View Full Version : CNAnime 2005 Photo Links/Con Reports

Oops, sorry folks that I was late in doing this. Thank you for those who started photo threads, but these need to be started by a moderator.

I'm going to go ahead and close the other picture threads, but add all the links to the list.

Thanks for your patience. Here's the rules. :)

1. Your link should point to the exact gallery, not the front of your website. Links sending members to your website expecting everyone to "find the pics" will be removed.
2. Only post one link. If you would like to let everyone know that you have updated your gallery you have already linked to, please edit your original post.
3. We will add all links to a list at the top of the site. Staff galleries are listed first, followed by member galleries on the Cosplay.com website will be posted next, and finally links to other websites.
4. If you are putting your photos in your cosplay.com gallery, please create a sub-folder for your photos and we link to that.
5. Please limit the commentary in this thread.

Con-Reports are fine to post in here too. We will update this list each evening with the newest links that have been posted. All other photo link threads will be deleted, with the exception of threads posted by the Cosplay.com staff.

Here's my cosplays photos (which turned out). They do not include any pictures from the masquerade itself (which I'll put up in a separate gallery if the quality of my photography held up).

Here's mine.

Sorry I have more than one link, but these files are downloaded in .rar files(You'll need an unzipping program to see them, like winrar)... I have a LOT of pics and vids, so it'd be kinda hard to put them on photobucket and all... But don't worry, I think I labelled them well enough, so choose what you want.

Friday Pictures (http://s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=253FFMNB6X1S91LRIO1YRV7YXG)

Scott McNeil voicing for us Friday Night at 11pm! (http://s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3QAEGUP1CXEHY3OO6M16INW6V8)

More coming as soon as I can upload them(especially the masq vids 'cause they're HUGE[510mb... sorry, they're high quality, and sorry that we couldn't get all of the masq, but I wasn't taping it, my friend had my cam, and even though my cam was 1gb memory it wasn't enough for many of the skits on high quality video]!)

08-29-2005, 08:23 PM

79 photos from Friday and Sunday of CN. Note: There are NO pictures in my gallery from Saturday seeing as I didn't go to the con that day due to prior engagements.

Any are fair game if you want to use them for your personal galleries, just give credit. I'm not too happy with these photos for some reason. They don't look as good as my other convention photos have turned out *shrug*

Here are mine!

08-29-2005, 09:50 PM
Here are some of the pictures I have of myself and my group.

I couldn't upload the others cuz they're apparently too big...so I might change this link for another one where they're all there later...

I would have loved postprocessing some pictures or all of them. Doing it for all the 240 pictures I picked doesn't seem like much fun.

Hello there....

I would like to post my convention experience here if that's alright, still working on all this linking and stuff, while I took photos it may be a while before they see the light of day here.... or anywhere else for that matter.

Sorry I haven't come by sooner, long story, it got so bad I even made a joke about it....

"By the time I eventually post 2005 it'll be time for 2006!"

Well I thought it was funny.... anyway....

Because I wish to document as much as possible, and hopefully "Tribal Butterfly" can confirm this as I gave her "the short version," I'm going to put this into three parts,"Part One" I'll post right now.

So here goes....

"Captain Wolf's Canadian National Expo Adventure, Part One: Thrusday and Friday."

"Prologue: Thursday night...."
To be honest my trip began rather abruptly, e-mailing a friend telling them I was coming up to Toronto we try to set up a meeting. I found out we could meet Thursday night but I would have to get up there as fast as possible.
Long story short, I find myself scrambling up to Toronto and getting there in like three and a half hours. (would've been sooner if not for the afternoon rush)
Sadly.... I never did find this person and we would never actually meet, but it provided a really sweet opportunity, bringing enough money for one night's hotel, I decide to use it for the night. I get to no less than The Strathcona Hotel itself and get a good night's rest.
(For that I say,"Thank you Jill Clark.... where ever you are....")

"Friday: The Wooden Weapon That Finds Me! The Adventure Truly Begins!"
After waking up, showering, and checking out, I head out to Yonge Street for lunch and then up said street for a little sightseeing and maybe some shopping as I spotted a store the night before that caught my interest.
I found the store and made what was probably my favorite purchase of the entire weekend, after years of waiting (don't ask) I finally get to buy a bokken, one of those wooden katana swords that seems to be a popular anime weapon. Probably got ripped off at $30 but what the hell, I find myself saying that it "found me." (dumb huh)
So about 3pm I say the time has arrived and began my walk to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. You should've seen me! (some of you might have) With that wooden blade secured to my black duffel, I looked like some kinda wandering samurai for hire! (<lol!>) Too bad the walk was mostly uneventful, other than the usual big city crowding, would've been nice to have fought some evil supervillain but sadly....
About 3:45pm, give or take, I finally arrive at the convention. Was a little surprised at how many cosplayers they're were considering it was only the first day, and a short one at that. My first photo was some background and my first cosplayer photo was of three girls, dressed as Chi Chi, Videl, and if I'm not mistaken Sailor Venus.
After nearly 30 minutes or so getting my deluxe weekend pass, I enter the convention itself, feeling really good as it was my first convention in five years.... good to know not a whole lot has changed in that time.
Much walking occured, not too many photos, just getting a feel of the terrain really, until I decide to hit "Celebrity Row." (what I called it anyway)
My very first celeb was no less than Kevin Sorbo himself, this guy is tall! (and I'm 6 foot even!) Snared a photo (which sadly didn't come out) and a signed 8/10.
Next up was Mirina Sirtis, looking as beautiful as always, she was signing her name when I noticed one of her hands was all mangled and sliced up. All she told me was that it involved,"manual labor, and a cat." You do the math.... mine sucks! (<lol!>)
Anyway, as my travels continued I found myself standing by this table with music in the background and these two Asian kids, a guy and a girl, signing stuff. After looking for a second I walk off, not realizing that less than 24 hours later I would become a huge fan of these two people, known collectively as........ "Angela."
Not a lot in the buying department besides photos, my ticket for the Erica Durance autograph session the next day, and a G2 Black Ninja Stikfa.
I did have fun following "The Box" around for about ten minutes or so, even tapped it a few times, causing it to promptly drop to the ground.
Oh, I was at Artist's Alley as well, torturing the poor girls at the table with the little bell. Really got a charge outta seeing how much they could endure as I kept them guessing whether or not I'd tap it so they could applaude me, I ended their suffering by finally tapping it.
Let's see, about 9:30pm I get some roadside food, and make my way for The Strathcona for "Night One" of Anime All Night. To my surprise it was sort of sedate, only about half full, and by 2am half of them left, but they pressed on anyway. Not a lot of anime really, just Tsubasa Chronicle, which I nodded off through most of. (waking up just long enough to hear the theme song, which I liked)
It was mostly a lot of karaoke, anime music videos, and the "Most Disturbing Video Ever Made," which I thankfully forgot most of.
(Personal Observation: The Excel Saga video was just plain hilarious!)
I did have to move my duffel from where I put it at the beginning, couple of kids wanted to lie down so I was only too happy to oblige. To be honest it felt cool sitting next them sleeping and all, I felt like I watching over them, protecting them as it were. (must've been the bokken)
So about 6am they wrap up and I head out onto the streets of Toronto, I had feeling it would be a big day, just didn't realize how big it would actually get....

To be continued....

".... big city.... a massive line.... finding Laura Bailey.... meeting Lois Lane.... and a band called Angela.... "Captain Wolf's Canadian National Expo Adventure, Part Two...."

"Are you there?"

Well, that's day one, if all goes well I should be able to get to day two on the morrow. I'll do my best to make it, until then I will say good day to you all, later.

Keep the memory alive,
Captain Wolf.

Hello again.... sorry for the delay.... tougher than I thought....

Hopefully I can do this, but before I do, I felt it neccessary to clairfy a few things. As I figured, I left out some stuff from Friday, two things really.
The first happened early on, I'll play it up for fun as I thought it was really funny. Turned out I remember getting whacked in the mush by Sango's boomerang, yeah it was some lightweight flimsy cardboard whatever and I felt nothing, but still....
Smashed in the mush by Hiraikotsu.... hope I spelled that right.
The second thing happened at Anime All Night, namely the guy who belted out the Pokemon theme song with all his might, to this day I question his judgement but he got a huge ovation for his trouble. Oh well, probably just me....

Anyway, here's "Day Two."

"Captain Wolf's Canadian National Expo Adventure, Day Two: Saturday."

"Saturday: Voice Of The Sky! Defend The Mega City Captain Wolf! Part One."

The second full day in Toronto turned out to be the biggest day of the entire weekend, I think more happened in the next 24 hours than the whole weekend put together.
Started off simple enough, the hotcakes at MacDonald's have yet to let me down as they we're really yummy. Despite the filling of much breakfast food I still stopped off at that tiny store by the Convention Centre, probably good that I did get snack as I needed the provisions for what was in store for me, namely........

"The Line From Hell!"

Astonishment is all I can say as I saw this massive line snake it's way nearly a block down the street! Took almost 30 minutes or so to get in, and this was for the pre-paying folk! (thankfully I'm a patient man)
Anyway, I finally get in and more wandering began, lots of looking around and such. Sometime around noon I spot a girl wearing a really cool Sango costume, and carrying a really elaborate boomerang to boot, and the chase was on! Finally caught up to her and get a photo, before realizing I was in one of those set-ups for long lines, kinda looked like a maze. So just for fun, I go on to see what's at the end of the maze. I nearly get to the end when a kid in a pink costume asks me,"You gonna have her sign that?" referring to my wooden sword. ("Her?")
Not sure how to respond, I just ignored the poor thing and pressed on to the end of the maze only to find.... Voice Actress Laura Bailey!
While I had an idea who she was, having read the back of Volume One of the Fruits Basket manga and watching Blue Gender, I decide to play dumb and ask her who she is and what she does and stuff. She was all too kind to give me such info and was even willing to give me a free autograph, and let me get a cute pic of her. By the way, Laura Bailey had the honor of being the first to sign this little black sketchbook I had brought with me for just such an occasion, it would see a bit more action.... but more on that later.

Just past 12:30pm I go off to find the screening room for a movie I wanted to watch, mainly just to get off my feet for a while. My search went on in vain and then I find this panel room with music coming from it, I peek in to see the video for "Invoke" by T.M. Revolution playing on the big screen, seems I found the Tofu Records panel. Curiousity sets in but not enough to walk in. It was then that the next video comes on,
"Believe," from Nami Tamaki. This was what roped me in, blowing off my search for the movie in the process. What should've been something really boring turned out to be really entertaining as I got to see some really cool videos and such, though I never did see Nami Tamaki again.... oh well.... that's another story.

So the panel ends just past 2:30pm and I'm off wandering again, this time getting some sweet cosplay action, some highlights include....

Lots of Star Wars folk running around.

A really beautiful Lacus Clyne, with an apparent boyfriend in tow dressed as some military type.

An awesome girl dressed as Jinx from Teen Titans.

And these two asian guys dressed as knights, I would've been happy getting a photo of them sitting down on the floor but they we're kind enough to get up and go into a pose.
(for that I say,"Thank you guys, you really didn't have to.")

So about 3:30pm I decide to make my way down to the theater in the basement for this Angela concert I heard so much about, completely forgetting my brief encounter the night before.
To be honest, I almost didn't go, apparently while anyone could get in it turned out people with an "anime pass"(whatever that meant) had priority and I was ushered to one side while the torrents of fanfolk passed by. I was eventually allowed to go in to see a nearly packed house, and some people passing out toy whistles for some reason, never did get one. After finally finding a decent seat, the show begins.
As the opening number begins, I just sat there taking it all in, not really sure what to make of this Japanese pop duo known as Angela. Thankfully the song was to my liking and I found myself enjoying it rather quickly, by show's end I was having the time of my life! Some of the concert's high points....

Singer "atsuko" letting everyone know that their english wasn't that great, which resulted in this joke from musician "KATSU"....
His response to atsuko's question of how much english he knew:"Hey baby!"
atsuko:"So, who's a babe?"

Their little painting session involving writing in their native Japanese, forgot what they wrote exactly, but I do remember atsuko's offering regarding,".... things that are really cute." (figures <lol!>)

A rousing cover of "Cruel Angel Thesis," the theme to Evangelion.

And "Beautiful Night Sky," a song that got the audience involved. It seemed we needed to swing around an item of clothing at the appropriate time.
(cannot forget KATSU's suggestion: "shoe!")
A few towels we're thrown into the crowd, courtesy of atsuko, but being too far from the stage I just sat there and joked,"You aren't that good!"

As I said, I had fun! By the time the encore went down, I was a full blown fan. I even did something I hadn't done in years.... I danced!
Danced! I don't dance! I can't dance! I suck at it!
The fact that Angela created that kind of response from little old me was quite the achievement indeed! And if that wasn't enough....
After the show, they held another autograph session, which included their albums for sale! So, not being a fool, I brave the line to meet these cool kids and get a copy of their album, Voice Of The Sky. I just couldn't say enough nice things about them as they signed said album, and them probably only knowing about half of what I was talking about. (<lol!> sorry 'bout that.... couldn't resist)

"To be continued...."

".... the daylight fades.... events take a more hectic turn as the all night anime rave in the Mega City begins.... please protect him, wooden sword of justice.... Captain Wolf's Canadian National Expo Adventure.... next episode...."

"Soar on the wings of eternity!"

I'm stopping here as my time is running really short, if all goes well, I should be able to finish this tomorrow with luck. Hopefully I'll be here, until then, be cool and laters.

Keep the memory alive,
Captain Wolf.

Hello again.... again!

Okay, let's not waste any time, here's the conclusion of my con report.... I hope!

"Captain Wolf's Canadian National Expo Adventure, Day Two Continued."

"Saturday: Voice Of The Sky! Defend The Mega City Captain Wolf! Part Two."

After the Angela show I raced back upstairs to the Erica Durance autograph session, fearing I may have missed it considering I bought a ticket the night before, thankfully I was in time. Another line (See a trend developing?) and more waiting later, I finally get to meet the Smallville star.
To my surprise, considering I got a photo of her before I went into the line, I was so overwhelmed at meeting her all I could do at first was slowly reach out and lightly touch her left arm, to which she reassured me,"Yeah, I'm real."
I then make it point of saying how amazing things work out, meaning I'm sitting at home on Wednesday night seeing Erica get shoved into a closet on the tv and now, three days later, I'm meeting her in person. So then she signs the photo of her I bought and I pull out the Polaroid for a quick shot. (I couldn't wait to see how it turned out! <lol!>)

I then make the first of several failed attempts to meet Scott McNeil.
(sadly I never got to meet him, very popular guy apparently)
Much more buying stuff though, acquiring two more Stikfas, the re-issues of the Beta Female with the Dragon, and the G2 Chinese Monk, in addition to the Angela album.

So at 7pm I head out for dinner, my body worn out after two days of "conning," as I call it, I stagger over to Yonge Street in the pouring rain back to MacDonald's. After eating, I drag myself over to The Strathcona about 9pm and learn that Anime All Night wasn't scheduled until midnight. (ouch!)
On that note, I parked myself in the hotel lobby and just hang out, surprisingly I wasn't hassled by anyone, must've expected people to show up I guess. Sitting in a comfy chair, I eye the store across the street and decide to get some snack, but my battered body wanted to sit still so I just sat there and napped a bit. I then get my strength back and wake up and go out only to find out the store was closed! (rats!) Fortunately there was a doughnut shop around the corner and my needs were met, I come back to find the fanfolk filing in.... and my seat taken by some kid! (<ugh!>)
By chance or design, I managed to get my seat back and find myself surrounded by a bunch of kids, so we all just hanged out for a bit.
It was at this point that this young lady in a cute costume walks up to me, gonna try and describe her....
"She had really curly blonde hair, possibly a wig. Her outfit was really light blue with brown trim, and a brown berret. She does have photos of her here at the site, under the possible name,"Momji." Will have to check though after I finish here."
Anyway, this girl walks up to me and says in the nicest way possible....
"Oh I really like your sword, it looks really cool, can I play with it for a minute?!"
Seriously.... how could I say no! So I pull my bokken from my big black duffel and hand it to her, and she begins swinging it around lightly. So amused by what I saw, I asked if she could pose for a photo and she replied in kind. (I so have to get this pic online)
Also during this time I get chatting with the other kids about games and stuff, one of them hands me a cd player to listen to some stuff, I then hijack the player and put in my Angela cd and listen to Track One of Voice Of The Sky.
Personal Observation: The song rocked!
I then hand the player back to the kid, fearing the battery may die if I listen to the whole album. Then we notice the crowds heading for the lift to the cellar pub and off we go to Night Two of Anime All Night.
A dramatic difference from the night before, the place was nearly full and I have to settle for another spot as mine was taken.
This night had drunken karaoke as well as the regular kind, with one of the highlights being this really cute lady with orange hair, I remembered her from the Angela concert when she had on this wild looking costume with a type of staff. (cool looking)
About half the night was spent talking anime with "Audrey," who was clearly a One Piece fan if her t-shirt was any indication. More anime video this time around, including an encore of the Excel Saga video which got huge laughs from everyone.
(Highlights: That fact that it's played to a Jewel song, and "Accident #2" was really funny, anyone who saw it will know what I'm talking about! <lol!>)
I did notice this one girl in a cat costume dancing around really quickly, I mention this for no real reason other than the fact that I spot her.... well.... "getting friendly" with another girl nearby.... read into that what you will....
As the crowds thinned a little, Audrey left to a better view while I stayed at my spot, seems the folks around me dug themselves in really nicely and I was trapped for a while. I eventually managed to get out of my spot for another one as the people began falling asleep left and right.
Again, not much anime to speak of, real shame. Just something called Futakoi Alternative, the only way I can describe this show is FLCL meets Verionca Mars. (weird huh) Thankfully the night went to just past 6am and we were then cleared out.... leaving behind the grand daddy of all messes! (<lol!>)
But not before I get a photo of Audrey and this really cute asian girl with a Naruto headband on, she tried for a funny face but failed and had settle for just a smile.
I overhear some of the people calling Anime All Night "a failure" but I don't know about that, as "a party" I had fun, despite the fact that they had no ice to speak of for drinks. (one fo the reasons I went out earlier)
Overall, I look forward to next year's Anime All Night.
"Too all who read this, I really hope you find the time to attend this little party, you can have fun if you allow yourself the chance.... hope to see you there!"

"Sunday: CNAnime Forever! The Wind, The Clouds, The Adventure!"

The final day of my weekend in Toronto was more or less a carbon copy of Saturday, with the breakfast and the eventual return to the Convention Centre and the line and stuff, though the line wasn't nearly as bad.
More wandering ensues, eventually leading me to the latest Angela autograph session, this time I get in line! (ha ha) With little black book in hand, I get to meet my new favorite band in person again, with atsuko and KATSU signing said book after I ramble nice things at such high speeds that they probably didn't know what I was talking about. They just sat there and smiled politely, probably their best move really.

The other addition to my book was the signature of one Erica Durance, who I plopped down yet another $20 to meet.
Personal Observation: Meeting celebrities is expensive! (<lol!>) Erica Durance alone came to over 50 bucks! (yikes!)
Anyway, after remembering me Erica tells me of her own overwheming moment when some guy named Elijah Wood showed up and sat next to her.
("The kid from Deep Impact?")
I then inform her that I have yet to see any of his, "....recent work," to which she replies,"Well that's a travesty!" (I can't help it! I'm an anime fan!)
Personal Observation: To her credit, Erica Durance was a really sweet person and fun to talk to, even though it cost an arm and a leg.... oh well.... there's always automail!
(<LOL!!!!> so very sorry 'bout that, I just couldn't resist)

Beyond Angela and Erica, not much to speak of, other than the buying and the cosplay that dominated the afternoon.

More Star Wars folks, including a sweet Boba Fett.

Saw this cute asian girl in a skimpy red with white trim number working behind a counter, she was even nice enough to stand on a nearby chair, the sweetie.

Another cute girl, this time with a tail, which almost didn't get seen. A few minutes later someone spots her asks if she could wag it for a second, really funny and cute.

And a cool guy who spent the weekend dressed as Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7.

A Front Mission 3 action figure. (which I liked)

An Armored Core action figure. (which I liked.... until it broke about 5 minutes after I opened it! <ugh!> Seems the right leg got snooty with me for some reason.

And a Gundam model kit, 1/144 Force Impulse Gundam from Gundam Seed Destiny to be exact. (liked putting this together as it was a while since I worked on one)

Running out of money, and picture film, at about 5:30pm I ponder everything that had happened this past weekend and then hear the announcement that the dealer's floor was closing and that the next convention will be September 1-3 in 2006.
6pm comes around and I head out, looking around at everything and taking it in as I left, I'm amazed I didn't start crying right there as I left the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to the streets. It occured to me at that moment that I would make it my mission to return here next year, no matter what it takes.
It shouldn't have been a time to be sad, it was a time to be happy, to realize that I had an absolutely great time in Toronto! The people were nice, the city was big and busy, and of course.... The Canadian National Expo was the best time I ever had in a very long time! As of this posting, I have remained true to my word and have begun planning next year with hope that it will be every bit as enjoyable.... if not better! And as I end this report I have just one final thing to say....

"To everyone in Toronto and everyone who went to The Canadian National Expo.... I had the best time and I thank you one and all! Hope to see you all again in 2006!"

<whew!> That was exhausting! It took everything I had.... but it was worth it! I know this particular thread hasn't seen much life recently, but at least my experience is available for public consumption. Hope you enjoyed reading it....

And thank you for your time....

Keep the memory alive,
Captain Wolf.
