Figures...I finally get the games I wanted....plenty of decent xbox games for me to play...and my xbox begins to develop "issues."

By issues, I mean it seems that my xbox is following the rest of its doomed manufacturing line and finally dying. (I have a first gen xbox. Some of the first gen manufacturing lines had issues with the dvd-rom's and harddrives.)

When I play songs of the harddrive, and then games go to load, the dvd rom drive will sometimes just keep "looping" its seek function. The best example is DOA:X. I played it all w/e no problem. Last night, I go to play, get through 2 days, and then get in a VERY long game of volleyball. We couldn't score on each other...and I'm guessing the dvd spun down into idle mode since it wasnt playing DVD music from the game.

When the game was over, it goes to load the next section, the dvd drive spins up...and LOADING just sat on the screen....the music on the HD kept playing for about 10-15 secs and then began to loop on the last segment cached.

This originally started to happen in the game AMPED...but I ignored it...now I gotta send my xbox for service for ~2 weeks. (Thankfully since I took the extended warranty with MS I pay 0 dollars, they even pay for shipping.) I only run the risk of my HD being wiped....which means I just have to redo the games I can't save...and my music. (Namely DOA games since you can't copy the memory files due to DOA2's hack of kasumi.)

Oh well, I can't really blame MS...since I've always seen a high failure rate on DVD-roms. (And originally cd-roms when they were brand new.) At least I'll get to try out Orta tonight ;) And I'm pretty sure its the DVD-rom since even dvd movies have been having some issues. (After the dvd rom spins down they don't like to resume from pause.)

(For those who don't know...MS ships you a box within 3 days of calling for warranty support. You in turn ship the unit back with nothing else. They then repair the unit within 7-10 days and ship it back airborne express. The 27 dollars I paid for a year warranty was very much worth it then.)

Aww. I'm sorry that happened...but there's a lot of weird things happening to my PS2. @_@ I could swear that it's not First Gen...but I dunno, it's all funky...I mean, sometimes, it would just freeze up for no reason (only in Vice City..and rerely in Kingdom Hearts) but yeah...Hopefully, you can get it back A-OKAY! :D And don't forget, I'm comin' over next time to make sure I get to play DoA: X. I need some bouncing action!!! ^_^;;

I've heard both games can have issues like that. (KH and GTA:VC)

I think Booty mentioned VC locked his PS2 as well. :( Our friend Alex had to get her PS2 serviced due to issues though.

The problem with the xbox though is leading me to think I should buy another.

Why? Cuz its the MOST used piece of hardware in our house next to our PCs. If we aren't playing Xbox, we watch DVDs on it. (We got rid of our stand alone dvd player because of the quality of the Xbox video.)

My roommate has been using my PS2 as a DVD player. I should really tell her to stop...e.e; ... LIKE NOW...that means, I tell to stop tonight. I'll have to start working that playstation up again. GAH!!!! ._.

All sorts of systems have issues like that. My roommate, as well as others I know, had lots of problems with Metroid Prime on the GC. PS2s are finicky, especially older ones, and can do all sorts of silly things. Mine works great- except if you want to turn on the controller vibration, it will randomly tell you the controller is unplugged, and then freeze your game eventually. I use my PS2 as the DVD player because I am cheap and don't want to buy the stuff to use the Xbox.

Back in the day, my Sega CD would randomly freeze up. A good smack usually got it back on track (I've tried this method on the Saturn, DC, PSX, and GC and it doesn't work). Actually, come to think of it, my Sega CD still has those problems, at least with my copy of Lunar: SS.

I have to find cabling for my genesis/sega cd and I'll have mine up and running again :)

My PS2 has had one problem that was a known issue. (My original GT3 logitech wheel (the first one made) would suddenly "die" in mid game at times. It was a USB issue. heh

I've had some games crash on PS2...and only one on GC. (Same as you experienced...Metroid Prime...it crashed 2x from start to end.)

Most of the time I have no real issues with most "modern" hardware...just makes me sad that I have to give up my xbox for ~ 2 weeks when I was REALLY beginning to enjoy it again.

I'm also gonna make sure to renew that warranty again too ;) (heheh I know what you mean about the dvd piece for the xbox, but it's well worth it for the quality.)
