View Full Version : Eyebrows once again--going from black to blonde

So I made the mistake of having two costumes that require lighter eyebrows. It's enough I'm willing to go through the pain of waxing and the cost, but I'm pretty sure I can't afford to get them dyed nor really want to. I tried foundation but it just made a mucky mess and still looks dark under the makeup. I also tried the halloween colored hair spray stuff like white and then blond but it looks quite bad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am a natural blonde and have naturally dark eyebrows.

You don't want your brows to completely "match" your hair color anyway.

I just get mine waxed and shaped real nice. Usually 2 days prior to a con. No one will notice a thing. Trust me.
And dyeing your brows is not a good idea anyway. You have a very nice shape to your brows already. I think they look fine just the way they are.

Thank you for replying I had just about given up hope on this thread:). See the problem is that two of my costumes have platinum blonde hair, and my eyebrows might not seem that dark now, but when I'm wearing very, very very light blonde wigs...they look very dark and then it throws the whole look off. They make the wig look very fake and even though it is I try my best to get it to look natural.

I KNOW there's an eyebrow thread somewhere in these boards, but since I'm here..... hehe

If you use spirit gum or an eyebrow sealing wax you can cover your eyebrows with foundation and then draw them in with an eyebrow pencil. Then when you're done with the "plat blonde look" you can remove the spirit gum or e/b wax and have your own eyebrows back :)

No pain, no dyeing :D

It may be that you're being too critical. I have light brown hair but my eye brows are black. I'm going to be Chii next year for Big Apple Anime Fest and I've looked at other people's outfits and none of them look bad with dark eye brows. There is virtually nothing you can do about it except the whole spirit gum thing.

But even then, it may not come out perfect. I say just leave them. People will look right past it.

Actually, it's in the WIG FAQ:

http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=33136

There's a FAQ there on how to match eyebrows with a wig. That might help you out too.

I've never seen this eyebrow was stuff, but I have experience with spirit gum and all it does is about the equivalent of hot glue. Spirit gum hurt to remove...or am I being a weinie?:)

I dunno I mean they;ve always looked too dark when I bleach my hair....but it just makes the wig look more fake...considering I'm dark and trying to look white:)

Spirit gum should come off with rubbing alcohol. I don't know what YOU'RE using to take it off, but this should do the trick. Eyebrow putty requires you covering your entire eyebrow with it, then redrawing the eyebrows over it. You might also find prosthetic eyebrows (yes, it sounds weird, but so what?) at theatrical stores. You do the eyebrow putty bit, and then just adhere the new eyebrows with spirit gum. Ask at the theatre store for tips on getting it to stay and look nice.

Hmm, I have fairly dark eyebrows that needed to be yellow for my SS Vegeta costume. I just got a little container of yellow theatrical make-up, painted them once real good, powedered, then painted them again. Worked pretty well.

Theatre makeup is your friend. Love it. Glomp it. Hug it.
