HELLO! ^^ t3h original Inutaisho here just wanting to discuss possible cosplayers for Menomaru, Kaguya, Inutaisho, Izayoi, Takemaru, Ai, or any other character from the InuYasha movies!

I know my inutaisho isnt complete nor perfect(OMG I SOOO HAVE TO PERFECT IT!) anyway! I am going to complete my Inutaisho(and if you dont know him by that, (inuyasha/sesshoumaru)'s dad , also reffered to as Taisho-dono, Taisho-sama, Inu-daiyo, Toga, etc etc) lets just leave it at Inutaisho or Inu-papa because it's easier and it fits him ^^

ok check my gallery for a few pictures of the "base" of thew costume, i should have it totally complete by Anime Expo next year! ^^
i will also be workign on a Izayoi costume so YAY!

I have a pair of friends across the country also doing the Inutaisho/izayoi couple so im sure there's more
anyone else planning it? ^^
and any other comments would be nice too ^^

While it wouldn't be a movie character exactly, I have considered making the 3rd movie version of Sesshoumaru's costume, which would just involve making a new kimono and sash, not much work but it's a version i've never seen done. He also looks younger and his hair's shorter, did anyone else notice that? Here's a couple pics for those who haven't seen the movie.

I've got an InuTaisho costume I have been wearing since April at MTAC (pictures in my gallery). Seems like I was the first in North America to have the costume. Would be nice to see an Izayoi.

Several of the other costumes you listed have been done by Florida cosplayers.

I've seen one Izayoi and it's by a woman who rather annoys me and can't seem to cosplay anything else but Inuyasha but oh well x_x I'd definitely like to see a Kaguya since the second movie is my absolute favorite >^^<

Looking around, I think I see who you mean. Her kids are nice, but she gave me a death glare when I placed in a competiton & her group didn't. Not an Izayoi I would want to cosplay/get pictures with - plus I would like to see the multilayer kimono Izayoi instead of sleeping/labor kimono Iz.

Yea I met her at my first small anime convention (you were there by the way in the dress in your avatar o_o C-kon? unless I was imagining things), and when we talked she just went on about all she had and how she was the first one to get this or this. x_x I mean, bragging is okay, but if that's all you do that's scary. And I like 16 at the time. The need to feel big over a 16 year old? O_o

Anywho! I agree I'd like to see a more formal Izayoi, since those layered kimono from that time are hella difficult. Since there are so many layers x_x I don't know if I'll ever get around to Inuyasha cosplay, but if I ever do I want to get pictures wiff yoooou! >^^<

Actually making the kinu (robes) isn't that difficult- especially if you do the summer version- unlined, with false layers. (the true kariginu mo was only worn by the highest nobility, and only from about 950-1100, after that even the royal family used false layers in their robes) I've made one like it, but done to fit the period color combinations. If you do the summer version it's not too heavy either. (I'd still recommend wearing it just for fall and winter cons though, because even if you use lightweight cotton like I did, the multiple layers will be hot. Be sure to add the drawstrings to the bottom of the hakama so you can draw them up to walk in. (they'll be blousy just like the men's hakama of the period was. Make the hakama out of fairly lightweight material. (the stiff modern hakama originated during the Meiji period.)

No, I pretty much stick to cons in the Southeastern US. Dragon Con will probably be my last 2004 con (went to Animazement and Otakon earlier this year)

Yep, that was me at C-kon 1 - and also when I meet her. Keri1966 wore her kinu (robes) there too, if they were the right colors I could say she is my Izayoi but Iz favors pinks - maybe a new outer robe is being called for ;-) (I got that nice overly pink asian material when textile fabrics had its moving sale)

Are you bribing me with free fabric? ;) I might be convinced if it's free...

LOL
i just went to Joanne's and took a look at the fabrics... i found fabric for 2 other cosplays but im not sure on the robes for Izayoi yet....i think i'll just go for the fake layers and have thick interlacing on the outer robe ^^;

Snort. I was already planning to make a robe out of it. We can share - if the piece of material is long enough to make a outer robe as I remember you had a bit of a train going on, and if it doesn't clash horribly. I will have to see Youko's outer robe with your robes to see if need to make changes to fit for a new robe. (I actually think Youko's outer robe would go better colorwise, but the length may be off)

Heh, I was teasing. I'll probably make one sometime, if I can find pink fabric (maybe more rose colored) that wouldn't clash terribly.

o and i got fabric for Izayoi:
(fabric is 50" wide)
3 yrds blue cotton(for top and "layers")
3 yrds marron/red cotton (for pants and "layers" i think it's enough do u?)
4 yrds white cotton (linning for robes and top
4 yrds pink light velvet?(its fuzzy but not terry) fabric (ooo soft :D) for outer robe
1/2 yard yellow cotton
1/2 yard lime green cotton
1/2 yard purple cotton
1 yard pink satin for floral/circle pattern on outer robe

for the little yellow flowers on the robes in the big pink circles will be embroided.

i think the hardest part of the entire costume will be the collar for the top and the cut out pattern for the robes...i have an idea of what we shoudl do...(large butcher paper to draw on :D)

ok when i got the fabric for my inutaisho/sesshoumaru kimono....i got 5 yards of white satin and that was plenty for both top and bottom, so im sure the 3 yards for top and 3 for bottom is plenty!

My Sesshoumaru pants took about 4 yards of 45" wide fabric, but then again they're bigger than most. I was going to get 4 yards for Shippo's pants just in case as well(if I can find that feakin color!). As for the kimono's, 3 is more than enough, I only used 2 1/2 for my Shippo kimono, Sesshoumaru took a little more because of the haori sleeves. Man, Izayoi has to be one hot costume...I tried wearing a sample juban (just another one of my cotton kimonos) with Shippou and it was unbearably hot...which makes me want to make the Sesshoumaru juban from silk or something...since I have to wear one (the cotton is kind of see through.) With Shippo I'm just going to make a faux eri sugata...cotton looks very good in pictures for kimonos but is very hot...yuck. Good luck with the Izayoi, if I lived anywhere near AX I'd love to see your skit as well, but I'm an east coast con kid. ^_^

*edit* All this talk of Inu 3 movie costumes really makes me want to do a retro Sesshy costume, even though 3 people would know what it's from...It is kind of...fruity looking though isn't it? *see atachment*

hehe! im making the multi layered izayoi costume! im gonna die wearing it but its soooo pretty!lol. so far I only have the patterns for the kimonos, haori and hakama. as soon as i get money im starting the beast! (thats what I have renamed the costume, lol)

am I crazy for making 5 actual full kimonos?lol. lets just say im dedicated.....and mad...lol

edit: you know im re-thinking this. To save money and to save my self from passing out from heat exhaustion at a con....I think what im going to do is make the hakama and haori like i was going to, all normal n stuff. And then for the kimonos, Im going to make the pink outer one, the full green one that comes after that, and then, since the green one will be under the pink one and all you can see are the ends of the sleeves I will add the fake layers to the green one and that way you wont be able to see the stitching from the fake layers...does that make sense? yeah...lol

Terry cloth I think would look a bit strange, but the rest sounds great, that pink satin one sounds like it's almost perfect for the outermost robe with the type design it has on it. And yeah sounds like you have enough fabric. :) (even with dropping the terry cloth fabric)

well you wont see the stiches on mine because first im folding the cloth and then stuffing it with quilt lining, so that it seems like it has lotsa layers and puffs up a bit. ^^;
