So, was anybody else disappointed with this year's convention too? I found this year's to be pretty damn bad. I spent most of my time in the game room because there was barely anything worthwhile to do.

Actually I have more fun at Anime USA than any other convention. Dunno why but I get to spend more time with friends there than at Otakon or any other con like Katsu. Or maybe I'm just happy that I made about $150 dollars selling art :X plus I also stalked Camino around cuz I found out what floor their rooms were on.

I had lots of fun. It was smaller in size than I thought it would be but it was comfortable. I didn't like the hotel very much but it was nothing that kept me from being happy.

plus I also stalked Camino around cuz I found out what floor their rooms were on.

I was watching them go up and down on the elevators. :crylaugh: I saw most of the band get in to go up at one point and someone yelled at them causing Taka to wave as the elevator doors closed.

After the concert, the band was walking by my hotel room cus the "backstage" door was right next to my room. Taka told me to take off my clothes.
*me and my friend had been right in the front and screaming that in japanese the whole concert*

...and for that reason, AUSA was a damn good con, lol

i enjoyed anime usa! its my favorite con, this year was just as fun as all the others! i got to meet lots of people that i have been wanting to meet for a long time and do tons of things. so AUSA was sucessful. except for a few minor people who like to blow things out of proportion and cause drama, but that didnt stop me from having fun. and the youth leadership group kinda put a damper on things. my friends didnt get to sing karaoke because of it. but i had tons of fun and i cant wait till next year!

This was my first AUSA, so I thought it was pretty good. I have to agree, the Future Leaders of America really made me mad. They kept running up and down our hall yelling all night long!!! And then they were up yelling at like, 5:30 in the morning. Wanted to strangle them!!

Anyway, it was great meeting a lot of people from cosplay.com (Luna, it was great to meet you!!). I hope everyone else had at least a decent time!!

I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love small cons so much because well its easier to find people and hang out and whatnot ^_^. I had a kick ass time and will probably go again next year XD. It was the perfect con atmosphere for me, and I loved the staff they were awesome XD.

Well, okay, I'll take it back and admit that the con wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. The atmosphere has always been pretty good, as like other cons. I was pretty much upset because of certain things that kept me from having the same experience I got last year(no change of clothes because of altered plans, had my extra pair of shoes stolen, and this was the first year where I DEPENDED on the elevators and stairs to move around A-USA). Yeah, sorry, but I'm a moody bastard. :P

Oh calm down, you got to see me and my friend christin get freaky on the dance floor, that should make it all worthwhile ^_^
Aside from the future retards of america and the lack of really interesting things to do, I really enjoyed myself!
I sayy we all remember to bring our bathing suit gear next time and hang out in the jaquzzi.
Koreaneyez..haha I'm glad I could contribute to your $150 earnings, your drawings are adorable!
Camino seemed to be everywhere, huh? heh,I almost asked the DJ to take a pic with me but he was walking too fast, siigh.

I think I met everyone who already posted, which again is why I find this to be the best con for me, it's so great to actually find people and just chill out,ya know? And by the way, it was nice meeting everyone and hope to see you there next year!

Out of all of the cons I've been too, this is probably my least favorite due to not being able to do the things that I already listed in the other thread, but regardless of that i still managed to any myself.

And sorry to hear about your shoes, Billy =(

Well, being staff made this con for me, then again, I was lighting and sound so I hung out with Camino and all their people setting up all day Saturday and got to watch all the main events stuff I wanted as that was my job. I was impressed with most everything but the rave. I dunno, the DJ was great (I have listened to him before) but the room sucked and the setup wasn't great.

To all the people with disappointments with the scheduling of stuff, blame the Future Yuppies of America (the same ones who started screaming about otaku worshiping Satan). Staff had their hands tied on most everything that went wrong room and set-up wise. The hotel double booked, and we couldn’t do much, other then take up the free 1st floor they gave us, that is!

aku
10-31-2004, 11:15 PM
Ah, well that explains stuff. I know that they forced Karaoke to shut down early, but I didn't actually realize that the Future Leaders were double-booked with A-USA. The dance...yes, for the past three years I've gone to A-USA, it's always been the same small room. There's a difference between cozy and "cramped". =\

the only thing that really upset me was the indian guy at check in he was a real ass. i was in pain becuase of my costume shes and my friends were at the concert and i couldnt reach em bty cell so i had no key card so i went to give him one and i showed id and everything, and he said i coudnnt get a card because my name was not tim ( name on the car i checked in with) and i was like i need a caard its my room i wont be able to check out if i dont get in. and i kept explaining it to him and he kept saying Not my problem! i wanted to just stab him in the eye with my heels. finally got a card after someone who spoke english well came out and took care of me.

My friend had key issues too. Thats a bunch of bull. The hotel staff is like...gah >_<. I lost my watch in the hotel since the velcro got caught to a towel and um yea >_<.
The Youth people pissed me off though. I didn't like the stares and comments they made. These 2 ladies on the elevator were like "OH NO........" when my friend and I were on the elevator. HOW IGNORANT IS THAT?! *sighs* But other than that I had a kick ass time and met so many people ^_~!

As a gopher the damn staff...

Mwuahaha... I'll be gopher staff year hopefully. :)

GREAT story about the youth leader people. I was in the 4chan.org panel on Saturday night. We had to keep the door open so people would know it was open. The YLs were out in the hallway making the worst noise, I ended up going out there and yelling at them. After turning around and telling the crazy people who run 4chan who was out there, they run out with their camera girl(NEVADA) pestering the group. It was hilarious! Nothing like an entire panel of crazy 4chan people running off the youth leaders.

But the small ones are always the fun ones! (for me, at least) Hehe... I actually made some friends this year ^^;;

I guess the only bad part about this con was my friends running off right before we had to do something important (like going to the cosplay rehearsal) x_x They were evil. I had to run around in my uncomfy shoes to find them. Wah~ *falls*

AUSA is one of my favorites. Was a bit disappointed that the Beat the Bard panel was cancelled, but things happen. Looked like the staff people were short staffed, but they're really great people (i'm friends with many of them so i'm a bit biased).

Messing with the religious nut jobs was fun. Thursday night i was chatting with 2 friends and mentioned that i left early thursday and got friday off because i told my boss it was a religious holiday. Said this in front of the religious nuts, and also gave an editiorial on my opinion of religion. We invited them to join us for drinks, but they ignored us. obviously, their diety does not beleive in good manners. i think i scared them a bit.

Hopefully, next year the con will be in a bigger hotel and not double booked. Seemed really crowded this year. Does anyone know why they asked at the registration desk for your room # when you registered?

Oh yeah, speaking of which, I bought the first DVD of Azumanga Daioh. Now, I COULD just borrow my friend's CDs full of the whole series, but I think I'll actually buy it, since I actually can this time around. :]

Anyway, the staff were cool guys. One of them's a friend of mine from a couple years back, so yeah, they were great. But even though they did what they could, the con itself wasn't really as great as before.

I'm glad to hear that. It's easy access for me since I can take the Metro there. I'd hate for it to relocate somewhere out of the way.

Oh, god, the youth leadership kids.
The only problem I had was someone on Friday being stupid enough to call me a "freak" to my face.
Oh man, all hell broke loose.
Well not /all/ hell, but we had a little "chat" off to the side, just to make sure he didn't harass anyone else at the con. All verbal mind you, no punches were thrown.

Other that that, the only problem I faced at the con was not finding people I wanted to find x_x

Nice to know that the religious nuts learned quickly that we could not be pushed around. Pretty much all you have to do is stand up to them and they'll back down.

Didn't get as much attitude from the front desk or the religious nuts as I was expecting, guess if you walk in with the mentality that you're not taking any crap people can be reasonable. The housekeeping ladies were soooooo nice, they gave me extra towels and let me practice Spanish with them.

heard that a Miroku was asking the women nuts to bear his child. Did anyone see him in action?

ha the mexican ladies were nice, but when my friend was in the room and the maid was giving us towels she siad that she kept hearing oh my god in spanish cuase of how messy our room was. and if i get charged becuase of a rip in the chiar that i didnt do all hell will break loose.

yeah the religionous nuts got really scared when we fought back they shut up and just stared at us like we were gonna pull a knife on em or something.

i went there knowing that they would probably say stuff to us, and i know atleast one of them took pics of me to make fun of later -.- oh well.

Some people have mentioned trouble with the hotel...and I have to agree.

First, we made a reservation for a DOUBLE room back in August. When we got there, the lady behind the desk told us that she could only give us a king-sized bed due to the fact that we were checking in at 7 and it was "first come, first serve." Is it just me, or is it when you make a reservation for a DOUBLE room, that means you GET a double room? Plus, there are four of us, two couples...how would all four of us sleep in one bed? And if we had a cot, that still means that one person would have to sleep on the floor since those cots are extremely small. So, after yelling at her (I've learned that if you make a scene, they'll give you what you want just to make you stop), a double room miraculously appeared on her screen and she gave us a room. Then, the maids NEVER came to our room. Again, four people, four towels...we ran out of towels the first night. Go figure. And they NEVER visited us, so we were stuck with those four towels all weekend. Pretty nasty...we were not impressed with this hotel at all. I know I have stayed at better for less.

They told us the same thing. We didn't really argue and I ended up sleeping on a rollaway bed. There were only two of us so it wasn't a big deal. They should give you what you reserve though; it looks really bad on them that they did this.

I've had hotels try to pull a fast one on me before, saying I reserved only for one night, that they didn't have any doubles left, that I had reserved smoking. I always get what I want. I don't even talk to the front desk person anymore once there's a problem. They tell me there's any problem with my reservation, I demand to speak to the manager. I'm not going to waste my time talking to the slack-jaw behind the desk. Once they correct my reservation, and realize their mistake, I complain about how I've been treated, and I only just now got there. I mean, if this is how I'm treated in the first five minutes, what can I expect from my stay? Perhaps the district manager will be receiving a letter.

Sometimes I get free breakfast.

We booked the room on Travelocity *wh00* and so we got the double bedded room although they were sold out....and it worked out great because my best friend (Maester Seymour) ended up being across the hall (which was way too coincidental and weird and funny XD). But yea...
And Travelocity billed us like a few weeks after we booked the room XD.
But anywho the major room problems were that I easily lost my dvd remote, watch, and a dvd and shall never see them again >_<;;. And they lacked towels....TOWELS!

They told us the same thing, she changed it pretty quick when I told her three people were not going to sleep in one bed. The maids were super nice they didnt kick us out of the room so they could clean it ( they came when we were eating lunch) we just told them to go ahead and they did everything with us there (but they did give me a funny look in my costume.)

Does anyone know why they asked at the registration desk for your room # when you registered?

I actually would up being one of the "heads" or registration staff as AUSA (due to understaffing/doublebooking issues...) and can tell you why they asked for the room numbers. What we were looking for was to estimate they size of room block we would require to try and avoid having to use an overflow hotel. We were trying to get an idea of who was in the Sheraton, and who had to go to another hotel when rooms were sold out. Also, how many locals/commuters there were...

Hopefully the hotel will not be double booked next year.

And FYI, for whomever was asking, the "Beat the Bard" panel was not cancelled, it was just moved to a different room. My friend Drew ran that panel, and even HE was surprised when he showed up at the panel room, and they had moved it. I'm sure more people would have showed up if the rooms hadn't been switched... it was still fun though. :bigtu:

I didn't think they were that comfortable. I hated the "comfortor". That material it's made out of is so coarse.

I always bring my own sheets and pillow when I stay... well, anywhere, really. I like my flannel sheets, and I like plopping my head down on a pillow and not having it sink all the way through to the mattress, then bouncing back, catapulting me into the air, doing a full sideways flip in the air (it could happen).

I think AUSA is probably the best convention out there.

Also i've been reading hotel problems, I've stayed at Sheraton's around the country and havent had a problem to date, I guess its a hit or miss, Same as hotels for Otakon, they have a horror story hotel tread, I've stayed at the very same hotels some of the people had horror stories about, but never had a problem myself. I guess it really depends on which hotel staffer you run into, not a particular hotel brand.

But anyways, hope future stays will be pleasant for everyone. And looking forward to AUSA 7, hey its 7 already, can you believe it?
