Hello again, cosplayers of the San Francisco Bay Area. After several months of waiting, it is that time again for another "We're In Costume -- Take Our Picture" cosplay meetup/photoshoot. This time around, it will take place at Heather Farms gardens in Walnut Creek.

Babbit-chan: "Another very scenic location, the setting is a spacious community park several acres wide perfect for picnics and sports. On site are a large pond, walk-through gardens with gracious shade, and a few picnic benches close to a sandfilled volleyball area and a basketball court not far off. Bathrooms are located at the community building. A short walk down the street brings you to a gas station, Albertson's, and a chain of small restaurant and snack food places."

Heather Farms is located at 301 N. San Carlos Drive, Walnut Creek, for anyone who will be getting themself there.

We're hopefully going to have the shoot on September 25, at 1:00pm. It will go as long as everyone wants to stay (how long can you take pictures, after all?), and perhaps a dinner arrangement might be made. However, there are no specific plans.

Everyone is encouraged to come in costume, and we would be more than thrilled to have people ready to exclusively play photographer as well. (As I had offered in my other thread (http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=39873), I might be willing to offer a few private photoshoots, but I want to limit them at this specific event, as I will be there in costume, ready for pictures too ^,^)

Please PM babbit_chan with questions about the actual facility-- I have never been there before.

BART batch #1:
1. SohjiroX
2. Felicity
3.
4.
5.
Officially, as of this morning, I am assuming only SohjiroX and Felicity will be needing to be picked up from the Walnut Creek Bart at 12:30. After they have been picked up, I won't be waiting for anyone else!

Since only 2 people showed interested, badges are cancelled. Sorry if others were interested, but you didn't PM me or respond. I cannot read minds ~,~;

FINALLY: Since I couldn't get a response from Babbit_Chan regarding this, I will be arriving early, and placing bright signs out so people may follow them to a meet-up location. Sorry I couldn't do this better.

So, for those who are interested, just let us know here!

Ooh... I've never done a non-con event like this. Seems like fun. I'll be in costume but I'll take a camera to snap pics, but my photographs are not photoshoot worthy ^^

It sounds tempting, though the need for transportation hitchage may be necessary.

I know there's a BART stop there..anyone willing to make a quick shuttle run to pick up a person that could dress AND photograph?

Raider3

And so it returns.

I'd be up for one more year, definitely, with my trusty 2.0 mp camera, and whatever costume's ready at the time. I'm leaning towards Hikaru Ichijo from Macross (a.k.a. Rick Hunter from the first 1/3 of Robotech... ugh, yes, the series that swept me up into fandom, sad but true.), having had a good reception with it at Fanime this year.

As for getting there, I've got it covered. If nothing else, I can handle photo duties. (I need to work on it every chance I get.)

I'd be happy to pick up people from BART, so if people are trekking from anywhere BART is close to, I'll be happy to pick up a group of cosplayers from the WC extension of BART =)

The more the merrier. We can always go to someplace for lunch after exhausting our fun at heather farms.

I'd like to join the BART shuttle crew, if possible. I'll be coming from Oakland, in costume (or at least with costume), and I'll bring my trusty Nikon SLR with me. Has the date been finalized yet, and what time are you thinking?

LuckInSpades
08-11-2004, 12:55 AM
Time is currently UNPLANNED. For the event and for BART. I imagine we'd probably try and meet for the shoot around 1ish or so. Its hard to say. BART'd obviously be amply beforehand.

Maiyu, join the BART gang. As I have offered, I can transport a number of people from the Walnut Creek BART to Heather Farms.

Hitori
08-14-2004, 11:12 PM
Do you have room for one more in that BART pickup? I may be able to find alternate transportation, but I don't know at this point.
I'm ready~ I was sick for the last one ;_;

LuckInSpades

Alright, folks. I have a minivan. So, depending on how far the bart station is from heather farms, I can take 5 extra people at a time. (Babbit, if you can give me a time estimate on how far/difficult the drive is between, I can see if I'd be willing to make multiple trips.)

So, here is the dibs order (setting the order with who has ASKED SPECIFICALLY, first): Dany, Liddo-chan, Hitori, felicity, and Sohijiro.

So that is one full bus, so to speak. Everyone, please start letting me know about BART pickups. I am willing to take more than one trip, but I need to know.

felicity869

I want to come and if I do come (I'm 80% sure that I will) I'll probably need a ride from the BART.

liddo-chan
08-23-2004, 02:28 PM
the deal with my camera...

So, I've been getting more into cosplay photoshoots lately, and I'm very excited to come and take photos of people, as well as cosplaying myself. However, I still use a film camera, and film (I use Kodak Portra) and developing gets expensive after a few rolls. I'll try to get at least 1 photo of as many people as I can, but if there's anyone who's interested in kind of a mini photoshoot (a series of 5 photos, for example), I will develop and mail the actual prints to you at cost. I can also e-mail scans of the photos. If I get at least a few people (about 5-7 would be ideal) who are interested, I can do this for about $5 per person.

For an example of my work, take a look at the Nabeshin photoshoot I did recently:

http://images.cosplay.com/showgallery.php?cat=9770&userid=7663

and the first 4 images in my main gallery are taken using my "real camera" as well, though not by me (as I'm in front of the camera), but you can get an idea of the picture quality:

http://images.cosplay.com/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=7663

Let me know if you're possibly interested, so I can bring enough film. Also, for those taking photos, I'd be happy to do a straight exchange--photos of me for photos of you.

SohjiroX

Well I love to come to this gathering since its not that far in my area sort of, so if you have anymore info you could PM me with that would be great.

PS: I'm SJ area so if I make it up there its Barting it to where ever stop is needed be, so a ride would be nice if you dont mind. I will bring money for gas and food for this event.

Nadeshiko

*waves*

Technically, I can go, but it depends what comes up that weekend (if I get a job an such). I would need a ride either from SFSU or from the BART. I would prefer a ride from SFSU, but if I have to BART, then I'll do it. Just PM me if any of you are interested in helping me out. (or just email me - therose@sfsu.edu)

I'd really love to go to a cosplay picnic. I think I'm the only one out of my friends who still has yet to hit a cosplay picnic. Looking forward to it!

LuckInSpades
09-06-2004, 11:46 AM
Transport from WC bart seems to be my provided service, so that is open. I just ask for a little extra change for the gasoline expense.

I could be confused, but usually picnics involve food. ^,^;; I hadn't intended for people to bring food to this photoshoot. If cosplay photoshoots are called picnics, then yeah, but this is just... a photoshoot.

However, for the 3rd Wic-Top, we HAD planned for it to be a real pot-luck picnic. So, plenty to look forward to.

09-09-2004, 02:09 AM
Luck, how long did you guys stay there for the last WIC-TOP? Just asking out of curiosity--I'm keeping the day free! Also, is anyone bringing more than one costume? I haven't decided what I'll be wearing yet.

felicity869
09-09-2004, 10:44 AM
I'm excited :) Are there bathrooms or some other place there where we'd be able to change? I'm not liking the ideo of riding the bart in costume. I can't decide on what costume to wear. I have two egl outfits, a Chii costume, a panda girl costume, and tons of fairy costumes. Does it have to be anime related? Would it be ok if I wore a fairy costume?

liddo-chan
09-09-2004, 11:12 AM
I'm also unsure about riding BART in costume, so I'll probably just bring mine. Luck mentioned bathrooms in the first post.

I think it might be not be a bad thing for people to have more than one costume if they want to bring an extra (maybe not more than 2 total). I'm not sure how the day is set-up though.

Anyway, felicity, if that's ok with other people, you could bring one anime-related costume and one fairy costume...

Dr.Noe

Hot diggity. This sounds nifty. I'm in. I do have a vehicle and will be coming from Oakland. I could squeeze about 3 people in my car, and that might differ based on costumes.

LuckInSpades
09-13-2004, 11:58 PM
Hmm... Bart people aim to get in at 12:30 at the WC station. That is for the first group. So, any more can arrive then, but would have to wait for a second-load to be gotten.

Fallen_Magician
09-14-2004, 12:26 AM
Hmm...if I wanted to go to this(I'm still considering it), I would ride my bike there. Cause Walnut Creek is like...Parallel to Concord, so the Bike Ride shouldn't take that long. Besides, I'll just go there to see how everyone's doing.

Apologies, but something came up in the last minute. It appears that I won't be able to make it to WIC TOP. While it sounds like it will be a grand ole time, school and my health has bogged me down. I have two papers to write while recovering from an injury that has my right arm in a sling for now. (typing with left hand for now)

However, I will be at AniMagic and Metreon Fest. ^^v I have those two confirmed by far unless any other incident prevents me from such. Hope to see you then.

I'd feel bad if I were to ask for a badge. I mean you're going out of your way to pick people up from BART. I don't want to seem like a hassel.
I've decided to wear my gothic lolita alice dress. Hopefully that's okay. I just realized I need to buy film so I can take pictures while I'mt here. Being poor isn't much fun.

Well, I made badges last time, but it ended up being an expense to me, which I didn't really like, since I also organized the event for free. So, as I said, I'd be quite happy to make badges for attendees... I just need a minimum of 6 people wanting badges, and I ask for $1 each. Dassall.

It's because they don't tend to come to the US to play...It's been a good while since the last time, and I had no idea until after the fact.

Signing in and checking cosplay.com was the second thing to do. (or at least do while printing out driving directions.)

I'm off-loading JTAF pictures to the computer as I type, I need to clear the camera memory cards for this weekend and Ani-Magic anyway.

I'm departing from here by in approximately 30 minutes, most likely partially in-costume on the way up. (For the record, I never forgot about the thread, since I do check the site several times a month, and more frequently prior to events.)

LuckInSpades

Well, sorry the event was such a bust. I promise that next time will be better, as I will not rely on someone to help me when they cannot even partake in the organization anymore except for picking the location.

Thank you to everyone who were sports enough to show up and managed to find the group. I hope some good pictures were gotten and that everyone made the best of it. I will upload my pictures as soon as I can.

About a month before the next event, I will make a nice, long, detailed post. Things will guaranteed be better as I can take full responsibility for everything, including full knowledge about the locale.

See you all again soon.

Dr.Noe
09-25-2004, 09:22 PM
I don't think it was a bust. We did what we went there to do. Met (reaquanted with) new people. It's all good. Thanks for getting us together. Eventhough I was sweating to death under a bald cap, it was so worth it and I had fun. Thanks again!

Yep, I had fun too - I'm afraid I didn't get everyone's photo; I wandered off for a bit and many costumes were removed (they were laying about in piles of sweat, I think).

Anyway, the photos are up, what I did take - digital only, the films probably won't be up until after AniMagic. So check back.

Brocas, I like the monkey bar shots the most, I think, especially the ones of upside-down pegasusmaiden :) The ones on the bridge are nice too. I didn't see the bridge. Too busy being parched, I guess.

I put my film in for developing already, so I should have some photos up Mon. or Tue.

Next time, It'll be at a new location... so there's not a kids area =/ And when I said picnic, I mean pot-luck picnic ^,^;; So we'll assign food and all that jazz. But.. that's going to be in a few months.

I am sure we can have another shoot at Heather Farms, but this time I will take it upon myself to check to see if there are events planned there and such.

Here's a question for everyone: Would people be willing to pay a small fee to have things included like badges, bottled water, and a snack? Or... other things? Just thinking of how we can make things better.

Raider3
09-26-2004, 11:48 PM
I took about 28 pictures, and am more or less satisfied with what I've snapped. (Now I get to load them off the camera and see how shaky some of them are.) I'll probably get them resized and probably uploaded to my photo space here on cosplay.com, hopefully within the next couple nights (Unless I get distracted by FFXI - I'm also needing to repack costumes and clothes to the stuff I didn't unpack from JTAF, and there's some masquerade videos I owe a couple people.)

Anyway, 28 pictures should go up in the next night or two. I'll update if needed. I'm almost tempted to return to Heather Farms on a non-event weekend to take more photos of the gardens.

I'd be willing to bring up bottled water, maybe some other items, perhaps contribute to the pot-luck plans. Hopefully it'll be a little cooler by the time the next gathering is planned.

Alright, I loaded most of the decent photos into my gallery:

http://images.cosplay.com/showgallery.php?userid=7663

It was very sunny, and unfortunately, I forgot to change the speed setting on my camera from 160 to 400ASA, so I think some of the shots are overexposed... still, some fun ones in there!

I don't know a lot of the characters people were dressed as, so if you PM me with name and show, I'll edit that info.

The light was reeaallly tricky to work with - I want to see what my real film shots look like, but iit'll have to wait till next week. Accidentally overexposing might have actually been a good thing; it helps even out some of the harsh light.

I got the actual prints back today, and they're not bad, actually. The colors are nice--I was using Kodak Professional Ultra Color for the first time. cool beans.

if anyone wants prints of photos they're in, PM me--I got a second set just in case. If you want to PayPal me a couple dollars, I'll be happy to snail mail them.

Sorry to re-kindle this thread, due to its age, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I FINALLY got my pictures up =) Sorry, though, that I got so worn out and had to stop taking photos a tad early. Hopefully, next time I will be sure to bring ample water, and there will be more shade =)
