Ok, kill me if you want, but here's my idea. Have one or two big gatherings each year designed to get as many people together as possible. Then have many small meet-ups during the year to get locals and people willing to travel together. We could have threads for the different areas so people who live closer together can plan things out.

We'd still have the forum to get to know each other, but small meet-ups will build the unity and formalness that you want. Formal organizations break their national and international groups into regional, and local groups so that the responsibility is divided among the entire organization equally. I've been working with fan groups for years. The division into locales strengthened us rather than dividing us.

The more time you have to plan for an event the better it will be. Having one or two big events will give everyone time to get things together, to make plans for transportation, etc. We would have time to adequately plan activities. It would mean more successful gatherings.

after the next gathering, lets all sit back and get a little more organized, not in a sence with roles and such, we're an open group and everyone has just as much say regardless of where they live and whatnot and should speak up, but it'll be easier to organize gatherings once we have a mapped idea. so read tat and we'll come back to these ideas later.
