Modchip or Japanese PS2 ;P

The price of the modchip would probably be cheaper than buying another machine...how much would depend on how fancy you wanted it - a cheap one that'd play illegal copies of games would be, like, $20 but I don't know if they play import PS2 games as well. I want a Messiah2 Pro ^____^

Well, given that mod chips are *cough* illegal... you'd have to buy a Japanese PS2. There were things released for the PSX that allowed you to put in a code to play imports, but I don't think anything like that has been released for the PS2.

Companies could learn from the GBA and make systems compatible with their overseas versions... -_-

i have the same problem as you @ the moment, I have a mod chip but i have to go get a diffrent thing because the mod chip seems to only work for bootleg games. i'm gonna try to get a bootloader cd for ps2 and if it works i'll tell ya then you can try that.

There's also a modchip that you can actually plug-in to the USB port of the PS2. You can get that for like 40 bucks. I wouldn't reccomend internal Mod Chips though, they wear out your system. (or at least, that happened to me)

The only catch is, you might have to do the infamous "swap trick" used to boot up imported games as done on the PSX in the old days. Read up on it though. I forget the site but I'm pretty sure it's called "USB Mod".

Viral Harvest do you have one of those? If so could you explain more? do you have to do anything internally?

Well, to tell you the truth I haven't had a mod chip since I owned the old school Playstation. However, that was an internal one, and wore out the system so much over time. During it's final days, the system couldn't recognize memory cards and certain controllers.

I've never tried the USB mod, but with all mod chips and plug-in mods, you're taking a risk with your system. I'd say it wouldn't wear out your system nearly as fast as an internal mod chip considering it's only a plug-in and it's no different from plugging in a controller or using game shark except for the fact that it's messing with the system's normal mode of loading games.

But hey, I guess it's worth it if you can play imports and such, right? It's your call really, but there's always a risk with these things, the Plug-In Mods are much safer for your system though. But if you wanna check it out, here's a link:

Not to be the supposed burden of this area.....but isn't the better of the two games in the US version?

Sure, you've got three new bosses, but i thought [rumor has it] that they replace three US versions....and that there wasn't a JP version until after the US one.... o_o [you know how it is cause 60% of all Japanese titles are ported to the US....or is that 40? -- the point -- : most games start out there, THEN ported. KH was one of the very few that started out HERE, then ported...]

Feel free to prove me wrong.

Kingdom Hearts was released in Japan first, then I was brought to the US with extra stuff like optional bosses (Sephiroth, Phantom, Kurt Zisa...), then It was rereleased in Japan under the name "Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix", with all the things the US version had and more bosses and items, as well as characters and expansions to the storyline. I also had the the English voices with Japanese subtitles. Kinda like the "International Editions" of the Final Fantasy games.

Oh and thank you for the info Viral Harvest, and if it's gonna screw up my system, I'd rather not...even though I'm tempted...
