I know the site went down for a bit but it was supposed to be back up by now. I also remember some people having problems with the con last year? Does anyone know what is going on with Ohayocon? If not anything else does anyone have the dates?

YEah. I want to put in the time for work but I am worried I'll get it wrong or they'll change it. I wonder what the deal is because it is not that hard to throw up a post somewhere saying there is a problem/delay and an explanation.

As far as I know Ohayocon is still going on for 2006. (It'd better!) I think they're just redesigning the site to make it less like a portal thing and more like an actual convention website. The forums are still up tho as far as I know. I post there from time to time.

Yes. The site came back up right after I posted that, but before it wasn't just down, it was totally gone, DNS error, gone.

As far as I know, it's been canceled.

One of the people incorperated it without the others knowing, lost all the money, and now all the con shit is sitting in someones garage cos no one wants to help them out.

>.> Where ever you heard that, you're wrong. I'm on staff and nothing's wrong with the con other than the fact that we're trying to pick up the pieces with new Department heads in a few areas.

That rumor has been going since last year. Everyone thought that the last Ohayocon was gonna be canceled too.

Hooray for scaring the heck out of people for nothing. I too am on staff and there's nothing like that going on...just some dept changes and getting the right people in the right place. ^_^

To anyone spreading crap like this:

Either talk to people on staff, or please shut up.

If you don't know all the details about particular things, please shut up.

The con seems to be having a bit of staff shuffling, so it isn't cancelled, it's just getting different staff in different places.

What do we learn from things like this? If you aren't in a position to know what's going on with things, please shut up ^_^

On the same line of thinking then we (non-staffers) could say please don't dissappear for weeks with out posting somewhere, and expect people to not have rumors about being cancelled.

To Kyon: T_T; Actually, I heard the rumor FROM a staff member, but I asked some from the forum if it was true, so don't go ranting to me. I was only saying the rumor had been around since last year, not spreading crap.

Just to point out in the beginning: I am NOT a designated spokesperson of any kind, just a concerned past-staffer that *might* be coming back this year.

Shippo, I apologize to you then. I wasn't aware that it was going around for that long. Out of curiosity, do you mind me asking whether it was top staff or general room staff that told you that o_O? It's kinda weird to hear because it gets me to thinking 'why would they ask me back on staff if they're not having a con o_O?'

rayechu: I honestly don't know what to say to that. Any definite staffers wanna help out on this one?

As for deeplumlipstic's comment though, that was just entirely uncalled for.

Rumors of a con being cancelled seems to always come about when cons themselves seem to go in the dark or even when they are fine.

Kyo, please calm down. Barely anyone anywhere knows the exact details of what it exactly going on with the site at times and the con. Rooms are being sold now and while they aren't going as fast as we'd like, the people running the site are being painfully slow so people don't know what's going on.

If anything (and I'm being open and honest here as a staff member) Ohayo Con's representatives really are like, *hands over ears* "LA LA LA LA! I'm not listening" whenever someone on staff complains that something is not right. I complained for weeks about the new layout for the site and it went on with that la la la treatment. The site itself is a disaster for people on Dial Up and nothing seems to ever be done until resignations come into play.

Also Kyo, they probably asked you back on staff because they are short handed in experience. A lot of experienced staff members resigned because of ego trips from others and issues so they need people that know how to run things already.

Rayechu, I'm sorry that Ohayo Con is being such a pain right now with the site being so blah and it's honestly unexcusable. New Departments heads with little to no experience have been clashing with their work and a lot of us are basically running around with our heads cut off. Miyabi and I are in the same boat as we only hear things after our department head posts it and our department is one where all of our opinions are needed.
However, Ohayo Con is going nowhere. The people that run the site are taking their dear sweet time and they aren't really giving these rumors much thought because they think that people will be loyal and come like they always did in the past. But people aren't everywhere like we use to be saying that the con is fine. People only really see that the site isn't working (again) and that things still aren't running smoothly.

Mallory, you can ask me anything and I'll tell what you what's going on.

Just keep it in your thoughts though, "Ohayo Con will be fine and it will be on!"

Sorry about negativity and whatnot from my end. I've had to deal with these things before for other situations [con-related and otherwise] and RARELY does it ever end well unless things are nipped in the bud as quickly as possible.

I knew the communication was bad, but I never realised it was THAT bad. All I ask is that next time, people THINK about what they post, including myself.

Loki-sama
07-09-2005, 05:41 AM
Yes, Ohayo Con has its hands full right now with communication problems that we're trying to sort through.

But really, if the con was ever cancelled, it would be up on the main site immediately.

It's okay, Kyon. I was crabby that day I posted. Um.. the staffer was mostly incharge of Dealer Room security.

Sorry I ment no offense to anyone personally, I just went to the website one day so I could put in for my vacation time and it just wasn't there anymore. So I posted here figuring someone on staff could fix/explain what was up.

Actually, it's NOT a lie that Ohayocon almost didn't exist for next year. It's also not a lie that most of the staff quit. Most of Ohayocon's past staff, including many of the department heads and a lot of the brains behind the operation, left because last year's con chair tried to take over the con. OH MY GOD. YES, IT'S TRUE. LET'S ALL PANIC. The aforementioned chair had to pick everything up from the garbage heap after everyone ditched him and his tyrannical overthrow. That's why there are new department heads. That's why the site switched over and started sucking. That's why all the plans are screwed up. No, I didn't hear this secondhand, or as a rumor, and no, I don't think it just MIGHT be the truth. It IS the truth, for anyone smart enough to believe it, and I know because I was there, on staff, when everything fell to shit. I'm not coming back as a result, and I wouldn't be surprised if Ohayocon falls apart after this year. You can think that Ohayocon will be fine if it makes you feel better, but in all honesty, it probably won't be. If it does get cancelled for next year, then hell, maybe the chair will realize that he can't run Ohayocon without the people who made it run to begin with.
(Feel free to flame me by PM. I don't mind. I might like it.)

Hon, I am not going to flame you becuase I was there this past year on masqurade staff and well the confusion factor was well above my head. Hell I had a severe panic attack before the masqurade!
In all honesty, Ohayocon is a nice cozy con but it is not one I would staff. I wish them luck with trying to rebuild themselves.

On a side note:
I think they should take a cue from Kazecon and take a year off to rebuild themselves

Something tells me Aikoe that maybe, just maybe, this information would have been best if it were kept from the normal convention folk.

But of course, I'm just trying to make people like Rayechu feel better and not cause her to worry excessively...

At the risk of sounding like a jerk....:
Bitter much?

Bad things happen I won't deny that but it takes some brave (or perhaps crazy/stupid) people to step up and try to clean up the mess. Where would we be if we all decided to quit?
The shifts in department heads are going to be new so yes, mistakes will be made. NO con ever goes along perfectly smoothly. (and it's stupid to think that one ever will) It would be nice if there was no egotisim. It would be nice if no one got a big head over things. Key wording here is WOULD.
All I'm going to say that as a staff member I'm going to do my job as best I can. That's all I can do. And if people want things run better than please please please put in your imput! Or volunteer! HELP make the con better instead of sitting back and complaining. Whining accomplishes nothing. Action does! ^_^ (plus I'd love to meet you guys in person!)

LOL. I promise I am not running around my room spazzing about the con, I just wanted to know if it was still going on and the dates so I could request off. I don't think anyone expects a con to go perfect just when your website is down for days and there is no word that isn't really a very good sign either. As for suggestions I am always willing to give them, if someone is willing to listen. I think I am registered on the forums in fact, but they disappeared for a bit so I'd have to double check on that.

The forum was done due to redesigning. But if you look now...it is up.

Aikoe- Grow up. Stop spreading rumors and acting childish. I could tell you things about some of those "brains" you so worship that would make your hair curl.

Who am I? I am a staffer that has to pick up after the bratty people who left in a huff. Some people I still have the highest respect for. *cough*Dealers Room head and Video Head *cough* Why? Well because they did their job and did it well. I was really sad to see them leave. But the rest can kiss my ass.

To my loverlies that are here....please know I am trying to get things together. I have recently moved, I am trying to find a new job and have limited internet. But know Dizzy is in charge and will be working his booty off for us all.

OHAYOCON WILL GO ON NO MATTER WHAT. THE EVENT IS PAID FOR AND WE WILL BE HAVING A CONVENTION. THIS IS FROM A HIGH LEVEL STAFFER WHO KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON.

Marsie: Thank you for the information, as I found it really helpful.

As for everything else, I'm in no hurry to plan for Ohayocon '06. Therefore, the website being down doesn't effect me, and especially at this time of the year where it is high debate whether it should even really matter much or not. Yes, it a bummer that sometimes things can be slow. But if you really need ask questions and find specific information, the forums are really the way to go. Go ahead. It's non-toxic, even.

Anyway, what really gets my goat is these rumors, which (real or not) just plain suck in the eyes of a con-goer like me. It reeks of revenge (?), or just a bad attitude... So the thread really is better off without it. So, let's all just take a breather and halt this mild flame war, hmm?

On a tangent...
Shippo87: I saw you last year in your Laharl cosplay! (I was so good that I didn't even figure you to be a girl until I found your photos here. Heh!) I was a random passerby wearing a Domo-kun shirt and yelled "Hail Laharl!" while you were sitting on the spiffy chair near the video rooms. :p

I'm going to close this thread since like stated, if any con were to be cancelled, it would be announced on the website's main-page. I'm not worrying about Ohayocon until December, when the con season is over save for 1-2 small cons. I still have 5 major cons to be concerned with before 2005 ends, and then I'll concentrate on cons in 2006, starting off with Ohayocon 2006. ;)

Please post your replies in this thread:
