Depends on how far away from AB you are. if you could drive or take the train everyday than don't bother with the room. but what's nice about the room is that sometimes you just need to crash. and if you don't have a room you kinda can't really crash anywhere. another thing, dealers room. it's very annoying to have to carry bags of stuff you buy..especially big things. so it's nice to have a place to stash them. they had a bag room where you could drop it off for a fee. but that like everything else at a con as a line. and that's extra money to fork over. Having a room also allows you the opertunity to have a place to go when it gets to the midnight run of convention stuff. Raves, movie hours till the next morning. boston shuts down it's tran service at 12:30. and i'm not sure how parking lots deal with late hours. but if you are going for a room, you should try and get it booked early cause man oh man a lot of other people are doing the same. you gotta fight for your room

Oh... thats a tough one. if you leave no where near boston then yes, you need a room. you don't just need one to sleep in, but if its the middle of the day and you're exhausted, like most get, then you need a place to go to and rest. We were staying at a friends house outside of the city and we would drive to the train and then take the train in daily. we had to get up sooner to make it to the con at a decent time, and we had to find places to crash at the hotel were it was being held to rest. there were some nice chairs on the balcony that I napped in. this next year its going to be held in its own convention center, so that will be nicer to have more space for the con. If you live just a short way from the con center, then you might jsut take the train in, and save money on the room. Its really gonna be up to your mom, but i would recommend trying to be as close as financially possible to the con center to make it easiest on you, and book the room early to get the cheapest rates!
SketchCreations!-- I seen you at Anime Boston and you're awesome! by far the best Vash I've ever seen! (and how you didn't die in the costume from the heat and sweat and glompings, i will never know! Kudo's to you!)

Ha ha....well, i was close to dieing. hope you have fun at your first con....and i hope my next costume will be up to par with my Vash. not only for personal reasons but to make fellow con goers have memorable experiences. Even though i could technically take the train in daily. i'm getting a room. cosplaying is a tough occupation.

If a hotel is too expensive, try a guest house. I think that's where I'll be staying. It's only a few blocks from the con, and it's a helluva lot cheaper than a hotel.

I'm not even sure yet if we're getting a house, hotel or if we are going to luck out and find a friend near the city again... only time will tell! I would go with a cheapo super8 dealy, but i have no idea whats in the area to stay at! guess i should at least start researching that out....

Oh.. guess i left that out of my signature... oops. *smacks forehead at dumbness* I'll change that sig and then the whole world will know my grand cosplay schemes. you are all so lucky!
as for the deal with your friend--> let them know early and maybe she can make a deal that she won't miss anydays before the day of the con and then her parents may make the exception that she can go. she might also be able to strike a deal in which her parents will allow her to go if she can maintain a certain grade in her classes which shows that she is ok if she misses a class. *just an idea*

Well, I SOMEHOW managed to make it to the First UNOFFICIAL Anime Boston back in October 2001, but I'm gonna try to make it for AB 2005.

It's the same weekend as my Prom, so what I think is gonna happen, is that I go to Prom on FRI, Come up Early Sat., and go to the con for the remainder of Sat and most of Sun then head back to NJ.

As one of the founders of Anime Boston and the chairman of Anime Boston 2005, I can assure you that the "convention" held in Boston in October 2001 was in absolutely no way, shape, or form associated with Anime Boston. :sulk:

The first Anime Boston was held in 2003.

Yeah, the 2001 anime con was by Hobbystar (http://www.hobbystar.com/), a canadian company which does CNAnime every year. They did the Anime/comics/scifi one in 2001 and the scifi/comic one in 2002, I attended both. And as Patrick said, it had nothing at all to do with AB.

Cheers

Ps. If you want to tour Boston, take one of our infamous "Duck Tours" lol. Havn't been on one myself, but I've meet people who work there and always wave at the people on the tours and they look like they're having fun :japan:
It's even more fun waving at them when you're in costume lol
