Ok I think people are asking for a thread so I guess here it is. Toss any ideas avaliable in here now.

Ideas thread ONLY, this is where we can choose the few to be the canidates to be voted for the next gathering.

Let the games roll.

next summer we should go to Emerald Point... or Carowinds...
They're expensive, but most people would have fun :P

EDIT: A plus is that Carowinds is closer to the SC peoples here :3

I think I have to second, like...all of the above ideas. ^^; Also, maybe something around the weekend before Thanksgiving? :P I know a lot of people get that entire week off, so...yeah. O.o

What about something for New Years?

KawaiiEdea
09-29-2004, 12:06 AM
I think we talked about doing a huge group cosplay from one anime/movie/game (whatever) as a new year's thing....but it hasn't been discussed since then xD It'd be fun to pick something like...um...battle royale...ff8..sailor moon..something with a bunch of characters/extras to choose from. :)

we could do a flashmob, with a buncha the same character, like the one in japan with alllll the agent smiths that was on the internet some itme ago :D
battle royal costumes mostly look teh same anyways :P
i like this idea, i dunno that ff8 has that many characters, or easily cosplayable and recogniseable ones , if thats what we're lookin for >_>. and sailor moon, 'plz no ;_;'

i <3 sewing party idea :D help our sewing education :DD

yeah sailor moon uuugh..xDDD ff8 has all the garden uniforms/SeeD uniforms...yeah...Um..but there isn't alot of games/anime that are way recognizeable anyway.. :/ the only other one I can think of is Naruto. :d

so we've got this down...every holiday should be a cosplay gethering of some sort, correct? I like the idea of a themed gathering, like battle royale or something.

Carowinds isn't the best place to cosplay... too many people, too damn hot, and the rides will murder your costumes. And Emerald Point...? A water park...??? o.O;;

Scarowinds would be a good time, though, I guess
Maybe just a regular old recreation park, we can plan events and things to fill up the fun. Or is that what you guys normally do? I haven't been to any gatherings, they've all been too far away

When I suggested Emerald Point or Carowinds, we won't have to cosplay you know... it would be nice to just meet up and run around once in a while without worrying about wearing something silly ^^;;

Upon thought, I don't really think having something for every holiday would be too great, as people (like my close friends and I who are also in CCR) like to have little parties and things like that, at each others houses, without having to worry about a large group coming or having to skip out on an event.

I think the point of making it around a holiday was so that more people could go.....since holiday=break from school for most people here.

If no one minds my two cents...I havent been to a theme park in ages so that sounds really fun...I like the sewing party idea too, just cause I could really use some lessons in sewing  I only live like 2 hours from Raleigh so I really dont mind traveling and there really isnt anything to do where I live.

DDR Faery Spice

possibly....I haven't been in years. Which makes sense cos of the overcharging. And the wierd Kronik poseurs who're always around. Anywho, I like the idea of a sewing party.....and possibly another get-together in the more southern area of the state(i.e., Charlotte, anyone?).
If we did the theme group thing, may I suggest Guilty Gear(and X, and X-2) or Soul Calibur(again, pick a version)? Fighting games have a lot of characters, plus multiple costumes for each, so we wouldn't have to worry about lack of cosplayable characters.

KawaiiEdea
10-07-2004, 06:49 PM
Those are good ideas (soul calibur, guilty gear)! Only problem is ,we probably wouldn't be allowed to take weapons with us-wherever we choose to 'gather' :x

SephirothXer0
10-07-2004, 09:26 PM
well weapons don't make the costume, we do

A fighting game is an ideal choice for group cosplays ;)

KawaiiEdea
10-07-2004, 09:54 PM
When weapons (after all..,the key word here is fighting game.) are an important detail and key part of a character and their costume...it becomes just as necessary as the type of fabric,wig/hair,makeup,etc.

SephirothXer0
10-07-2004, 10:20 PM
well if U can't recognize yourself without your weapon...I guess we can do something like... rival schools, battle royale, tekken... even...dare I say...mortal kombat??? XD

Kilayi
10-07-2004, 11:23 PM
or a fighting game, like Street Fighter.... no weapons there... and many versions and games too

or we could do Chrono Cross, there are 45 playable characters, plus more NPCs... if you can;t find someone in there, you are waaaay too picky :/

Speaking of fighting games to cosplay as, there's always King of Fighters. They have a bunch of different characters. =D

Inamichan
10-08-2004, 10:06 PM
^^; You could always do a more general theme, like just fighting games. That way if someone wants to cosplay Soul Calibur as one of the weaponless characters, it wouldn't put everybody out. :\

if we're doing a group thing, why not something everyone could do, lest everyone aim to make a costume for an event and the past repeat its self, we could do something simple like tshirt ninjas, ararar, simple enough for every member! :D
I had a King of Fighters costume, but I dread it so. I don't plan to do another fighting game cosplay (dunno any other characters in em). don't wanna cosplay random characters I dont know, ex Chrono Cross.

I was thinking if we do a group cosplay, we should do something both easy and incredibly familiar like what Link said. I suggest if we do any group cosplay at all, we should be the entire Ranma 1/2 cast. There are multitudes of characters, a great deal of the costumes are easy, and some can be really fun. (Mousse has the coolest jacket. He's got everything in there. Hmm... I wonder if he has Wi-Fi in there, Heh.) We probably have enough to get down the entire primary cast and even some secondary characters. (IE: Ranma/Ranma-chan, Akane, Kuno, Kodachi, Ryouga/P-chan, Nabiki, Kasumi, Genma/Panda, Shampoo, Mousse, and Dr.Tofu.) That's about fourteen costumes counting the cursed forms as costumes themselves. And from making the Akane costume (Basically throwing together shit at the last minute! :D) I can say it was pretty easy.

I like that idea, Jazon.

I know we throwing out some ideas, but I just wanted to know when and where are we going to have our next event. I am thinking maybe next month. I don't think it would be a good idea in October because October is almost over. Not enough time to work on costumes. Unless, anyone wants to do something around or on Halloween. :)

Im thinking something around thanksgiving break works myself. Halloween would be fun, except AUSA is that weekend as well...is anyone besides myself up here going to AUSA?

really simple cosplay is a great idea, since I have like no skills when it comes to sewing. I so need lessons...

hmm, how bout sometime around christmas break...or is that to far away to wait?

Kilayi
10-19-2004, 07:10 PM
The hard thing about group cosplays are that its hard to find an anime that everyone is familiar with or wants to do.

I say having like 2 or 3 sorta related shows to choose from would be better than saying that you have to be from the same one, even if you dislike it :/

Oh Halloween is out for us Asheborlians, as we are all doing something together, and thats like 5 or 6 of us :P

It would depend exactly when during Christmas break, No Dec 24-25 or Dec 31-Jan 1 for me, standing plans from last year ~_~

SephirothXer0

Ranma is fun...close enough 2 a fighting game

Toastersix
10-21-2004, 03:06 PM
Well despite not many people playing them... the Suikoden games have TONS of characters.. I'm talking... TONS. That'd be fun for a group, or X/1999 characters. There's a ton of them, too! Or Fruits Basket. There's a ton of Sohmas and then there's Hana, Uo, Tohru, and the Yuki Fan Club Girls and Hana's brother and Tohru's mother and etc etc etc. xD Or Angel Sanctuary! ^^;

But Ranma 1/2 sounds like a good idea, too. ^_^ I already have a Ran-Chan outfit. heh

DDR Faery Spice
10-21-2004, 04:32 PM
hmmm...if we do ranma, i already have a ran-chan outfit... but i personally would prefer to do something in the broad category of fighting games. but then again, that's just me.
anywhat, i would think thanksgiving break would be better than winter break, because 1) it's not gonna be as cold(cold=t3h 3v|L); 2) winter break for most=family times; and 3) did i mention it's cold then?
maybe we should start working out times and places. I suggest Charlotte. Laser Quest, anyone? what better place for a bunch of fighting game characters? ^_^

... we need to figure out more, different things to do than arcades and picnics, but what else is there for us as a big group? O_o

And I would like if we had just a category, the suggested was fighting games, that we could do anything from that category, as I don't want to cosplay a character I don't know, like Link said. I also don't want to waste time and money making a costume from a series like Ranma, to which I have no desire to cosplay :/ Someone will always disagree, and a broader choice should be available, like a "Plan B"

A group thing would be lovely to do, but maybe we should all put it off until everyone is more ready and interested in it and we've got more organization to boot.
And I agree with Edea about lazer tag now, since we just did lazer tag anyways :D

oh I know, let's rent out the Holiday Inn lobby and have a CCR convention! Who's puttin up the money?? :D

I had an idea of gettin money together and rent a cabin in the mountains, a beach house, or (someone took my idea) a hotel convention room for a small private con with part LAN party, DDR, Etc. but there's always the money situation, I'm running low.

There really isn't much else to do that involves something fun to do as a cosplay group besides cons and cosplay picnics -involving picture taking. I think meeting up and just hanging out gets old fast. Perhaps once most of us have a few costumes under our belts that we worked hard on and are proud to show off..we'll be able to have get-togethers and such more cosplay themed and oriented. Like photoshoots for one.

That's a very good point.

As for something bigger that would require lots of teh moneys, it wouldnt be as fair to those who couldnt afford it if it was a lot and stuff. And right now I'm low myself. We could come up with fundraisers and then do a big thing somewhere or some type event.. the more resources or work it'd take from all of us individually or even as a group, the more planning it will take. a difference from the random gathering plans then random attendance. Or something else. Yet, right now we aren't really together enough to be organized for such a thing. Not that we don't hang out enough, we're not organized enough. We shouldn't try to hang out too much, its too straining because we're a big widespread group. Tide yourselves over with small hangouts between one another... but anyways
we're just not organized enough and shouldnt push to be right away until we've been used to gathering a little more regularly and stuff. not always finding new things to do, thats nice once and awhile. but we're a cosplay group so picnics and cosplaying, pictures and stuff, sewing = point.
and if we were to plot something big or overnight somewhere at a hotel or con type thing, the majority of this group would probably have to seek parental approval...

I agree with you there. Especialy the parent part.

Going back a little about the costumes. I think someone mentioned school uniforms. I know that not everyone, but a vast majority of cosplayers have some sort of school uniform in their cosplay closets. Maybe we could all cosplay in those; you can be from any series, any genre, and any character you want as long as you have some sort of school uniform. I also go with Links other more general ideas, but I thought I'd go ahead and re-mention this.

hmmm, we need to find a place somewhere where everyone can come from all over and when (I know this has already been talked about). Looking at North Carolina in general Asheboro, Sanford, and Albemarle are the most centered (in a triangle) towns.

Timimg is also an issue as many of us are busy with school and exams until christmas break.

Looking at old threads there was a closed thread about a New Years thing (suggestion).

I dunno yet for what the next gathering, answering the when, where, and how questions.
