I found some last year at www.newport-news.com which they seem to have yearly, actually... I can't find them this year unfortunately, but they usually have them. And they're REALLY good ones.. ^^

Wow that's awesome, it's always nice when people have the right boots. The "porn" boots some girls use for their Senshi Fuku drives me nuts x_x

You can also save a lot of money by making boot covers over high/low heels using vinyl or shiny cloth.

Something else that works really good that I've found. DUCT TAPE! Take Knee High socks and then put coloured duct tape over it, Though...only do this if you have the patience

I found a site that shows you how to actually make the boot covers!! This site also has patterns for senshi collars (regular and Sera Myu), sleeves, and bows.

The boots I bought (which are almost exactly like the JC Penney ones posted earlier...) were just the right height (just under the knee is where the tip ends) and as they were actual leather rather than vinyl, I was able to use a gloss acrylic paint to make the white up at the top, and superglued a gold crescent to each one... ^^ They were the best part of the costume I'd made.. ^_^ I definately plan on using them again, once I totally revamp the costume.. ^^;;;; It didn't come out nearly as well as I'd wanted it to.. ;.;

;_; no I don't have any...the film I used for prom night got exposed cause they had some -in training- person develop it. You seriously should use duct tape, it's classy in itself >.>

http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/fashion.html

That's where I got the idea to do my prom dress. The suit in gallery three that's by the chair, is similar to what my date made, only his wasn't as nice as that. My Fave would have to be the duct tape wedding dress...it's similar to what mine was, it's in gallery six

I would think you'd have a hard time wearing a 4.5" heel for any significant length of time, particularly a spike heel like that.. >.<; As for the other... it would work, except it doesn't come to the point like it should. www.jcpenney.com has some riding boots that are really good ones, but they're more expensive. I ended up getting them when www.spiegel.com had them on sale last fall for like, $15, and they're GREAT.. :D I'm extremely happy with them, and they're just what I thought Sailormoon would wear. ^^

One thing I always keep in mind when looking for senshi boots (Mercury, Moon, and Pluto) are the type of heel (chunky), whether the heel appears almost flat sometimes or not (Moon's does occasionally, and it's easier for me to wear flats than heels 'cause I have a foot condition...) the shaping (they come to a V in the back, and an upside down V in the front, with the reverse true for Eternal Sailormoon) and where they end (just below the knee.)

Good luck with your hunt! :D

Yeah. I don't know about the boot covers. They always seem forced to me. And I think they fall down a lot too, even if you use lycra. I'm trying to make a custom pair out of heavy duty vinyl, but I wouldn't suggest that unless you are an obsessive compulsive cosplayer like me. If it works well, I will post an ad in the marketplace, and might take a couple commissions just of boots. I will find out when I work on them next month.

by looks, the second link looks better. the other ones look like rain boots or something odd like that. >_<

by practicality the first link would be better for walking around in. it really depends on what is more important to you.

I'm not a fan of boot covers myself.. o.O; They don't look like boots, to me, though I have seen a couple of good ones that required a second look. ^^; So I guess they CAN be well made, though they usually aren't.

The only problem I saw with the first link is that the heel/sole was black, which could easily be remedied with something like liquid latex. Paint would work too, but would be more likely to chip/flake off.. ^^;

This boot has the right shape (and comes in red!), is real leather, and ends just below the knee, as Sailormoon's boots do.. :) It's low-heeled, which might be a point to pick at, but I've got a pair very similiar and love them for my Sailormoon costumes.. :)

On another note, has anyone noticed the sudden appearance of Chibimoon-like boots absolutely EVERYWHERE this season? O.O;;; How disturbing is THAT? O.x;;

I'm actually trying to make my own boot covers by using the pattern idea i found at Lynleigh's site. But i keep screwing up (good thing i'm using scraps around the house first). The shoes i'm covering are pretty much Keds slip-ons. you know, the kind that leave your ankle and heel bare? well, once i get the fabric pinned around my foot...I CAN'T GET MY FOOT OUT!! I spent 2 hours last time trying to readjust the pins so i could get my foot out but i just COULDN'T DO IT!! ;_; it was so sad. I'm gonna keep trying, though. maybe it'll work out sooner or later. *shrugg* but i hope it's soon, cuz i need them done before my sister's Halloween party on the 30th! EEEEEEP!!! that's only 12 days away! may the gods of cosplay guide me...or something like that...><;

I've seen some good ones, too. The problem is that to make them well, they have to be made of lycra. And it's so shiny that it makes you focus so much on the boots that you look at them more than you should and notice all the tiny little flaws. That's why I'm using matte vinyl. I think the more you play up the main fuku, the better it will be since people are going to be looking up (eye-level) anyways, and unless you give them a reason to look down, they won't. If they bring up something about your boots, just ask them why they were staring at your legs lmao.

Tsukino: I think the problem you are having is that the fabric you're trying to use doesn't have any stretch. You could buy some 4-way stretch and try to use that for the boot covers maybe.

Unfortunately, there's not a single fabric store in town that has stretchy fabric (besides pure spandex...which would look terrible, i know). So i took a scrap of red fabric from what i used for the bows and i took it to a fabric store. i think the fabric i needed was polyester/nylon or something (according to some of my sewing buffs buddies...like my mother) but the closest i could find was cotton/polyester. the color is a little off (slightly more orangy than what i needed), but i figured that the boots would be too far away from the bows to be noticable. The fabric doesn't stretch at all, true, but i think i'm gonna use some backing to make it stiffer so it won't fall down on me.

And the only place i have problems with it not coming off my foot is around the bend of the ankle. so i figure if i put in some give there, then i should be ok... *crosses fingers*

I'm planning on using most of today to try again so :cheers: Here's to hoping!!!

If you like to use a no-strech fabric, just put in a long zipper at the back or the inside of your legpart. ;)

Tia
10-19-2004, 04:47 PM
Aw, that stinks. Try doing this: Pin the boot cover material over your leg, then trace where you would normally be sewing where the pins are, then take it off, pin the two pieces back together, and sew them together leaving area for a zipper. That's how I would do it. If you have trouble with it standing up, line it with duck cloth (4.44 at the local wal mart) and then put elastic in the top so it will stay up.

The first one is a kid's boot. ^^; (look at the sizes) Therefore, I think you're better off with the second pair. That's a really good find!!
