The Masquerade

The masquerade rules should be posted on the website within the next couple of days (barring any technical problems). It will be run using the Standard Division System and we're hoping to have workmanship judging (subject to judges' availability). You may also direct any questions either to Elemental or Ninja Sensei.

The Costumers’ Suite

Are you tired of not seeing your friends or any of the convention because you’re in your room doing that “last bit of sewing before the masquerade”?

Do you want to “Ooo!” and “Aah!” over what’s being seen and is winning at other masquerades?

Or would you want pass any idle time surrounded by like-minded people and just chatting?

We will have a Costumers’ Suite set up so that you can do just that. It will have a fair bit of space to spread out in if you have to finish that last piece of sewing, an emergency sewing repair kit will be made available for use, the TV will be set up with a VCR and DVD to watch masquerade tapes on, and it is just down the hall from the Con Suite if you need to recharge your batteries a bit.

So drop in and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow costumers!

Since we're rampping up the costuming element at Ad Astra I hope there will be more dedicated Anime costumers attending. We already have a good solid dozen or so of the top costumers, it would be nice to see some newer faces enjoying the fun as well.

:jjacks:

I think the thing I like best about this con is the easy and rewarding volunteer program. I did all my hours in the Consuite last year which meant earning my crashspace while still getting to see and hang out with everyon. ^_^

I think it's about time we have one hardcore costume programming dedicated convention in town. ^_^ :bigtu:

It can be like our own mini Costume Con ^_^

btw - the Costumer's Suite sounds a lot like the just hijacked your house and brought it to the con. :P

I really like the idea of a Costumer's Suite. Man, that's where I'd be hanging out just to watch the old masquerades. ^^

The panels sound good and general-purpose (as in, many people can get help from them, not just one specific set of costumers). Wish I could be there!

I'm ready to help anywhere I can, in the panels.

The programming sounds FANTASTIC, and I'll thrilled about the costuming suite... Means I only have to stay up to 3am instead of the usual 4am ;)

Bad Gord .. that's not allowed. :P

This will actually be my first time as a pannelist ... not sure how I ended up getting suckered into it, but :: shrug :: Usually I just wander around to my friends pannels and talk like I'm part of them anyway. Just hope I don't miss other fun pannels myself.

I'm with Dani, willing (and I'd like to think able) to take part in any panels!

I don't think I'm breaking any secret here... I've been "recruited" for the BOOTS panel, dunno why... (looks at avatar)
What I'd like to do is ask the higher powers to rename it from "Bootcovers" to something more encompassing, like "Footwear alteration/adaptation techniques".

My part won't be about covers per-se (as I've never done one). The plan is to touch on paint/coloring/dying footwear, working with leather, patterns, soling, glues and how to apply them, and proper materials and tools for succesful results.

I hate that. That happend to Sarcasm_Hime and I at Worldcon in 2003. We had a few panels that we weren't on together and we were scheduled against each other so we missed out on each others panel once or twice. :( Buu!

Ok, you have to guarantee to hold this panel again in the future. I really want to learn your techniques! That, or when I'm back to Canada (which is, oh... fall of 2006....) I'm going to hunt you down. ^^

*is reminded yet again she has to get around to her preparations and resolves to at least go through her old fashion handouts and write the list of topics to be covered tonight* lol, i can't believe i have the most preparations-intensive panel this time! i'm usually just an "extra". but i'm happy my topics are being covered this time, it's so neat. *^_^*

^_^ anyway, i am looking forward to all the panels!

Tell me about it ... we need to get together and figure everything out.
Soooo looking forward to all the other pannels though. It'll be a nice change for the usual costume pannels most cons I've been to have. ^_^

Hmm.. of all the conventions I"ve been to I don't think I've attended a single panel yet, which leads to the question... what do I do all that time at a convention.. lol.. these sound extremely interesting.. I've already made a checklist of all those I want to attend!!
