This one I suppose could go in both the Video Games and Anime costume threads, but since I'm focusing more on the game designs for the characters, I decided to post it here. Back before Leaf Green and Fire Red came out, if you preordered one of them, you'd get a special pocket guide for the game. Looking through the guide, I really loved the new character designs. I've always wanted to cosplay Brock, and after seeing his LG/FR costume, I knew I'd just have to do that someday. So, anyone else out there planning a Pokemon cosplay sometime in the future? Or have already cosplayed a Pokemon or Pokemon character?

I'm not a Poke'mon fan anymore though I still like playing the original game boy games sometimes.(Did you know the Blue version was the Green version in Japan? Venesaur was on the cover.) Anyway, despite the fact I don't like the actual thing anymore (except the occaisional GB) , I do wanna do one and only one Pocket Monsters cosplay: Kasumi(Misty) just for fun. Then I'll never do another one ever again.

Awww, now where's the fun in that? And yes, I did know that Green and Red came first. Blue was an update with new art for the characters and pokemon and a few new features, I think. Our Red and Blue were based on the Japanese Blue version, with the new art and stuff.

I was going to be "May" but actually just the generic female trainer in ruby/sapphire so i could carry around plushies of my team at Animagic, but I refused to do it without the right shoes which I had found but were out of stock at the place... so it's been on hold ever since =(

I have tons of plushies I could use, but only one of them is a pokemon that Brock actually has. XD

I've been planning a Meowth-girl costume design since 2001. I suck. Hopefully I'll finally do it next year. Dammit. I want a big Meowth plushie to carry around. Or maybe a Wobbuffet, because I'll be Rocket-style Meowth. Do they sell Wobbuffet plushies? o_o; I want a Wobbuffet. ;.;

I kinda wanna be that new female trainer from FR/LG. She has my hair. XD; But I have other stuff I could do. There's a trainer design (not the player characters) from Silver/Gold I kinda wanna do, but I'd wanna have four girls with me doing the matching ones like in the game... Doubt I'll ever do that. @_@;; Bleh. I'll stick with Meowth. I've also always wanted to be Musashi/Jessie, but not til I could have the hair somehow absolutely perfect. :o

It's just me, on the costume, because I want to know if suspeders feel like overall straps. :toothy: Also, I heard the unedited version of the TV show had some naughty stuff for American airwaves like an old guy pointing a gun @ Satoshi(Ash) and later uses it at Team Rocket :crylaugh: and I even saw a picture of it in a magazine and it looked like it was photographed from the show in a bootleg. Just thought I add that to pass off my time.

I really like the new designs too, and I've been playing LeafGreen far too much lately :) I'm planning to do some Team Rocket cosplay (girl) early next year:

I dunno about the gun thing, but it is true the unedited version does have some more adult things to it. There was an episode (which I have in Japanese on VHS ^^) where Kojirou/James wore a full bodysuit and a bikini.. and the bodysuit had a button where the fake boobs grew bigger. He was showing it off to Kasumi/Misty and bragging about it. ^^; It was eventually aired in America, but I think the entire swimsuit contest all this happened in was cut out. @_@; I never saw it in English, though, s'just what I heard. o.o

Miya~Kome

the swimsuit contest was still shown, they just cut out the whole jessie and james part of the contest. if you didn't know about them being in it previously, you wouldn't have known it was ever there to begin with (those bastards lol)

and yes, there was an episode that had guns in it that didn't even air over here. there was this guy who pointed a gun at ash and then later jessie and james had guns pointed to that guy because they wanted his dratini or something... i forget where this took place cuz it's been so long since i've been obsessed with pokemon lol.

and about the cosplay thing? i'm working on jessie right now. woo.

The gun episode was when they were in the Safari Zone. And the American version of the swimsuit episode made on mistake when they edited it. Whenever a contestant came out, they had to have a pokemon or two with them that were dressed up. Squirtle and Starmie were dressed as an alien spacecraft with Misty. Well, they showed Ekans and Koffing (of Team Rocket) and even announced them, but they never showed Jesse or James.

Heard all about that one and I even saw a picture from that episode with Kojirou and his bikini with the fake boobs feature! LMAO! Was it just me or did I see lipstick applied? Oh, and my brother and I kinda downloaded part of that episode that caused those kids to get seizures... it had Porygon in it and it got a world record for all the kids being hospitalized. Now someone claims about 50% of the kids hospitalized actually had elipsy. Weird....

here's a pretty interesting website...

http://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~psypoke/anime/censor.php

it tells you stuff on the deleted episodes as well as other stupid things they did to try to censor it for us. damn you 4-kids entertainment lol

gaaaah i wish i could find japanese pocket monsters dvds...

Dang.... I know we were ripped off, but I didn't know that much happened. Anymore of those websites?

Michi
11-22-2004, 05:28 PM
Too bad that page doesn't know their Japanese. x_X "Mushi" means "bug" and "ushi" means "cow", not the other way around. ^^; I think I might e-mail them about that.

Heh, I got my Japanese pokemon episodes from a video store in Japantown in San Francisco. They have the entire series on VHS, and I used to randomly pick out volumes to see, and most of the movies before they came out here. It just so happened that the boobie-Kojirou episode was one of episodes I got. Haha, they even show the screenshot on that page of the exact scene I described. XD How funny.

But um... This thread is supposed to be about cosplay. ^^; Maybe we should move the anime discussion elsewhere. =/

I once cosplayed as Blaziken... I look back and think it's stupid and hideous, but now that I think about my skills back then, I realize it was pretty good! Lemmie see if I can find a picture of it...
Alas... It has been lost... :( I threw the costume away, too. I used a pair of red pants from Wal-mart with yellow felt for the pants, a brown shirt for the arms, made a vest out of felt, the headdress out of felt, too, and made a mask using plaster of paris, gause, duct tape, wire, foil, and red paint.

I was a female Team Rocket member (old school Red/Blue version) last Halloween, an idea that actually came from a friend of mine who was dressing up as the male counterpart. It actually worked strangely well. I found a black newsboy-like hat and a pair of silky elbow-length black gloves that didn't look odd with the costume at all. Then I used a tight, short-sleeved black shirt with a slight midrift. The beauty of that was that I originally bought that shirt for a dance class from a dance warehouse for $1 (^_______^). I bought some (shiny but cute) red material for $3, and cut out about 3 red "R"s before I got one I liked enough to sew on the shirt. Then I borrowed a short leather skirt from a friend, took a pokeball toy I got years ago (anyone remember those ones you got from Burger King?), and used some black boots that I had (even if they weren't completely accurate...)

Dispite what I thought would be a big difference in the look of the different materials, it actually flowed together quite well and looked good. I'm thinking of buying the skirt from my friend, and I might wear the shirt without the costume every now and then, just for fun. ^-^

Eventually, I want to cosplay Eevee (whee, Eevee-anthro... girl... thing). I have medium-dark skin and a head of bushy dark brown hair, so it seemed like a good pic (especially since Eevee is my second favorite pokemon, next to Vaporeon). I was thinking of creating the ears on a headband, then either making the big tan faux fur collar attached to a fully body suit, or making it big enough to, erm, cover me like a shirt... ^-^' I'll probably be crazy enough to do the second idea, then take some gloves, shorts, and boots, and cover them in dark brown faux fur. (Probably like furry slip-covers for the boots, because those can be expensive x_x').

Wow, I went on for way to long... probably a sign of my newbieness. Hi. ^-^'

Your hair looks long enough to do it with just a really good strong hold gel. I'd start asking Jrock cosplayers what they use. XD For things like Zell from FF8, I used Elmer's glue.. the blue gel kind.. it washes out in warm water just fine.

A cosplayer I think lives in Atlanta (look for her link in Marika's Cosplay; Marika's pretty cool) and she's done both a Pikachu and Marill- girl cosplay. She also claims to have seen a Poliwag-girl costume before. This experience has inspired me to do.... I'll type to ya guys later, it's a surprise!!!! :)

Well, for the record (note the member name and signature), I've cosplayed as James at some events involving Pokemon (TCG and Pokemon Center New York) since October 2000. A few kids even had me mixed up with Jessie! That's somewhat embarrassing. But that's not bad for a nearly 300-pound guy who's almost 44 years old!

Twice.

Last Halloween, I went to a party as a Team Magma Grunt, my friend Matt went as a Team Aqua Grunt and my other friend Jamie as a Team Rocket Grunt. Unfortunately, none of the pictures turned out... :(

I've also got a suit, that doubles as a Giovanni suit, along with a cool Master Ball and an Eevee plush and a home made Earth Badge.

I've gotta get some photos of the Giovanni suit, and see if I can find my Team Magma garb...

I don't know why, but… as I'm finishing up another cosplay, I wanted to try something different and do a video game cosplay. I've never video game cosplayed before, and when the idea came to mind, Pokémon was the first choice. I think I'm going to be Crystal from Pokémon Crystal, because she was my favorite. And, one day for sure I will have to do Team Rocket, because they were my favorite Pokémon characters ever.

It's great to see so many people who still love Pokémon and even cosplay from it. I loved the first season best, but I like the costumes for the new season <3

After six years, I'm retiring my Team Rocket uniform. For the longest time, it was my only cosplay and I've even won a few awards with it, but I'm moving on to more elaborate costumes. I haven't even watched the show in years, and wearing it isn't as much fun anymore. I'll probably be wearing my Raichu again though, but there are some issues I need to fix with it (and some details I didn't get finished when I wore it last year for A-Kon).

i want to see if one day i can pull off a Gardevoir, however i have no sewing capabilities. I'm a die hard pokemon Fan, i feel ashamed i haven't barked up any courage to do a Pkmn cosplay. However two of my friends are going to be team Aqua and Team Magma grunts.

*ding* thread has been resurected!

my sister wanted me to do a pokemon trainer cosplay with her so i decided to do this guy trainer, but i have a question about the hair. Is it white with little black under the headband or is that some kinda hat?

Blackjack Gabbi
02-04-2007, 02:13 AM
In one of the mangas, it's said to be a hat (and his real hair makes him look exactly like his father, Norman). But I'm not sure if the same holds true for other continuities.

One of the entries on my "cosplay idea" list is something I like to call "Agent Angelita Ampharos." It's more or less a blonde human with Ampharos' forehead-jewel-thingy (heh heh, nice description), neck-markings and tail. I'd wear a black suit and dark glasses, and maybe carry a walkie-talkie.:toothy:

In other news, my brother is going as a random Rocket grunt to MomoCon this year, and after buying an Absol plushie, I've decided I'm gonna keep him company.

I plan on doing Blaziken for AnimeCentral, should be cosplaying it alongside my friend who did Lucario there last year.

Of course, I'm only just now starting, and it's my first full-body/creature costume, so who knows if I'll actually get it done on time.

*points to avatar* Indeed!

I just finished my Galactic Commander Mars cosplay with a Jupiter doll a few weeks ago!

I cosplayed pretty much all the female admins except for that one Team Rocket admin named Storc who is way too old for me. I'll wait till I'm 50 for her.

But yeah, I'm also planning on Cynthia. She is the first female champion yay!

Pokemon is definitely one of my favorite games the manga is awesome too!

Yeah, I'm definitely going to join you as Mars and Jupiter (my doll is Jupiter) at Youmacon.

But is anybody thinking about cosplaying anyone from Team Galactic?

I feel like I'm the first and I'm willing to definitely write a general tutorial covering the grunts, the three commanders Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, and the leader Cyrus.

I just have a funny feel that since I've seen a lot of Team Magma and Aqua cosplays, we are bound to see some Galactic too. It may look a bit difficult but it isn't quite hard.

Heres my report on the Pokemon Release of Diamond and Pearl event at ToysR'Us in Tampa I was promoting..

The Pokemon Diamond and Pearl event was one of the best Pokemon Events I have done...(and I have done ALOT though the years)...We got there 2 hours early even before the store opened at 11 am, Our event wasnt till noon till 3 but we wanted to get everything in place and in order before then..We were amazed that there was already a line outside Toys'Rus as we pulled up at 10:30 Am in the infamous Pikachu Bug...I'd say about 15 kids with there families for today's event that early and eager to get in, As we pulled up everyone was amazed...We parked PikaBug right by the exit doors of Toys'R'us so as the customers left they got a last glimpse of the car..Barry who was the manager and event cordinator of the event even had a tent to put over my PikaBug and was really nice,For doing this event I got both copies of Diamond and Pearl, Discounts on toys, free meal coupons, stickers, posters and after there done with there Pokemon displays when the game has been out awile I will get all those as well...

But we got everything in place and then Barry took us to a hidden room where we waited till noon for our big entrance..and man what an entrance as Pikachu and I came out from the back of the sotre to the front as my Pokemon CD was blasting in the store, we turn the corner and OMG the line of kids waiting to get pour pics, ask us questions and our autographs was insanity but we LOVED every minute of it...We saw our photographer friend Maboroshi from Rising Sun.Net was there right when the event started and he took a bunch of shots of everything during the entire event,..The event was just awesome and I want to relive it, at about 2pm we also had a visit from my friend Jamie who is my May at all these events with me and she was loved as well by everyone..After the event we went to the mall across the way and took pics there too, funny thing is, is that it was the same mall I did the Pokemon 10th Anniversary tour last year for...so that brought back some memories of that...and then after that we ate and then went to a park by May's house and took really cool shots there on the nature trails and stuff with Mab...I'm hoping he gets all the pics up soon cause I can't wait to share all the fun we had...But right now I'm extremely exhausted and want to start playing my Pearl copy of Pokemon, I gave Diamond to my boyfriend cause well Pearl is my birthstone so I had to keep that one....I cant wait to do future events with ToysR'us and we are already booked to help them with a Star Wars event, I also do Princess Leia and my boyfrined does Han Solo so that event will be May 12th...

But here is a link to the Release of Diamonand Pearl I did..

Yeah, I came into the store with my Mars costume on to get my Pokemon Pearl. Now I present to you:

Tips and Tricks on Team Galactic

General:

Okay, so you want to cosplay someone from Team Galactic. Here I'll be covering all six costumes the male and female versions of grunts, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Cyrus. They may seen quite elaborate compared to the predecessors but it is actually quite easy. You just have to know how to do it. Here are the general things about their uniforms:

* A critical technique in sewing that you have to learn when you are making these costumes is dividing panels. What you do is in pencil on the patterns, draw out places that will be a different color of the main pattern, for instance, Jupiter's jumpsuit is white up to the upper chest just above her bust and turns to black and dips over up to her lower back. Its kind of hard to explain but take a look at their outfits and you'll see what I mean.

The Emblem: Unlike Team Rocket, Magma and Aqua, the placment of the "G" differs. Here is where it is placed on each member:

Jupiter and the grunts: They all have it on their chest kind of obvious

Mars: If you look at the Sugimori art you'll see that she has it on her back

Akagi and Saturn: They have it on their vests sort of like a pin in a way.

Making the Emblem:

This is probably the most difficult emblem to make but that is out of the ones so far but that doesn't mean it is frustrating. Overall, its relatively easy.

* With felt, cut out the G shape (it has those little "wisps" remember) If you look carefully, Part of the G overlaps if you leave it be, it will look like a deformed 6 that is why I suggest using black puffy paint to draw the overlapping parts, I would also suggest boldening it with the black on the edges since it appears that they have that effect on their emblems.

The Hair:
This is another part that is important, if you notice the gravity defying effects it looks intimidating. I guess with Saturn's cat ear hair it seems impossible. I'm going to do my best:

Cyrus: Cyrus has grey, spikey hair. If you are lucky you can find naturally spiked gray wigs. I guess if you can't, just do it like you would spike a Naruto wig. It basically has the same style.

Grunts: Unlike other grunts, you can really go generic and use your own hair. For some crazy reason, they all have ice blue hair (What was Cyrus thinking if he forced them to go that far) So I guess a chin length ice blue wig ougtta do it.

Mars: Mars is also simple, just use a red chin length wig like mine and you are pretty much set. If you want to go elaborate with the cowlick, I guess got2bglued hair cement. Be careful with the hair gels because some of them don't work with wig fibers.

Jupiter: This is a little tricky but I'll do my best. Even though I used yarn for my Jupiter wig because it is easier to work with, I've heard of this technique known as stubbing which can give it more effect. Notice that the shape of her bun is more oval than her bottom one which is round. You can put a bun on the bottom then somehow work with the top part to make it oval. I'm not sure though.

Saturn: How does he keep it like that?! Since he won't tell you, to my common knowledge, I would use a paper cone form to sort of shape the long, blue wig and mold around it and manage to let it stick. I don't exactly know how but use some brain power and don't get two frustrated with the cat ear hair which I like calling it.

I'll continue more of my tutorial tommorow I need some rest.

Tabby Catty
04-25-2007, 10:37 AM
I'm going to add a small part about shoes to the tutorial I'll add more later in the day:

Team Galactic Costume Tips

Shoes

A majority of the members have white go-go boots except for Saturn and Cyrus.

For Saturn and Cyrus, I suggest a grey or white ankle length shoe. The heels should be slightly smaller the rest of the members. As a reminder, the pants should be over the shoes another unique thing about their shoes.

Coming up next I'll tell you the low down about fabric choices.

I'd love to try and cosplay as either Brock or Ash. Or maybe Lt. Surge, if anyone remembers him.

Blackjack Gabbi
04-27-2007, 01:49 AM
A Surge cosplay would be awesome. Recognizable without being overdone, and has potential to glomp people (anime version, anyway).

Tabby Catty
04-27-2007, 10:40 AM
Yeah, I would think so too! We definitely need a Venus cosplay her dress is so pretty!! So is Fantina's.

I'm definitely going to do Venus when I want an elaborate ball dress. Though her moon on her back looks a little heavy. I also think when I do Cynthia, I'm also going to have another of my American Girl doll dressed as Candice.

TR Rose
04-27-2007, 01:40 PM
Actually... Lt. Surge isn't very recognizable, at least in my experience. My husband did a Surge cos for A-Kon 2 years ago, and only 1 person knew who he was. And he had the Pokeballs on his belt and a plush Raichu (as well as me dressed as a Raichu). Maybe there are places where Pokemon is bigger that the costume might work better, but just saying. :)

Tabby Catty
04-27-2007, 02:15 PM
Yeah, a few people called me Magma admin girl and when I was Shelly they called my Shelby XP It was close I guess but then again, Shelly appeared in the manga more.

The villians are usually more recognizable especially if they appeared in the anime as well as the games and manga (a few knew Kagari though) When I was Mars, some thought I was Jane Jetson!

I guess the gym leaders and elite four members and frontier brains with more elaborate clothes and hair styles that would probably be:

Wallace
Juan
Fantina
Gardenia
Crasher Wake
Cynthia
Aaron
Will
Lance
Koga
Janine
Maylene
Jasmine
Lucy
Greta
Tucker
Anabel
Winona
Claire

I guess that is a decent list of the gym leaders that would be considered elaborate. A lot of times they are just normal looking clothes or clothes that look like average costumes (like Roark could be a generic miner and Roxanne and Candice have school girl uniforms on Brandon and Bugsy could just be explorers.) That is the one thing about pokemon you have to look out of as well as with other animes.
Even if your character is obscure, you can definitely make up for it with the costume details.

I'm so happy right now! From looking through the attic I found the perfect Cyrus wig! I styled it and it definitely adds another possibility. But I'm not fond of crossplaying my mom isn't either so I don't know. Maybe I can sweet talk my dad to do a skit with him as Cyrus, me as Mars, and my doll as Jupiter.

Hey, does anyone have any tips for doing Anabel's hair? XD; My friend is being her at the ConnectiCon this year. My friends and I are doing a mini-Pokémon group (Ash (me), Misty (my younger sister), May (one of my friends), Dawn (my best friend), and Anabel (my other best friend)). (Actually, we're doing it for a skit I made up. XD; It's pretty cute.)

And does anyone have any tips at making those...weird...corn-like...things in Dawn's hair with out making them look dumb? Or am I leaving that up to my younger sister?

Tabby Catty
05-02-2007, 10:54 AM
Anabel's hair? I would recommend Got2bglued. It is the best things for spikes and cowlicks which Anabel has indeed. An ear length or a chin length purple wig would work. Just do your best, I was never shunned when I didn't get Mars' cowlick (got2bglued is hard to find but ebay is your best bet). Anime physics are a lot different than the real world I say.

How Saturn got his hair up like cat ears? The world may never know.

But daddy is still not convinced that he wants to be Cyrus.

Oshi

I just really hope my friend will wear a wig. x_x;;

Tabby Catty
05-02-2007, 05:45 PM
Well, you sort of have to with Anabel. Sure, you can use colored spray but it won't make it as light purple as Anabel's hair.

I hate to say that but its true. I love the fact that there is an Anabel cosplayer! I want more Team Galactic though!

trainer_kelly
05-02-2007, 06:05 PM
XD Then my friend has absolutely no choice then. =P

I will defintaly take pictures of her cosplay then. XD I don't think there are any Battle Frontier cosplayers out there...but I'm not sure.

More Galactic would be awesome. =O

Tabby Catty
05-02-2007, 06:16 PM

trainer_kelly
05-02-2007, 07:19 PM
That would've been awesome, but being Mars is just as awesome. X3

What kind of fabric do you think Anabel's outfit should be made out of...?

Tabby Catty
05-03-2007, 10:39 AM
Yeah, I guess so, I'm more of a Pokemon villian cosplayer. The only exception is going to be Cynthia.

I don't know, I guess just look at her outfit and paw at the fabric and feel it. You'll be certain it feels like Anabel's if you do that. I'm not the fabric name expert so sorry about that just go to the fabric store and feel around. That is what I do.

But Satin is Satan! Crushed velvet is a no-no too.

Bumping the thread for people who don't already know, Cosplaylab.com is holding a Pokemon cosplay contest. Registration ends on May 24, so get cracking!

As for me, I'm waiting for my DP Rival wig to come in. Until that does, I probably won't be working on the top any time soon. :P

Since I already beat the game, I really want to do another costume from the game, but I can't pick! So many of the characters look so cool.

Just got done entering my Jessie costume in the contest, haha

Tabby Catty
05-14-2007, 02:27 PM

My Satoshi Diamond & Pearl top is like...25% (?) done. It's sewn and cut down the middle. I just need to find that zipper I lost, sew the zipper on, attach the collar, and attach the bottom rim thing...and then I'll be done with the top.

Would anyone be capable of commissioning a Tracey wig and a Misty wig for me?

I'll be willing to pay any /reasonable/ price. Meaning... not more than 65 dollars per a wig, please. Even that seems a little much for such a simple design...

Thanks to anyone who would be willing!

Tabby Catty
05-15-2007, 11:06 AM
Well, I'm not really up for it but what I did was I got rid of the transparent skirt probelm with Mars and the strangling ribbons cutting off my circulations. My costume looks a bit better now except there is this one little stain on my dress and I need some more tide to go. Its hardly noticeable now but you can still see it if you squint.

Oh well, that is what photo shop is for!

05-15-2007, 01:21 PM
I'll be finishing Dawn (Hikari) pretty soon for the CosplayLab contest from Pokemon Pearl. I wanted to cosplay her anyway and it gave me the push I needed. I'm doing the Anime version, btw. Hard to believe Pokemon has been around for 10 years now stateside.

And I'll have a plush Piplup made if time permits and he turns out well enough.

Tabby Catty
05-15-2007, 02:10 PM
Well, the anime version and the game version's only difference is the length of the scarf it seems

Yeah, a piplup plushie would be cool.

Aleera
05-15-2007, 03:13 PM
Well Dawn has brown hair in the scan and cover for Diamond/Pearl, but everything else looks the same. Except maybe the scarf length as you mentioned.

I've modified a penguin pattern for Piplup and hoping when I go to cut and sew it, all turns out well.

trainer_kelly
05-15-2007, 03:19 PM
Good luck on your outfit and Piplup, Aleera! ^^

Psssst.... do Cyrus!!

Yeah, I got to register!

Haha, just give me a few years time and probably I'd look the role. But as of now, I'd probably be a better Saturn or something. xD

Man, when the trainer character designs first came out, I really wanted to make the female trainer's outfit so badly, but somehow that kinda got forgotten. :P Glad to see more people doing Pokemon costumes finally! I mean, after being into the fandom for so long, I guess I never got around to it either.

Gotta finish Rival for the contest... if only I didn't cut out the wrong pattern on accident. ><

"Would anyone be capable of commissioning a Tracey wig and a Misty wig for me?"

Have you ever thought about simply visiting Cosworx and buying two wigs of the same style, but in different colors (black and orange), and then simply getting a ponytail holder then gather some of the hair on the left-hand side of the orange wig? Then, getting the black wig with a green headband.

Tabby Catty
05-16-2007, 07:34 AM

My friends also cosplaying her. I have to help her, since my friend has never sewn clothes before. We're halfway done with skirt. She messed up on it a bit, but she was like "Oh well. I'm the one wearing it." =3;; I think that my friend kind of looks like Hikari, but that's just me...>_>;;

If I ever got around to making Dawn's outfit for myself, I probably would. >_> Except I'd have long sleeves for the shirt.

Mars's outfit is cool because it has some sort of gravity defying-ness to it. And awesome colours. >_> But that's just me.

Yeah, Lucain is pretty hot

Mars also has a bit of gravity defiance in her skirt. I actually used glow sticks and cheese cloth to make it like that for my dress.

I also like Fantina. Fantina seems to me like Tucker's sister, I mean she is in contests a lot and is always on stage like Tucker, she bears a resemblence to him too.

I dig her dress though, it would be awesome to wear it to a prom or somethin

Man, Rival wig hasn't come in yet...I guess I'm throwing in the towel in terms of the Cosplaylab contest. Oh well! xD

I've really been throwing around the idea of making Volkner's outfit (and hey, I can use the wig for a Yondaime costume too!). Perhaps summer will bring inspiration!

I must agree. XD I also think he's really pretty. <3

o.o You used glowsticks to make the skirt defy gravity? Wouldn't that weight it down...?

My younger sister thought the same thing! O_o She actually had to ask me if Fantina was a girl or a guy. o_o;;

Actually, they are pretty light weight. What I did was connected a few dead ones together and duct taped them for some extra support. I used them because they were flexible.

But yeah, I really like Fantina its just I have no idea how I would do the hair though! Her hairstyle is like four buns positioned like Temari's ponytails!

But for now I think I'll need to finish Flower-chan and for the sake of my flute teacher focus on CS2 Tayuya and maybe do Fantina's for Chalice (I go to a Christian school and we have a little graduation dinner for the seniors instead of a dance) so I think I'll make her's costume all pretty.

I think Cynthia and Candice seem like a go too.

Well, Personally I'm glad she's sleeveless since I live + cosplay in South Florida (and other parts of Florida for that matter). Dawn actually is the first time I've had to buy bias tape for a pattern.

I agree completely with the second statement too.

Aw, man! This thread was hidden in the video games section where I didn't see it 'til now!

My first cosplay was a pretty bad one of Pikachu, and next year I might go for another Pokémon costume if I can't think of anything else. I'd love to do Buizel because he's my favorite of the D/P Pokémon, but we'll see. Eevee and Umbreon are also tempting.

I've had a lot of fun reading this thread. It's great to see how many people are still into Pokémon and enjoy cosplaying it. :D Pokémon rocks!

It sure does! I know, Mars with her black spandex and stuff on is going to be pretty hard at Jafax. But the things you do when it comes to cosplay, if I wanted to wear Mars and I have enough willpower, I could witstand anything basically.

Talk to the girl who walked door to door to sell cookies with an infected foot limping just to get my troop enough money! Talk to the girl who has gone trick or treating from her not yet broke-in go-go boots. That is me.

I had this cheap-o dark blue wig I'm never gonna use and decided to experiment, to see if I could make it look like Anabel's hair. When I cut it, I cut it like...totally uneven in the back and I'm like "Ugh, I messed up...oh no...it's not gonna be long enough!" but I continued to style it anyway. I'm glad I did. I used sewing pins that I don't really need, Got2B Glued Freeze Spray and some of the Hair Glue, and ribbon to style it. Ribbon was to keep certain parts of the hair from moving out of place (such as that giant...cowlick (?) on top of her head and the back of her hair) and the pins where to keep places such as bangs and the ribbon from moving. And I must say. =3 I am pretty proud of myself. XDD I honestly think it looks a lot like Anabel's hair and I can style the light purple wig once I buy it with confidence. It's also my first time styling a wig. 8D YAY!

Edit: x_x; A lot of people who read the paragraph don't seem to realize that I wrote that I am going to get a light purple wig. x_x;; The con isn't until the second (?) week of July. I already offended one of my friends, because she interrupted my reply wrong. ._.; And two more people said it should've been lighter.

Edit 2: My best friend and I worked on her Hikari skirt a bit today! 8D YAY! We also tried to spray her hair with this blue hair stuff that I have. It's not the bad temporary party stuff. =3 It doesn't fly off. XDD Her hair is long enough to be Hikari, so...she's not gonna wear a wig. 8D Nor does she want to...

I was Riley at last year's Anime North. It was interesting, to say the least. Hardest part was the hat; finding everything was actually pretty easy. Dress shoes, dress pants, turtleneck with his yellow-ish embroidery, and a "suit" of sorts (like the one he has) were what I used for the main part of it.

Hat... Forgot which kind I modified, but once I had it, I added foam sections to it for the front and back parts (though, for the back, it's more like they're "feathers", almost... didn't realize that till after the con). covered that in blue fabric and used a ribbon to keep the fabric in place and for the black ribbon on his hat.

So... yeah.

Optional, you can use a wig if you really want to go all out. I didn't.

Which one do you think I should go with?

@wasteofcarb0n; I myself would love to see the game/manga version. But that would lead to the question of either the game version (dark blue pants) or the manga version (black pants) Haha, so really..it's up to you. Hahaha~ Still, saying I'd like to see the game/manga version lol

I think the anime version would be more logical in that situation, seeing as you actually know what color the pants are. I don't think it would matter which version you did in the long run; both would be fine in my book.

Perhaps you could get a short red wig, and then use an attachment like the one linked below for the spiky back part:

I really need to get on the forums here more often Dx

I've recently gotten into Pokemon more than before (thanks a lot, HG/SS =D) and love seeing Pokemon cosplay! Especially trainers, since they're rarer now that Gijinkas have become popular~

I've been planning a Meowth-girl costume design since 2001. I suck. Hopefully I'll finally do it next year. Dammit. I want a big Meowth plushie to carry around. Or maybe a Wobbuffet, because I'll be Rocket-style Meowth. Do they sell Wobbuffet plushies? o_o; I want a Wobbuffet. ;.;

I saw wobbuffets of decent size on ebay a ways back, dunno if they're there anymore though. But, when I think about it, he wouldn't be a difficult plush to make.

well im wanting to do the male hero from Soul Silver and I have no clue where to start. So i was thinking starting with the hat where or how can i get one that looks close to it??

Well, I had a similar problem in consturcting that hat. I now have a solution. here are a few options.
1.get a black hat and use fabric paint for the yellow stripe.
2. get a black hat and sew a piece of foam or fabric on to make the stripe.
3.get a yellow hat, and use masking tape to make the stripe and airbrush the unmasked areas black.
4. get a black and yellow hat and destroy them both to make a new Frankenstein hat.
5. make it from scratch.

I have searched the internet twice over and checked with local businesses. There is now way on earth to get that hat fabricated unless you get them in bulk(which would be very costly.) The methods above are your best bet. Good luck!:bigtu:

The best source for reference is probably the manga itself, since I don't think there are Pokemon Special artbooks (though that'd be pretty awesome)

Is there a rule against posting links to manga scanlations? There's a site or two out there that has scans of the manga. Leaf/Green is featured more in Chapters 15-17, 30, and 32.

Bunny Dragoon: Thank you! I actually hadn't seen any manga pics of her before *_*. I really appreciate the link.

Char350: Excellent Lucas costumes!!! You look good in the beret (not many guys could pull that off ^_-). I don't know if there is a copyright law against posting manga scans.....although I would guess people could get into trouble for scanning-in entire books (like with comics here in the U.S.).

I'd still love more reference if anyone else knows where to find pics!

Sent you a link to the manga. There should be more than enough pictures of her =)

I want to cosplay as the Female Trainer from HG/SS, but I need some help with the hat. Also, I'm thinking about doing a gijinka....maybe Umbreon or Eevee. I was wondering if anyone knew where to buy/how to make a pokeball.

Seeing everyones ideas is awesome...my sister and i decided that we were going to cosplay girl Pokemon trainers at the next convention. :) My sis is going to be Lyra (the girl from HG/SS) and I'm going to be the new girl from Black and White.

I'm still trying to figure everything out...tomorrow i'm going to go look around for some crafts. I think I should probably paint the little pokeball symbol on her hat but i could always use sticky felt...

Any other suggestions?

Get some masking tape, a plain white hat, and an airbrush. Use the tape to cover the white areas and pink for the designs. Airbrushing is not that expensive and looks professional.

Lyra is adorable (her outfit reminds me of Mario ^_-), and the new B&W female trainer has a 'tough but cute' vibe. Please let us know when you have pics!

Cerelein: I got my pokeballs on eBay since I can't seem to find any in stores nowadays. I imagine that it wouldn't be too hard to make a pokeball prop (I thought about doing that myself, but opted to take the easy way out and just buy mine). If I were to make one I'd probably start with a white ball, paint half of it red, then glue-on pieces of craft foam to create the black seam and white button. Perhaps someone who has actually made one knows a better way though ^_^.

Ness and Lucas: I'd probably use fabric paint too....though the airbrushing idea does sound cool!

Okay thanks for the suggestions! We'll have the outfits done by the end of July so I'll try to get pictures up within a month. :)

Im looking at making the team rocket grunt outfits for me and my boyfriend, but i cant figure out because the girl looks like shes wearing shorts in the game but a skirt in the artwork. Help?

~H~
06-30-2010, 10:39 PM
kryrussell14: My vote would be for the skirt ^_^. The way I figure it, game sprites are usually based on the character design artwork. Though you could probably get away with doing either.

*GAH* I haven't thought about doing a Team Rocket cosplay since Butch and Cassidy came on the scene over a decade ago......but seeing this artwork (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091212142729/pokemon/images/1/1c/250px-Team_Rocket_Grunt_HGSS.png) has got my mind spinning with visions of a Team Rocket costume @_@.

TOO MANY IDEAS!!! >_< I must learn to control my cosplay ADD.

I know i blame my boyfriend. He keeps telling me i should make different cosplays and now im having a hard time finishing one before i start another. Im definitely doing those grunts though.

I've done a Rocket Grunt costume for like... 3 years in a row. It's always been a success. It's best when I get my friends (who also have the costumes) and we form a real army of Rocket Grunts :3

kryrussell14: Ah, at least I'm not the only one ^_-. Will your BF be cosplaying with you?

nicolesheree123: Very cool! I'd love to see pics if/when you have an opportunity to upload some.....especially of the Rocket Grunt Army @_@.

~H~: Yes he will be. We cosplayed together at Sakura-con as Ichigo and Rukia from Bleach. We have decided that my 10 year old sister might be coming with us since shes getting anime obsessed, and we have this idea of making her meowth, but that may be a little too ridiculous.

kryrussell14: You're so lucky to have a guy who will dress-up with you! I bet your sister would make an adorable Meowth ^_-.

YukinaKipling: Very cool! Perhaps this thread might be more along the lines of what you're looking for: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=142293&page=181

Niebakura: Nice! Good luck with the hair for both those guys @_@.

kryrussell14: looks like skirt instead of shorts to me. Dressing your little sister up as Meowth would be a pretty fun idea actually.

I went to Anime Expo 2010 this past weekend and there were quite a lot of Pokemon cosplayers. I didn't attend the Pokemon gathering but I still got a lot of Pokemon pictures. These mostly have me in them since it's from my Friends/Self folder. I'll work on uploading other general convention pictures later so look:

Pokemon has slowly been taking over my cosplays, with no signs of it stopping XP
My very first cosplay ever was an Eevee Gijinka. And then I've done a lot of the female trainers (Blue/Leaf, May/Sapphire, Black White trainer) and Dawn should be done by Halloween (which I'll probably do some altercations to so I can have Platina as well). I'm also planning on doing Shaymin's Sky Form, but I haven't decided exactly what I wanna do for that yet.
So as I said-taking over.

I just realized that a wig I have (display pic) would be PERFECT for Lovrina from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. I use XD as an emoticon so much, that I have trouble seeing it as anything else than a laughing face...XD

But yeah, and except for the dress and the goggles, I already have everything I need to pull it off. :O Maybe I could find one of those cute little white tennis dresses with collars, and I'm sure I'll have no trouble finding white goggles. ^^

If I wear it to a con, I've been thinking of playing this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN0rEgnaa4U) everywhere I go, and walk to the music like Lovrina does. XP

I'm planning to cosplay May (Ruby/Sapphire) and Kris (Crystal) this year. Kris hardly gets any cosplay love, and she's one of my favorite trainers! :)
