View Full Version : Lolita Tea Party?

Amy the Yu

I know that cosplay gatherings are popping up all over right now, but I still want to ask if anyone's interested in doing a Lolita tea party sometime (for sweet and gothic lolita costumes and other Japanese fashions of the sort).

They seem really popular in NY and some other areas and it seems to be the only kind of cosplay gathering I haven't heard of around the GTA.

I'm not setting a date or anything, but I just wanted to toss the idea a round a bit and see if anyone else is interested.

The concept it great! Though is it like a REALLY tea party or is that just a theme name? ^^; lol Just curious.

I think since so many cosplayers tend to live off of Tim Horton's during CN, we could do snacks and stuff.

A potluck's too much trouble as not everyone cooks (ie. me, although I can bake cookies), and not everyone likes tea.

I don't really know where this would be possible though, unless we wait until spring and then we can do an outdoors one...

Wear your Kagura dress. It's close enough...

I'm probably going to make a sweet lolita costume if we go through with it. I've seen too many EGLs and not all that many sweet lolitas, so I kinda want to even out the score a bit. XD (What a lousy reason for wanting to make the outfit.)

Sounds like a good idea...gives me an excuse to make a new costume ^_^ would EGA be welcome also?...if not I'll make an EGL

Lolita tea party! XD

I have a lot of friends who are really into the EGL idea~ XD

As long as it's on a warm, sunny day, I'm good with it. ^_^

I always wanted to go to something like that since it sounded so interesting, however, I don't have anything lolita as of now ^^;; However, maybe with a set date, I can make something for it~

LoL, it is? It's so plain-ish...

If anything with a set date is planned in the [somewhat far off] future, I'll probably make something. Hm, maybe those Miho [Megatokyo] dresses I keep pushing down the list...

Oh, and I'm all for a potluck deal!

Inspiration struck while I was on the wrong thread for the idea, but how's early April for everyone's schedule (since finals for uni students aren't usually until mid-April)?

The idea of a tea party indoor's is a bit drab (although I have to say that Sarcasm's idea for high tea at York is very appealing, but not everyone may have enough money to splurge for it).

When most think tea parties for this kind of thing, they tend to think picnic style in a park on a nice spring day. So how about we go for HANAMI??!!! =D

I got all excited thinking about it. Kariya Park's supposed to have lots of cherry trees right? And April's the right time of spring for them to be in bloom.

Hanami is cherry blossom viewing in case there are people who aren't familiar with the term. It's the most popular spring event in most of Japan.

That sounds great to me :D I always wanted to watch cherry blossoms blooming ever since seeing that Sailormoon episode XD

If we do that, I take it we each pitch for food and stuff, so it will be a potluck? *wonders* Tea would be nice to have though~ *loves tea*

I'm inspired from reading too many BL mangas. -_-;;

Tea's just a drink, so if we have somewhere to get boiling water, whoever wants tea can still have some. I realized it just now that it's a park, so not like we can bring a convenient kettle and plug it in to boil water...

I guess we can bring tea in a thermos...not as good, but unless somebody has a battery-operated kettle...*shrug*

Hey sounds like a cool idea!! Lol.. I'll have to come just to see (is Jrock acceptable for guys??)!! But one thing... I always though cherry blossom trees to bloom in May.. not April... and isn't their festival in Japan around May 10th.. hmm... I'll check it out for ya... I'm pretty sure I saw a Kariya Park site that said the month the trees bloom in...

I'm not quite sure how the blossoming would work here either. Not only is the weather kind of unreliable in the past couple of years, we're colder here than most of Japan, so our cherry trees probably won't bloom at the same time as they do in Japan.

Someone else really should come up with the date. I reallyl suck at trying to figure out stuff with plants. For a biology major, I'm really no good at botany unless it's preparing samples for slides.

I think any kind of Japanese fashion would fit in nicely. Most Jrock outfits fit right into the male GL categories.

I think any of the styles outlined in the site above would be quite good for our purposes. ^^

Sorry, I lost track of this thread. Do we have a location? I remember someone mentioning the Old Mill hotel.. It would be awesome to find a classy place (gazebos, solariums, gardens, wrough iron garden furniture, and so on) as backdrop for tea-drinking pictures.

I think we're putting it off until spring hits and then going for a hanami (cherry blossom watching) at Kariya Park.

I think Kariya Park would be a really good place to have it cause it'll be all nice and covered in cherry blossoms soon, which seems a very good setting to have something based off of Japanese fashion. =D

I'm still up for organizing it, but I doubt I'll be around unless it's the first week of May. I don't think it would be hard to find someone reliable to hand this off to to have them oversee the actual event in my place though. ^^

Anyone got a date in mind?

Some friends and I were planning on going there in the last weeks of May/early June. Of course, cosng in appropriate outfits and having a picnic ^___^ Actually, I wanted to go twice, once then, and once earlier (Around the second week of May). Does anyone know when the blossoms open?

Latiesha
05-03-2005, 10:31 PM
Last year, if I remember correctly, the cherry trees bloomed a bit before May 19th (but this was in High Park ^^;; )...

If this event is to happen~ my friend and I would definitely go. :) We dress G&L almost everyday (outfits usually from bssb, metamorphose, h.naoto, or moitie^^) so we would love to meet others interested in this fashion.

We had planned to have tea at Royal York or King Edward this month, but this event is something new, so we will have our tea in June instead if this event is arranged and the weather is good.^^

Trying to fit one more event into the month of MAY could prove a hairpulling experience. It could (and I have to move to Philadelphia later this month too), but if at all possible, I would really like this event to be something of the relaxing nature. The travelling part might be a bit stressful for some, but it would be nice to have an event for everyone to relax at before the pre-con madness hits. >_<

I might be going to Kariya Park this weekend. I'll check the status of the cherry trees if/when I go, otherwise, anyone who gets to go by there in the next little while, if you could take a quick look, see if the cherry blossoms are open yet and let us know, you would rock my world. XD

Latiesha
05-04-2005, 09:27 PM
I completely agree, especially about the relaxing part. XD And since it is pre-con, we will all have something to talk about.^^

Also, since I think everyone there should be [somewhat?] interested in Japanese fashion~ my friend and I could bring a few of our magazines^^ There's Gothic & Lolita Bible, KERA, CUTiE, FRUiTS~ even Ranzuki.. but we can't bring many, or our arms will break off. XDD

Unless the neighbours are nice.We just had a picnic last night in the middle of Dundas and University downtown...wasn't really dangerous, but got plenty of strange looks. >_>

I wish there was a set time for when all the cherry blossoms would be at full power instead of randomly poking around until someone spots them. >_<

But for as long as I'm still in TO, I'm gonna keep watching the cherry trees in my neighbourhood to see when they'll be in blossom and if/when they finally start showing some good signs (more than the sorry excuses for leaf sprouts there right now), we can start setting a date. >_>
