Since it finally happened, and I think we all knew it would eventually (though I must say I'm rather surprised it took this long), the previous RE/Biohazard cosplay thread has been close due to being too off-topic. I'm starting this new thread so that we can talk strictly about RE cosplay.

Well, I'm almost finished updating my RE4 Leon costume. I'm just waiting for the new ammo pouch to arrive in the mail. And btw, rpd_girl, in case you didn't see my post in the other thread, that new Capcom game you were talking about is called Demento.

I went to EBgames today to reserve a copy of Resident Evil 4. They are giving out this making of RE4 dvd if you preorder, You can use the DVD to study exactly what type of items leon wears to perfect your costume.

Also I saw the grudge this past weekend it wasn't bad, I liked the makeup they used for the ghost, the white face make up will be great for someone who wants to make a scary zombie or monster costume.

I'll might be a zombie this weekend October 31, need a lot of fake blood for the costume, though it'll look a little wierd because i'll be wearing a Red Ribbon (http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/ongoing/redribbon02.html) on my costume.

You-know-who-you-are:

You like ramen soup and can't afford a chicken wrap. Whoopie.

You are going to some store after work and -oh! - you happen to like your costume (which does NOT make your post suddenly "on-topic"). Whoopie.

You really like posting off-topic and it looks like it's deliberately BECAUSE you've been asked not to by the Cosplay.com staff.

It sure looks like you would like a temporary ban from Cosplay.com, perhaps because you will need the time to concentrate on your alleged wedding. This way you can blame it on the mods instead of having the self-control not to post random spam.

......Well?

rpd_girl

wow. really. I didn't mean to start any anger.. and I was posting mainly to the family of RE kids who feverishly posted every day. I was going to drop a friendly note to the admins, but I'll sum it u here for my friends to share as well.

I'm really surprised by our board monitor. I've had mini covos with her in the past, and I know she is forum freak as much as the rest of us, mainly why I am suprised.

I've already discussed this with others who post regularly, but when the old thread shut down, I glanced back a few pages, and we were extremly on topic. If i recall, the boys were discussing and identifying the correct fatigues, weapons, holsters, vests that are on the upcomming Resident Evil 4 game that Archelon has a jump start on cosplaying.

Perhaps whoever complained only read the most recent page (the RE thread seems to go through pages fast since it is so polular), or wasn't interested directly in the current convo or was confused by it. One topic that may seen "off topic" to casual RE cosplayers is the long debated "service vs squad" argument, one we have agreed to disagree on, but still extremely relevant to cosplayers... what do you print on your STARS vest? Squad or Service? I can see how someone jumping into the middle of the thread, or someone not familiar with the RE universe might not understand it.

As for true off topic convo... yes, here and there someone might post something mundane "I'm sooo tired from my finals this week, but I stayed up to post on here" or "man, I have the flu, so I am home bored... just checking in with you guys".... but that is what comes, and I hope is expected to evolve, when a real community is formed. But the real thread that ties the threads in this online community together is the interest and dedication to cosplaying, and in our little corner of the costuming world, Biohazard. And beleive me, after 2 or so years together, if a few posts or 2 strayed, we'd allways come back together, and this is seen especially when new posters joined in for our help and support in their projects.

After the defense of my comrades, I have to ay for myself, I've played nice for over 2 years on cosplay.com. I love it here, and I have made some amazing friends online, and in real life (including my soon to be husband after this saturday http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=31841 ). It's so awesome to be at a con, and have tons of other cosplay.com members come up to me and say "hey! are you rpd_girl? I like your stuff." Not to mention to other RE cosplayers who read the forum and AIM me for help and suggestions.

Basically... lets get back to normal, remeber why we are on here is to meet people, talk about RE stuff, and mainly build friendships. So if we were to ban someone for an understandable randomness, then it seems like a shame. It's a shame any of us should have to defend ourselves.

Archelon<<< , really, I won't be able to dress up, because I am getting married to "Amano Jyaku." (you knew that) And we are having a costume contest at work too that's I'll miss! *sigh of dissapointment* I'd beat out the whole company. But my GB costume, or Jill? I think I'm going to wear my RE3 Jill for my bachelor party out in the French Quarter, cause it's so close to Halloween, we are dressing up! Too bad my hair is long now, but I don't think I'll opt for a wig, even though Mako-san's look really good on her. ;) *I'm not posting this just to be on topic, my old post mentioning the costume party and my wedding was deleted, and I am off work, so I'm being more detailed ^_~*

I couldn't have said it better myself and I agree and like to add that Resident Evil (the tread) is the cosplay.com community but we to have a community within a community. Isn't the overall mission of cosplay.com to make new friends, or just STRICTLY to talk about what color the hat a character wore? If the latter was the point I doubt I would of bother to meet up with any of these folks in real life, or yet bother reading the site on a daily basis at all.
I too have never turned down someone asking for help, I've even provided graphics I made myself and diagrams to help with a costume design so has other members in the forum. I can only stress it is a community within a community, we like cosplay.com and if we didn't we wouldn't bother talking to each other.

Hey, I wasn't outing who you were. Didn't even mention any usernames.

When I get a number of complaints from other members on Cosplay.com about what is being posted in threads, what am I as a moderator to do? I did NOT handle the old RE/B thread, nor have I read it. This is a new thread which my attention was directed to today. As such, it can't really be seen as a seamless continuation of the old one, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who would not read the "old one" first, especially as it slides off the page.

I DID see an apparent bunch o' spam in THIS thread when it was pointed out to me that someone seemed to be really interested in posting off-topic in here:

Entirety of Deleted Post#1: I had ramen soup today. I really wanted a chicken wrap, but i couldn't afford it. I am going to cosplay as Jill valentine. Says nothing about where or when or why this cosplay is, but the tacked-on end sentence sure appears to be a "justification" for actually spam-posting about ramen soup and chicken wraps, which is very off-topic. (It's one thing if "ramen soup" is mentioned in the context of a long on-topic post, it's another thing if it seems to BE the post.)

Entirety of Deleted Post #2: yes, i saw your post. I need to go to the dollar store after work today. I like my jill valentine costume. OK, that one sounds really like it's pushing it with the justification. "I need to go to the dollar store" is cosplay-related? That's not clear from the post.

Entirety of Deleted Post #3: i won't be dressing up, since I'M GETTING MARRIED! but they do have a company costume costest. damn it.

who I met on 'THE ORIGINAL RESIDENT EVIL/BIOHAZARD COSPLAY THREAD"
First part of that post seems OK, but the end part seems like a continuation of the justification theme just to actually "bump" this thread or something.

If you like, I'll undelete that one (just did), though the party reference is really quite obscure. Reads like I'm listening in on a private convo, not a public one. This isn't a board for private convos. That's what PM's or chat boards are for.

How am I supposed to read all this? I just took it at face value. People on this site are typically warned about posting spam. I HAD heard that a previous thread on the subject was closed because of too much spam / too little on-topicness. When 3 out of 5 of the 1st posts in this new thread look like spam & bumping right off the bat...

It's Admin's decision that random off-topic chitchat has no place on Cosplay.Com. Why don't you PM him with this question? Honestly, I'm just here to make sure the posting stays within the rules, and the current rules are that this board is for cosplay topics only.

I enjoyed posting in the "General Chat" board when it existed, but it was removed. That's the way Admin wants it, and it's his board.

oh, of course I know u don't have it in for anyone, and it is definatly more undertsandable the way you had taken in this new thread. I was, of course, being sarcastic in my "dollar store" post. ^_~ it was a jab at our old thread, poking fun. I guess anyone who hadn't read the old one was prolly annoyed, but 2 posts of it seemed minimal. You just weren't being very nice, and I don't think I was being non-nice. *shrugs* I guess I was just astonished in the way it was communicated. If there was a serious problem with my post, I saw it was deleted, and would have seen someone had a problem, rather then the ban threats for 2 silly-type posts. But i can definatly see your position with a outside (and I don't mean that as in outsider, but as in "not in the other thread" perspective.

The all caps about my wedding was excitement (since I am days away), not anger, and was an explaination of why i won't be dressing as jill this year. Everyone in the Resident Evil forum is familiar with my wedding.

The rest of the post was more of a concern about why our old forum (which we were all very proud of, and really excited about it's momentum), was frozen. Not that it was frozen, but why it was. The whole point of it being "off topic" was silly, mainly because when it was locked, it was completely on topic for pages and pages.

Karisu-sama, thanks for you afterward explaination and understanding. I guess we take ownership of our thread, and the kids who will follow to this forum from the old would get my joke.

*my party refernce was in response to Archelon's "Costume Day" post

I made them with iron on patches, I illustrated them in Adobe Illustrator to make a clean vector file. I posted them on the old forum for everyone, when I have time later I'll sift through it. I don't know if it's still on the cosply.com server. I'm at work, so I don't have the file, but I'll try and find it later. :)

Yo, Nirv...

http://www.odedfehr.de/rea/082.jpg

To continue our debate on the G-36 bullpups... note the one being toted by Nicholai at the back. It doesn't have a Tavor front, the front is the normal piece of a G36C...

Methinks the armourers did a good kitbash attempt for this production rather than sourcing out the real weapons, although it does look as though Carlos' weapon *is* a Tavor TAR. After all, it would be easier and faster for a pro armourer to kitbash one than to go to the great lengths of ordering one from Israel.

Just some food for thought.

Nirv
10-26-2004, 10:37 AM
I see what you mean, but it is still a Tavor (Even if the Israeli's DID "borrow" designs). You can get several different firsts of Tavors. Do a search for Tavor on Google, and you will see the list.

Hmmm, there won't be any Tavor airsofts for a while. That sucks, because it would have been original having one with an RE costume :/

Trooper Cooper
10-26-2004, 01:44 PM
That's the whole point - if it has that front end, it cannot be a Tavor. And with the abundance of G-36C's in the movie, it would only make sense to be a G-36 "bitsa". The Tavor is a borrowed design, but no Tavor EVER MADE features that front end. I did search google. I'm 99% sure it's a bitsa. I need to see about getting in contact with the armourer about the issue... y'know, because I want to know what they did to 'em.

And if you take your stock Marui G-36C and make a new buttstock, you get a Tavor anyway!

Archelon

Well, the new ammo pouch came in the mail today. Since I can now wear my Leon costume on Friday, as it is finally complete, I'm going to see if I can get some pics of the new and improved version. I'll post them in my gallery whenever they get developed.

Nirv

I don't see the difference in Tavors, from the movie or the actual version.

Trooper Cooper

Look at the front end of the weapon being carried by Nicholai, in the middle. Look at the very front end - it sports the air-cooling vent holes of the G-36C and not the "universal cocking handle" groove of the Tavor T-21.

May need to zoom in to see it mind.

Nirv
10-26-2004, 08:49 PM
Ah, I see what you mean. Well I'm stumped.

Its possible that they have been slightly modified. After all, it says on movie-mistakes.com that the G36's in the first movie were cut in half.

Just re-watched the scene.

Head scientist - white lab coat with black trousers, grey/green/blue shirt (hard to see due to lighting) and tie (black and white diagonal stripe).

Techs - white trousers, white t-shirt, white jacket (as seen in auction) and a black belt. Some had black turtlenecks (specifically the woman and the third analyst).

Okay, today was mostly spent in deep thought and research. I have come up with the following near-complete lists of components for uniforms, with manufacturers where possible.

UBCS:

- Customised South African Assault Vest (added 2 additional clip attachments on the front) in black, w/ small 3x3" patch on front left strap and a 5"x5" back crest and name tag (1"x6").

- Black Drop holsters (where applicable).

- Custom-made "flak vests", padded body warmers. Black.

- Blue utility shirt.

- Elbow pads, black (Hatch manufacture, model Centurion EP300). While they seem to have been lumped in with bulk sales of all the UBCS cast's equipment, only Nicholai and Yuri appear to use them.

- Black/charcoal grey T-Shirt (Nicholai; Yuri) or Polo-neck shirt (Carlos). Banana Republic manufacture.

- 6-pocket BDU trousers in "tactical tigerstripe" camouflage (SWAT Tru-Spec manufacture).

- Knee pads, black (Hatch manufacture, model Centurion KP250).

- Black leather combat boots.

Interesting thing I noticed - the flak vest used by Oded Fehr (Carlos Olivera) changes during the scene in the school from being the normal pattern as used by Zack Ward (Nicholai Ginovaef) and Stefan Hayes (Yuri Loginova), to a strange one with what appears to be a front flap with a double press stud attachment, and then by the end of the film has reverted to the original style.

STARS:

- Custom-made "flak vests", padded body warmers. Green.

- White "STARS" t-shirts with embroidered patch on right sleeve.

- Elbow pads, green (Hatch manufacture, model Centurion EP300).

- Cream BDU/fatigue trousers (unknown manufacturer).

- Military BDU belt, green.

- Green drop holsters (where applicable).

- Green knee pads (Hatch manufacture, Centurion KP250).

What I have found is that a lot of the uniforms were very customised. For example, the sniper (played by Frank Chiesurin) as well as having his hat and CD player, used a "standard" web belt, available from most surplus places in America, with 6-colour US "choc-chip" desert camouflage pattern on it and a black metal buckle, which you don't see in the movie. Sgt. Peyton Wells (played by Razaaq Adoti) uses a leather shoulder holster rig, which you see him take off in the scene at the bridge. Many of the STARS extras in the blockade firefight used tactical vests due to the action going on - these I believe from post-shooting photographs are Blackhawk Omega vests, in green.

Umbrella "Corporation Troopers":

Now these guys are interesting. The uniforms they used were a lycra/spandex two-piece uniform which had UBCS patches sewn on the arms. On top of that, they had a vest which would appear much akin to hockey body armour. They used drop holsters not only for pistols but for batons and knives. They then had what appear to be motorcycling boots, black knee pads (presumably Hatch manufacture like the rest), and the menacing motorcycle helmets.

Umbrella lab technicians:

-White "lab coat". Better described as a white thick cotton shirt. Position of the "Umbrella" logo patch changes depending on the shirt you see, but most have the patch on the right arm. Unknown manufacture.

- Black polo-neck shirt, used by several of the personnel in the final lab scene. Presumably Banana Republic manufacture, as with those used by Oded Fehr (Carlos).

- White t-shirt, used on the most part by the lab technicians. Unknown manufacture.

- White "lab trousers", unknown manufacture.

- White trainers/shoes.

Several technicians and analysts are seen wearing lab coats with black trousers, and black/charcoal grey polo neck shirts. The lead scientist, Dr. Isaacs played by Iain Glen, is seen wearing a grey/blue/green shirt (funny lighting made working out the correct colour difficult) with a black and white striped tie.

Is that comprehensive enough? Perhaps I should write a FAQ or something _;;

And yes, that is me on UKAN. :)

Well I thought I'd pop in and say I finally got my Alice costume finished EXCEPT for her holsters. I have all 5 of her guns (ridiculously fake of course) and I'm watching several holsters on ebay. The only con I have even remotely close isn't until March anyway, so I only wanted the costume itself done for Halloween. I have to get a wig still because I can't cut my hair, I'm growing it out to be Galadriel at Dragon Con 05 - so in my pics my hair is def. too long and too light. Also gonna be working up to my old physique, though at least I have the Milla height going for me. Anywho, enough babbling, here it is and also my friend as Jill - which I made the shirt for and her leg holster (which you can barely see in this shot). http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=222438

yeah, it was the demo i played. but it was so awesome. and i heard about it not being GC exclusive. lame.

as for who mako-san could be...hm. well, the female characters are:
jill, rebecca, claire, ada, that chick from gun survivor, annette...and the ones from outbreak, which i've yet to play. i have no idea who you could be. you could try rebecca :p

That chick from Gun Survivor? As I recall, there wasn't a chick in Gun Survivor. Unless my memory is really bad, or unless you mean Dead Aim. If that's the case, her name is Fong Ling, I believe.

Nice photos. Sorry I didn't bring my Umbrella Lab Zombie. Going to bring that costume to the next two cons. Any suggestions on how to make it epecially gruesome? I'm hoping to incorporate smell and sound in it.

Everyone take a moment and give a polite golf clap to trigunvash for the success of his Resident Evil panel at Anime USA. He really had a lot of great ideas to expand the panel.

I think the trivia went especially well.

Some of the questions we asked at the panel. You may have seen some of these on the other topic.

1. Which RE character share a name with a 1922 Max Schreck film about the Count Graf Orlock?

2. Name two companies that have produced RE action figures.

3. Who is credited for portraying Jill Valentine in the live-action sequences in the first RE game (1996)? Hint: She has a one-word name.

4. In RE2, what secret item (though useless in the game) can you get if you check Weskers' desk fifty times?

5. Name Jill's three hyper combos in the Marvel v Capcom fighting game for the Dreamcast.

6. Who is the only character (not including any virus created monster) to appear in the first three games?

7. What does Barry call Jill as her gives her the lock pick in the first game?

8. Name the playable characters in the bonus games in Resident Evil 2.

9. Which character in RE3 shares a name with an Italian film director?

10. What two-word journal entry appears after the one dated May 19, 1998 in the keeper's diary in the first RE?

11. What is the name of the gun shop you visit at the beginning of RE2?

We had a great panel and I think the Katsucon panel will be even better, then on to Otakon 2005. Hope you guys can make it.

We need to represent in the cosplay at those cons.

Hope to see all of you guys soon.

Hi there! New here,

For anyone that's interested, I saw in the old RE thread someone was posting about wanting a STARS ID card. Well, I've recreated them and will gladly make them for those interested. I can insert your name, pic, custom ID #, and all you have to do is print and laminate it, but please do not reproduce. I spent a lot of time getting these perfect. So if you want one, post, pm, or email me.

note: I'm not posting a pic because I've had my work ripped and passed off as someone else's in the past. I love helping others out, but won't stand for that kind of disrespect.

For making a PASSABLE NVG headset, a good base for starting would be to gut an M1 helmet liner (post-war type is perfectly good) and to use the headband and straps as a base. As for connecting it, there's the hard part. Webbing strips and some form of docking plate would be good (available from hardware shops), and then make up the "hardware" parts from wood/resin/whatever.

It won't look particularly professional, as I said, it would only be passable. But, it's something, and it isn't string!

Speaking of which.... I saw Ju-On last night... and let me tell you... it was SCARY! The make-up for most of it was just all white faces with black around the eyes. Like the little kid, they showed a close-up of his eyes, and he had black liquid eyeliner around his eyes, and the rest was white.... it looked cheesey then... but most of the time it was pretty impactful! In other words.... alll the CG in the RE movies looked CG... but this subtle use of makeup was pretty freaky!

Archelon

Even SD Perry changed it to Service in the novelization of RE0. Even after all the other novels said Squad. I guess it just takes some people longer to admit when they're wrong. >.>

rpd_girl
12-01-2004, 05:08 PM
but, in the players book that copmes with the original game in the cardboard oblong box (1st edition) it says Squad on the emblems and descriptions. (I'm pretty sure, I thought it was the other way around, but I looked at it the other day)

Now, this doesnt settle it... it just shows inconsistancy within the translations.

So.... if you put either on your costume... it would be correct based on the proven information gathered on the forum, but Service seems to be the initial intent by the developers. :) It' seems o come down to your preference for your costume

Archelon
12-01-2004, 05:40 PM
Well, if you look at the backs of the uniforms of the STARS members, on the vests, it says Service.

rpd_girl
12-01-2004, 06:01 PM
inconsistancy within the translations.

Nirv
12-01-2004, 08:33 PM
Its officially Service. If you think otherwise, then you are wrong.

Want more proof? Check the S.T.A.R.S poster behind Weskers desk in RE2. And if you people STILL somehow want to disagree, then I will take a friggin picture of it and show you all.

If you want to do a "proper" S.T.A.R.S costume, then you want to use Service, not Squad. You can't have a "preferance" because there is no such thing as Special Tactics and Rescue Squad, its fictional (In the RE Universe that is). You might aswell have "Special Tactics and Uber Death D00D's" written on the back of your vest.

Eh.. you'll be lucky. They disappeared from stores atleast 2 years ago, and according to sellers were shoddy and poorly made. So... you'll have to go with one of the many different alternatives, but they won't be the same as the game's vest (which was totally customised - even the reproduction wasn't the same as the one in the game).

As an aside, I've ammended my Resident Evil: Apocalypse kit list with new additions and revelations, so if you're interested, I'll post it/send it to you.

they are awesome stuff and I just called the store and they were really used on the movie... too bad they are too much $$$ for me, specially w/ exchange rates the price triples for me....

Premiere Props received the entire prop catalogue of RE:A, with a few small exceptions (namely stuff that wasn't in stores as it had been smuggled out). It's thanks to monitoring their auctions and further research that I've managed to compile lists...

I've posted one version in this thread already, I believe, but I have updated it since.

I wouldn't reccomend buying a movie prop.. why spend the money! Well.../ at least... for me the fun is finding and making stuff onm my own. yippie! I like figuring out what would work and how to make it. :) Who cares if it isn't authentic, it's all fake anyways.

 again.. I'm just going to say inconsistency within the translations.

Really... it's abvious that they tried to change it to squad for the initial launches of the RE games in America... but they didn't change it in everything. This happens alot from, manga and anime, to even movies and DVDs. why is that so hard to comprehend? It's not that big of a deal. and... "Special Tactics and Uber Death D00D's" wouldn't give you the S.T.A.R.S. acronym anyways :p

ANYWAYS >>> she looks soooooooooooo pretty! Ok, now I'm excited for the game.... I see the mansion type place more... I'm gflad they aren't in the village the whole time... that looked boring.

hopefully it still continues the RE story line. because from what i have read and observed was that they will change it completely. and according to the story line that umbrella was taken down by the government. so seeing ada wong was a big relief for me. who cares about crazed villagers anyways? and flying monks, it looks like leon went back into time, oh and the villagers looked like the amish.

It's a mistranslation in the instruction manual that it's Squad. In game, the character models have Service on the back of their uniforms. If it's in the game, it's the truth.

Sorry to say it, RPD Girl, but that is a REALLY crap attitude...

You're basically advocating someone turning up in a costume which in reality looks nothing like that of a character... authenticity is AMAZINGLY important, otherwise you're not doing something right... and why bother doing something if you're going to do it a dis-service... :/

Having spent so long doing "Aliens" costuming, as well as WW2 re-enactment, we try to get the peak of authenticity in all our kit (to a degree), and I take that as an insult... Are you saying those guys shouldn't try to be realistic because all their kit is reproductions? Should Aliens costumers not bother because it was all "future stuff"?

I would much rather have all the right kit, and KNOW my kit is right, than be the kid who made the vest which in the right light and from far away who is proud that they pulled it off, but knows it's still wrong...

Gah... </rant>

In fairness, you are doing a costume for a character in a game which is as yet unreleased... more people'll probably recognise you once RE4 hits the shelves...

ermm.. i don't see how that is a "crap" attitude at all... all I was saying was I, MYSELF, take joy in MAKING my own costumes. I was stating why I PERSONALLY would rather not spend the money. If someone gave me a authentic prop for free, that'd be awesome.... but when it comes down to my personal cosplay, What is FUN FOR ME, is the process of CREATING the costume, rather then BUYING it. Thats just me... everyone likes cosplay for their own reasons. Some like it for the detail and accurracy.... I like it for the creation process... I like the scavenger hunt of find stuff and putting it together, even if it isn't exact, it's the journey, not the destination I enjoy.

I didn't say AT ALL to make it look nothing like the character... as I said... the fun part FOR ME is finding out how to take what you got, and make it look like the character, because that is the whole point.

Maybe I misinterpated you, or you me, but I'm sorry, but I don't see how thats a crap attitude. It's just my personal choice. I didn't mean to offend. I wasn't saying that buying expensive props is a bad thing, I was just saying it's not MY thing (heck, I get most of my cosplay supplies from Goodwill, it's so much fun to scavenge), and the rationale behinde it FOR ME, not everyone.

LEON JACKETS <<< I got one like Leon's before, check out Burlington (I think we talked about this before) , Xmas season is a great time to find stuff ! :) new stock is just coming out, and they aren't too pricey either!

Maybe I misinterpated you, or you me, but I'm sorry, but I don't see how thats a crap attitude. It's just my personal choice. I didn't mean to offend.

It was more the fact you started the statement with an objective "I wouldn't bother buying a prop...", than anything else. Making props is great if you can actually make it the same as the original. But if it's going to look naff (like me in a lot of cases - best I can do is patch sewing), and there's something you can get fairly cheaply (which is the case with most of the stuff from the RE movie, with a few exceptions - Aliens is very expensive to get kit for), then the kit is the way for most people... if they want to get the stuff right.

What can I say... having spent so long doing military re-enactment, in the presence of and becoming "a stitch-counter", I have become pretty damn elitist. Being a university student, with no job, I'm pretty poor. But being industrious to make money for stuff, and saving my pennies, is also pretty rewarding :)

I'm sorry I let off on one... but I have to put up with people in my hobbies who, even with economic means, put in lots of effort for little point in crap customised uniforms. They expect praise, but they don't look right at all and in fact only receive resentment and lambasting. "Doing it right" has been my goal too long - I'm elitist. -_-

As for the company of the coat - thanks for the heads up :)

I've already seen all the pieces from the "Leon" collection. None of them are actually things he wears in the games, unless the black leather jacket is from his alternate costume in RE2, but since you can't see the back of it, there's no way of knowing. The jacket they're selling that's supposed to be his RE4 jacket looks nothing like the one he actually wears.

I was saying "I", meaning myself. I was just stating MY perspective. I was saying I wouldn't spend the money, ME... not anyone else.

I totaly agree with making it look authentic. I'm not big on the customising aspects of cosplay at all either. Or the making up character thing. But, if thats what is fun for ya, go for it. The only thing I've ever really adjusted was parts of my Ghostbusters costume to make it more girly. Fingerless gloves, color of goggles, etc. That costume was the most fun, because I had to find all the different things to figure out how to make it look authentic. People always ask me if I want to buy stuff, but I like to make it, you know?

You actively made a recommendation to the guy. "I wouldn't recommend buying a movie prop". That's a bit different, there...

I was always interested in the Ghostbusters props. How did you make your ectopack? :)

rpd_girl
12-07-2004, 09:03 AM
yes, I , myself, from my own perspective, would not reccomend buying a movie prop. and.... so.... what's wrong with encoraging someone to take the intiative to create something themselves? I followed that statement with "why spend the money! Well.. at least... FOR ME the fun is finding and making stuff onm my own" explaining why I choose not to, and he might feel the same... I was initiating dialogue. From my own experience I enjoy creating my own props and costumes, if he tries it he might like it, if not, then he might save up to buy one of the cool props. *shrugs* I still don't see whats wrong with that at all. Based on my personal experience and preference I am allowed to make suggestions. That is why we are here.

The proton pack was made from alot of wood, plastic (like "house for sale" and "beware of dog" signs you find at Home Depot), random plumbing, computer, and electrical parts, parts of toys and appliances (like Hot wheels tracks), lights I found on a display at work.... stuff like that. The base is wood mounted on an ALICE frame. But mainly, it was made with alot of Love, dedication.... and about 4 months of research, scavanging, and 3+ bottles worth of plastic polly and Gorilla Glue. And let me tell you, mine is VERY accurate, not perfect, but pretty damn close. All you gotta do is try! Thats where the fun is, FOR ME... and I would reccomend it to anyone. Go for it! See what you can do.

I never noticed this until seeing the much clearer resolution RE2 intro on the RE4 demo disc, but Leon's actually got a hip holster for his VP70 in the cutscenes. Also, the belt strap thing on his left leg isn't on his left leg in the cutscenes, but is actually part of his belt and on his right leg in the cutscenes. Since his gun holster is on his hip, the strap looks like where he held his knife in his RE1.5 costume. Hmm.

They were intelligent. They could speak. They'd use group tactics. Very much like the Ganado. And when you killed a Cleaner, they would dissolve, leaving no trace behind of their existence. And there's nothing to say that the Cleaners were created using any kind of virus. As for fake knife i'm not sure, Katsu is probably the most strict convention out there as far as replica weapons go, can be a pain for RE cosplayers. Not like AUSA, lets bring a rocket launcher or somthing next year lol.

Hey, Liz, its Matt. Just wondering, for Katsucon, would you like it better if I went as Chris, or Wesker, 'cause I'm thinking about dying my hair blonde. If you want me to come as Wesker, instead, I alreaddy have a costume for him done. All I need is a S.T.A.R.S. patch, which I have yet to find. Or, I can go as Nicholi if you go as Re3 Jill...the possiblities are endles...well, not really. By the way, Happy New Year...January 11th isn't too far off, now! I'm just gonna stay up all night playing Resident Evil 4...looks so friggin' cool. Wesker Style.

im going as re1 remake jill. wesker sounds cool to me. :bigtu:

So, next year, AUSA...bring a linear launcher...hmmm...sounds like fun!Hehehe. Alrighty then. Liz, I'll go as Wesker if thats alright with you, and, to you, Mr. Zombie cop Vash, I promise my presence at Katsu...but who came up with these faux weapons policies? Wesker Style

Just had a funny thought. Anyone who reads Hsu and Chan;Game Designers, by Jeremy Norm Scott, will know what I speak of. I think it would be funny to go o a Resident Evil photoshoot like the zombie versions of Hsu and Chan, because they've done numerous bits with material from Resident Evil...just a though. anyone who doesn't know who Hsu and Chan are...read the back pages of Electronic Gaming monthly. Wesker Style

If you want to see some screens from RE4 showing two new characters, head on over to www.gccafe.com (the site where I work). This is not a shameless plug, as that's the only site I've found with the pics where the pics actually work. Definitely some interesting cosplay ideas. The kid in the pirate outfit kind of looks like Alfred, to me anyway. And the guy Leon is fighting with the knife (this is a boss battle, btw, where you can only use the knife), I'm guessing it's either Nicholai or Hunk. However, I think it's more likely Nicholai.

Well, awesome to hear of someone else who likes Hsu and Chan, and Resident Evil parodies. I have an assload of EGMs with Hsu and Chan in em. I'll try and run you off a copy of the funniest ones and give em to you for Katsu. One of the best is when they did a bit on the re-release of Resident Evil, where, in a PR stunt for their copycat game, Hsu unwittingly unleashes a Progenitor-like Virus, and Chan goes all Bruce Campbell on them. Now theres a matchup I'd like to see...Chris "Shallow Pockets" Redfield vs. Ash...how cool would that be? Wesker Style

Leon...taking out Ash...I'm not so sure. But I'll tell you who could kill them all if he wanted too...Wesker. He moves like a Licker, but he's smart, agile, and strong. Plus, he has no evident weak points (i.e. giant, pulsing heart on the outside, huge ass eyeball on his shoulder, etc.)Though Chris WAS able to take out Alexia...with some seriously specialized Umbrella technology...how convienient, huh? I gues we'll never truly know. Oh...and 6 DAYS! Wesker Style

Dude...I need serious help. I'm finding myself listening to the Resident Evil soundtracks in the middle of class, reading the novels, playing the older games on my 'Cube non-stop, constantly going back to the demo, and I even found myself watching that horrible movie they call an adaptation of RE3 (Just for Milla...mega babe.) Basically, anything zombie (I know...Ganado) related. Anything from Evil Dead to Shaun of the Dead. And I think I may have OD'd on Hellsing. Is this a bad thing? Wesker Style

Yeah, I went back and played through all the RE games in their entirety awhile back in preparation for RE4. Playing RE2, it made me think, how awesome would it be if you could unlock Leon's RE2 RPD uniform as an extra costume in RE4? I mean, you could unlock Jill's RE3 costume and Chris's RECV costume in the remake. So why not?

Also, in case anyone is interested, Gamespy will be posting their RE4 review tomorrow.

Archelon
01-06-2005, 12:56 PM
Well, Gamestop is the only place that thas the limited edition RE4 version that comes with an artbook, character cel, and it's all in a nice red tin case. You also get the game's soundtrack for preordering. Now, EB Games is giving away a making-of dvd when you preorder, but they don't have the limited edition RE4.

I had a bunch of stuff posted about the RE4 intro and storyline and what not, but I deleted it, because I started a thread in the Video Game Forums about it. Anyway, I found out yesterday that the "RE4 Soundtrack" at Gamestop is actually not the game soundtrack at all. It's just a selection of songs from both RE movie soundtracks. And if you're interested in seeing what was on the Making Of dvd, it's already been posted online at www.residentevilfan.com for your viewing pleasure.

at gamestop they have a few songs from the two movies and are giving them away. i was tricked tho cause it had leon on the cover, so i thought it was game music or something. bastards!

anyway, what ever game stop gets limited-wise, you damn better be sure i'm getting it or heads will roll. i already complained to mikey about ripping up a RE4 booklet thing awhile ago. they know not to disrespect me and my RE...yeaaa

You think Gamestop's disrespecting you? Just wait until you see what Capcom's done to the storyline for RE4. Gah. I'm still bitter, and will continue to be until I play the game. And if I'm not proven wrong, Resident Evil and Capcom are dead to me. DEAD to me.

Did anyone else besides me find it strange how Leon magically got a shoulder holster and a new pouch on the back of his belt when he lost his jacket? Now, you might be thinking, "Maybe he was wearing the shoulder holster underneath his jacket." One problem. There's a strap on it that goes across his chest and it clearly isn't there when he's wearing his jacket. And it's not like he could've just put that new pouch on his belt or adjusted the strap of his shoulder holster since he was unconscious and bound all that time. Ah well. I guess I just look too much into things.

I found it funny where when you first meet Luis and you both get captured, after the cut scene where you are set free, Leon magically has all his weapons back. They could of at least made it where you go to the closet/locker and get all your weapons etc back, just for bit touch of reality.

At least now more folks can cosplay as leon without having to wear the coat, especially helpful in the summer-time (otakon).

oh god....ok. POSSIBLE SPOILER, about 5 hours into the game!

I got to the part after saving ashley where you get surrounded by teh ganado and go into the cabin where luis is. good GOD that part was hard T_T after managing to kill most of them (fucking tentacle heads!!!!), i have no shotgun ammo left. i have rifle ammo and handgun (or red9) ammo....so the decision is mine. do i fight another el gigante with no shotgun ammo, or go fight the ganado?

well, i did el gigante first. i missed the boulder a few times, then i finally hit him with it and it didn't kill him. after doing that, i figured i'd try the other route with the ganado. alright, i sniped off a few red-eyed ganado, hopped down to get the stuff in the barrels and there are 2 chainsaw weilder betty crockers! holy shit. i died...and don't know which way to go.

i figure i can always run from el gigante, shoot him once or twice with teh sniper rifle, run to the other side, shoot him again....aiyaiyai, to quote luis.

this game is so freakin awesome tho. i nearly pissed my pants when i saw the wolves!

Archelon

Go the El Gigante route. I tried both and I found the Gigante one to be much less annoying. You don't have to kill Gigante to get the key, whereas you do have to kill at least one of the chainsaw hags to get the key you need.

Don'tchya just love killing those Ganado? And I agree, that ending where they showed Saddler preaching to the townspeople, then showing him infecting everyone and the one where one's head goes...pure genius. But I'm still kinda questioning the whole "Umbrella is dead" thing. Umbrella IS the kind of company that does't go away. Why? Because Lords Oswell Spencer and Alexander Ashford created it. And don't you others who finished it think the laser hallway part was a shameless movie plug? I know I do. Wesker Style

And seeing as how Ozwell Spencer is in his late 80s, early 90s now, I have no doubt in my mind that Capcom will just say (if it ever says at all, that is) that Spencer simply died of old age. Oh well, until Capcom ever comes out and says otherwise, I still hold the belief that Osmund Saddler and Ozwell Spencer are one in the same.

I mean, seriously though. Think about it. It would be the perfect reason for Saddler wanting to make America pay. After all, America "destroyed" his entire life's work, everything he lived for. And since we know that he was extremely calculating thanks to Wesker's Report II, I wouldn't be surprised if Spencer always had Las Plagas in the back of his mind. He knew about them all along but was saving them for the worst case scenario. They were his ace in the hole, so to speak. And when Umbrella went under, Spencer went into hiding, biding his time until Las Plagas could be uncovered and revived. With Spencer out of the picture as far as everyone knew, it would have given Wesker an ample opportunity to try and take over the reins and rebuild Umbrella himself under his own vision.

And at the same time, Las Plagas may actually be out there already, in the form of G-Virus. Think about it. It was an implant in Bertolucchi, and grew, and had those tenticles, and so forth. G might actually be the dormant stage, of active, or whatever, of the Las Plagas. After all, G-Virus is purple, and so was the Las Plagas sample Luis had that Ada was after. One thing that struck me as kind of odd, though. Where was that big make-out scene between Ada and Leon. I mean, lets face it, there WERE going to kiss on the lift, until Birkin had to screw up a perfectly beautiful moment.(I'm such a pitifully hopeless romantic.) Wesker Style
