I'm working on this costume for AnimeNEXT in Jersey. I have everything but the shirt and push dagger. The push dagger is going to be a woodshop project for me. Time consuming, but I'll get it done.
The problem is the shirt. I don't know where I could get a button-up shirt in that color, and how I'd get the red stripe on it. I know that if I would just wing it with fabric paint I'd scrw it up. Does anyone have any painting methods or techniques to get a straight line across the mid section of it?

Here's a neat reference pic for those interested:

For the shirt, I would suggest you take a look at any department store or men's clothing store if you don't mind spending a little more.

As for the stripe, I would go with some painters' tape to make sure you have a straight line all the way across the paint it. I can't recomend paint types though.

instead of paint, you could just sew or glue a red piece of fabric on the shirt. If you don't want to try a department store, you could try your luck at good will or a thrift shop.

Thrift stores are great for shirts in colors you wouldn't normally find. You could also get a white one and dye it the color you want (most fabric stores have dye). As for the stripe, you could just get some fabric in that color and just sew it on; I have a friend who made this costume and she did that.
