I only know the name of of where these cool cosplay comes from. Does anyone know the story of Trinity Blood or where I can find good references for this genre of cosplay?

What would even be better is if someone can tell me where I can read synopsis of this anime/manga?

the costumes of them are not super hard, the accessories that kill you.
I have been done with Esther's full sisterhood dress, but only 10% with her decorations. I don't even want to mention Seth Nightlord. I would hit Radu before her. vol. 3 of the manga has been released if you need pics. IF not, Sneaker has the latest stuff and Asuka has month release.

The anime is very new. The novel and mangas are at least 3 years of age, however. Appropriately, TB is the darling of the Japanese cosplay scene even longer than that.

The wonderful thing about TB costumes is that the general silouette and colors are very recognizable if one is a fan of the series. You honestly don't need all of the details and other stuff because the shapes are easily identifiable for each character or just a generic uniform. Unless you're cosplaying Peter Abel, Cain, Asthorash Asran or Lilith, because each have very specific looks, colors and jewelry associated with them.

Are the mangas really that old? They're just being released. If you want an example of the manga art, I can scan some of mine at a later date.

Re: Abel Nightroad's wings - in the manga they're large, black, and feathery. Although I forgot how many there are at the moment. A least 2.
Location - Italy is very important (due to the Vatican and Rome), but the beginning of the novel starts with a map with locations, and it shows all of "Europe", including parts of Russia.
German - Rozen Kreuz, I believe, is the correct spelling.

Thanks for the info, Eleryth. ^__^ Edit, yeah, the manga is only one year and something months old. I think. But it can't be more than that. The writer's death complicated a few things though the manga adaptation already had the green light.

I think it's the novels that are that old because I've heard of it back in 2001 when I was there and saw illustrations by Shibamoto. I think it was something about the novels being released, a review of sorts, not the physical books themselves that are out so they probably came out around 2002. I know Shibamoto through the artist's work on the Five Star Stories, that was how I stumbled onto TB.

*nods* The illustrations are not the same as the manga as they are drawn by two different people so there is probably some confusion there.

I am planning on doing a Seth Nightlord, and trying to get all the details down is making my head spin. One of the main problems is I only have a small amount of illustrations - I have more cosplay pictures as reference so I am trying to match which cosplayer I think got a costume the most accurate then look at various angles of their work since have a drawing shortage of angles.

which one are you refering to???
i know there are three that i have illustrations for

-her in the green/white on cover of novel
-her in battle without headress, with two swords (or something similar to those huge things)
-her in her court dress (more elegant, more of an in-court gown)

Not the black & white one - the hat reminds me of a graduation hat and makes me giggle

Will attach image of cosplay ones I would like to find more references for. I really only have a few reference images for the cover one(left most outfit). If I could get enough reference to feel confident had most details, I probably would try making a couple of these as I like Vradica's style.

Thanks so much for posting those, rahu-6.jpg at http://babu.jp/~cross/ was exactly the type of reference I am hunting for. I had a slightly blurry color pic but the black & white drawing there really helps. The cover Vradica keeps looking more likely, as that is all the drawn reference I have and the majority of cosplaying images it seems.

I think this is one of the best threads for Trinity Blood we've had. It would be great if we kept this one up and alive so all us fans can discuss this series and any future costumes without a new thread popping up and all of us having to start over again.

http://www.barroque.com/pierrot/trinityblood/viewtopic.php?t=119
for anyone who doesn't have the novels, or does but cannot ready japanese (like myself) this person was kind enough to translate and compress the first novel story, keeping all the original illustrations. enjoy!

Woohoo! I hope to get my pictures up soon...or maybe it's going to be a while. Anyway, I cosplayed Lilith and it cost me literally nothing to buy. I had all the materials and cloth from my family and friends because they were all ethnic or religious items we posessed. Except for that weird cross which I ended up breaking after spending more than 2 days on. >.<

Or maybe you can find some of me in the Sakura con 2005 pictures taken by Eurobeat King. I'm the only one who's wearing a yellow and deep purple sari. Hm, I need to go find that link myself...*wanders off*

There's an artbook coming out in September... 200+ pages, A4 size, about $90. I'm so excited! I'll definitely scan images once I have it in my grubby little hands. I'm seriously trying hard not to fangirl. I do hope it's what I think it is, seeing as the info was in Japanese and I know only a little kanji...but for the price, and having the kanji for picture, and color in katakana and the paper size and all, I think I'm ok. ^^

EDIT:
Seeing as it's being advertised on the website for the anime, I am sure I'm ok. Whee! Only, what, 5 months to go? End of September.

http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/toribla/ Anime main page (hint, for more results if seaching in Japanese, they often shorten it to toribla, as seen in the url for the anime)

http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/toribla/magazine/

The book is called "fabrica theologiae"...web reservation begins in July (7th month, 22nd day), but it doesn't come out until September (date as of yet unknown).

Anime thoughts - the chara designs are quite simplified, but that was to be expected. First ep airs this month, on the 28th!!! WHEEE!

Thank you evilchii! #^_^# Yeah, I was also making props for a couple of other people but it all broke in transport. Now I know to use bubble packing and give each item a lot of space. Also they shouldn't be packed too tightly. NEVER use hot glue on such delicate props is another thing I've learned the hard way. Plastic, metal and cloth do not like each other when bonded with such a substance. The pieces just snap apart at the slightest touch. @_@ I almost sat down and cried since the cross was such an integral part of the costume. Then I said, screw it and wore the costume anyway.

Hm, I should make a website about TB, but my html skills are practically non-existant. *shrugs* Ah well. There isn't any good ones in English and I want to show that there are English speaking fans. It'll focus mainly on general information instead of specifics and very likely cosplay with a small fanart gallery.

Does this sound like a good idea? I want to get the cosplay section up first. I think Geocities would be good enough for a few months until I find someone willing to host the site...

Heehee, how did you find those? I think I linked them in a different thread once... If you want bigger images at a higher resolution, just ask. They're stored on my bf's external harddrive right now. I had to ask her to get a back shot of the detail. It was gorgeous! Stunning in real life, and photographs really well. She actually had red contacts in, too.

The girl's (cosplay?) name is Rei Kohinata, and her website is:http://glass-doll.whitesnow.jp/ I've looked for her TB cosplay, but it's not up there, for some reason. I know this link and have had it saved for over a year as a good reference for Seth. It seems she has since taken down the trinity blood cosplay and some other cosplay she had up (i can only susspect for space reasons) A lot of the older really good cosplayers that have trinityblood costumes have since taken them down or the links are no longer active. My only guess is like other people with limited space/bandwith. You take down old stuff so you can post new stuff.
But there are lots of pepole still doing Trinityblood cosplay. Its just the job of hunting it all down.

so far Episode one of the anime.....interesting. Its very pretty, and very well done. But they've effectively made a NEW start. Since there is no esther in the first ep (though i am figureing second ep) They've used a joke from one of the later number novels. took the scene between catherina, francessco and alessandro from the first novel. Basicly its a general mishmash. I think i might have liked it more if i didn't know about the novel storyline. But I think it has the potential to get pretty good.
And yes i do agree...Catherina has a beanbag on her head. Which in a way is kinda funny. Can't wait to see people make that.

Eleryth -- I just put in Trinity Blood, TB, ToruBaradu and different variations of the same two words in image.google until I saw that. It really is gorgeous so thanks for the link...even if I couldn't find the seth outfit. Her otehr creations are just...wow.

I never thought about green velvet being used, but it's an appropriate fabric. Green silk velvet would just probably bankrupt a few people, but I know of a couple of cosplayers who want to do this outfit who are going that route.

I've changed a few things in my first post in the first page. Reviews by others have also been added...what there is of it, anyway.
I just saw the first two episodes and I really want to cosplay gunslinger.
Would anyone have a few good pics of his pistols?
Who's gunslinger? I used to have a "spread sheet" artwork of just about everyone from the AX and Rozen Kruez organisations...gone now. *disgusted at herself* Unfortunately Trinity Blood manga is not all that familiar to many Western fans...so we don't know who everyone is either... The anime would be even less known about...especially who might be added specifically for the anime version or who might have been cut.
Are they gonna cut some ppl from the cast? They'd have too, I think. The books and the mangas are...convulated with different little side stories. Animation doesn't get the same luxuries as being able to go off on little side trip every 2 pages, like the manga has. I think it's that money, time constraints and all of that...

That and there are so many characters that'd be insane to put them all in. No matter how fascinating they all are. If you've ever seen the Yami no Matsuei (Descendents of Darkness) anime, you see how they cut out so much? That's about how it looks to be shaping up. But I desperately hope not.

Unfortunately, what I heard about the anime is that the females are severely dumbed down. Since a couple of them are pivotal to the plot and growth of all the characters, with their cool cat act in the vein of Falk U. Rognar without the added testosterone (or if you're not familiar with the Five Star Stories...Shame on you~! J/K! XD), Integra Hellsing without the ugly masculine get-up, it'd be a shame if this is true.

By the way, Thores Shibamoto got ideas for Trinity Blood's machines, character's looks, acts and personal style from Five Star Stories. The storyline is also similar to FSS. I'm sure the artist will put FSS as one of the driving forces behind TB because of it's incredibly influential hook in the anime/manga industry. The entire visual looks of TB is an homage to FSS. Shibamoto used to work under Mamoru Nagano, FSS creator, and helped, especially, with FSS stuff.

If you want to get a feel for TB, just look up FSS, is all I'm saying...not because I'm severely obsessed with FSS...*coughs*

For Tres Iqus, do you want anime or manga/novel pictures, Griever? There's a bit of difference between the two because of the fact that there's a bit more detail in the manga/novels.

If you want anime, then you can look at Trinity Blood at the Hellsing Organization. The link for that is: http://thehellsing.org/trinity/index.php
They also have some pictures from the manga/novels and magazine scans.

As mentioned before, there's a community on Live Journal for Trinity Blood. The correct link for that is: http://www.livejournal.com/community/trinityblood/
I became a member of the community just recently, but haven't really introduced myself yet. ^^; The people are nice, from what I've noticed so far, and they share information and collections.

I want to do a Trinity Blood cosplay, but haven't really decided on a character yet. Hm...does anyone know where I can get more Leon Garcia's images? He has wavy very dark brown or black hair and sexy bronzed skin. Very tall, very buff, very scruffy and very good looking. Think Viggo Mortenson, or however his name is spelled in Lord of the Rings, good, rugged looks. He's a member of AX as well and seems to have a rivalry going on with Gunslinger aka HC-TRES Iqus.

Also, many of you have probably already seen this, but it's a mangled translation of the introduction from the official url. So I'll just take out a lot more stuff on my second post in this thread and put this in there instead.

YAY! So many pics available here!!! Does anyone know where to get past chap2 of the manga? (only two chapters is so upsetting when youre hooked lol) Im working on an abel crossplay. After analysing (still on that process btw) i really do realise that the accesories are the hardest most expensive part. Im not too worried about stuff breaking (ive done a bit of metal working in the past, though i ended up preferring the look of the shiny tin foil like duct tape for the detail and delicacy of arwen's wedding crown lol) And one tip for anyone going as a priest......: McCall's Matrix pattern. Its a nice simple base costume that can be dressed up to be a perfect tb priest!

Cant wait for ep 6!!!!!!

I think one of the big 3 companies actually has a priest pattern - I've bought it and used it for something, but I can't think of the company off the top of my head. Butterick, maybe...

Yeah, I just checked, it is butterick. I do think I like the matrix version a bit more as it has sseparate sections like abels costume (in the manga) which would add a certain billowy quality in the wind lol. The only thing its really lacking is the sleeve cuffs but those would be pretty easy to add.

the costumes of them are not super hard, the accessories that kill you.

Are Asuka and Sneaker irc channels? If so, what is the link to the xdcc lists if they have them? And also, does anyone know where i could dl the themes? they keep getting stuck in my head lol.

We're not allowed to discuss downloading of materials (against forum rules), so you'll just have to search google or something, sorry. But I'm pretty sure Sneaker and Asuka are magazines, not IRC channels. I see mention of them all over the mangas and on little papers in the novels.

I'm hoping to do a Vaclav (or perhap a William) costume (anime version). I was wondering if anyone had any good reference pics of the front and back of the jackets?

I've recently started on a Seth cosplay (the green cover one). Thanks to people in this thread, I finally have enough reference pics to figure out her outfit. ^-^
However, I'm still not sure about the hat. Does anyone know what it's supposed to look like from the back?

I bought a new TB book from Animate last time I was there (Canon: Summa Theologica, I think it's called) and it has a few pics in the beginning, and there is one gory pic of Abel, Cain and Seth, but it has the back of her hat. I hope to scan it tonight and I'll put it up for you.

There's also a pic of Lilith, but she's not wearing a sari, it's a white dress of some sort. And several other pics of other people whose names I don't know off the top of my head.

I was looking for pics of Seth's weapon, but there didn't seem to be one in that image I had (was hoping there was). I don't own all the novels yet... I would only really buy them for the pics, which I assume will end up in the artbook anyway.

oooh please do post any pics you can! I want to get the novels but so far as I know they arent in either french or english (the two languages im fluent in) I know its in Japanese and in Chinese, does anyone know if its been printed in any other languages that I have more of a chance of learning? (planning on taking a third language anyways) If I can learn enough to understand one of the languages its in, ill buy it for sure lol.

Arent Seth's weapon these two huge dagger like things?

I don't know. I'm actually looking for someone else. I've fallen behind the TB obsession a little, as I figure no point in getting crazy until the book arrives. Only 4 more months...

As for learning enough Japanese, you'd have to know quite a bit. There's a lot of kanji, and they are novels, after all, and not written for children. If I were a manga company in America, I'd pick them up....but I'm not. And I can't read them that well, either (and I've been studying some Japanese, but I don't know near enough).

Sephiria-chan

Great pictures! One question, Who is it who is standing over Seth's body? I see black wings, but Cain is normally in white, not Abel...... Plus, Abel is the nice guy (at least by what ive seen.....)

Eleryth
06-15-2005, 05:56 PM
If you're talking about the sorta fuzzy black around the shoulder of Cain, that's Seth's hair. ^^; Cain is holding Seth's head and is dressed in white, and Abel is in the bottom right corner and so got cut off entirely. I wanted to crop only Seth out since it was for the hat (and the rest of her outfit), otherwise it would have had to be much smaller and not as high quality.

Wow, its really cool to see so many people interested in Trinity Blood cosplay. ^_^ I'm still kinda new to the series, as I just discovered it a few weeks ago but I'm already absolutely in love with it. Been reading all the book translations up on the TB forum too.

I doubt I can get around to do any cosplay for it this year but I'm definitly thinking of planning some for next year. Most likely I'll do Dietrich because I love the Rozen Kreuz outfits and he's such a smug bastard, thus I like him. Can't wait for more of the Rozen group to show up in the anime too.

One thing you could do is make it using all the details available through analysing that picture, then if you get better pictures later, you can make the teensy alterations. For most rare costumes, fan art is a big help, but trinity blood fanart is a bit on the rare side unfortunately. If I get the chance between studying for exams and working on my costume (i will have some free time tomorow during school and in the evening), i can do my best to do a mini analysis/sketch for you. For that outfit hers does seem to be a feminine version of the on Abel is wearing in that pic. The bottom of both costumes are basically the same...... The main difference is that her collar isnt turned up. The skirt and jacket are quite clearly separate.

EDIT: It is EXPENSIVE. Try the tune of about $90 (plus international shipping). However, it's hardcover, 256 (most likely A4) pages, *full color*. Considering my other artbooks aren't near that size (maybe 30 pages), softcover, and cost on average $20-25, this isn't a bad price. Oh, and factor in the fact that contrary to the above post (as I read in some american anime magazine yesterday at my friend's house, but can't remember the title), they called her "the late Shibamoto Thores".... so I have no idea if she's died, or what...

Once I have my book, I WILL scan pages to create a gallery.

Oh, and factor in the fact that contrary to the above post (as I read in some american anime magazine yesterday at my friend's house) it contains the art of "the late Shibamoto Thores".... there's no more of her art coming, seeing as she's not alive to make more. It's got 5 years of TriBla art.

Wait a minute...I know the original author of the books passed away but the artist is dead too now? When did that happen? o_o I haven't heard anything about that before 'cause I thought I heard she was helping out with the art in the anime. That's really depressing if she is though. ;_;

Eleryth
06-27-2005, 05:48 PM
Maybe the article mixed it up then? I had also thought it was the author b/c of this thread, but the magazine called her "the late"... so I assumed she was dead.

I cant, for the life of me, remember which American anime mag it was.... >.< But they review an anime or something every time, and it was about Tribla, and that's what was mentioned. They could have easily mixed it up...and now I have no idea who's dead and who's not.

Seeing as I've only read about the author online, and the artist in a mag, I figured the magazine would have done it's research. I don't know enough Japanese to even find out.

Sorry for the drama.... if anyone has concrete evidence (or can find that darn magazine! Might have been June's edition, maybe had Ghost in the Shell on the cover...?) please let us know!

EDIT: Going to email my friend and ask him, too, but I won't hear for a little while.

I searched a little with Thores's name and the kanji for death and the words for "died", and I get summaries of the novels. She's probably NOT dead, and the magazine mixed it up.

Going to edit that other post...

This is a different costume of esthers, im not sure if its actually one of her others with armor or if its a brand new one, but here it is.
Possible Spoiler : Highlight to read.
Just thought I would mention that is infact Mary Spencer who is the half sister of Ester. Her and her partner, nicknamed Calamity Jane if I remember right, attempt to assassinate Ester. Shes also in the Albion Navy.

Just so that was completely cleared up. Anyway, to my knowledge there has been no news of THORES death..infact on the Trinity Blood forums there was an image for the new novel,by a diffrent author of course, with another THORES cover.

06-29-2005, 08:52 AM
Is the new one titled Canon: Summa Theologicae (probably spelt that wrong)? I've got that one already - that's where the scans from the other page came from that I put up. Doesn't seem to be a novel, but more of an encyclopedia (that I can't read, anyway). I'm holding off on buying the other novels since I'd really only do it for the pics, and the artbook is coming out.

Yeah, the death thing really had me confused. I can only assume that the magazine got it wrong. Ah well.

Sephiria-chan
06-29-2005, 01:25 PM
Yeah, I have a pic of Mary Spencer and Jane here. (since have read more summaries) Highlight to read on: Mary wants Esther dead so she can be queen. Fun fact about Jane: her choice weapon is the whip, and she has been married 7 times, all marriages ended with the death of her husband.

Its so good to see so many trinity blood cosplayers emergining. My friends and I are doing a trinity blood groups only we're doing 'Trinity Glam'. Since my friends don't know much about trinity blood (some are new to anime in general) I picked who they should be based on the chracter they were like leaving us with a mismatched group. So since I am planning on going into design after I graduate I thought I would find away to take the beautiful costume designs and alter them a little bit to make us unique and go together.
Well, After seeing Velvet Goldmine I got really into the glitter/glam rock look. So now I'm using the already elaborate costumes (which kind of reminded me of some glam rock outfits I found) and alter tiny things here and their, add or change a color or two and get glammed up make up and hair to make us TRINITY GLAM, the greatest made up glitter band in all anime!!
I'm taking seths two weapons and make them into a double guitar, turn Abels giant scythe into a base, Cains cross thing into a guitar, Helga’s wand into a microphone, etc. It's going to be so fun! I can't wait ^___^!!!

I was wondering..I'm working on this version of Abel: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v512/badeend/ROMIII-02.jpg and it's coming along quite nice, but I plan to kind of add some details from the other version of abel, like the back and the left arm armor, as well as those three crosses and well, other little details..do you think people will mind? I know I should just do what I like, but this will be my first real big convention and I'd hate to see people get mad at me because I merged two costumes..would you mind if you saw someone do that?

Kat Murz
07-05-2005, 03:34 PM

One thing that would be good is to change the design on the armor because the red vatican crosses wouldnt quite go with the blue gemmed empire garb. The crosses would be great to add, especially the really ornate one cause he inherited that one from Lilith.

Oh, and a question for my own costume. In some pictures, parts of Abel's armor seem slightly gold toned, in others it all seems silver. The cross is another item like this. Do you believe I should do the gold tint or not. It looks good both ways so I really cant decide.

Kat Murz
07-06-2005, 09:30 AM
From what I've seem in some pictures the cross looks like it's gold, and the things on his neck also are and the shoulder and back armor appears to be silver with sort over a blackish undertone, that sort of weathered look (not sure how to describe it >.<). That's what I'm going with for my friends Abel costume but either was would be good like you said ^_^

Sephiria-chan
07-06-2005, 09:51 AM
Yeah, the tarnished silver look. Im getting leafing next week to put onto the cross and armor so its good to know. The cross would look better in gold too i think cause the silver looks a bit fake on clay. The scythe will be a challenge lol.

Kat Murz
07-06-2005, 01:32 PM
Ahh yes the almighty scythe >.< Good luck with that! I'm having enough problems making friends bass guitar thats based off the scythe, I couldn't imagine trying to make the whole giant thing! Be sure to post pictures once your done your costume ^__^

Sephiria-chan

My plan for the scythe is to use a shower curtain rod cover (those little plastic tubes) as the handle or pvc piping. Im going to make the top detachable though as I have a very small car trunk lol. You must post pics too! Those costumes sound great. Ive been trying to convince my friends to do tb costumes for AN too but they arent up for the detail and my friend who is a Noelle look alike is way too conservative to agree.

I'm planning Seth Nightlord and well... I dont want to make her blades, instead I think it would be cuter if I made a small rod with a cross on top...you know like the pope has, do you all think thats okay?

Kat Murz
07-06-2005, 07:56 PM
A small rod insted of the weapons would work since she's the empress of the vampires, but maybe use something insted of a cross. In TB the cross is usually only seen on the vatican people, then Seth's empire has their own symbol (sort of like like the one on her hat) and Cain's group has their own as well. I've seen a picture of just the symbol before I'll try to find it for you ^__^

I did not know Seth was the empress o.O;;; Woosh thanks for informing me, it would be great if you could get the symbol for me! I would really appreciate it ^^ So now I'll change it from a cross to that symbol.

Okay, I couldn't find the exact site but I found a cosplay site that uses the symbols, if you click on any of the ones in about the 6th grey box down it's Seth empire so the symbol will appear beside the cosplay picture ^__^, good luck!: http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~hayase/tricos/frame.html

This is a very useful and informative thread!

I would like to join any Rozen Kreuz group if possible. I will be cosplaying Reisszahn (a relatively unknown member of the Rozen kreuz order). This is because I love the Rozen kreuz military outfit, and I have his hair.

I already bought the fabric for it, a really nice, fine 100% wool. I even searched for the type of fabric used in World War II and I have discovered that they generally use wool, gabardine or drill cotton, but of different types due to the tumultuous and ever-changing state of the society at that time.

I was wondering what everybody thinks of the piping colour in the Rozen kreuz outfit. It seems grey/silver to me, instead of the usual white piping that the previous cosplayers used.

Edit: Do you have any reference pictures of the military insignia of Rozen Kreuz, in particular the ones on their shoulders?

Sephiria-chan
07-10-2005, 03:26 PM
Here is an enlargement of the shoulder insignia from one of the scans Eleryth put up awhile back.

Ok, now my question is, im doing Abel's priest robes (i know, ive been done the base part for about a week) but I have not put trim onto the bottom. Im wondering if it would look better with or without it. I know the pics show with, but to look taller(not that thats really necesary at 6') etc, im think it *might* be better left off. (sorry to bother you all with my indecisiveness once again!)

Ok, got a question for everyone ^_^. Before I start on my dream costume of Cain (lol), I want to make a Mirka costume. However, the only image I can find of her is the Methuselah Empire montage... thing, and she has her hand up in front of her, so I can't see many of the details on the chest of her dress. I need another picture! lol

Black and white or color will do. Even fanart. Hell, even if there's a description of her from one of the novels, that would do too. I have an idea of how the front looks, but if I'm gonna spend the time and money... well, I wanna get it right (or at least close to right lol). Any help is appreciated!

Kat Murz
07-10-2005, 10:48 PM
To Ghost: it your also looking for the insignia on the red band go to the site I listed for Ephemerality and about 7 grey boxes down the insigina appears beside the cosplayers pic.

To Sephiria-chan: It's hard to say without seeing the costume, but if you have the trim everywhere else especially down the front then you should probably put it around the bottom or it might not look complete. But it's a hard call with out seeing it. If your already 6' feet you don't need to worry about looking taller (I'm also 6 feet Yay for tall ppl!!)

To Space Invader: Have you posted this on the TB forum site? If not put it up their and I gurantee someone will have pictures for you. The link is back near the start of the thread but if you want I can re-post it for you. ^_^

Rosieal
07-11-2005, 11:31 AM
Sephiria-chan: Thank you so much for the image. That was of great help. Regarding your question, I believe that it would still be best to be as accurate as possible with Abel's costume, so I think putting the trimmings on would still be a better idea.

Kat Murz: Thanks! I have seen it now. Do you reckon this should be best embroidered on the red arm band?

Kat Murz
07-11-2005, 12:15 PM
embroidery would look good but it takes time. You could always do like I'm doing for my seth and make an appliqué and sew it on.

After seeing the awesome Trinity Blood cosplayers at AX this year, I am really wanting to try to see if I can make a complicated, yet beautiful cosplay from this series. Yes, I've know about T.B. for a while now & the manga is awesome (I have 3 volumes so far). I  Esther Blance/Blanchett, she is soooo funny. I am really thinking of cosplaying her for AX next year. It would be hard, yet fun to make, I hope. :sunny:

Wow, it's so cool to see so many people interested in TB. ^^ I would love to see like either a full AX group or a full Rosen Kreuz group out there. That would be the most awesome-ness. *_* I wish I could go ahead and start on some outfits from it but I most likely won't have any time to til next year. x_x;

Thanks Kat!

I would like to ask another question though. There is this Rozen kreuz character called Radu and he also goes to the Empire to look after Seth Nightlord.

I was wondering if anyone here has seen a full body picture of Radu in his Rozen kreuz outfit (he has an Empire outfit too!). I only have a half-body scan from manga.

I don't believe he will appear in the animation though, as I have already watched 1-8 and it has only 13 episodes, but then again I can never be too sure.

Edit: Also, if anyone is up for a Rozen Kreuz group around summer of next year, PM me!

second of all...... I just come back from San Diego Comic-con International... and talk to people in Funamation booth... and they said that they adopt TB anime... and gonna come out next year in US... I've decided to go on ahead & kill myself by making Esther Blanchett's main outfit in the manga & novels: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/XiaoQiao/AbelNightrodEstherBlanchett.jpg

All that detail is cra~zy, but I know it'll be worth it. After seeing those awesome Trinity Blood cosplayers [from Japan] at this past AX, it really inspired me. I've liked this series for a year & a half or so, but never considered cosplaying it until now. I want to challenge myself. ^^

But~, I also  this version of "Imperial Infiltrator" Esther: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/XiaoQiao/TrinityBlood.jpg

Does anybody have any more reference to this outfit? I love that particular version of her. She has such cool outfits. :sunny:

ycysusan - Thanks for the links. Those cosplayers do a really fantastic job on their TB costumes. They are very inspirational. ^^

takaya - Great tutorial! Too bad I don't have access to half of those materials, though.

That version of Esther is pretty easy to find pics of. I have alot, i will just post the ones that i dont recall seeing on this thread. If you want the full sized versions (some of those you could pick out every little detail) PM me. One of the pics is of her blue novice uniform, but it has the same general shape. Some of the pics are also cropped to show esther better, and the last is a pretty big spoiler in full version, but is cropped to minimise it.

Mirka costume is getting made for Halloween. After staring at my only reference image for a few minutes I've deciphered what I believe to be the beginnings of one of the Empire red banners on her shoulder (and it's appropriate holster piece), so a banner she shall have. My only dilemma is the transparent sash thing that appears to be coming out of a pair of golden epaulette-like pieces on her shoulders - from reading the novels, does anyone know is this is actually part of her outfit? Or is it one of those "shield" items, like Seth's protection ring or those gold diamond things that hover around Astharoshe and Ion? See pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/spaceinvader/reference%20pictures/mirka1.jpg . Thanks to anyone who may have some input. :D

But~, I also this version of "Imperial Infiltrator" Esther: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...rinityBlood.jpg

Actually, I do! They're in black and white (from the inside of Reborn on the Mars III), but you still can see the details of it really well. I'll attach 'em for you.

With the color image, it looks like the empire seal is on the back of her skirt, probably in the blue colors like it is on her sleeve.

Sephiria-chan
07-27-2005, 07:29 PM
From that it does look like they are part of her outfit, like a decorative ribbon. But hey, dont quote me, if you did do it differently and then found out otherwise, it does seem as if it wouldnt be too bad to alter

The animation did not put all the details of the Rosen Kreuz uniform for instance, otherwise it would be a bit too offensive, I think. They made the cross look more like a normal cross rather than the iron cross you saw in previous artworks

Well, got the book...and it is incredibly drool worthy! ^_^ Gorgeous work, gorgeous book. It has it's own cardboard box, bubble wrapped, with a sleeve like DVDs sometimes come in (black, embossed with gold writing), and the book itself seems to have been covered in some really short-pile black velvet, with black embossing again. No wonder it was so expensive! At at least an inch thick - however, there are not pictures on every page, but the paper is high quality, glossy, and thick.

It looks like Seth has several green outfits with slight variations, so be careful which ones you choose to do. ^_^

Also, I saw manga 5 in the store the other day, so keep your eyes open for that, too.

Yeah, I saw it on the Kadokawa website a week ago or so. I ordered manga volumes 4 & 5 from Kinokuniya Bookstore (in Los Angeles), as well as Reborn on the Mars III (since I am making Esther's "Imperial Infiltrator" costume...I need all the reference I can get, so I can take it to the fabric store & choose the perfect fabric and colour!) <--- *My goodness, what a run-on sentence!* XD

ycysusan2001 - The artbook - Fabrica Theologiae - is 8925 yen. That's roughly about $78. Yes, it's rather expensive. I'm sure it's worth it...I wish I had the extra money to buy Thores Shibamoto's work. You mentioned Esther's black costume by AX2006? Are you making the same one as I? (I'm doing TB for AX06 too!)

I did not pre-order at all. I got mine from Amazon.jp and I purchased the one what has the Trinity Blood Canon with it. I ordered mine on the 30th of September and it promptly arrive 5 working days later, which was the 7th of October.

You can get it from amazon.co.jp. Just search for "Fabrica Theologiae".

Going back on the cosplay topic, I am planning on a Sword Dancer outfit (I really hope I won't ruin it), thanks to the pressure which was exerted successfully on me, by my friend, who will hopefully be Leon.

I realise that all the AX cosplayers here are going to be dealing with the arrow-shaped accesory that lines their coats. Apart from the Japanese girl's tutorial, does anyone have any idea which would be the most effective way of mass-producing these things. :schitzo:

glue or something to keep it from soaking up all my paint and so that it has a smoother texture. Mmm... sorry for randomly jumping into the thread. :D Lately, I've been getting really addicted to Trinity Blood, and I am seriously considering to cosplay Ion Fortuna at AX next year. He's so cute. T_T

I'm hoping to do this outfit, but does anyone have any colored pictures of it? o_o

Lovely! That gives me a basic idea of Esther's ROTM3 [front of the] outfit! I can't wait until I get the ROTM3 novel from Kinokuniya soon~! :heart: I am hoping there is more reference in there, because I want to get Esther's outfit as accurate as possible! What are you planning to make it out of, ycysusan? For mine, I'm thinking of using a velvet or even a velveteen for the black. For the white, I am still deciding what I could possibly use that will look nice. The whole outfit is like o_O...all those details are going to beat me up rather badly. ^^;

^^; I never know what kind of material what I’ve got... but it’s something shiny ^^lll and about the white part... I am still deciding between cut it or paint it ^^; If I cut it… its going to be so hard, but nicer… its going to be all uneven. I will be easier if I just paint it. I have not decided yet. For my… I think I am going to make a bit more fancier… I mean putting more shinning stuff on it ^^

My abel costume is not going to happen.... Due to lack of money for a wig, im doing Hughe (my hair is basically exact to his) or Monica (my friend insists i look exactly like her and somehow i can make my hair look that short flawlessly...) My problem.... Very few pictures of either of them from the novels the I know of. If anyone has any pictures of either one, id be very grateful. Thanks!

I have artbook scans in my computer, but I got them all from the Trinity Blood forums. It would be best to use their gmail sharing account.

hi Ghost!! i see a lot of your posts in this forum and the TB forum at invisionfree !! (I don't post much there ^^;;) I like your new avatar, love the wig and especially your make-up (I read your make-up post, i'm going to try it out). I want the new THORES artbook too, but alas, the poor college student, however, not too poor to raid Jo-anns this weekend!!!
I'm making Tres' Rozen Kreuz uniform for my bf. What did you use to make the black uniform out of? I was thinking of using black sateen or would that be too light?

ycysusan2001, yay!! another TB cosplayer for AX, i'm so excited! i'm making seth's costume ^_^V. As for the border trims on your esther costume, personally, i would suggest you cut it out of fabric and either one, applique it on, or... back it up with heat and bond (wonderful stuff) and put facing on it to make it sturdier and then sew it on or just heat and bond it on directly (without the facing). Painting is very messy and you may not get the results you want. pain runs too, unfortunately, especially since you said you got some shiny fabric material for the black. I tried using fabric markers on my silk brocade for my bf's Sun Ce costume, didn't work. not only did the paint run, it spread (capillary action) into a messy blob on the fabric. good thing i tested it before i did anything.

Nozomi.... that is so clever, its absolutely ingenious as to how your going to make the arcs on the silver clip things with craft foam too no less. This opens up new possibilities as to what other costumes i can make ^_^V

Hi kirschy! Good luck on the costume research and fabric hunting ^_^V

I'm making Tres' Rozen Kreuz uniform for my bf. What did you use to make the black uniform out of? I was thinking of using black sateen or would that be too light?

I would highly suggest that you buy a suiting wool, those that are used for formal suits. For my Dietrich outfit, I used a fine, 100% cashmere wool(Italian, I believe), only because I tricked my mother by saying that I will be using it for formal occasions. It was originally just a black, double-breasted jacket. :schitzo:

Wool for suits comes in a range of prices, so I am pretty certain you will find on that is appropriate for your needs.

As for make-up, the instructions will be slightly different from person to person, depending on the character they are cosplaying as well as their facial features. For instance, on my avatar, I only used a Ben Nye 'paleifying' foundation on my face, a nude lipstick and black eyeliner around my eyes. It's a quick cosplay make-up trick, but for most characters, especially Trinity Blood, you may need to put on more. ^_^

It is indeed a bit challenging when trying to figure out what fabric to use when basing it off a character. What you're going to use sounds nice. I'm just crazy *laughs* when I am thinking of velvet/velveteen. I know that is a heavy fabric - especially to wear in July - for an outfit of many layers. ^^; As for the white part...yes, that is going to be challenging. There is an immense amount of detail in that particular outfit of Esther's. But even though it's going to be a challenge, I like that. I like to drive myself crazy when I make hard costumes! *Grins* ^_~

Which Trinity Blood forum would this be, Ghost? May you please give me a link to this site? I would love to see the artbook scans from Fabrica Theologiae! *dances*

Hi kirschy! Good luck on the costume research and fabric hunting ^_^V

kkoganei - Thanks, I'm going to need it! XD I'm heading into the city tommorow...perhaps I'll look for something for my Esther costume. I might as well buy the supplies now. Though, at the moment, I am limited on extra cash, so I have to be careful what I buy. I just wish velvet/velveteen wasn't so damn expensive. It's like, $20 a yard or something. ^^; That is awesome you are going to make Tres' Rozen Kruez outfit for your boyfriend. I look foward to seeing both of your costumes at AX next summer!

As for painting on fabric...believe it or not, acrylic paint works wonders. I'm serious. That's what I used on my Xiao Qiao, Okuni, and my Yumi costumes. Everybody who saw the designs said it looked awesome & asked what it was. It's just plain ol' acrylic. Though, Golden Brand acrylic is really nice stuff. ^__^ I also use that stuff on props.

kkoganei1328, thanks a lot! LOL. However, I really am planning to use the coat for formal purposes, and because I love the Rosencreutz uniforms so much, I might just make a better, cheaper one that I can permanently attach the piping and embroideries on! I will try and decipher Seth's make-up and I'll post it on here soon. I suspect that you would need to use false eyelashes to heighten the effect of the "extra-large" eyes.

Ok, i just got a wig for myself at Loblaws (yes the grocery store) for Monica Argento. Its pretty good quality, no ratting at all and quite thick. It was a china doll wig and I have now styled it. Its a bit too long in places still, Id appreciate any critique or tips on making it a bit more accurate.

That is looking fantastic! You do look like Monica too!

Base on the artbook, you only need to seperate the fringes quite a bit and also, you need to thin the sides of the wig to expose a bit of your ears.

Wow, I've recently started following this series (due to a friend wanting to cosplay Esther), and now I think I want to drive myself insane by making an Astaroshe costume. I might switch to Kate Scott, but for now I'm thinking Astaroshe.

I was wondering, does anyone have any reference pictures of the costume in the picture I've attached? I can't seem to find any anywhere. I've found a few pictures of slightly different outfits, but anything that would give me a better view of any part of it, especially the gold in the center, or the back of the costume, would greatly be appreciated- doesn't have to be a color picture or anything either.

It doesn't seem like the actual garment construction would be that difficult- I've already got the pattern pretty much mapped out in my head. It's all the detailing that will kill me!

And thanks for the picture, kkoganei! I've seen that one before, but it really does show a lot more of the lower half of her costume than the other one I had posted before. ^-^ I've seen a few cosplays of that particular version of her outfit (with the silver front), and that's why I wanted to try a slightly different one instead (different appliqué and gold armor).

It was so easy to find pictures of Esther for my friend, but the Astaroshe pics are harder to come by!

kkoganei1328
11-02-2005, 12:09 AM
oops ^^;; I didn't notice until now that that costume in your link is different from the one i sent you! I've never really noticed the difference because a lot of pictures i've seen with astaroshe features her in that one and a lot of cosplayers as well. I do have some really huge scans that i've found out of the TB forums of her. I can send it to you if you want (They are way too big as an attachment).

Solaria
11-02-2005, 12:19 AM
That's OK, I really like the ones you sent me, so I'm thinking of switching! The basic shape is the same still; it's just different in the front (the armor (?) part) and has different detailing. And Nozomi sent me a really awesome picture of the back of that costume as well. ^-^

OK, so now I'm probably going to do THIS version of Astaroshe's outfit: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a91/Solaria735/ROMIII-01.jpg. I seem to have a weird track record with colors though, so I'd like other people's opinion on this one: are the plate-like pieces in the front silver or gold? They have a "worn" look, and it almost looks as if the top is silver, and the bottom gold to me, but I'm just not sure. ^-^; I checked a Japanese cosplay site to see what other people had interpreted it as, color-wise, and some had silver, some had gold, and one had a gradient (which I think would be pretty cool myself).

Space Invader
11-02-2005, 12:28 AM
I'm pretty sure her plate is supposed to be gold like the rest of the armor on her costume. Also, the plates on all the other empire outfits are gold as well (I'm currently making my Mirka plate from plastic... molding armor boobies is FUN! ^o^ not).

Solaria
11-02-2005, 12:34 AM
That would make the most sense to me, since her arm cuffs are clearly gold as well... for some reason her chest plate looks duller. But the outfit she wears in the anim has a silver (well, gray) chest plate, so I just wasn't sure. I think I'll have to make sure my chest plate doesn't look super shiny when I make it. Now I just have to figure out which method I want to use for it.

I'm so happy to hear you're making Mirka! Her outfit is GORGEOUS, and I considered it for a while myself. I knew I wanted to cosplay a girl from the series, since the nun habits were so beautiful (then I decided on Astaroshe...), and Mirka's outfit is very beautiful and feminine.

Oh, I so hear you on both counts! XD I don't know if I'm using velvet or what yet, and I don't think I'm going to embroider ALL the details... but yeah, I'm going to die too. I think it just comes with the territory. And my current plan for the wig is to buy a shorter one (shoulder-length) and then add extensions in the back. ^-^

Solaria:

the plate pieces in the front of astaroshe's costume i believe are gold. but i'm sure you can make it silver and it shouldn't affect the overall costume ^_^V Will you be making her staff as well?

and your also making it for AX as well? COOL!!!! i have someone joining the ranks of The Empire with me!!! I can't wait to cut up my pretty green sateen. I'm almost done with seth's petticoat, i just need more layers. And i got a brand new serger for this costume. i'm going to have fun learning how to string that up --;; but..no more fraying!!! i'm so excited.

Yeah, I played around with the saturation levels and stuff in Photoshop, and it seems to have gold tones. I'm just going to try to age it so it's not super-bright-shiny gold. As cool as her staff is, I don't think I'll have either the time or the skill to do it. :-( I'm not very good with props.

Yes, it's for AX! And my friend is doing Esther (the white habit though, not her empire outfit)! I'd love to see your Seth-chan at AX; she's such an awesome character. ^-^

Solaria, a good idea for that breastplate of Astaroshe's would be to give it an antique finish, perhaps antique brass? I think that would be the look that that Thores was aiming for.

You guys are all going to be amazing! Doing all these extremely challenging Trinity Blood costumes, specifically the True Human Empire and the Cain one, will definitely be a task, though. 0_0

By the way, when is AX? ^_^

Solaria
11-02-2005, 01:38 PM
Yes, that's what I was thinking (I've finished armor before). I tend to use gold spray paint, then covered by a thinned-down layer of black paint (or black mixed with gold). After applying the black paint, you wipe off most of it quickly, so it really only remains in crevices, giving it a worn look. ^_^

AX is the first weekend in July (I believe that will be June 30-July 3 this year, as it usually goes from Friday to Monday) in Anaheim, CA.

_Nozomi_
11-02-2005, 02:52 PM
For the worn look, depending on the material you use to make it, you could use instant metal aging stuff, black paint or stain watered down (for gold add some green) and putting random textured paint works well too. For my monica armor I used foam and after painting buffed it with a rough cloth so the black foam would show through.

I need to redo seth's hat. I have the basic shape cut out, but sans the details, however, its kinda flimsy. was hoping to use posterboard to hold it up but that idea is being thrown out the window right now. Anyone have any tips / ideas on how to give the hat shape and keep its stiffness yet be somewhat light? I was thinking of using fosshape and then sewing / heat and bond (I Love the stuff)the material onto it. I've read that fosshape supposedly becomes stiff with heat and retain its shape and can be sewn on even though its hard, but i've never worked with it before. Then use pieces of wonderflex for the gold crown part.

While i'm at it, any input on how to make all those 'lovely' armor pieces on Tres' priest outfit? I'm going to experiment with molding putty for the little arch thingys on the coat (Inspired by the one japanese girls post on how to make them) but i am at a loss on the shoulder pieces and all the other evil pieces he has on him.

I just (finally) started watching Trinity Blood this weekend at Necronomicon. I saw the first three episodes, so far, and am completely addicted now. I want to be Catherine Sforza so badly! But I have so many things I want to do it probably isn't gonna happen. =(

Just have to say, I love all the music and I thought that opening sounded familiar! I can't believe BUCK-TICK's gotten another anime theme to their credit. They're by far my favorite Jrock band of all time. Now I will go back and read the whole thread and probably have a lot more to say, lol.

Hi! Kirschy is going, so is solaria and her friend, as well as my bf and I. If you went to masquerade this year, there was a TB group (They were so awesome). I asked one of the girls (She was seth) if she and her group were comming back next year, and she said yes, and maybe some members of her group (If she could convince them to go again). And, with the anime out, there may be more people who may do TB costumes as the year progresses :) AX is still months away.

I love my new serger!! I'm almost done with the main part of her dress, and her boots hehehee. Now i just need to figure out how to make the puffy sleeves and i'll be almost done (minus the details).

My guess would be that there will also be more people doing the anime-version costumes, since they are MUCH simpler, yet still really pretty.

I made my Abel's empire armor with funnyfoam, and painted it to make it look worn. The painting's actually what makes the armor look good, just get some silver, dark gray, brown, black and gold and paint every piece of armor in a general colour, like gold, and then paint the general shading with gold/brown and then some details with brown/black..good luck! ^^ don't forget to blur the paint with your finger, makes it look more natural :)

Solaria
11-04-2005, 02:44 PM
Yeah, you definitely have to add some shading to make it look realistic. I would recommend coating fun foam with a few layers of Elmers glue before painting, though- it fills in the pores, creating a smoother surface, and makes it so that your foam won't absorb so much paint. My friends and I have used craft foam for a couple cosplays before, so I may use it for my Astaroshe armor as well, although I'm considering other options right now in case one may work better.

_Nozomi_
11-04-2005, 06:21 PM
I used fun foam for my Monica armor. It turned out quite well, but it was very hard to make the shoulders sculpted and rounded. I managed to make it look good, but not as well as I would have liked.

Solaria
11-04-2005, 08:04 PM
Yeah, I've found it difficult to make fun foam stay in curves without a lot of reinforcement. Sometimes a stiff interfacing can help, I've heard, but I haven't had much luck with it. I can imagine how difficult that would be for Monica. I'd love to see pictures of it. This is why I'm glad that, except for the part that goes over her chest, Astaroshe's armor is fairly straight. ^-^;

*whew* My Mirka dress is coming along nicely. The breastplate is almost ready for MELTY PLASTIC ATTACK, and I'm working on restructuring my shoes at the moment. Listen to me when I say that appliquing velvet to velvet is no easy task! It shifts all over the place because of the pile and is a pain in the rear to stitch down. -_-

Back to embroidery.

Can't wait to see it! I can't imagine doing that much embroidery though... I'm glad it'll still be a little while before I start Astaroshe.

Solaria - So you'll be joining us at Anime Expo 2006 then? If so, that is so awesome. Good luck on making Astaroshe's armour!

kkoganei - Thank you so much for that link! That gives me a basic idea how to work on parts of Esther's ROTMIII outfit! *Hugs*

Yes, yes, I shall definitely be there! I have a friend who is doing... some outfit of Esther's as well. Thanks for the wishes of good luck as well! I think I have figured out how I plan to make everything... I just can't start until I finish Rin and Kaoru, and I can't start those until I get some other stuff sorted out. I'm so looking forward to seeing all the TB cosplayers.

no prob :bigtu: Now, i have a slight problem of my own. If you guys have seen seth's costume, she has black border/trim whatever on her white dress. http://thehellsing.org/trinity/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=19

what would be the best way to sew this on? I suck at trims/border and can never figure them out. I have two options, and i would like an opinion.
1. Cut the trim out the shape of her dress and then applique it onto the border. (I.e. place the overall shape of her dress over one piece of fabric, trace around it and cut into a large round shape)
2. Cut out one long strip and then add it on, like sewing on a border for quilting. only problem with this method, is the dress is rounded.

Any other suggestions?

You can use thick black bias tape :3. It takes well to gentle curves like her skirt.

Thanks for the advice, i looked up bias tape, and it seems the thickest they make them so far is 2.5 inches (at least the ones i've found). And thats Not quite thick enough for my needs =(
