Hey everybody.
I'm officially going to the Canadian National eXpo! now what's all this LIMITED ACCESS about on the website?
what am i being limited to?! @__@;

For example, I was going to get the One day Festival of Fear pass, but it's LIMITED ACCESS to the Sci-Fi and Anime parts. Then, I was going to buy the Festival of Fear Deluxe Pass when I saw it's LIMITED ACCESS to the anime part.
The Anime Deluxe Pass is not LIMITED ACCESS anywhere but i doubt I'll get $45 worth.

Basically I wanna know what's being LIMITED to me. I don't go to more than half the events anyway, why pay for them?

I also noticed some guests are subject to charges. I know about Patrick Stewart but are we going to be charged for anyone else?

I don't usually get very involved at CNX but this new Festival of Fear is right up my alley. I'd rather get a Fear pass but I don't wanna end up wanting to go somewhere and being told my $30 doesn't allow it but it allows tons of other shit i won't do -_-

Essentially, you can't get into the viewing rooms, and may have problems seeing the GOH, I'm not certain.
Oh, and they want to give anime pass holders priority to the Masquerade, but it isn't going to work (logistically) so you should be fine.

it's the rooms that show anime

Yup. Whatever rooms are showing anime won't be included, and possibly the anime panels, but again that has to do with policing.....

aiya, i wish they were more specific x_x; i don't have much luck in getting responses to emails from people managing cons >.<

Silver and his crew are WRETCHED at replying to e-mails sent to them asking questions. They say they replied... but they never do. Sorry I can't be of much more help.

I also emailed them with a query about the masquerade, and particularly how the "priority seating" was going to work.

Did anyone else see the promotional fliers they were giving out at Toronto Trek claiming that they were Canada's Biggest Masquerade? ^_^" Funny[

Is there a specific event you had in mind? If not, you can click "Features" in the anime section and "Features" in the horror section to see which events belong to which section.

My friends are giving out flyers for the Festival of Fear, I don't see any of that on it. but everyone claims to have the biggest something or other. It's a matter of opinion.

Ikegami~ Well I'm not 100% which events i wanna go to until everything is finalized. I'm hoping to see some of the guests to get autographs (thus the inquiry about charges to other guests besides Patrick Stewart), possibly the MASQ, Artist Alley, maybe some workshops/panels/seminars or whatever, dealer room, and some others i'm about to pass out though so i can't check the site, lol

I'm hoping to see some of the guests to get autographs
For autographs of anime guests, anime pass is required.
For autographs of any other guests, any pass will do.
I might be possible to slip by on this one??

(thus the inquiry about charges to other guests besides Patrick Stewart),

Only Patrick Stewart is listed as requiring a "Special Event Ticket", so the others don't charge.

possibly the MASQ
All passes.

Artist Alley, dealer room
All passes. btw, the dealer's room (incl AA) has always been open to the public on the last hour of the con (i.e. from 5-6pm on Sunday)

maybe some workshops/panels/seminars or whatever
I don't know what they have for panel.
"Anime Name That Tune", "Anime Win, Lose or Draw" require anime pass.

Anime Viewing rooms and Anime Karaoke require an anime pass (although someone said you could pay a small fee at the door for the Karaoke?)

Check "Features" of each con portion, and check the FAQ (which is the same page for all cons portions).

What is the price for a weekend at CN?

Vicky
07-27-2004, 09:48 PM
*LMAO* there's a generic question.
it depends on what pass you get, which is why i created this topic because i am undecided which pass is most appropriate for my needs.
you can see the complete list here: https://secure.e-registernow.com/cgi-bin/mkpayment.cgi?state=312
but you'll have to refer to the main website to find out what passes give you access to what: http://www.hobbystar.com/ComicConToronto/CC_Main.asp

I'm really interested in the Festival Of Fear. I think that's the most interesting concept Hobbystar has had in a while. As for 'matter of opinion', It's not, it's sheer numbers and it's incorrect, period.

Okay in other news here's the answer about the reserved seating.....

QUESTION :jjacks: I was browsing your website regarding your upcomming event in Toronto, and I was just curious as to what 'Priority seating for the Masquerade' entails. How is it implimented. Do we have a reserved seat? Are they numbered? Do we get tickets?

Thank you in advance for your reply

ANSWER HERE
Priority seating is in case we cannot fit everyone in the theatre, weekend
or deluxe pass holders will be admitted first. Basic pass holders will be
admitted following. No numbers, no. Thanks.

Let me re ask my question how much is it for an anime pass?

Amy the Yu

For autographs, anime and comic guests have previously just signed autographs to whoever as long as they have some sort of a pass (since you need SOME sort of a pass to get upstairs).

Sci-fi guests charge according to their own price for autographs, but I haven't seen any do it for free to regular attendees. Price for sci-fi guests (not including the huge one(s) each year like Patrick Stewart this year) range anywhere from $10-over $30...most are between $10-$20 and you would buy a small ticket from them at their autograph table which would get punched when you get your autograph. They sell the little tickets all through out the con, but the guests are only there for certain times.

One thing a lot of people get the Anime Pass for is the limited edition lithograph. I always use it for the anime guest's autograph since it's the anime guest of honour who draws the lithograph. There are only 1000 printed and individually numbered and given to the first 1000 people who buy the Anime Pass.

HOWEVER, staff will take like...the first 100 and then it's down to only 900, and if it turns out anything like last year, they'll forget about taking it to the front desks and it'll end up being given to who ever buys the anime pass after the point when they remember.

And once again we say go look at the hobbystar site. They update super late and close to the con, but they have info all in there and I have to say...much nicer layout this year than previous years.

I'm wondering when the next 'meeting' is for Silver. He said he'd have one in August sometime, but I still haven't heard anything from him. *shrug*

Tigerlilly:

Anime Deluxe Pass - $45.00CAD ($32 US (approx))
Unlimited Access Pass for 1, 2, or all 3 days (additional fee for Hollywood Anime)
Anime Children`s Pass - $20.00CAD ($14 US (approx))
For children 12 years and under, must be purchased with an adult pass

Pass includes at no extra charge:
Science Fiction Expo (ALL ACCESS) excluding Patrick Stewart
Horror Expo (ALL ACCESS)
Comic Book Expo (ALL ACCESS)

Oh and the anime expo doesn't have a basic one day pass. If you only want to go for one day you could possibly get the SFX or Horror basic pass for $20 CAD ($14US (approx)) but they both have limited access to the anime expo. Hope that answers your question^^

I'm not quite sure about that myself x_X;; There isn't any information about it on the site...I just copied the info from the ticket info page. It's kind of odd that there isn't any explanation about what it is on the features page. o_O;

Vicky

i agree, the pass stuff is very confusing.
it's totally understanding, and usefull if you know exactly what you want.
*usually* i buy the one day sci-fi pass. the extent of my CNX experience consists of the dealer room, the MASQ and my hotel room *L* i rarely go to any of the events and mostly just do the social thing. however this year, with the Festival of Fear add on, i'll be at the con for the majority of the time.
so now i've become concerned with all these limitations and extra fees.
i'd like to get the Deluxe Anime Pass, but it's just a huge issue of the fact i may not get even half my money's worth if all the celebs i wanna see have fees anyway.

Oh yeah!! I know what you mean now!!.. thanks WhiteMage!! Last year I think it was at Bloor Cinema and they showed some new anime movie with a girl and her dog, and her struggle getting through her parents divorce. Aha.. can't remember anything more but that.. I never went to see it...

Junkers Come here...

I actually tried to see it but due to the Buffy: Once More, With Feeling screening went later then I thought and I missed a train stop.

*ears perk up* Horror Movies?

Yeah, which makes sense. If there isn't something that can draw people to go and see it then might as well show something that would guarentee a big audience. OZ/Darkside was shown right after Junkers and filled the house. I would have loved for Tokyo Godfathers to be shown, but also in a sense I've been hoping that the Comic Book and Sci-fi (and now Horror) sections of the con get some of the features that the anime component have recieved.

Only Patrick Stewart is listed as requiring a "Special Event Ticket", so the others don't charge.

Usually others guest (mostly sci-fi) have a price for an autograph... but you probably won't know until before or during the con. Comic book guests are usually free...

:sulk: Actually, the reason why the anime guests never seem to change is because Hobbystar allways advertises the same people every year without actually contacting them and signing them to a contract first. It's for this reason as well why the advertise the main Sailor Moon voice actors every year and yet when the con happens they turn around and say they couldn't make it have give you some of the secondary voice actors instead. They're such crooks sometimes.

Charge Kia, not change!

Although I agree that CNanime's guest list are well below medicore... I was quite happy with the folks from MegaTokyo and Sam Vincent (Who did the VA for one of my favourite characters of all time, Mitsurugi Hanagata. But even so... with all the Patrick Stewarts and Joe Quesadas... No Stan Lee appearence and no Kevin Smith appearence since 1999???

How Troublesome...

I may have missed it somewhere else, but as far as I know the Bloor Cinema is being used for the Festival of Fear instead this year. Damn ... Well the clock struck twelve and Bloor Cinema updated its site.

Unless its at a different location, there will be no Hollywood Anime. The Horror movie marathon, which is actually 2 films by Alejandro Jodorowsky and it states on the Bloor Cinema page that various celebrities will be in attendance...

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN at 7:00pm and SANTA SANGRE at 9:30pm on Sunday August 29th...

They will collectively announce to fans and Press... two brand new Jodorowsky film projects currently in the works which include horror writers Roy Frumkes and Rocco Simonelli. Pierre Spengler is Producing and one will Star singer/actor Marilyn Manson."

Now the tickets for that are $12 for a single screening and $20 for both in advanced, $15 and $26 at the door. I don't know if hobbystar will have some sort of deal... they would have to post that information.

Now you might ask yourself... well if thats on Sunday, what's on Friday (Where Hollywood anime is usually shown)? On Friday @ 7PM and 9PM, Bloor will be showing the 2 documentaries that got a ton of press this year Frahrenheit 9/11 and Super Size Me.

Now those two don't really fit in to the Horror/Sci-Fi/Anime/Comic mold of the weekend... but the 11:30 screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show sure will! :bigtu:

I know many here will find this disappointing the there might possible not be any anime screenings at a theatre this year, but look on the bright side... Rocky Horror will guarentee to entertain... just with the locals who usually show up cosplaying its characters...
