picnic starts? I was thinking of putting out coffee and hot chocolate for the guests who want it and then maybe sell donuts (like, go get krispy kreme donuts and sell them for a dollar a donut or something?)

In addition, I want to have a little get-together at Ani-magic and possibly Anime Vegas (if I go) for those of you who are attending the picnic. Anyone interested? Maybe we can like, go eat lunch together or something.

Hi!
Me and my friend will definetely be attending. I tried looking at your site, but some of the links are broken. Do you know where in Orange County you will be having yet? I might be able to help also, however, I am just starting grad school, and I'm not sure what the work load will be like yet. I would also need a few more specifics on set time, day and place. :)

Also, for the costume contest, will it all just be one catagory? Or will you have different catagories? Also, is the cosplay directed towards anime or video games, or is it more open, kind of like a big Halloween costume party? (personal opinion: since you are trying to involve the cosplay community, and give them another opportunity to not only interact with each other, but show off 'their stuff' so to speak, perhaps it should be more anime related?)

Another idea for something to do: Karaoke! If you know someone who wants to bring a machine... :)

Let me know what you think, and PM me if you want.

Welcome Welcome, Neo Serenity!

Yes, a few of the links are still broken as the site is having a renovation right now. Our set location is Craig Regional Park in Fullerton (near Brea) It's quite close to Anaheim, so anyone who could make it to AX would probably be able to get to the park.

The date is October 30th, and the picnic starts at 10:30 AM (Opening Ceremonies), so I suggest most guests show up around 10AM, we'll be ending around 9PM when the park closes but you can leave earlier than that as most events will be held before 6PM.

Also, as I've said earlier musical stuff isn't totally for sure. We need to raise the money for the ampitheater area of the park first. But I'd love to have karaoke!

As for your question about attire, I'd like to keep it anime/manga-ish. J-pop/rock cosplay, EGL, Aristocrat, Street fashions and such are also welcome! I'd also love to see some DC and Marvel comic costuming. But don't feel like you have to dress up, feel free to go casual!

ALSO, EVERYONE - I'M PUTTING TOGETHER AN FAQ FOR THE SITE - PLEASE PM ANY GENERAL QUESTIONS YOU FEEL ARE MOST ASKED ABOUT THE PICNIC!

Hey Guys!

Wow! I'm totally stoked about the huge response this thing has gotten ^^

Anyways, as my signature points out. I am the master of ceremonies of the picnic, so I'll be the one moving the entertainment along.

And speaking of which, If any you guys wanna perform something or do a little thing at the picnic, please drop me a line and let me know (you can either do it through my messenger services or on the picnic forums http://aki.egosyste.org/forums/index.php)

But yeah, send all requests for anything regarding entertainment to me ^___^

I'll take a look at them all and try to fit everyone's needs in.

Kiddles! I put up the registration page today (late, I'm sorry!) I also put up a page for those of you who are apart of anime clubs. I should explain this portion of registration for you guys...

School or Local Anime Clubs! There is a special discount for you guys depending on members attending. In exchange, we ask that you put our banner on your site and maybe tell a few friends about us. I feel the discounts are reasonable without cutting into our food budget.

Okay, guys! I guess I should probably give you my daily update.

As I've mentioned a few times, I'll be at Ani-Magic and perhaps at Anime Vegas (no plans set for this one). Anyway! I'm pretty sure I'll be dressed up as Inuyasha for both days and I'll be spending most of my time inside the dealer room passing out flyers.

Also, our staffers are going to have a lunch get together at one of the local restaurants, and I'm thinking of putting one together for the attendees as well. (Does anyone have any interest in this at all anyways?)

I'm going to make some flyers to put on the site that you can print up and pass around to your friends or around town if anyone wants to help with advertising. Also, please not that the address for registration submissions might change in a few days because I'm going to be moving to Anaheim. (I'll greatly miss Irvine and San Clemente where I've been living in between for the past few months ;_;)

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and don't worry if you've sent anything already because it WILL make it to me. The new address will be my grandmother's address in Mira Loma.

Next up is the "Cookbook" Issue. Basically, for the potluck, a friend of mine suggested I put together a cookbook so if you plan on bringing something homemade (please do!) to the picnic, I need your "secret recipe"! XD We might make a few copies and sell 'em off for a buck or so.

UhmÖ I think that's really all I have to say for tonight. Any questions or issues regarding the picnic-- please feel free to ask either here or on our message boards as well as PM.

Thank you all for your interest! And have a great night/day/morning (depending on when you read this).

Do we want to change the date of Akibiyori? With the change in date of Yaoi Con, which I was just informed of and midterms... would you all rather have it a week before, or perhaps even in november?

Please post your thoughts.

In the event we do change our date, please note: If you have sent your registration in and are against the change, you are more than welcome to cancel your check. I haven't checked my mail since last week, so if you've sent one I haven't cashed it. Just inform me before hand, I don't want to bounce your check.

hmm... yeah.. Il Pallazo is good and all, I voted for him last year. Really did a good job in Tokyo/Puchuu relations, cutting the Afro Tax, and instigating the anti-corruption laws and mandatory trap doors in schools. I was almost ready to start planning a dinner portion (ie: ordering pizza, having one of the staff members with a car go pick it up) for the picnic if we have closing around 8:00 or 9:00 PM. But, if you guys rather go home early, it's up to you. I just think poor Gainax Boy might have to do a few program changes @_@;

ALSO! Tif, I'm still lagging. I've been hitting the bricks hard on the new Akibiyori site (which I hope to have up tomorrow).... Just PM me if you see this and then I'll PM you back.

I'm totally flexable Saku-chan ^^

I can fill up as much time as you've got :)

Especially since the majority of it is guest participation.

Hey, I noticed there was a minor problem with the mapquest address that you gave on the website. Instead of pointing to Craig Regional Park, it went to some totally different place. Anyway, here's the correct address, and umm.. yah, it would be helpful to post the address on the site too.

Address:
Craig Regional Park
3300 State College Blvd.
Fullerton, CA 92835

Phone #:
(714) 973-3180 or (714) 973-3183

----
Hmm, my friends and I are actually gettin' whacky results through mapquest. It's easier to tell people to use the 57 North (assuming if they're coming from Disneyland) and exit East Imperial HWY and make a left (headin' towards west) and then you make another left on State College Blvd. and the park entrance should be on your left. From what I'm aware of, there's also a parking fee unless you park outside on the street.

I don't think leaving at at 6 would be bad. If I'm not mistaken, I think we left around that time at the Cosplay.com Picnic in Irvine.

Unless you have something planned that calls for a night setting, than yeah, change it I guess.

It's up to you if you want to change it considering that you are the president of Akibiyori Co., lol.

The only thing is, I wanted to do the cosplay contest at night... but, if you guys like November better, we'll settle with November 6th. I don't care really, I just want to please you all.

Plus, will this even CHANGE people's minds of coming? Will people who weren't coming becase of Yaoi con want to come if the date is change? 'cause other wise, I rather stick with our previous date. I'm only changing it to hopefully get a few more guests interested in coming.

Cynically > thanks for the heads up, I'll fix that in the site update.

Okay, well, that's atlest one. And the staff seems to like it better, and I could use an extra week with moving this next week and all... and well, I need to call tofu records later today... So you know what?

Date is changed.

See you all November 6th, 2004. Must remember to PM admin to change the date for us on the con planner... *goes to do so right now* Also, as I said, those of you who have already sent registration (which i doubt anyone has, because I've only gotten Jack's registration because he brought it over) and is against the change, please just PM me, void your check, and I'll trash it.

We need people to help put everything together (about an hour or so before the picnic starts) so, if you want to help out with that I personally would appreciate it. And as always, any contributions for the food and drinks is a big help. Just let me know what you can bring so I know what I have to buy.

Also, it's not finished but I put up the new site about two hours ago... so, enjoy!
(You can find it at http://aki.egosyste.org/) Next update will probably be the rest of the pages and a rehaul on the forums.

Hi Everybody!

I am updating because Sakurada is offline for the next few days.

We had our official staff meeting today- thank you to those who made it, and it was a pleasure to meet you all!

Here are a few notes we would like to share with the community here about the picnic:

1.) If you are planning to go to Akibiyori, please add it to your calender. It will help us get a better head count of how many to expect.

2.) Along with number 1, we are kindly requesting that you register for the picnic before hand. The 10.00 for registration assists in the rental of the park site and food. Registration will be 10.00 for those preregistering up to October 30. After that, the price will 15.00 per person. This is also the door price. Save money and register early! Thank you!!

3.) We have some awesome stuff planned including a costume contest, a live band, a raffle, and an artwork show!

4.) For the artwork show, we are considering using board set up to put the pictures on for viewing. If you are an artist and are considering submitting your work for display, let me know what you think of this idea.

I will be posting more on this later this evening.

Any questions? post here or PM me!

Hey Kiddles, I might be on for a few days so I'm just going to give you a run down. First off, big thanks to Tif for update you all for me.

From now on, and this will be on the site as well, Please send all registration forms to:

Lacie Seiber
6691 Theresa st
Mira Loma, CA 91752

This is my grandmother's address so it's much more reliable, as I'm sure she'll not be moving anytime soon since she just moved in in June.

Secondly, I'd like to schedual another Lunch meeting soon. I might even have it a little closer to LA unless none of you in LA are interested in comming. I want to do it sometime September, maybe after we go to Disneyland? (Which is on the 14th, unless Seig has plans) We'll even go somewhere nicer than Mimi's Cafť this tme, I promise.

Any ideas would be great. Everyone's welcome to join in.

I just want to note that it was really awsome to meet you all in person finally, I really enjoyed the meeting, and I hope you all did as well. For futher notice, we're still going to Ani-Magic (most, anyway), so look out for us there. ^_^

Sakurada
09-09-2004, 02:02 AM
Double Post, sorry.

We are scheduling a second lunch meeting in Anaheim for some time later this month. If anyone is interested, please tell me. Riceball has suggested a tea shop for some Boba, and I think this would be much easier than going out to lunch as we did last time.

Iím planning this for a weekend as with the last one. If you are interested, Iíd love to see you all there again.

If anyone has some suggestions other than the one mentioned by Riceball, please gimme an idea so I have some sort of idea of what you all want to do. Otherwise, the ďget-togetherĒ for Disneyland in the next week or so is still on. Seig, please PM me with a date you can go and weíll arrange it with the other staffers.

Also, the meeting at Ani-Magic is still a go. I think we might head over to Red Robin for that.

Now, updates concerning the picnic.

If you are interested in the art exhibit, please send your artworks now. We need this set up in advanced. You can also place a price on your artwork incase anyone may want to buy it. Please keep it reasonable. All artwork can be submitted to me at Ani-Magic or by mail. Please make sure that your artwork is packaged well, as I am not responsible for any damage.

As for registrationÖ Please have your registration submitted by mid October. Iím having a lot of problems with food so we need to know who is coming and who is not. I canít buy food for 20 people if 60 come, you know?

Iíll also take registration submissions at Ani-Magic; Iíll be in the dealer room most of the time if not hanging around with random cosplayers. So far, I feel my InuYasha costume might not be complete by the time (Iíve had a hassle with moving). Iíll be dressed as either Meg from Family Guy or Miwako from Paradise Kiss.

There are so far no big updates, just small ones. Iíll be updating the site off and on within the next few weeks so please check back frequently.

Actually, funny you mention it. If I don't finish my Festival-Goer Yuna, I'll probably just go for Kaoru. She's so much like me; I just have to be her one of these days! ;_;

By the way, I'd like to mention that with October coming up on Friday... We will need everyone to send in his or her registrations soon! The last week of October and first week of November will be when I'm buying food so I need to know who's going and who's not! Please have your registrations submitted by October 30th; otherwise you'll have to pay $15.

Also, just a little note, but if you have sent registration forms in and have not gotten a confirmation please tell me. This is a new neighborhood so I'm worried that the postal service isn't caught up yet.

Secondly, PLEASE DO NOT WAIT FOR PAYPAL REGISTRATION TO OPEN!

I've had a little problem with setting up paypal so I'm not sure if we'll have online registration. If it is not up by October 15th, I'm taking down the online registration page. I much prefer that you send registration by mail.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM, reply, or email me (hanaco@gmail.com) anytime.

MEETING RECAPS
I just wanted to let you know that the Disneyland meeting didn't go so well. Due to scheduling, only I and one other staff member made it. We had fun, but I would have like to see the staff there, as it was a great opportunity to get to know you all.

Our next meeting is this Saturday, September 25. We'll be meeting at Cha for Tea in Irvine. If any of you are interested in coming along, we'll be meeting around 2PM. Go check out the website (http://chafortea.com) for more information.

The Address is:
4187 Campus Drive, Suite M-173
Irvine, CA 92612

If you're interested in attending, please just PM me so I know. This is open to staff and those of you attending Akibiyori.

Just so you all know, I won't be using the forums because of a few personal situations and because Akibiyori is only a month away and I need to keep up with that instead. I'll still be doing registration stuff, but that's about it for my online interactions.

Please note that there will not be any online registration. I have updated the website to reflect this. I also apologize for the pages that haven't been filled out but I've had a very hectic past few months but everything is very general and we'll go through all the rules at the picnic.

I'd also like to note that we will NOT be accepting at-the-door registration due to the fact that I can't buy food for 30 people when only 10 have pre-registered. If you're coming, please register now. This makes it a lot easier on me as we haven't been able to get proper sponsorship.

Finally, I'll be checking emails when I can so if you have any questions please send them to hanaco@gmail.com -- thank you very much and hope to see you all next month!

Basically, I just wanted to let you all know that I'd like to have most registration forms atleast sent out by the 25th of this month - That way I can go buy most of the food the week before and then a day or so before the picnic go buy the meat and other perishable items

I'd really like to attend Akibiyori, but I don't know any cosplayers, yet, and I'm not really interested in going if I'm going to be alone; I'm not the most outgoing person in new situations. Is there anyone else going that would like to form a 'doesn't know anyone' group?

Additionally, I'll be going down from LA. Anyone else coming from LA? (I'm by the LAX / Santa Monica)

I'm glad to see so many people interested in coming and I really hope you all come. I know, from personal experiences that we've got a great group coming. In fact, the staff is all people I've met here and have become close friends with since.

If my staff is anything like the rest of you, I'm sure we'll all come away with a few new friends.

Remember, This is a social thing. Akibiyori is for meeting other cosplayers and having a fun time. Sure, there's also a great opportunity to take pictures at a really beautiful location and we've got a few events planned but that's not as great as the people we get to hang out with.

I had such a great time hanging out with some of you at Ani-Magic, and I look forward to meeting the rest of my fellow so-cal cosplayers at Akibiyori. So I hope you all come!

Also, I'd like to give you all a few updates.

I just want you all to know that refund and registration deadlines are set to October 30th. Please get your registration forms sent in before October 30th, as there will be NO At-The-Door Registration (Meaning: You cannot pay when you get to the picnic, you have to Pre-Register).

If, for any reason you decide you cannot attend and have already registered you must contact me any way (AIM, MSN, PM, Email.) before October 30th. That means you have less than two weeks.

Also, if for any reason the date is changed and you will not be able to attend then or the picnic is canceled you will receive a full refund. No worries there.

I've probably said this about 100 times already, but please know it all still stands.

Someone at the Akibiyori forums thought that maybe after the picnic we could go to Denny's or something (which, considering this is a picnic, is a little redundant)... I'm planning to go to Akibiyori but I have a few questions that I'd like to ask first. Will there be tables with the roof thing overhead where the picnic wil be or any other shelter from the sun other than trees? Although I am hoping that there won't be rain on Nov. 6, if it does happen to rain, what will happen to the picnic? My last question is if there will be any vegetarian-friendly dishes or am I better off preparing some of my own food?

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to say hello and update you all and answer a few questions.

First off, I'm sorry for the delay lately. I've been offline due to a lot of reasons, partly because of Akibiyori... And it'll probably be like this off and on until the week before. So please bare with me!

Let me try to answer all of your questions --

Is this a pre-register thing or pay-on-arrival?
This is a pre-register thing, and I try to stick with this unless there's a really GOOD reason on why you can't make the payment by the 30th. In some cases, I will extend it to the last few days BEFORE the picnic.

How long will the event last?
We start putting stuff out at around 9:30, Official open was 10AM if I remember what Gainax Boy and I had agreed on. I'll be at the park around 7-7:30AM setting things up so if anyone wants to help out I'd be very appreciative. I'm not saying "Show up at 7:30" But if you show up before 9:30 - I'd love the help.

The picnic ends at around 5PM or so, as the park closes at 6PM and we need to clean up. From there, we'll be going out for a big group dinner so if your interested just come along! It's not yet decided exactly where we're going, but I'll scope out the area and find somewhere to eat that's close and cheap.

Also, you can start picking up your badges at around 9:30 to Noon. Someone had asked me if they could pick up a badge for their friend if they don't show up on time -- The answer is yes. In fact, If you don't have a friend who'll be there earlier all you really need to do is fine either me or one of the Staff Members and ask us to get your badge for you.

Is there a specific meeting area, or is it really obvious?
The exact location hasn't been picked, but there will be signs everywhere and will probably be extremely obvious. I'm going to put my phone number out for people to call if they are totally lost.

Will there be tables with the roof thing overhead where the picnic will be or any other shelter from the sun other than trees?
From what I know, I think we're kinda stuck with whatever we can get. I'm not sure, sketchy memory...but I think there's only latice patio tops anyway. I could be wrong.

If it does happen to rain, what will happen to the picnic?
I'm going to be checking the news daily the week before the picnic and keep my fingers crossed. If they're claiming it's going to rain or if it rains and doesn't seem to let up like it did a few days ago I'll be reschedualling the picnic for a day that fits with everyone's schedual. Here's to hoping nothing bad happens!

If for any reason the picnic is canceled, please rest assure that you will get a refund.

Will there be any vegetarian-friendly dishes?
As I do not know the rules of the "Vegitarian" dining, I suggest that you perhaps bring your own food. In fact, why not bring it for potluck and share with the rest of us?

Another good idea is maybe to send me some recipies so I can get an idea of something that will work for you aside from Tofu dogs and all that stuff.

FINALLY, if any of you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you!

What is the best way to get to the park, for someone that is coming from the west, using the CA-91? I've never driven around in that area before. Does anybody know offhand?

Are there other groups or folks coming from the west? :)

There's some directions on the website, but I'm not sure if they relate to the 91...

Does everyone have a ride to this thing? Or are rides being discussed elsewhere? (and if so, where?)

Jack Kim
11-03-2004, 11:24 PM
Looks like this weekend is going to make the upcoming picnic a repeat of the Cosplay.com picnic back in April; spots of rain throughout the day!
Does this park where we're meeting have covered areas?
Also, are there any back-up plans in case it rains more than expected?
Either way, hope to see you all there! I seem to remember people at the April picnic had more fun WITH the rain!
Or maybe that was just me...

Sakurada

Long time no post... So, here we go!

Jinyo, We're discussing rides in our forums. You can find the threads about transportation over here:

http://www.ie-forums.com/viewforum.php?f=39

Ah... Rain. I checked on monday and it was telling me we were up for clear skies. Now we've got this "light rain" crap going on. I think we're just going to try and go on. I'm not sure about covering, I haven't been to that park in awhile and it's all kind of a blur. I need to go take a look at it either tomorrow or Friday...

Otherwise... I'm not sure what's going on. I wish I had more to report, but hopefully the rain won't be too bad. Spots here, Spots there. That'd be nice... Even nicer if it was all in the wee hours of the morning or that night AFTER the picnic.

Keep your fingers crossed.

I'll be updating the journal tonight with info about the raffle, the contest, and After-Party. Before I even bother -- Is anyone bringing anything in for the Auction? Or shall we cancel it?

Also, there's a rather important discussion going on in the LiveJournal about an organization to start a donation box to. I'm leaning towards the Leukemia Research Foundation. Please check it out and let your voice be heard.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/akibiyori/

The last thing on the list is potluck. If anyone is bringing or bought something (Jaina, I think you said you were thinking about bringing stuff?) to take to the picnic -- PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU ARE BRINGING. I want to know what I shouldn't buy. I don't want to spend money on something we'll have too much of. Thank you!

Finally, I hope to see you all on Saturday! Thank you all for supporting the picnic, and most of all -- for actually wanting to come!

Lots of Love,
hanaco

I'll be going if my online registration is accepted. I procrastinated, and didn't send it in till today.

I'll bring something, I just have no idea what to bring. If someone could give me some examples or just tell me what is needed.

Sakurada
11-04-2004, 02:06 AM
Hmm.. *thinks*

Chips, Dips, Snack foods, drinks, Ice... (Seriously, we'll need ice.)

If anyone had any ice boxes they can bring (bring, not say "sure!" and forget) -- that'd be nice. I've got one big one and am going to buy a huge bucket or two at Smart & Final... but I'm not sure if that'll be enough.

Jinyo

As of this posting, AccuWeather is predicting rain between 10 & noon, then again after 4 PM.

http://wwwa.accuweather.com/adcbin/public/hbh_local.asp?zipcode=92831&metric=0&partner=accuweather&whend=3

I didn't see much activity in the Transportation threads, so I thought I should post here too:
I'm driving down from the Canoga Park/Woodland Hills area, West San Fernando Valley. I'd be willing to give someone from the LA area a ride down. The back seats in my car don't fold down, but I do have a sunroof, so if you're bringing a huge, long prop like a gun or a sword, we should be able to fit it in. Less than 14 feet, please. I may have to drive under a bridge or something. Also, I don't know the Fullerton area, so we'll have many hours of fun ahead of us, driving around aimlessly and not stopping to ask for directions. A portable DVD player will be available so you can bring some anime and get "into character" on the ride down.

Jaina Solo
11-04-2004, 11:39 PM
Jinyo, you're going!? WOOT! I was hoping I'd get to catch you again before, oh, say, next year's ComiCon... ^.^

Anywho, I was planning on bringing the basics, like chips and soda, although if you'd rather me bring ice ice ice, that's fine too. Take your pick. BTW, how many people are there to be expected? I'll try to bring enough chips and soda for say, 15-30 people, but if we're expecting more than 30 peeps, I probably wont get enough...

Yay! I'm so excited! Jinyo will be there! *throws confetti* You'll get to see the rest of Yuriy's costume, including the spiffeh Van Fanel sword I've been working all week on...

Currently we're approaching (or may have reached) 70 people. You can buy whatever you'd like, you decide. As for me, I'm going to get some 2-litters and a couple flats of sodas at Smart & Final tomorrow, and some big bags of chips.

MY EQUAL! XD

If you do not bring back Coach, I will Kill Craig T. Nelson. XD

Anyway, I'm very glad you all had fun and please send all your favorite pictures to my email (hanaco@gmail.com) and I'm going to start putting together press material for next year.

As I've told several of you, we're putting a committee together to get things done more professionally instead of me running my ass around like this year. I already have a few people Iíd like to include in the committee from the picnic guest list this year, specifically Shea and Jack. Iíll contact you guys in the next few days about this.

Iím glad things turned out well; there were a lot of things that I wish I could have changed, and a lot of things that didnít go as planned. But we did our best, and I think (and hope) most of you had fun. Next year, for sure, we will be much more prepared as in the next month or so Iím going to get started on next year.

Iím going to be working on press stuff much earlier, in hopes that next year we have a sponsor or, even betterÖ Sponsors? :3

So, once again thank you all for coming! Iím glad you all made it. :D

w00t! Hiya Peoples!! I'm totally stoked that you all had fun at Akibiyori this year ^__^

I tried my best to make sure everyoen was having a good time (sorry if I wasn't able to personally give you some attention)

Jaina, Yana, Arin, Parnaz, Velvy, Rouge Marvel, and all the other cute girls at Akibiyori... to you, I glomp thee ^_^ *GLOMPS*

To Quisty - what do you mean, you're never letting me have the camera again? I thought I did a perfectly fine job of obtaining some choice footage ^^
Show the tape and let the public judge my 1337 video skillz

To Yana - After you called James and Jarod, I immediately insisted that we turn around and help that girl (we were approching Anaheim to drop Riceball off). We droped her off and turned back around. I was not going to leave that girl stranded without a phone, money, or a place to be for the night. So we got back to borders at around 9 or 10:30-ish and found her still in the Manga section. We ended up taking to her to a police station in Anaheim where she was able to arrange to get a bus home and have a sheltered place to stay the night (it was fairly close to midnight or so when Jarod finally finished explaining things to the police).

I told Jarod and James that a good night's sleep is not worth Sacrificing a human life for (I still had 2 hours worth of driving to do in order to get home. I finally did get home at around 1:30am thanks to doing temporal velocity on the freeway .. but it was worth it in order to make sure that that girl was taken care of)

Anyways.. back on track.

I had a blast and I can't wait to see everyone again soon ^_____^

Gimme a buzz on AIM *Thumbs up*

It was totally awesome meeting everyone and I'm glad so many people stayed and enjoyed my 1337 MC-ing skillz ^^;;

It was wonderful to see/ meet you all at Akibiyori. (you guys know who you are!!) :) I had a good time, even though, due to unforseen circumstances, I got there late.

Good job, Lacie, on running a good day and keeping things running smoothly. It was a lot of hard work for someone your age, and you should be proud of your accomplishment.

And congratulations again to all our cosplay contest winners. It was hard to pick a winner/ winners, as everybody had something prize worthy about their costumes.

My pics should be up soon, and I will post here when I have them up. :)
