My friend and I were getting excited about the HP IV opening, when we realized that it's the weekend of this con!

I've got the hotel and all set up, but I am not from the immediate area and want to know if there's any theaters around the hotel area.

Also, is anyone else is planning to dress up and go? We usually dress up for big opening nights like this, but with a con and all this ought to be different 0_o'

SO yeah, anyone going? And if so where's the best place to catch the movie (midnight premier??) We've checked the hotel info and google-ed it, etc but can't get anything solid.

Thanks in advance!

((Also, I understand that this isn't "anime-related", but I figure there'll be plenty of others interested in the HP fandom attending the con! ^_^))

There's a theater near the hotel, don't know too much about it just seen it while driving in the area. I'll try to post an address or other info after work tomorrow. I'm planning to see an early showing of Goblet on friday, will be wearing my Angelina Johnson costume.

I'll keep my eye open for movie times and other fun and post if I find out anything.

Awesome! Thank you! ^_^ I guess as the movie gets closer I'll know if there's a midnight showing or not. Can't decide if we wanna go early Friday, or pretty late on Friday.

I appreciate it though!

My friend Mikey was raving about that and we also just realized this a week ago. I suppose I will try the same. Do update that address! <3 See you there.
( I'll probably be going in my Myrtlu Manga Costume or a common Gryffindor. )

The theater closest to the Sheraton is Cineplex Odeon Tyson's Fairfax Square, address is 8065 Leesburg pike. you can buy tickets through fandango (#802). It's pretty close, so walking to the theater shouldn't be a problem and parking is always a pain in Tyson's anyway.

Pretty much leaning toward seeing Goblet in the morning since not much happens at a con on Friday until early afternoon, but we should wait until they start selling tickets before deciding.

Awesome, thank you!! Yeah, I agree. Wait till ticket sales and times come up, then we can decide what to do! ^_^

I know at least myself and 2-3 other people will be going, so we have a decent little group going here :) I don't have any particular character in mind. Probably just Ravenclaw # 11 or something like that. Either way it ought to be fun.

I'd love to go see it sometime that weekend, especially with other people. Of course, I probably won't dress up just because I don't have the time to make another cosplay. :)

:D Oh boy! Sounds like a plan! >:P I used to go to that theatre a lot when I was younger. It's HUGE. Be careful not to get lost in the parking lot! O_O I dunno what i'll be wearing. But I vote we all carry the con-badges! Ya know... to... identify eachother...

My family saw the first two Star Wars prequils on the midnight showings. It's tough to stay awake! ^_^;;

Yeah, there's a theater near the hotel - a friend and I are absolutely, totally costuming and going to the premiere Friday night! We were so psyched when we found out it was the weekend of AUSA. ^____^ I just need to decide which house to go as... >D

Yup, Aine-chan and I were just discussing this... We were thinking that if things got boring Friday night [I know I got bored at Otakon around 8-9PM, since I don't rave or anything] we'd stroll over to the theatres and catch a later showing. If I feel like bringing a costume, I'll grab my Tonks stuff, but it's still too early for me to plan those things. It all changes at last minute, anyway, LOL.

Awesome! i'm glad there's gonna be a bunch of people that are going and are at least interested in the movie! In a month or so we can start figuring out if we want to meet up or anything, and if so when/where.

Was in Tyson's a few days ago, and I don't recommend that anyone walk to the theater. It's walking distance (a couple of miles), but there's no sidewalks for part of the trip. Might be a bit dangerous especially at night.

Carpool then? If a couple of us volunteer to drive to the theatre, it would be awesome. I'd offer to everyone but I think my car is already full from driving Star_Angel and WintersKnight & Company as I'm going to force them to come with me.

Just wondering if anyone was still thinking of this? While the concert will be in Friday, there are still bound to be late showings.

I'm up for a carpool if anyone else is.

Woah cool! I was just about to start a thread about this very idea only to realize there was already one! Yes, it's definitely my plan to go see the movie on Friday with as many costumed people as possible! In theory I agree with the practicality of seeing it in the afternoon, but I just can't bring myself to do it. A movie like this, for me, has to be seen in the evening.

I'll be going with my Moody costume. I agree with the carpooling. I wouldn't say no to a ride, because walking some distance on no sidewalk with a wooden leg doesn't sound fun.

Ok guys, I'm REALLY upset to report that I won't be attending AUSA. It's mainly due to lack of funds. V_V I hope you guys can get together and enjoy the premier though. My friends and I are still going to try to throw a HP party type-thing before the movie, but up where we live in MD.

So anyway, I'm sorry :( I hope you guys have fun!!!

ooooooo going to the midnight showing is a great idea!!! I will have already seen in *has tickets to the D.C. premeire*, but it would be fun to go at midnight, and act like a huge dork :bigtu: walking from the sheraton, the new movie theater that opened at tysons corner is about 1.8 miles away, and the old tysons theater is about 2.4 miles away...i'd choose tysons...less walking XD...so it'd take a while to get there, and hopefully noone will get hit by a car, crossing major roads, but sounds like a fun idea =D

Wait, isn't the midnight premiere technically on Thursday night? You know, after midnight so it's technically Friday, but still it's really on Thursday night? I could see there would be confusion and people will end up going on different nights.

Yeah, I can see the confusion too. I think I'm going to a 10 or 11 pm showing on Friday night.

Forgot about the new theater at the mall, at least parking will be easier late at night. Still don't suggest walking to the mall especially at night, but if you can turn cars into ferrets go for it.

Probably going to the last showing on friday, guessing that'll be after 10pm. Sure people who are interested can meet up and carpool to the theater.

Yeah, I was about to say that the closest theatre is actually the AMC at Tyson's Corner mall. You take a right out of the hotel area onto Rt.7 East and it's probably only like 2 miles down the road. I go to that theatre for pretty much all movies now since it opened. They also have a brand new food court along with the theatre and they have "Five Guys" (best burgers around, according to my fiance) and they have a pretty good Japanese food place (they make decent sushi), and a Cold Stone Creamery for dessert. ^_^ I think about food too much.

this was the first thing i thought of when i found out what day AUSA was. it made me sad but im excited to know there are other ppl wanting to go.
i was curious if you guys where thinking of meeting as a group and then going or are you guys just going in your own lil groups?

As much as I would love to go en masse with everyone, I promised my mum [who is graciously driving me to the con] that I'd see HP with her. So we're planning on a 10-11PM showing on Friday. I'm sure I'll see a bunch of you guys there, though. Look for the atrociously out-of-place Corpse Bride cosplayer, hah. [Although I suppose I could always tell people I was the Grey Lady. ^__^;]

So today I came across a thread on AnimeUSA.org's forums. Apparently they've had the same idea, so I'm going to link them back to over here so they can read up. Luckily, I now know for sure I will be going, even if I have to leave the concert early.

AMC sounds like a fine idea, they have a 11:15 showing on Friday night for Goblet of Fire. You can also buy the tickets online.

Since you certainly would NOT want to walk from the hotel to the mall, car pooling is seeming like a more and more of a nice idea. I could probably fit three people in mine, depending on costumes.

Wait, the foodcourt has a Five Guys now? Oh I'm in heaven, that place is wonderful. Best burgers and fries around.

Can you post a link please? I'm stupid when it comes to buying movie tickets online and this would be awesome to do.

No problem! Here's the link (https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id=96458633) for the 11:15 pm showing for November 18th. They do charge you a dollar extra to buy online, but at least you know you have a ticket.

I live in the area. Yes, the closest one to the Sheraton is the one in Tysons (actually, there's two. One IN Tyson's mall and ONE across the street from it)

However, I know the people around here too, and it'll be forever to find parking. Also, it'll be crammed and impossible to find your way. I would suggest either being the very first ones there, or waiting until Sunday morning, since most people will be at church (very religious area, this is).

I hope I helped! See you all at AUSA!

You know, I BELIEVE (but am not 100 percent sure) that the hotel has a shuttle that goes to the Tysons mall. I'll have to call them.
We should all plan a time and go together XD

So, are we going as a group? Did we decide on AMC as 11:15? Details kinda need to be hammered out.

If people are carpooling, what time should we leave? My car can hold three people fairly comfortably and if it were up to me, I would try to leave between 10:30pm and 10:45 pm to ensure parking spaces and time to buy/pickup tickets.

What do y'all think?

I bought two tickets for the 11:15 showing, for Star_Angel and myself. She's going to the Move concert though so whenever that gets out is when we'll leave.

I have purchased an 11:15 ticket as well, though I'm a little out of the loop on the HP movies since I have not seen the 2nd or 3rd one.

Just look for the tall Ido ^^
