View Full Version : Alan Gabriel (Big O II) face?

Not sure if this belongs in makeup or general costume help, so move accordingly.

Woo, this is my first costume that actually requires makeup...anyway, I was thinking of possibly cosplaying Alan Gabriel for the next A-kon (a long while away, but I think it's good to start planning early).

The problem is, I have no idea how to pull off his face. I've worked with theatre makeup in the past and that could possibly work for the white half on the bottom half of his face, but I have no idea how to pull off the "black shadow" look on the top half, especially considering that you can't see his eyes (also, it's not really a shadow, as you still can't see his eyes when he takes his hat off). I thought of using black makeup there and buying black sclera (spelling?) lenses, but I'd like to not pay $300 for a pair of contacts I will only use once. I've never seen anyone cosplay him up to this point, so...

Any suggestions?

Honestly, I'd use a black gauze "mask" instead of makeup to simulate that effect. If you use gauze instead of a thicker fabric, it should be thin enough to see through and should achieve the look you're going for. Then I would do a white matte base on the bottom half of the face that isn't covered by the mask.

Just my $.02

Hooray for Alan. Unfortunatly, I think you're going to have to bend the character design and ignore the black. What kitsunered said about the gauze could work, and I think theater makeup would work well for the white. Oh, and don't forget a littile lipstick for his lips.

I'm happy someone's doing a Big O character.
